Poppies Garden Centre & Tea Room

Oban North and Lorn, Argyll & Bute, <20£
29/11/2018: My 18 year old son has Autism, Aspergers, Non Organic Delay and Epilepsy. He is 6ft2 and is obsessed with Christmas. He truly believes he is an elf and often, to the terror of small children, dresses as such. Sadly! last year he was demotted, by the big man Santa, (his words, not mine), for not making any toys. He became a cookie elf. lol The owners of Poppies really understand my son's needs and their commitment to the community. I was stunned when they offered to close Poppies and allow my son to private shop, in the company of a naughty elf. I had a coffee and lush scone with a larger than life elf, whilst my son was taken in hand and supported to make all his christmas purchases. All of his purchases were individually wrapped and bagged. The shop is sooooo christmasy that he honestly believed he was in lapland. There were so very many choices to meet anyone's needs and wants. The gifts available will bring smiles to the old and young alike. A HUGE thank you to the team.
15/11/2018: For years we've been visiting Oban and driving past Poppies thinking it was just a garden centre - it is not! We now call in every time on our way up from Durham because it serves really decent coffee and wonderful cakes and pastries. It's easy to park, and the loch side views from the car park are magnificent. The retail shop is full of quirky, beautiful things and the staff are friendly, happy people. Oh, and BTW, they also sell plants and stuff like that.

Stockbridge Kitchen

Inverleith, Edinburgh, City of
13/11/2018: Lugar indicado tras visitar el Dean Village para tomar un té con su correspondiente scones o pastel
29/10/2018: Just when passing on Saturday afternoon, we decided to try the Stockbridge Kitchen after having walked past it a million times previously. We were greeted by two lovely members of staff and a beautiful selection of cakes. We ordered two bowls of their world famous chicken vegetable and rice soup with two large slices of bread which was as good as the name implies. It kept us full and content for hours! Best soup we've had in ages!

Oban Fish and Chip Shop

Oban North and Lorn, Argyll & Bute, 20-30£
29/11/2018: I had the traditional fish & chips, and it’s sooo yummy! The batter was light but the fish was fresh and flaky which was the exact right taste for me! I would recommend this place if you want a quick fix and tasty food!
26/11/2018: After last nights disappointment at Eeusk we decided to trust our local pals and Rick Stein's recommendations. I can only agree with R S, the best fish and chips ever. Succulent haddock in a light crispy batter done to perfection with their own tartar sauce. And a lovely pot of tea. My other half had a half chip-shop chicken and chips with a coffee. However the menu boasts other tasty treats that could keep you well freed for a fortnight's visit to Oban. Service, fabulous.

La Potiniere

North Berwick Coastal, East Lothian, 60-100£
09/10/2018: Absolutely wonderful food, the attention to detail is terrific. The artisan homebaked bread that preceded the starter was delicious, and that set the tone for what was a wonderful meal. We loved the ambience, the silver service - everything was magnificent. We'll be back for sure!
02/10/2018: This is a hidden gem of a restaurant and well worth the trip from Edinburgh. The menu was outstanding and exceptionally accommodating of dietary requirements- including some rather unusual requests! It was incredible how innovative the chef was in overcoming some of my guests dietary requirements- a breath of fresh air! The home made bread was delicious and the gluten free option using coconut flour was a real treat and showed how creative GF food can be. The starters of beetroot panna cotta and courgette & rosemary soup with feta cheese were stunning- perfectly sized portions and beautiful presentation. The mains were fresh and flavoursome. The use of local produce is wonderful and the ingredients and flavours sing in perfect harmony. This is a chef who clearly respects food and flavours. Service was friendly, respectful and attentive. And £27 for 3 courses is an absolute steal! We opted for coffee and home made tablet instead of desert- the toasted marzipan and rose and pistachio dark chocolate was sublime! Superb cooking and the finest local ingredients made for a fantastic birthday celebration. I'm hoping I don't have to wait till my next birthday to come back! Thank you!

The Cellar Door

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
18/11/2018: Heerlijk gegeten. Hebben voor ieder wat wils op de kaart. Ik had pompoen risotto welke erg goed op smaak was. Bediening was enorm vriendelijk.
17/11/2018: We had a superb evening meal at this very welcoming restaurant last Tuesday. Each course was beautifully cooked and presented using locally sourced ingredients. The service was excellent and our hostess ensured that we had a very special evening when we were celebrating our anniversary. We will definitely visit again when next in Edinburgh and we will highly recommend the restaurant to others.

Perth City Centre, Perth & Kinross
02/09/2018: Turned up late on a Sunday evening but were welcomed by staff. Ordered musselsto start but were then told there was only one portion available. Ordered scallops instaed but were then given the the one portion of mussels free of charge! Rib eye steak to die for our mains!!
01/09/2018: We have been to Kisa's several times since my last review, and it has never failed to please.

