Heard good things and was in the area so popped in for lunch. Simple street food - all good. Now it’s a Vegan restaurant and normally I’ve not been too impressed when places are full on vegan - but got to try things. My hesitations were unfounded. It was lovely. Good curry and samosa. Well cooked and tasty. Filling too. £12 for a full plate. Good value too. Only thing I’d like to improve is a bit of heat in the curry. But I would come back if I was around toon.

We ordered the curry banquet, pani puri, vada pao and masala chai. While the effort was valiant, it was not authentic Indian street food. The golgappa pani was more like green chutney and the masala chai tasted like instant tea.

This place is amazing. Everything is vegan with a couple of gluten free options. Delicious food. Only downside for me personally was that my food was laced with coriander on top. Coriander haters, make sure you request none on your food! 😜

So it’s a tiny cafe kind of spot inside Grainger market. They serve vegan and vegetarian food. The menu is pretty decent. The food is just passable or like it’s very normal. It’s Indian food Indian food usually is very complex but you can make it in a simple way as well. It’s that simplified version of Indian dishes. The portion size is just ok. I tried the curry of the day combo. Which keeps changing everyday - today it was baingan ka bartha ( mashed eggplant with spices ) and a portion of daal ( lentils ) and rice come with a portion of naan as well. One good thing about the food is that it’s not loaded with oil as most of the Indian restaurants here in UK do. More like a home cooked meal. It’s crowded during lunch and there is a bit of wait.

Spotted this place when walking through the grainger market and decided to give it a try. Me and my wife ordered the curry banquet along with a tiki aloo burger and was massively impressed with the quality and taste. Never really tried vegan food but the banquet gave us the opportunity to try a couple of curries along with rice, bhaji, samosas and dips which was really interesting. All were exceptionally spiced and very tasty. Would definitely try again next time we’re in Newcastle.

One of the most heart warming places to grab a bite in Newcastle. Tucked in the grainger market, this is a popular choice for locals and tourists. Food: With every visit, I find that the food only gets better each time. It took me a while to realise that everything on the menu is vegan. It is surprising how they've managed to serve great chai with vegan milk. They use whole spices in their food. This brings out the authenticity of the dishes. I had the curry banquet today. It was a well priced experience overall. I love the fact they have a rotating menu for curry of the day. Do lookout for specials over the weekend. I have had vada pavs and dosas in the past. Service: The staff is extremely friendly. The speed is quick. It is lovely to see the food served in stainless steel utensils. I think that was the cherry on the top for my experience. Atmosphere: The place was clean and spotless. It is a beautiful place with decorative tokens just to remind me of home. Thank you for the wonderful experience. It is great to have such a place to go to in Newcastle city centre.

Wasn’t blown away with this meal to be honest. We had very slow service with ordering even though we were at the front of the queue, we still had to wait 5 minutes to be served. The chickpea curry of the day was pretty bland for a curry, naan portion was tiny, but as a whole our meal was pretty inexpensive. On the plus, the banana lassi was delicious (but tiny) and the decorations were nice when we ate in.

Wallah a place to have a Snack! I’ve been twice before but for some reason never left a review! Just like it tasted when I travelled Southern India years ago. Authentic and simple with gobsmacking flavour. Never have I tasted Indian food this good in the UK north of London. Curry Banquet of the Day £10. A spicy Dansak curry (white cabbage, tomato, cumin, garam masala, onion, red chilli and lentils) and rice with naan bread, the best daal in the Toon, 2 pakoras, 2 samosas, green chutney, tamarind chutney and mango chutney. You could have rolled me out the snack shack. Delightful. Washed down with a good Masala Chai. Would I recommend? Get there soon Will I return? I have and I’m on a bungee now, so every time I hit the Toon it’s my go-to place. Staff are lovely too. Well done SW

Well the five stars are for the ambiance and atmosphere. I would like to rate less than zero for chana chat masala, samosa chat and Mumbai sandwich. Chick peas should never be served chilled. The same applies for samosa chat. I wouldn’t call chana chat as a chat, it was a salad with mix of chick peas, snacks and onions. I don’t see any masala in the chat, all I see is the dominance of onions and chick peas. When it comes to Indian food, what makes the food different is the aroma and the magic of the spices. These attributes are missing in so called chana chat masala, samosa chat and Mumbai sandwich. Let me know if you need help.

As a veggie who loves Indian food I'm sick to death of going for an 'Indians' and getting bland, 'sauce stock' curries. Even going for side dishes they're often 'watered down' for an English palette = bland, bland, bland. What a refreshing change SnackWallah is, I only ordered the 'curry of the day' but oh what a joy! 2 curries and rice, and a dahl. All were bursting with flavour and freshness, a dahl, a black bean curry and the rice - the taste of real ingredients and food delivered simply but authentically. What a difference!
