We three friends had an excellent lunch in La Potinere. There is a choice of two items for each course two having one of the starters & I had the other. There was a similar choice by my friends for the main course of chicken en croute while I had baked salmon. One of my friends treated us to a very fine bottle of Montrachet which we relished. The cooking & service were of high quality . Would we go back ? Indeed we would.

We have been following the fortunes of this restaurant for almost 50 years as we used to live in Dirleton, the next village along. 50 years ago it was excellent, almost impossible to get a booking. Nowadays we live away but each time we come back to East Lothian we book La Potiniere. Of course different owners yet still excellent. We feel very lucky that we get to experience the dedication to and the amazing quality of food. We ate there last week and as always Keith was so attentive. Each course was a delight. Not hurried just the right amount of time between courses. Yes, if you want a quick meal this is not the place for you. Tonight’s meal was so delicious, thank you La Potiniere!

We went to La Potiniere last night to celebrate my husband's birthday. Service was incredibly slow, we arrived at 7 and had our amuse bouche an hour later (soup was lovely - pumpkin seed bread was bitter). Starters eventually came and the courgette and feta tart was actually a pastry disc with veg etc on. Fine but not fine dining. Main courses were tasty, except the fish was well overcooked. We left at that point so can't comment on dessert. This is not a friendly, relaxed dining experience, it feels formal and dated and I'm sorry, the food is mediocre.

We have been wanting to dine here for some time and we were lucky to get booked in. It was worth our patience. We had twice baked cheese soufflé which was light and very tasty, halibut with langoustine, perfectly cooked with a tarragon sauce, which was delicious and well seasoned. To finish we had the baked Alaska with home grown berries, which was lovely. I especially enjoyed the fact there were a number of good alcohol free drinks. The restaurant is small with lovely decor. I would definitely recommend this place and if we are in the area we will return. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Food, service, atmosphere and overall experience - faultless as always. An exquisite Christmas menu. This was our first visit to the restaurant and it certainly won’t be our last. We were very fortunate to get in for lunch on Friday at short notice-usually you have to book weeks in advance. The room is small but the tables are set apart at a reasonable distance. The settings are very nice with beautiful, crisp, white napiery and tablecloth and a delicate, tiny flower on the table. Our amuse bouche was a superbly seasoned Thai coconut soup which I would have been delighted to have had as a starter. The starters though were both superb and even better than the soup. Both my wife and I had duck as a main course and it was succulent and very tasty, and it looked nice on the plate too which was a bonus. Finally we came to the dessert which was probably the highlight of the meal. Mine was a blackcurrant pane cotta with baked apple rings and apple yoghurt ice cream-simply divine. The coffee and petit fours afterwards-all part of the meal, was lovely and rounded off what was a very memorable occasion. We did not partake of wine but the wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and suggest you book well in advance! It is well worth the planning.

La Potiniére may be small but it has a very big personality. Forget the young pretenders and celebrity chefs - this is where the real magic happens. Keith Marley and Mary Runciman have created a unique and beautiful restaurant, serving wonderful food. Everything here is thoughtfully planned and practised to perfection, attention to detail is second to none, and the result is an exquisite dining experience that brings a host of loyal customers back again and again. A special place created by special people.

First time at La Potiniere for a Sunday afternoon lunch - cannot fault it. Beautiful surroundings, fabulous food, perfectly seasoned and simply delicious. From the amuse-bouche which was divine to the beautiful homemade bread, the stunning twice baked cheese and curried cauliflower soufflé starter then the delectable salmon risotto with perfectly cooked salmon fillet and a pear pudding perfection to finish. It’s not Sunday lunch really, it’s a dining experience that was worth every penny finished off with a pot of coffee and tea with petit fours. A complete success and not overly pretentious food like some of the so called upmarket Edinburgh eateries that are all foams and obscure ingredients. This is good quality ingredients cooked perfectly. Keith at front of house never stops but quietly goes about making sure your every need is met before you even ask. Just a wonderful place to go and we will be back. Thank you for making our Christmas treat a wonderful success. La Potiniere is the bomb.

