Karma Kitchen in Newcastle upon Tyne

Sadly closed by COVID but we didn’t want to miss out when we visited Newcastle and arranged a collection. Everyone was helpful with our order which was professionally fulfilled. The menu is excellent with plenty of choice for veggies, vegans and omnivores who just fancy a change. Our starters, a seitan and a tofu dish were all good, as was our mushroom rice. All enthusiastically consumed back at our nearby hotel with a nicely chilled cava. We hope the restaurant will be open by the time we next visit Newcastle but if not we will happily take out again.

I’ve never eaten in the restaurant, but I’ve ordered takeaway before a few times and it’s always been brilliant food. Some mild curries for people like me who don’t like much spice and some spicier ones for those who do! The peshwari naan is my favourite thing. Looking forward to ordering again soon.

I'm a repeat customer at Karma Kitchen and they knock it out of the park every time. There's such a great variety of dishes and it's so good that the entire menu is plant based (although I know a lot of meat-eaters who love Karma Kitchen too!). When you eat the food you can always tell there's so much expertise, care and love gone into it. The staff are also consistently lovely when they come to deliver the food! Honestly can't recommend enough.

This meal was to die for. I had the peshwari naan, mushroom rice, tofu masala and seitan madras. The meal was served between two and had enough for us to eat for lunch the next day. Amazing service and so tasty ! Really cheap can’t wait to order again

Have had a few takeaways from Karma. I'm neither a vegan or a vegetarian but I love their food- easily the best South Asian food I've tasted in North East - or anywhere!

This was our first time eating at Karma Kitchen and I was so impressed! The food is absolutely delicious and the service is great. It’s really hard to find a decent vegan take away but this place really exceeded all my expectations. Thoroughly enjoyed it! The bhuna puri starter and veggie samosas are particularly good!

This is exactly what we have been looking for. The food is fantastic and the nationwide delivery was very prompt. The peshwari naan and rice are our favourites. Ordered twice and will order again!

Amazing food, lots of options on the menu, lovely staff and service. We’ve recently moved to Gateshead so making the most of the deliveries and making our way through the menu! They’ve been very accommodating with preferences, e.g. asking for vegetables instead of tofu! And it’s impossible not to order one of their tasty cakes from the menu! Highly recommend!

We were recommended this place and ordered a takeaway for delivery as a birthday celebration. We ordered a selection of starters and mains consisting banana blossom masala, tofu pakora, mixed vegetable bhuna puri, kattal chaat puri, seitan madras, Baingan Bhaitha, South Indian kattal curry, seitan puddina, paratha, garlic naan, sides and dips. Delivery was on time. Presentation, freshness and flavour were faultless. Would high recommend this place and will definitely order again.

We were after ordering a takeaway for a birthday meal and decided on Karma Kitchen having never been before or ordered a takeaway from here before. The curries were amazingly delicious and easily the best vegan curries we had had, so its great to have a place like this in Newcastle. The rice, naan breads, dips and popadoms were lovely too. Good value and didnt have to wait too long for delivery either. We were so impressed we ordered another curry a few days later for a treat and we rarely ever have takeout.

DELICIOUS - excellent vegan Indian food We had this restaurant in our sights when planning a short trip to Newcastle, and we weren’t disappointed. We ordered takeout ( in restaurant dining was not available during our stay due to COVID) and it arrived bang on time and lovely and hot. It was absolutely delicious and our chosen dishes were accompanied with popadoms and dips. We can’t wait to come back and visit again to try some more dishes from the extensive menu. Would definitely recommend!

Tried Karma Kitchen for the first time last night and it was amazing! 100% recommend the onion bhaji. It’s the first naan bread I’ve had since going plant based 8 months ago and it did not disappoint! My friend usually eats meat and he absolutely loved it, saying he won’t be buying from anywhere else in Newcastle now! Thank you so much for an amazing meal. We will definitely become regulars!

Ordered a Friday night takeaway and got some of the most ridiculously good food - everything was perfect! Easily the best curry(s) I’ve had in Newcastle, cannot recommend enough. Brilliant and friendly staff and 100% will order again.

Llegamos al final de un día ajetreado y no teníamos comida, así que necesitábamos comida para llevar. No soy vegano ni siquiera vegetariano, pero esto parecía interesante, así que pensé que deberíamos darle una vuelta. Fue una comida absolutamente deliciosa. Pedimos de forma bastante conservadora como primer intento con aloo gobi, Baingan Bhartha y Tarka dhal junto con arroz Peshwari y un naan. Los entrantes eran cebolla bhaji y tofu tikka. Sabores muy frescos. La berenjena fue un éxito especial, tanto ahumado como dulce, que se derritió en la boca. El Dahl tenía un gran carácter y profundidad y el gobi era el más fresco que hemos tenido. Imprescindible para los amantes de la comida y los amantes de la cocina india.

