The Tapas Bar

The Ferry, Dundee City, <20£
06/08/2021: We were only in Dundee for a few days but decided to come here for dinner after researching places to eat.The service was great, we received a friendly welcome and although the staff were attentive, they did not hover around. Despite our food requirements (one vegetarian and the other not eating fish) the range of tapas brought out to us was very good. We were offered a selection of both hot and cold dishes and the portions were generous. Unfortunately we were too full to sample desserts but they all sounded delicious. It wasn’t the cheapest meal we could have had, but it was worth the price.
04/08/2021: Let me start by saying the food is amazingly delicious and authentic and artistically presented. The staff are friendly and helpful. What I didn’t like is that there are no menus and no prices. There was no list of drinks or prices. We chose a jug of sangria to share and that was £20, which I wouldn’t have minded if it wasn’t 80% lemonade. It was very weak and watered down. We ordered 3 set menus for 4 of us as my younger son is 9 - there is no availability of a child’s portion. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Casa Mia Restaurant and Cocktail Bar

St. Martins, Caerphilly

12/09/2021: Lovely atmosphere, looking over the castle. Stunning food and reasonably priced- cocktails were also a hit too

17/08/2021: Great atmosphere and a huge selection of wines.

The Bowl Full Tapas Bar

Carholme, Lincoln, >100£
29/06/2021: Informal surroundings. Helpful staff, who couldn't do enough for us. Lovely food and well priced. Small and friendly.
26/06/2021: We’ve been meaning to go for so long as we’ve heard great things and we weren’t disappointed. It was a little taste of the med right in my home town. A small but comfortable restaurant with a real feeling of that comfy lid Spanish vibe. The food was fantastic with some local produce being used to give it a little twist! Service was friendly and swift and not overbearing. Nice selections of wines I had a rosé Rioja it was crisp dry but still really fruity really lovely. Would definitely go again even my 10yr old wants to go back for the prawns & calamari and of course the churros

Portchester East, Fareham
04/06/2021: By a long way, this is the place to eat if you're anywhere between Weymouth and Brighton. The restaurant is small and welcoming, the smile, conversation, and attention to detail from the owner is second to none, the service from everyone else is faultless. We've eaten at many places but we couldn't wait to get back to Antonios again. The food as always is varied and has something for everyone. We love the tapas but tend to go for the a la carte 'fish' dishes in the evening. The sitting this time for us was mussels followed by Swordfish and calamari followed by Salmon. There isn't a thing I'd change, vegetables perfectly cooked and properly hot, serving size is bang on and the care to cooking things correctly is the same as any rosette or starred restaurants. Desserts are simple yet create the perfect end. Beautifully sweet yet balanced - my wife loves the bailey's creme brulee, and I can't cheat on the White Chocolate Brioche, try as might, this thing is like a dessert drug. Combine all of this with a warm evening, a bottle of Albarino and a great conversation with your meal partner of choice and you'll be hard beaten to find a better experience.
22/05/2021: First visit... have often looked at it and thought we would visit and today we did..certainly no disappointment. What a warm and friendly welcome..The food and choice is amazing...we will certainly be back and highly recommended

Casa Lola

Harestone, Tandridge
22/08/2021: Service was good and the food was outstanding as usual. There was only a couple of staff when we entered but as the restaurant filled more came in. Really good night
12/08/2021: Nice food. Good attentive staff

Ole Ole Tapas Bar & Restaurant

Minster, Lincoln, 20-30£
26/05/2021: We visited Ole Ole on Friday night. Everything was very good from the service through to the food. All of the food was cooked perfectly and was really tasty, even though these are tapas dishes they are not small and are generous portions. The only slight let down hence the very good rather than the excellent is that there was 6 of us and the table was very very cramped considering it’s tapas and it was very difficult once the food started coming to have anywhere near enough room BUT in the grand scheme of things that’s nothing as everything else was excellent We will certainly be returning very soon Best dishes has to be the paella, octopus and the patatas all delicious
25/05/2021: My wife and I made our first dining visit to Ole Ole on May 25, 2021 on the occasion of our 19th wedding anniversary. It was lovely, as we had missed out on our regular three month winter break to Benidorm, to have some genuine tapas again! My only complaint was that the paella used long-grain rice rather than the traditional short-grained variety: I hope this was just a temporary aberration! Otherwise everything was muy bien! We will be back.

El Cortador Tapas Bar

Folkestone Harvey Central, Shepway, <20£
20/05/2021: Visited for the first time when only outdoor dining was allowed. Semi pleasant day weather wise so was ok to sit outside. Shared food with hubby and all delicious. Look forward to a return visit soon…. 😋
15/05/2021: A lovely surprise birthday lunch organised by my husband. Food was excellent. Tasty, authentic and great quality ingredients. Staff was excellent not only friendly but spot on in terms of being helpful and attentive but not rushing us at all. It felt very ‘safe’ in a Covid way and the spot we had on the small balcony was perfect. Thanks for a lovely time. We will definitely be back .