I ate here a few times over half a lifetime ago and although different to the previous incarnation, we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience. Solid food - monkfish and lamb rack both excellent, lovely tarts, tasty desserts and good old fashioned service from Keith, washed down with a couple of cracking bottles of Palliser Pinot Noir. Quaint and unique, it was lovely to see an owner operator at work who cares about his customers far more so than the operator across the road, delivering a far better product and meeting expectations!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed it!!! , Thoroughly enjoyed it!!!

Had high hopes of an enjoyable gourmet evening , considering the number of excellent reviews ,but left disappointed. As described succinctly by Peter E (January 2022, we found the welcome somewhat lukewarm and the place lacked atmosphere. Little engagement from the maitre d,who I think was one of the owners.Expected service to be slow but waiting 45 minutes for bread at the start seemed excessive. Overall the food was of a high standard except for my main course of steamed sole which was rather mushy and lacked flavour . Noticing a sizeable piece left on my plate I was asked if I hadn’t enjoyed it. I said it wasn’t to my taste and no further enquiry for more detail was made then or at the end of the meal. Cheese soufflé starter and sweet both enjoyed and well presented .Wine prices reasonable.

We had to wait outside until just before 12.30 when they open for lunch. Having been sat at the wrong table first we were soon seated and our friends arrived. The menu gave a good range of freshly prepared and cooked food and they had been careful to check that none of our party had allergies or intolerances when we booked. The food was delicious and we noticed that the wine was a little cheaper than the Bonnie Badger across the road. We enjoyed our meal and managed to hear each other despite a large party who were quite noisy for what is a small space. We will certainly return but booking is essential because it is quite small.

On a return visit for the set lunch menu in this well established and intimate dining room, the cooking continues to reflect the best of local ingredients in seasonal dishes served in a stylish and recently refurbished setting. There is a choice of 2 dishes for each of the 3 courses at lunch for £25 set off by a very reasonable price for a glass of wine. The sole main was excellent. The wife and husband team welcome guests almost as if to a lunch/dinner party in their own home. I think the label 'fine dining' can put people off. This was great food, perfectly cooked. There is no dress code and the night we were in most people wore casual clothes, though I did think the gentleman in knee-length shorts was a bit too casual!! But it's that kind of place. We used to live nearby and visited many times in the old days. It's had a refurb and facelift and looks gorgeous (and I'm extremely glad the old elaborate flower arrangements have gone as they used to make me sneeze) but the food is still of the highest standard. Small menu with two choices for each course, but even so, it was difficult to decide. Beautifully done 'tomato and cheese' first course - a deep flavoured tomato jelly with parmesan foam served with tiny tomatoes tossed in cashew pesto - utterly delicious. The rest of the meal was likewise excellent. The wine list is very good value. We were surprised it wasn't full on a Wednesday night in Festival season, but you should reserve as there's only 20 or so places. Very well worth a visit.

As my normal Gullane restaurant has stopped doing lunch , we gave this a try and what a wonderful experience it turned out. More like dining in a friend's house than a restaurant. We were greeted by the owner & chef who talked us through the menu. Started with the 'ROQUEFORT' Blue cheese muse with pear slices, followed by the poached & seared chicken and finished with the chocolate souffle with raspberry & cherry couli which was a delight. Warm home made sultana & fennel bread was served at the beginning of the meal which was amazing. What I really enjoyed was the great selection of alcohol free wines and beers [we had a few] that they serve here that actually taste like wine and beer, because in Scotland you can no longer have alcohol and drive because of the now virtual Zero tolerance to drinking & driving. Overall a very pleasant afternoon that we hope to repeat soon, but before we left we were warned that they will be closed from 1st January till March 2019 .