Debido a las restricciones de Covid 19, tuvimos una comida para llevar. Simplemente la mejor comida india para llevar que hemos tenido, y que fuera vegano fue simplemente la guinda del pastel. Usaremos este servicio nuevamente ya que la comida estaba deliciosa y nos mantuvieron informados sobre un pequeño retraso en la entrega. No puedo esperar para visitar el restaurante cuando se levanten las restricciones. ¡Brillante!

Cuando me volví vegano por primera vez, extrañaba desesperadamente la comida india por no saber en qué contenía ghee. Me enteré de Karma Kitchen por un grupo de Facebook y me alegro muchísimo, cuando vi el menú por primera vez, ¡estaba tan emocionado que todo era vegano! !Sinceramente, nunca he probado un plato malo y he probado la mayor parte del menú. Algunos favoritos son el tofu biryani, todos los naans, el KORMA es simplemente increíble. El seitán madrás, la yaca kattal, aloo gobi. . . solo algunos de mis favoritos!La comida es tan auténtica, tan fresca, tan llena de sabor y porciones enormes. También viene con papas fritas, ensalada y salsas con comida para llevar.También me encanta que sea un pequeño negocio dirigido por mujeres, merecen todo el éxito porque realmente dan el 100%. Si está pensando en visitarnos o hacer un pedido, hágalo. ¡No te decepcionará en absoluto!

One of the best meals we’ve ever had. My husband and I aren’t vegan and really, really enjoyed everything. We particularly loved the peshwari naan and the banana blossom masala. All of the chutneys were gorgeous, too. We will definitely eat here again.

I have never been disappointed with karma kitchen. The meals are incredible. I’ve never had better curries or naan. The atmosphere is so beautifully chilled. Since COVID 19 we have ordered frozen boxes to be delivered. The service has been exceptional. The boxes arrive on time and the meals taste exceptional. Especially love they are now doing compostable packaging. I can’t rate karma kitchen enough. All I can say it’s a must try. You can thank me later.

We come here (too) often and even during the lockdown managed to work with the team to get AMAZING vegan Indian food. In fact it's so good we almost have had a meal every week..oops!

Karma Kitchen is simply the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Currently delivering due to lockdown, I have received the loveliest food with the best customer service ever. I love this place, it's such an amazing dining experience, and right in the heart of Newcastle. Highly recommended.

It’s very rare that my family agrees on a restaurant but the one exception to that is always Karma Kitchen. Every member of staff we speak to when ordering is always an absolute delight. They always go the extra mile and it is lovely to see. They are great with handling nut allergies and intolerances which is so refreshing to see! Their food never misses a mark and is always absolutely amazing. The only non-vegan in the house is honestly the biggest fan which is such an accomplishment. If you are wondering whether you should visit/order from them absolutely don’t hesitate! I promise you will not regret itI feel so proud that this little gem is in Newcastle! Keep up the excellent work, we will absolutely be back!

We are regular takeaway customers - food is always amazing, never disappointed. Yum! Good variety of dishes and sides. And curry on a pizza!!

A week ago on (Friday 27th March) I spoke to Karma Cafe (Meera) about having a cake baked and delivered. I’d spoken to a number of bakers beforehand but was told because of the government guidelines on Covid19 they was closed until further notice. Meera said the cafe was closed but takeaway orders was still being made and the family run business was still delivering so a cake being baked was possible. I explained that I was from Lancashire and wanted it delivering to my partner who lives in Kenton, Newcastle. She asked for what kind of designs I would like and I was asked to have a look on their instagram page. A few moments later, I rang back and placed my order (A simple victoria cake, with buttercream and fresh strawberries) I was told that a deposit wasn’t necessary which was strange, but the cake should be getting started on tomorrow (Saturday). Meera said she didn’t have cake boxes in stock but would find something to transport the cake into.

Fantastic food and really friendly staff. Tofu pakora was amazing , lots of choices and numerous vegan desserts.

A wonderful meal. It was so nice to have such a large choice of vegan Indian dishes. Including traditional Indian desserts. It was our first visit but certainly won't be the last.

I am not a vegan or vegetarian but I thought the food was really tasty. We ( 4 of us ) had a mixture of starters and mains and all were excellent. Definitely will return.

My partner and I came here for a late lunch and loved it. Friendly atmosphere and staff. The food was really tasty. We were particularly excited to try the garlic naan bread as normally restaurants don't make it vegan. We will be sure to pay a visit again next time we're in Newcastle.

This was our first visit and we hope it won't be the last. Amazing, authentic food with friendly staff and quick service. There's no frills, but I prefer a down to earth experience over posh anyway.

This is the second visit to karma kitchen . We received a warm welcome from staff and were quickly handed menus which was a Christmas special . The food was absolutely delicious would highly recommend it .