Riverside, Liverpool
27/05/2021: Outstanding selection of tapas. Every dish was delightfully prepared and presented- impossible to choose a favourite. Friendly and efficient service.
27/05/2021: Not what it used to be, I really am disappointed, my wife have been going to this restaurant for a number of years, I have to say when it was located in a smaller unit, the service and the offer was perfect, intimate and very authentic. But as with a few of these ideas they fail as they grow, losing sight of the original dream to bring a little bit of slain to our shores. Originally this restaurant in my opinion was the best Spanish tapas in Liverpool. Loved the place, then they moved and they made matters worse in my opinion when they opened in the Albert dock, but this is my opinion, and I’m afraid it’s the last time I shall return to this eatery. Why? Well, the last few times have seen lots of different faces on the front of house team, not for the better, I appreciate more than most the negative impact the Covid has had on the hospitality industry, but i excuses here on this review for the bad service, on the day we arrived and made this place the first most looked forward to moment. It all began by being greeted, if you can call,it greeted by a very scruffy individual who looked very untidy, his shirt out and dirty scruffy jeans, hanging on his hips, his shirt out and looking very out of place in the front of the house, his mannerisms were Curt rude and truly not what we know is typical of anyone charged with greeting clients, he was rude, he was unpleasant and when eventually took it upon himself to allow us in after leaving us standing fir a length of time, I asked if we could sit near the window, his reply was short and dismissive, No! Those tables are booked, can’t you see we are busy....I looked around a thought, No, this is not busy, nowhere near the busy I have seen before, we were pointed to a table, and sit there, which at this point I said to my wife, enough, let’s go, but my wife is very understanding, and perhaps generous in her attitude, she said never mind about him, it’s my birthday and I have since lockdown looked so. Much to coming here, so ignore him, so it was to be, we took our seat, and were eventually greeted, properly by a lovely young lady, with a smile I might add, we were asked if we would like a drink, we ordered our drinks, they took a while to arrive, but we were not really in a hurry, but time it took, eventually we were asked what we would like to order, we ordered more or less what we ordered the very last we were there, and hoped that it would be good, well to be honest, the patatas bravas was good, not great, but acceptable, though not as hot as I would have liked, the plates arrived with big gaps in between, to long between portions, each one less enjoyable, less appetising, and the bread we ordered after several requests, arrived almost as we had finished the meal, all in all, very disappointed, with the quality of food and the service, except for the young lady from north wales, her first day, and I have to say, look after her she is good, the scruffy front of house man might learn a thing or two about manners and how to serve, from this young lady, note to the gentleman in his waistcoat, wandering to and from without a care fir the clients, I believe he was the general manager, you sir should take notice of what’s going on around you, the customers were not being served as they should have, and much anger could have been avoided if you spent more time serving than chatting....all said and done, it’s fair to say that a new generation of Spanish eatery’s are open and doing very well I might add, and clearly because they are hungry to serve, and keen to please, and deliver a very very nice taste of spain in both hospitality and food, and by the way during the marathon time it took to serve and deliver the food, those booked tables were still empty!? I find no pleasure in writing this review, but I hoping that those who care will accept in good faith, that we have been very very good customers in the past, and as such there’s no harm in expecting the service we once knew so well to continue and attract people like us who are loyal and will accept that at times things can go wrong, and if they do, we learn, and we try even harder, but right now we have found new places where we can indulge ourselves with the beautiful tastes of Spain, and where service comes naturally and the people delivering it actually care and value your custom. On this day in this restaurant we felt very let down, and it was not the first time, but we chose not to air our opinion, as we thought that, it was just an off day...

eS Bar, Keswick

Keswick, Allerdale
03/05/2021: Ate at Es on Friday, the threatened rain never happened so we were able to enjoy lovely food and a few drinks under the canopy. Wall and free standing heaters close by. Menu was slightly smaller but still plenty of choice. Staff as always very helpful but not intrusive. There were quite a few local residents eating/drinking which is always a good sign I feel. Made for a lovely atmosphere.
22/04/2021: We booked at 5.15pm a warm day but started to get cool on this April evening ( Covid restrictions in place ) but the heaters outside were great. I was toasty warm through out our evening meal. As vegetarians I was initially concerned as they have a reduced menu BUT I shouldn’t have worried. Great jackfruit options as well as salads , wedges, Nachos etc. And not forgetting the pecan brownie with vegan ice cream. The service was good too. A lovely evening.

Maritimo Wine and Tapas Bar

St Peter and the Waterfront, Plymouth
04/06/2021: So impressed! The food was delicious, wine just as good and such lovely service! We luckily got a table on the balcony. The views are so stunning. Best tapas in the UK so far. Thank you!!!
01/06/2021: More training in staff is required, especially the men. The bathroom facilities are not nice. They need a good clean, very dirty , toilet paper strewn across the floor. Notice to say wash hands for control of the virus. I couldn't even get a lather on the soap as had been watered down so much. There are no mirrors, the whole thing was not nice. Not sure when they were actually last cleaned. A bit of paint wouldn't go amiss. It's a shame because ambient of place and food is lovely . Get your act together Maritimo.

El Molino

Clock House, Bromley
20/05/2021: Found this amazing restaurant over a year ago, have been back countless times since and had a lovely experience every time! The food is absolutely delicious, you can tell it’s made with real fresh, Spanish produce. Cocktails are also fantastic and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. Couldn’t recommend enough - 11/10!
13/04/2021: I did not hesitate to book a table on their first day of opening after latest lockdown. Mouth watering food, excellent cocktails, and all the staff are so welcoming and made my visit a most enjoyable experience. With new outdoor seating front and back I am looking forward to many evening’s there this summer.
