Etive Restaurant

Oban South and the Isles, Argyll & Bute
30/08/2020: Our first visit to Etive and not our last, God willing! The two young proprietor’s, chef, John and Sommelier, David, run & opérate a First Class, welcoming and relaxed restaurant. The ambience and decor are just perfect. The food from the land and sea or vegetarian tasting menu speak for themselves. We thoroughly enjoyed beef tartar, trout, salmon and pea purée tartlets after our fresh bread & Edinburgh butter. We then devoured a beautifully presented hand dived scallop in a cauliflower purée. Absolutely delicious. This was followed by a fresh grouse Main which was beautifully cooked. A double churned Oban whiskey ice cream with honey and oats was presented to us next prior to a sublime and perfectly risen raspberry soufflé with vanilla ice cream. We opted not for the wine pairing. However, David’s advice regarding a South African white to accompany our meal was much appreciated, as was his advice for a single glass of Pinot to compliment my grouse main dish. Believe me, these two, young hospitality talents know what they’re talking about and deliver excellence from the kitchen & front of house. Go and enjoy the food, wine, aperitifs, whiskies and whole Etive experience. A magical evening and next time in Oban, we’ll be back for sure. Make sure you reserve a table in advance. Thanks gentlemen. An absolute treat and you fully deserve your accolades and future success.
28/08/2020: Once again, a meal and an experience unsurpassed. Fabulous food - I mean TRULY fabulous food. No point in describing the menu, because it changes all the time. But worth highlighting a couple of points:- John, the chef patron, can do things with a simple spud that you have to taste to believe.- David, the sommelier patron, will never - EVER - steer you wrong for an accompanying drink.Tonight was, as always, an absolute delight. First time I’d tried grouse, and that dish absolutely sang. The guys have got the whole spacing, hygiene and tracking thing well and truly nailed, too. Visit Etive; enjoy magnificently prepared and presented food using wonderful local ingredients; indulge in little known but ideally matched wines - is there any better way to spend an evening?David, John - thank you both very much! And thanks to Sandy and Ann for your company, too.

Perk Coffee and Doughnuts

Inverness Central, Highland
28/04/2020: This drop-in coffee shop has pretty much everything going for it-- a bright, cheerful exterior, a cozy interior with a little bench, reasonable pricing for excellent treats. Artisan donuts? They are beautiful as well as delicious. Coffee? The best I had in Inverness! They're great about substituting and vegan options, too. Not only is it good, but the staff was so welcoming, cheerful, and chatty-- you can tell they are dedicated to their regulars as well as those just passing through. For showmanship, price, and atmosphere, go no further than Perk!

The Haggis Box

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
29/08/2020: Check his facebook to see where to find him next. We were lucky this weekend Haggis in a Box was at the Grassmarket! If you are hungry - buy one each. Sooooo tasty! Mustard sauce is yum. Definitely recommend, for £6 a box you are getting a tasty bargain here.
09/07/2020: Great food and nice people. First time in 112 days that I have had a meal I haven't had to cook myself, and it was delicious

Perth City Centre, Perth & Kinross
27/09/2020: Went to Kisa in Auchterarder. Had lasagne which was ok. Pasta a bit overcooked but ok. Wife had burger. Looked raw in the middle so sent back. Came back still looked raw in the middle. Lady blamed marinade?? Hard to understand that one. She seamed a bit evasive when I asked how it had been cooked. Said it had been under grill but I suspect microwave may have been involved? Very disappointing with no offer of a discount to compensate. Poor customer care. Also wife noticed dirty carpet and poor hygiene standards. Also member of staff not adhering to distancing rules.
26/09/2020: Food, drinks, service, ambiance, social distancing all first class. First visit was on Saturday 19th September and returned today (Saturday 26th September) special shout out to Louse, fab personality and made you feel welcome. First class service and wasn’t rushed. Will see you again on Saturday 3rd October)Thanks The Murdochs

Oban Fish and Chip Shop

Oban North and Lorn, Argyll & Bute, 20-30£
08/09/2020: Great food and wonderful choice of local fish; it was a nice touch to be able to see where the fish had been caught on the map on the wall of the fish and chip shop. Good chips, not too greasy or soggy and bonus points because we survived eating on the seafront with no interference from seagulls!
07/09/2020: Great service and adhering well to Covid restrictions. Not the cheapest chippie i have been to but lovely and fresh and superb portions... didn't get much of my husbands "sharing" fish supper though which looked like Moby dick had surfed in on his chips!

La Potiniere

North Berwick Coastal, East Lothian, 60-100£
27/07/2020: Throughout the Covid lockdown, Keith and Mary have provided food for both the local community and especially for those shielded and vulnerable - how wonderful is that?Back on holiday in Gullane at long last, it is great news to know they’re re-opening again for lunches starting Sunday 2 August complying with social distancing regulations. We go home before that, but enjoyed a superb lunch provided by the restaurant. If you haven’t been before, you’re in for a treat. The food is just exemplary!
11/06/2020: I’m just a regular person who loves their food and I love going to La Potiniere, it’s such a treat to enjoy a dining experience where everything is consistently done right. So to occasionally appreciate their amazing midweek and Sunday menus during the lockdown has been really great. Mary and Keith have always been community spirited and helpful - just makes La Pot even more special.

Castle Stalker View Cafe

31/08/2020: Yummy apple pie and coffee. We stopped off unexpectedly and ended up having the best lunch - all fresh and home made and with a great view.
31/08/2020: We stopped off here for breakfast and what a good decision that was. I had the full breakfast which included haggis and black pudding along with the usual sausage, eggs, bacon and beans and it was really delicious. Great service, good social distancing maintained and clean tables all contributed to a great eating out experience.Well done and thankyou for a great breakfast.

Poppies Garden Centre & Tea Room

Oban North and Lorn, Argyll & Bute, <20£
05/09/2020: Met here for a family get together. Service was excellent in very nice surroundings. Food was good but no beans with an all day breakfast!!! Unfortunately the cakes looked better than they tasted ( carrot cake very dry ) . All in all good value for money and wouldn’t hesitate to go back .
04/09/2020: Excellent breakfast stopped here last week on our way home from weekend away in Oban couldn’t fault a thing

23/08/2020: Great food and service , a hidden gem stayed next door so this was handy , we will return , social distancing was adhered to and a good time was had
23/08/2020: We visited here tonight on a trip to Edinburgh and it was one of the best restaurants that my husband and I have been too. Lovely decor, well socially distanced and a wonderful atmosphere. Our server, Armela, was really lovely; so friendly and attentive, plus she made me the most gorgeous French martini. Thank you Armela for making our visit so special! We have the most delicious Bresaola and scallops to start, Amazing fall-apart lamb and delightful bavette steak for main. This was followed by a really yummy mango creme brulee and the most exquisite Tonka Bean Pannacotta. My husband is a real foodie, especially so with desserts; he said the Tonka Bean Pannacotta was the best dessert he has ever had! Even topping those we've experienced abroad! I would 100% recommend this place to everyone; a really brilliant hidden gem, you must go here!

Castle, Stirling
18/08/2020: Plenty of places to eat in Stirling but this one looks welcoming. Took a while for the food to come as they had to go out for bacon. £8.50 for a breakfast but no drink included.
10/08/2020: A lovely wee place situated halfway up Friar Street it is very dog friendly and there’s a couple of tables outside but you can take your pet inside Staff are friendly and can’t do enough if you just want to chill for a wee bit this place is cool we only had drinks but the food looked Amazing 10/10