The service, atmosphere and food were fabulous. We had a selection of starters and main courses to share. My daughter said the onion bhajis were the best she had ever tasted. The pakoras were lovely and the naan bread was delicious. It was great to have such a wide choice.

Do yourself a favour and try the food at Karma Kitchen, it is super tasty and really good for you. Nice restaurant and good service.

Went here with friends after my daughter said it was good we are all meat eaters but loved everything we tried so much flavour absolutely lovely the staff who are all ladies were so helpful and chatty and were delighted that we enjoyed our meal we managed cake and coffee to finish and again the flavours of the cakes were fab even if your not a veggie go and enjoy a meal here you won't be disappointed

Loved this restaurant, they altered the Thali menu for us as we didn’t want anything too hot, served really delicious home cooked food, at one point I thought the texture was so like chicken I grabbed the staff and she assured me it was all vegan! Great atmosphere and price .. tell your friends ! Oh and they do Take Away too ! We’ll be back.

DELIVERY: Food was a little late but as always the food from here was fantastic. We got a bottle of wine for the delay which wasn’t needed but appreciated. If you’re vegan - try it. If you’re not - try it. Just try it.

I love this place so much. I've been ordering take aways from them about a year and been in twice to the restaurant I've never been disappointed. There is so much flavour in each curry, packed with ingredients and of such a high standard.

First time at this restaurant for me and my husband and we thought the food was outstanding. We are not vegans but the food we had was the best Indian food we have tasted. Omg the desserts, I wanted to try them all. The service is lovely, staff are very helpful. The restaurant is very relaxing and prices are very reasonable. They also have a good choice of beers and wine if you want alcohol. We'll definitely be back xx

Everyone I take to this place has loved it. The staff are lovely, the food is great and the atmosphere could not be more relaxed. An ideal little business, it's now my go-to for a meet up with friends over a nice meal. The fact the whole place is vegan means I can eat without worrying, but if you're not vegan don't be put off! This place has so much to offer :)

Worth driving 240 miles & running a half marathon for - we planned our Great North Run weekend around having a vegan curry from Karma Kitchen & we were not disappointed. A big thank you to Karma Kitchen for great service & making us very happy vegans, can't wait to try the frozen delivery service too. Might pass on the half marathon & just have the curry next time though!

I went here for the first time on Friday for an impromptu family meal. I can honestly say one of the best curries I've ever had. Tasty and fresh. I will definitely be going back to try more of the menu. Still gutted I forgot the leftovers on our way out!

"Karma Kitchen" is a north Indian vegan restaurant in Newcastle. Very friendly staff ensured that I was looked after. The portion size they serve here is much more than what most restaurants serve in Newcastle. You will leave satiated.

Really chill environment and amazing food a go too for everyone 🤤 Indian food served as it best !!! Everything homemade didn t experience such good food for a while.

The food is absolutely wonderful! It is lovely having an Indian restaurant that is 100% vegan and having so much choice as there are very few about. The curries range from very mild to hot and there are lots of options for sides.

I can honestly say we wholeheartedly enjoyed our take-a-way today. On arrival, staff were so polite and seemed really sweet. Then the FOOD... We struggle to find food we both like as my partner is a little fussy, but holy smokes we were blown away. 100% will come again next time we are up in Newcastle!

I was looking for somewhere to have dinner with my vegan friend. There had been a good review of Karma Kitchen in paper so - even though vegan and/or curries are not really my choice - we gave it a go. Really glad we did. Lovely, flavourful food, which was a long way from the plate of "tofu in a brown sauce" I was fearing.

You would walk past the door of this restaurant without even noticing. It looks as though it might be a takeaway but venture upstairs and there is a lovely little restaurant. There is a huge amount of choice on the menu. The rajma was one of the nicest dishes I have ever eaten. The naan breads are absolutely massive so bear that in mind when ordering as we were completely stuffed. Although there is no drinks menu they do serve alcohol! - the usual Indian beers.

Good food and friendly service. My (vegetarian) friend and I have eaten here twice now and enjoyed it both times.

I visited Karma Kitchen last night for the first time. We went for a friends birthday as a party of 16. The menu had a huge range of different Indian dishes, all veggie/vegan! I was spoiled for choice. Considering we were such a large party, all the food arrived at the same time, piping hot and with no errors. Staff were amazing and even made my friend a vegan/GF birthday cake that was nothing short of amazing. Could not have picked a better venue for a group meal and will definitely be making this our new birthday spot. Thank you Karma Kitchen!!

Me and my friend had the cashew korma and the chickpea masala. It was absolutely lovely. The food was cooked to our requirements. Naan was absolutely beautiful. The mango drink was also great. Would definitely come back.

The staff were friendly and the service was efficient, it was no trouble at all for them to cater to my very specific dietary requirements. The food was really lovely, all round a great experience...

