Outstanding veggie curries that are very much like the real thing. The sandwich is very Mumbai. They moved down the alley to get a larger site with seating (a rarity in the Grainger market), and believe me, they could still go larger. I'd give this place a 5 if it wasn't for the random queue/table grabbing, which is a bit too authentic Indian for me.

Popped in whilst visiting Newcastle upon Tyne on holiday. Absolutely the BEST Indian food I've ever eaten! My partner and I were like ravenous animals devouring our meals! We had the curry of the day (aubergine and courgette) and samosa chaat with banana lassi. The meal literally could not have been more perfect. If I lived in Newcastle I'd be eating here several times a week!

I was walking around Grainger Market before I head back to London after the Great North Run and saw Snackwallah. It is a very authentic Indian cafe with incredible food. I decided upon a Mumbai Sandwich which came with potatoes, cheese, onions, cheese, green chutney, dry garlic, and chilli chutney. As soon as I saw Masala Chai I knew I had to get some! The service was quick and friendly and absolutely love this place. I will definitely be back when I return next year!

Visited this place after years and must say there’s a massive improvement in the food quality. We tried the pakora, Bhel, samosa and the chai. Nothing close to authentic Indian food, but the taste was way better than the last time I tried this (pre Covid). The staff was great. The chai wasn’t any good so will give it a miss on my next visit. The decor was spot on!

All 100% vegan. The food was amazing. Had the samosa plate. All the chutneys were flavourful, and varying levels of spice. The drinks were equally as fantastic. Lassi was mango flavoured with a bit of spice, and incredibly good, couldn't even tell it was vegan. Iced chai latte had the right level of spice and was delicious. The staff were so friendly.

The place is located in a beautiful market hall. Colorful, nice, showing solidarity with Palestine. And bravo for that. But a culinary disappointment. Chai thin, served in a plastic cup. The tortilla is small and bland, the curry of the day is extremely spicy and under-seasoned, without a gram of salt. In short: we didn't like it.

Of all the stalls in Grainger Market, this place had come up in several online searches before our visit, so I headed straight there. There weren’t any tables unfortunately over lunch, as it’s clearly very popular, but there wasn’t much of a wait for food to arrive. We shared a curry banquet (curry of the day with daal, samosa, bhajis, chutneys, rice, and naan), plus a masala chai and a bhel puri. This was loads of food for two, and the portion of bhel particularly was generous. I wasn’t actually a fan of the curry (thakkali payaru - black eyed beans, spinach, and tomato), but everything else was really tasty. The chai was well flavoured without being too painfully sweet. I haven’t had coconut chutney in ages either! Well worth a visit. NB pricing on their website was out of date though when we went, I don't know if this has been updated recently or not.

Great veggie food with a real buzzy vibe located in the Grainger Street Food Market. The place itself is quite small and there is some seating but we managed to get a seat fairly quickly. It was a warmish day so we went for some of the cold dishes: bhel puri chaat and a side of pakora with various dips. The food was fab and we really enjoyed our visit there. So it’s a tiny cafe kind of spot inside Grainger market. They serve vegan and vegetarian food. The menu is pretty decent. The food is just passable or like it’s very normal. It’s Indian food Indian food usually is very complex but you can make it in a simple way as well. It’s that simplified version of Indian dishes. The portion size is just ok. I tried the curry of the day combo. Which keeps changing everyday - today it was baingan ka bartha ( mashed eggplant with spices ) and a portion of daal ( lentils ) and rice come with a portion of naan as well. One good thing about the food is that it’s not loaded with oil as most of the Indian restaurants here in UK do. More like a home cooked meal. It’s crowded during lunch and there is a bit of wait.

One of the most heart warming places to grab a bite in Newcastle. Tucked in the grainger market, this is a popular choice for locals and tourists. Food: With every visit, I find that the food only gets better each time. It took me a while to realise that everything on the menu is vegan. It is surprising how they've managed to serve great chai with vegan milk. They use whole spices in their food. This brings out the authenticity of the dishes. I had the curry banquet today. It was a well priced experience overall. I love the fact they have a rotating menu for curry of the day. Do lookout for specials over the weekend. I have had vada pavs and dosas in the past. Service: The staff is extremely friendly. The speed is quick. It is lovely to see the food served in stainless steel utensils. I think that was the cherry on the top for my experience. Atmosphere: The place was clean and spotless. It is a beautiful place with decorative tokens just to remind me of home. Thank you for the wonderful experience. BEST TAKEAWAY IN NEWCASTLE!! Have ordered from here many times now and it's been great every time. I've also ordered with friends/family who have all loved it too, vegans and non-vegans alike. As a vegan, there is nothing quite like a fully plant based menu and the peace of mind that brings when ordering, and I'm not aware of anywhere else with so many options. I would highly recommend the onion bhajis, garlic or peshwari naan, and the spinach paratha. There are so many curries to choose from, but some of my favourites include the seitan madras, jalfrezi, chana masala and aloo gobi. They also sell vegan pizzas and chips etc, so there's little reason to order from anywhere else - always better to support an independent family-run business. Very good value for money also. The staff are lovely and easy to get in contact with (via text etc) when needed. I would say delivery takes an hour on average - a perfectly reasonable amount of time, especially considering I'm a bit further out (North Kenton), and I think the owner delivers herself. So as long as you order with 1-2h in mind, you can't be disappointed! 🙂 I would love to come in-person if they re-open the restaurant one day.

An excellent Chefs special was had by all on our table. All the food was really good. Usual selection of beers as you’d expect including alcohol free. Attentive service. It was very busy on the Tuesday early evening which is always a good sign though that also meant it was quite difficult to have a whole table conversation due to background noise where we were sat. There are cubicle areas that are probably better for sound. The poppadoms to start were rather small but the mains were overly generous so more than made up for it!
