Delicious food and outstanding service. April 14th 2024. Highly recommend! The entire staff was courteous, helpful and fun! Awesome, delicious food. Book a table!

Excellent food and great service. Scott was very helpful with recommendations especially the beef haggis to start. Both the shoulder of beef and sausages were delicious and don’t miss the sticky toffee pudding!

Great and friendly ,bustling place ,busy but were called back within minutes for a dinner spot.Food was out of this world and staff were friendly and attentive.

This was our first meal (dinner) in Edinburgh and it did not disappoint. The food is the hero although the staff were very friendly. The place isn’t fancy but I wanted to go back again and again. The slow cooked beef and mash, the chicken and mash, the soups.,. All excellent.

We kicked off our Edinburgh adventure with a mind-blowing feast at Makars Mash. The service was as smooth as butter, and the food and drinks were an absolute taste explosion! Definitely a must-try!

Had lunch in the walk-in part, great food in a lovely atmosphere. All the staff are attentive but a special mention to our waitress Jess who went above and beyond! We’ll definitely be back to a restaurant where the food and service is the best in Edinburgh!

Walked past a couple of times thinking tomorrow we will go in. Well we finally made it on a cold windy day. We ordered haggis, vegan haggis, and boar sausages with different mash. Everything was delicious and the Vegan haggis was enjoyed by our friend. The mash potato combinations were amazing and we all chose a different one. Just what was needed totally recommend. The mushroom farm downstairs is worth a visit.

Stopped here for drinks and to rest our feet after a long walk. Ended up having a starter of haggis, neeps and tatties. It was amazing! Also Lovely staff and quick service. Would definitely come again and stay for dinner next time!

Wow, once again this place didn’t disappointment. Food was amazing, so tasty, beautifully presented and totally delicious. What makes this place even better is the staff, we hadn’t booked but were quickly seated and all of the staff exude a genuine warmth and friendliness, they really care about customer service. Having not visited for about 6 years since last being in Edinburgh, this place deserves all the success it is getting, I only wish there were more of these across the country to visit closer to home, I’d certainly be a regular!

Oh my so lovely. My whiskey chicken and Aplplwood cheese mash was divine. My daughter had black pudding mash and honey gammon also in her words spectacular and yummy. Wish we had this food near us. Great service and our waiter Neo was so helpful and friendly.

Good scotch eggs, meat and gravy - highly recommend! We were so full when we finished eating. The portions are very generous and the mash, as you imagine as their signature dish, is really good. Staff were great and it's always nice to support an independent business. Tip - don't bother with the non-alcoholic gin. Wasn't really to my taste, sorry owners! Pro tip - only get an extra side of mash if you are absolutely sure you'll have room.

We went to the walk in restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. We weren't disappointed. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Staff were very attentive, but not in your face and happy to share recommendations if they were asked. Cannot recommend enough.

Edinburgh was a delight! We loved our dinner at Makars Gourmet Mash Bar. Daisy, our server took great care of us. There were four of us, the men ordered the Boar Sausage with mash and both were very pleased with the amount of food and the wonderful taste. My daughter-in-law had the ham and mash and I had the chicken breast and cheddar mash. I ate every bite. The mashed potatoes were yummy and the chicken and gravy were so good. My daughter in law said that the ham was delicious and different from anything else she’s ever eaten. Nice end to our day in Edinburgh.

Perfect for everyone! My husband and I are locals and my parents were visiting from England, we also brought along our 8 week son in a pram, which we flagged to the restaurant ahead of time so they put us in a booth with plenty of space for the pram. The food was absolutely incredible, lots of choice and high quality and my parents can’t wait to go back. Service friendly and efficient. Cannot recommend enough.

Visited this restaurant after it was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Absolutely beautiful lamb shank, the cheddar cheese mash was perfect and the gravy was so tasty. Great fast and friendly service by Jess and Niamh, lovely atmosphere, highly recommend.

This place came from a recommendation and honestly it’s nothing more than average. We had the bonnie prince carlie chicken and mature cheese mash (mash didn’t taste any different from buttered mash I do at home) a disappointing dish, my other half had wild boar sausage and wild grain mustard mash (seemed to like it) Service was quick and food came out within a short period (5 to 10 mins) so food must have been reheated and served.

Can’t recommend this place enough. I had the steak with mustard mash and my husband had the Gammon with cheese mash. Staff very efficient and friendly. Also when we got to table provided water without having to ask. The local cider was really tasty (think it was called Thistly Cross). Will definitely be back on our next trip to Edinburgh.

I ordered the sausage with classic mash and my son ordered the beef with the horseradish mash i think. Very speedy service. Meats were good but the mash was slightly gluey texture as if over-beaten, the gravy was bordering on granule gravy, it must have been something similar as was thick and monotone brown. Plates were freezing cold so unfortunately 2 minutes after setting on the table everything sort of congealed. Pity we were looking forward to it. Reasonable price but let down by silly but quite important things if they want people to keep going back.
