Simbla Indian Resturant in Newcastle upon Tyne

In Newcastle on a Sunday evening and went into Simla, as we passed by it was nearly full which we took as a great sign. It was not wrong. Lovely family run restaurant. Best Indian meal we have had. Definitely recommend the Lamb Tadka the meat was so tender. Definitely would go back the next time we are in Newcastle.

Amazing food with lovely service. Staff were a friendly and the for was to die for. Portion sizes were perfect. Atmosphere is great as well.

Absolutley blown away by the customer service and beautiful food in this restaurant and it wholly deserves its 5*, number 1 status. Greeted at the door, we were early and we politely told the table would be 15mins….popped across the road for a pint, came back and waiter greeted us with first name and sat us at our table. The food - extremely tasty, well presented, varied and the restaurant is happy to make changes should you not like something on the menu. Possibly one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in my 55 years! The service - what can I say that hasn’t already been said? Attentive, interested, chatted to my niece about her choice of university course, wasn’t just being polite, but REALLY chatted. Wanted to know about us, what we’d done in Newcastle, what were our plans. We honestly felt like the only table in there so attentive were they. And finally, the price. Staggeringly reasonable. Just go.

We had a lovely meal. The staff were so attentive . All the food anyone ordered looked amazing too. Great atmosphere. Hope to be back on my next trip to Newcastle.

We were greeted at the door, and I gave my surname, and he greeted me by my first name without any tablet or list in front of him. This incredibly warm welcome set the scene for the rest of our visit. My acid test for any Indian restaurant is the quality of their Sag Paneer, their's was excellent! All the food we had was beautifully presented and had real depth of flavour. My son's Mixed Grill was superb. For a busy Friday night, the ambience and service were warm and friendly throughout. The guy on the front door came to check everything was going well, once more calling me by name. I was delighted to see Rice Pudding on the menu, a truly emotional experience! I had travelled up that day from Brighton to visit my son, who has recently moved to Newcastle. This was a memorable start to the weekend. I ran a Curry Club in Bucks for 16 years and set one up in Brighton 4 years ago. I can't stress how good this place is. Well done to the whole team.

This was our third visit to the restaurant. We were really happy the first two times but this visit was even better than previous ones. We were celebrating our son‘s birthday with his partner and all four of us ordered different things and tried each other’s dishes. We loved the sev puri chat pre-starters and then shared 4 starters. All were great but the paneer garlic chilli pepper and gunpowder prawns were particularly good. For mains we had grilled Marsala fish (sea bass), chingri malai prawn curry, Malabar coastal chicken curry and the chef made a chicken tikka pathia for us despite it not being on the menu. The chef varied the degree of spicing on a couple of the dishes as requested. We also had rice, bread and mixed tarka dal. We enjoyed everything. The dal was particularly good. We had a really lovely evening and would 100% recommend, just wish we didn’t live over 300 miles away but we’ll definitely be back on our next visit to Newcastle.

Truly excellent food. Well flavoured food and appropriate portion sizes. All topped off with friendly and professional front of house.

Having been regulars at the Simla 30 years ago with very fond memories, we returned on New Year's Eve. We were not disappointed - it was great! The welcome was warm, the staff friendly and attentive, the food delicious and the atmosphere great. I am sure it won't be another 30 years until we return. Only second time in Newcastle, and reading reviews we decided to try Simla . We were not disappointed the food was excellent lamb chops very good , scallops best we have tasted , means were very good aswell chicken and lamb , Very cosy restaurant with nice interior and the staff were excellent special mention to abdul who even took time to give us directions to the arena , Next time we come down from Scotland we will surely be back

Wow Arrived at 5.30 - lovely ambience and first class service but nothing compared to the beyond first class food. We will definitely be back. I’m asking myself why have I never visited in my 40 years of eating Indian food in Newcastle.

This restaurant was absolutely fabulous! Service was impeccable and didn’t have to wait long for each course. One of our party was a coeliac and the staff were amazing at helping us and had great knowledge. There was a wide range of options for this allergy as well. Such a lovely atmosphere, I can’t wait to go again!

The food was really good. It is a lovely family owned restaurant which is definitely worth a stop. We didn’t have a booking and they squeezed us in which was great. Food came fresh and quick.

My husband and I have just revisited Simla Restaurant and in our opinion the best Indian in Newcastle. We had an excellent meal and first class service. We cannot recommend Simla highly enough and urge anyone who hasn’t been to give them a whirl, you won’t be disappointed

Absolutely outstanding service and the food is to die for! Would definitely reccomend the lobster! Excellent portion for for the price! My partner had the scallops and wanted another plate they were that good! Make sure you visit!

Fabulous! Dined here after visiting Newcastle for the Great North Run. Highly recommend this restaurant, attentive to detail, welcomed on the doorstep. Food was divine, the menu was fantastic. Will be having a drive back from Yorkshire to visit again soon, well worth the trip. If you’re visiting the toon- Simla is the place to eat!

I visited Simla with my sister on Saturday 17th February and we were more than impressed! We were greeted by Abdullah, who made our experience incredible and did everything to make sure we had a perfect night. We both love Indian cuisine and we are so happy we found and chose this restaurant to dine in. We felt like we were taken to India! The food tasted absolutely devine, we were introduced to the poppadoms by Abdullah and the dips were the best dips we’ve ever had with poppadoms. We had the Kerahi curry and it was that good we had to order more!! The flavours, wow I was in heaven! The food was served very quickly and to a high standard, I asked for coriander on my naan bread but they accidentally forgot and without me even asking Abdullah noticed and rectified this straight away, you will be looked after very well. And to top it all off, the restaurant has the most beautiful ambience.. the artwork and music set the scene, I was in awe. Abdullah even took the time to tell us about the history of the restaurant. A truly beautiful restaurant and warm team! I hope Simla knows how lucky they are to have Abdullah, a truly amazing person. Luckily, we were one of the first customers so we were able to get a table before it got busy. You really are missing out if you don’t try this restaurant and we will definitely be going back to visit. Thank you for an amazing experience Abdullah and Simla!

Great food and portion sizes. Service was quick and friendly. I had the chicken tikka masala and thoroughly enjoyed. Family had biryani and the portion and flavours were fab. Would highly recommend as been here multiple times and not had a bad experience.

First thing you notice is the amazing staff very knowledgeable and friendly, the place its self has a warm lively atmosphere, fully booked out on a Wednesday night. We haven’t been in here before, one of our party had back in 2004. The food was very tasty and the service was spot on The inside of the restaurant was very subtle and tasteful. The music was in the background and ambient We had various starters and mains and we were all extremely full and satisfied at the end of the meal The staff were very informative and helpful I would recommend a visit to this restaurant and you won’t be disappointed

This was our second visit to Simla which has become a favourite in our group of friends. The menu is varied with excellent vegetarian and meat options with spice levels to suit everyone. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was attentive and efficient. The staff always go above and beyond to make groups feel comfortable and the addition of pre-dinner popadoms and post-dinner chocolates makes the experience feel extra special. I would recommend Simla to everyone! Thank you, we will be back.

So glad we got a table here. All waiters were very welcoming and food was excellent. I highly recommend the chingri malai curry for anyone who likes prawns. The menu had two chillis beside it but it wasn't too spicy, the coconut sauce was really well balanced. Also recommend the peshwari naan, that was really light and delicious.

Simla is a gorgeous resatraunt with a lovely vibe. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. The food was a genuine 10/10 and I’ll be back very soon!