Me and my friend who is also vegan tried Karma Kitchen on a whim and we are SO GLAD we did! My friend had just got back from a holiday in India and she was stunned at the quality and authenticity of the food, and the fact that the whole menu is just vegan so there’s no messing about with swapping ingredients around etc. We had the thali for 2 people and every dish was beautiful, it was more than enough food for us both without feeling absolutely stuffed. Will 100% go back :)

From the outside the place looks a little dodgy - a narrow doorway leading up some steps. These steps absolutely stunk of cigarette smoke and I almost turned back and went somewhere else! However Karma kitchen was quite nice.

The food is amazing. Don't be put off by the fact that they don't use meat. As a meat eater it was a fantastic experience and will 100% return!!!

Lovely vegan food, ambience and people tucked away in the Bigg Market. Worth a look in if you are in the area.

I visited with a friend during a special deal that they were offering for veganuary. Indian food is my favourite cuisine and I've got to say that Karma Kitchen ticked all the boxes, it's also great to know that there's another restaurant to cater for vegans and eco/health-conscious foodies. We ordered a thali tray so we could sample different meals and the food was delicious and flavoursome, even my non-vegan friend agreed. The staff were very accomodating and friendly, recommending dishes for us to try. The location on the Bigg Market is central to town and its easy to find, although be aware that it is up a steep staircase. I would definitely visit here again in the future.

We came for a Valentine Day treat as we are vegetarian trying to become vegan. We waited a long time for our food, perhaps over two hours looking back, and were not told why. I have just read there was a staff shortage, which makes me feel bad we could not just be told that at the time. We did not receive a pot with seeds or a voucher which was advertised. We were only served one drink all night nobody ask us if we would like another. It was very cold in the place. The staff were not very good at being attentive to the customers apart from a few that I think they knew as regular customers perhaps? I also found the toilets quite poor considering how lovely the decor in the main restaurant is. The food was so flavoursome but was served to us in porcelain bowls not Indian style metal dishes so it still got so cold.

I was taken to this restaurant as a valentines surprise and loved every minute of it. We were given welcome drinks on arrival and cute pots with sunflower seeds to grow at home, there was also some fabulous live music being played by a Guatarist and violinist.

Squirrelled away in the Bigg Market, an unassuming entrance leads you upstairs to a truly wondrous experience.

We've been twice now, once for dinner and once for the Indian breakfast. They were both absolutely brilliant - we will keep coming back! The dinner had amazing freshly made naan, and lots of different curries which were really well spiced. The Indian breakfast had incredible battered bread, delicious spicy mushrooms and beans, a seitan sausage (which my meat-eating companion couldn't believe wasn't meat!) and a potato cake. The food here is brilliant value, and there's also a really interesting drinks menu with a rose latte!

Went for the first time, and definitely will return!!! Amazing food and great atmosphere. Staff are all lovely. The place has such a positive and chilled vibe, I loved it.

We visited early evening after reading good reviews. Although we are neither vegetarian or vegan we welcome a break from meat dominated menus. There was an excellent choice of both starters and mains and although not listed, we kicked off with popadoms and pickles;the former being light and grease free and the latter vibrant in colour with great flavours. The pakora starters were excellent as well as the cauliflower and potato main, which was spiced to our taste. The okra dish was tasty but not as good in texture. Well cooked rice and crisp rather than the usual over inflated oily nan, were perfect accompaniments. Very pleasant and helpful staff made for an enjoyable experience and our only minor gripes were the lack of a wine list even though they offer it and the red we chose being too cold to fully appreciate the quality.

It was a freezing snowy night in Newcastle and we were the first of the evenings patrons to arrive.

I’m really sad to have to leave this review as I was so excited to discover a new vegan place in town and the previous reviews were all so positive.

My partner and I went on a whim in search of a good vegan restaurant and it was amazing- the food was absolutely delicious and great value for money, and the staff were super friendly. Highly recommended, will definitely return!

My friend and I have been going to the Taj Palace once a month for the past two years. On our visit in December we were informed that it had changed to a vegan menu. Being confirmed meat eaters this came as a shock. However, we stayed and had a lovely meal. We returned last week for our second visit, and I feel I can now post a review.

Being away from home 3 nights a week gives me an opportunity to sample different restaurants and cuisines. So tonight I tried Karma Indian Cafe, not realising it was vegan at first I sat down and ordered a glass of wine. Once I realised they didn’t serve meat I thought I’d give it a go and OMG was I pleasantly surprised. I had onion baji starter followed by tempeh fried in onions and ginger, I loved it, had plain basmati rice with a rotti to go with it. Most definitely will go back again.

I wanted to try Karma Kitchen as soon as I heard about it. The menu sounded amazing and the proximity to my work meant I could pop in over lunch. I was not disappointed. It was just as I’d hoped and more.