Cleanliness and presentation was first rate and the food quite exceptional - beautifully prepared, all three courses tasted fabulous and all four of us said so (and we can be fussy!) - and the icing on the cake (pardon the pun)? - well to be honest we couldn't believe the value for money when the bill arrived. And £27 for 3 courses is an absolute steal! We opted for coffee and home made tablet instead of desert- the toasted marzipan and rose and pistachio dark chocolate was sublime! Superb cooking and the finest local ingredients made for a fantastic birthday celebration. I'm hoping I don't have to wait till my next birthday to come back! Thank you!

We had lunch today (Tuesday 28th August) and it was excellent. I ate from the fixed menu, sea bream with a creamy mash, followed by the best Tiramisu I’ve ever had (roughly 15€ for 2 courses). My wife had the Caesar Salad which she said she was great. The children ate really well, fresh tagliatelle pasta with ham. All the food looked really good. The restaurant was busy but had a relaxed atmosphere. You could easily spend the afternoon here people watching. Service was swift, well done to La Potiniere!

Restaurants change, and in 12 month can loose the edge they once had . not so "La Potinierre". We visit annually when visiting Edinburgh for the Festival et al. Never have we been disappointed, Fine food, presented so perfectly by Mary and Keith and always a delight to partake of. If only there was an area to relax afterwards it would be ..., but as it is , it takes an awful lot of beating . Give it a try you will not be sorry but rather, delighted that you have experienced the duo's very fine skills.

Having overnighted at Greywalls overlooking the Muirfield golf course, we chose La Potiniere to close off a good trip before returning to Glasgow. Housed in what looks like a residential building with its own compound, the restaurant exudes charm and a certain French chic,

This restaurant lived up to its reputation. Wonderful intimate dining ambiance, excellent cuisine. Certainly not for a group of rowdy golfers. But perfect for a lovely dinner out with friends and family!

Hubby and I have eaten at Le Potiniere in Gullane many times. We're usually lunch fans, as the 50 mile round trip is lovely in the day-time. But this was a special occasion, with local friends, so we opted for dinner for a wee change. We're SO glad we did!

This is a small and very tasteful restaurant, more fine dining than bistro, run by two wonderful chefs who, over many years have maintained an absolutely superb standard of cuisine. Its a gem within the beautiful village of Gullane, that this week hosts the Scottish Open Golf Championship. This event brings hundreds of visitors to Gullane, but travel routes and parking restrictions mean that folks are not encouraged to stop and take in the offerings from the Main Street and its local businesses - a shame when such quality of both retail shops and eateries exist, and many have gone to significant effort to show visitors the best of Gullane.

Eight of us went to this cosy restaurant. It is small but nicely presented. Food could not be faulted. Service very attentive but in no way intrusive. Nice touches between courses. Most enjoyable. This place is a gem.

What an amazing meal we had at La Potiniere this week. The food was delicious the wine fantastic and the service warm and friendly. The chef made me my own gluten free bread which was amazing. Each course was better than the last and I loved the wee extra courses slotted in between. Wonderful.

Booked by some friends for lunch. Been here before and it's the same (in a good way!) Like sitting in someone's front room. One sitting for lunch and although the menu is limited to a choice of two starters, two main and two desserts the offer is lovely with friendly polite service from the young girl who served us

A truly delightful experience. We were four people celebrating my daughter’s birthday. When we made the booking we explained that we would have a vegetarian in the group and that the only meat my daughter eats is chicken.

Last night myself and my husband came here for dinner and it was such a treat! My beetroot mousse and goats cheese tartlet was delicate and scrumptious, my main course of beef was so tender and perfectly balanced and I could not resist the chocolate and pear desert followed by coffee and petit four.

Amazing spot next to a wonderful beach! Me and my 7 year old came down for a wee walk around and then realised how lovely the beach was and how nice the day was so went back and got my wife and 2 year old. Had a flat white the first time I was there and served by a very friendly lady had a little chat about her menu. Tacos aren’t something you can find anywhere in Dunbar so when I returned later my wife we got the beef tacos and a few tins of juice and I have to say there where absolutely lovely! The kind lady (owner I think) also brought them down onto the beach for us while I was setting up with our young ones! 100% will be back again and telling people about you guys! Keep up the great work!