Castle Stalker View Cafe

Oban North and Lorn, Argyll & Bute
04/11/2018: I visit this place every year with my wife and have even arranged for my bike club to motor up last year from England. The calling is the cheese scones...unbelievable!! The staff appear to always be the same (no idea where thew dog is) particularly a young lady on the till with a pony tail and friendly, helpful and a credit to the cafe (I should after all this time know her name) she even wrote down the recipe for said scones. Visited on 2/11 and it made my year.
01/11/2018: We discovered this cafe last year and made a special trip to revisit again today as we were so impressed. It's a real find, with stunning views from the picture windows to Castle Stalker and across the loch.

Couper's Creek

Black Isle, Highland
25/11/2018: A hot bowl of Cullen skunk was my introduction to this lovely restaurant. Friendly folk and really fabulous food. Cakes that will make you want to move to Cromarty permanently. Only 90 minutes by plane and a 40 minute drive from most anywhere in the UK...and well worth the effort. Don't let the shipping forecast deter you.
01/11/2018: Purely on spec stopped off for well deserved refreshments. Excellent drinks, service, and coffee and walnut cake provided by very friendly staff. The cafe is spacious and welcoming with a selection of paintings by local artists for sale. Thank you.

The Storehouse

Cromarty Firth, Highland
02/12/2018: Had a few days in Muir of ord decided to have a drive out to this lovely cafe the food is excellent loads to choose from I went for the roast dinner which was lovely .I would highly recommend this cafe and gift shop . Lovely views across the cromarty firth and the oil rigs in for repair .
01/12/2018: Shame it was bucketing down. Lovely little shop, good coffee and cake. Had the weather been clear, there would have been a great view of the estuary.

Auld Alliance Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway
25/11/2018: A warm welcome, excellent service and culinary delights lovingly prepared by owner/chef Will Gill using only the finest quality local ingredients make the Auld Alliance a wonderful dining experience.
07/11/2018: This was our third visit to this restaurant. We visit Kirkcudbright every year for a weeks holiday. Again the food and service was excellent. Highly recommended Chris & Mary Shirley

Crouch End, Haringey
03/12/2018: I highly recommend the Haggis Arancini for a touch of Scotland via Italy in this cosy Crouch End restaurant.

Galashiels and District, Scottish Borders, 20-30£
02/12/2018: Very friendly staff and good atmosphere. Gave it a second chance as id had xmas meal with family previous year. I ordered the veg stir fry and found it tasted ok but rather boring woth more carrots than anything else. I was the only vegetarian ( try to follow a vegan diet which can be difficult eating out) in the group. One other person had the veg stir fry and also found it ok but boring and heavy on carrots. It was described as veg and nuts but not many nuts there. I was surprised they were doing exactly same veggie dish as last xmas. There was one other veg main which i didnt choose because it looked to contain dairy which i dont eat. For me it was a very overpriced stir fry as it lacked any interesting ingredients. How about more nuts and more interesting veg? The melon starter was tasty but portions could be bigger. Wont be returning next christmas unless i see more interesting veggie choices. What about so some vegetarian roasts?
02/11/2018: Had been Inn for a quick breakfast as it is my favourite place for sinday morning after mass. As usal best breakfast and good service too.

Steòrnabhagh a Deas, Eilean Siar
11/09/2018: Wir tranken hier einen Kaffee und aßen Scones und die schmeckten sehr gut. Ansonsten gab es verschiedenes Gebäck.
30/08/2018: Lovely coffee and very nice shop. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Definitely be coming back soon!

Red Pepper Restaurant

Thurso, Highland
26/10/2018: We have eaten here many times and enjoyed it immensely, however I must say something about our last meal, the prosseco came in an ice bucket with no ice, upon asking for English mustard we were brought SACHETS on a plate, we would have expected that in a cafe or roadside burger bar, the sachets of mustard were not even branded and after biting it open with my teeth and squeezing it, we likened it to a splat of imagine for yourself, also the steak was not up to standard either, the waiter was attentative to our needs and brought my 82 mother exactly what she asked for, I must say unless the sachets are ditched we wont be coming back.
22/10/2018: We enjoyed our first dinner at the Red Pepper so much, we came back again the next night. All meals were great - we tried the duck, venison and monkfish. The accommodated my wife's gluten allergy. The sticky toffee pudding may be the best in Scotland!

One Devonshire Gardens

Hillhead, Glasgow City
30/10/2018: As a special birthday celebration, we booked a champagne afternoon tea. Everything about the experience was excellent. We sat in the bar which had a lovely fire going and was really cosy. The service was pleasant and very efficient. We sat for ages chatting after we’d finished and it was made clear we were welcome to do so. Highly recommended. We’re already planning a return visit.
26/10/2018: I was here a few weeks ago on a rainy Wednesday night on a last minute overnight business trip after my flight was cancelled and I was diverted to Glasgow. I'd never been to this hotel before but must say i was very impressed.
