The Fat Hippo Underground

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
25/04/2022: Wanted to eat here as my sort of food and close to hotel. Just walked up Fri night but no tables for 45mins (845) - fair enough so came back then. Friendly staff, hard to choose off the menu though as so many great options. Chicken buffalo starter was lovely as was loaded waffle fries. Burgers were excellent, would love to come here again
22/04/2022: Eaten here on more than one occasion, food is excellent. Only seem to order the pb&j burger as I love it. You have to pay for dips which seems regular practice now, however when our meal came we were asked if we wanted sauce and we got a bottle! Overall I will continue coming back and I would suggest trying it. Only thing to note is the welcoming attitude at times, on some of the visits I have had a great experience from start to finish and some visits this one included, the front of house person was very abrupt, I have left a negative review in the past. Weirdly on this visit we were sent away because we were 20 mins early for a reservation (the restaurant was empty) and then when we came back it was a different person we were then 10 mins late and no bother at all. Weirdly the guy even apologised when we were sited at our table that it was “nothing personal but it’s policy’. I persevered this time around and came back and ate because I love your food but some people won’t.

Twynersh Hungry Horse

Chertsey St Ann's, Runnymede
14/02/2022: Had a very good family lunch here yesterday. There was 36 in our party and the staff worked incredibly hard to look after us all. Everyone had a great time and big thank you to all the staff, Anita, Megan, Lauren, Kelly, Stef, Gammon, Clare and Jane.
12/02/2022: This evening myself my partner and his daughter visited the Hungry Horse pub in Chertsey. We are usually satisfied with the service and food, however tonight we had a very poor experience. The pub was extremely busy and full of unruly children. There was not enough staff working to look after the number of customers in the pub and we did not feel welcomed. We waited for a very long time for our drinks to arrive, they still didn't arrive when our food was bought out and we had to ask if they were coming. We were told to order at the bar, we had already ordered and paid via the app. We also had to ask for our side plates for our sharing platter and cutleryAfter waiting a while for these to arrive my partner eventually went to the bar to chase these up as our food was getting cold.Once we started eating we realised we were also missing the nachos and dips from our sharing platter. There were no staff around to ask about this and by this point we were ready to leave! We were planning to stay and have pudding but the experience we have had this evening has unfortunately put us off. I would appreciate a response to this email, we were led to believe now the pub was under new management the quality of food and service would improve, sadly it has not!

Five Guys Burgers and Fries

Davyhulme East, Trafford
21/02/2022: Any visit to a Five Guys is rewarded with great burgers (free toppings) and fires as was the case again here. However, it was all a bit chaotic and slow from electronic ordering boards that didn't work to slow face to face ordering and then a wait that shouldn't have taken that long while it just seemed like chaos in front of and behind the counter,
05/02/2022: The milkshake was lovely expensive but nice. The burger bun was soggy after being wrapped in tin foil grease, sauce and cheese all over the foil no longer on the burger. The fries were in a cup with no lid and then randomly scoops just thrown in the bag so presentation awful. Tasted lovely with my first bite hit then noticed it was pink rather than fully cooked. We had this as a take out so was not able to return already in hotel room. I would not go again for £34 for 2 burgers, 2 lots of fries and 2 milkshakes I would expect much better.

City and Hunslet, Leeds, <20£
27/01/2022: 5/5 as always. Byron’s is a classic burger place of Leeds. Very solid menu. ‘The cheese’ standard cheese burger. The staff are lively and easy to talk to. The onion rings are a must try if you love a good chunky onion ring with a tasty batter. For only 4 pound as well it’s very well priced. Monday - Thursday features a well priced burger fries and drink deal for 9.95 as well which I highly rex ones. Obviously it comes with limited options but for a quick bite it hits the right spot. Will definitely be back

SmoQue Grill

New Brighton, Wirral
21/02/2022: My boyfriend and I have had many burgers from here and the one on Burgess Hill and never been disappointed. All fresh ingredients, sides are also excellent. More expensive than McDonalds or BK but the quality and taste is so much better. Yummy cheesecakes as well. Highly recommend.
