Yorkshire Fisheries

Talbot, Blackpool, <20£
13/09/2020: We were recommended this place , struggled to find it but was worth the long walk staff very friendly food was superb I had the haddock hubby the cod , would most certainly recommend
13/09/2020: We were recommended this fish and chip restaurant by our accommodation we were staying in, what a lovely fish and chip shop. We were welcomed straight away and shown what all the new measures were (Covid 19), they have lots of things in place for this so instantly made us feel safe and we knew it was clean, the waitresses were so lovely and so kind and caring making sure we were taken care off, we didn’t just feel like a number for their restaurant. The food was amazing! My family had fish and chips and said it was the best fish and chips they had ever had, I myself had their home made pies....WOW! Just amazing, this place has not only got amazing food but the prices were so good, the manager/owner of this place was cooking, waitressing and she made sure she went around to each table and made sure everyone was enjoying their food! What amazing service! I would highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to have good fish and chips when they are away in Blackpool

The Whole Hog

Lyme Regis, West Dorset
01/09/2020: If you like proper coffee (and I mean proper), look no further. Best coffee in Lyme Regis by a distance and I tried a few. Exquisite doughnuts, lovely jerk chicken and what looks like wonderful hog roast. Everything done authentically, with soul and locally sourced. All served up by a lovely, charming local family. And if the lad with the baseball cap the wrong way round is making the coffee, you’re in for an absolute treat. Gem of a place.
28/08/2020: Amazing sandwiches, doughnuts and coffee. Friendly staff, couldn’t ask for more!! Will definitely return next time we’re in Lyme Regis.

The Hare Inn at Scawton

Helmsley, Ryedale
07/09/2020: We had intended to visit The Hare again in May, for obvious reasons we didn't get there. Liz contacted us as soon as they reopened and we booked a room. I'm reluctantly writing this, I don't want everyone else to find this gem and book the rooms. Paul's food is stunning, the wines chosen by Liz wonderful and the setting is relaxed with the meal nicely paced. Our room was beautifully rustic and the bed comfy. So, just to be clear, it's horrible and you don't want to go there.
15/08/2020: The food is amazing, the setting & service perfect. Liz is a fabulous host, presents the food with passion & knowledge. Chef Paul’s food is stunning, every course just perfect. The beautifully & tastefully renovated rooms are a great addition. Already planning our next visit.

Cellar

East Neuk and Land Ward, Fife
02/09/2020: We booked for lunch which was just outstanding. Service was spot on and every course was a delight. Hard to choose a favourite but I particularly enjoyed the ox tongue first course and the perfectly balanced sweet - raspberries, a deeply chocolatey sorbet, feather light meadowsweet mousse, all encased in a crisp meringue shell. Just wonderful. Can’t wait for our next visit.
28/08/2020: My wife and I went along to use a voucher which our daughter and husband had given us for Christmas. It was for a tasting menu lunch with wines and we were delighted with it. Every course was excellent and each wine perfect for the course concerned. If I had to choose a favourite course, it would be the monk fish with smokie mousse. We were well cared for with regard to Covid 19 and felt safe with the precautions taken. The service was sufficiently attentive without being intrusive and very pleasant start to finish. The only problem was that it was a little chilly in the restaurant but that did not detract from our enjoyment. We've let the daughter know she can do that again and we look forward to our next visit.

Annie's Tea Rooms

Victoria, Sefton
17/08/2020: We spent 14th of August in the afternoon here for my birthday treat with friends, it was really clean and the food was delicious and the cakes are to die for, Jay and grace were fabulous and kept us topped up with drinks and smiles, nothing was too much for them thanks for a lovely afternoon
13/08/2020: Booked a table for lunch prior to playing golf at West Lancs. There was lots of variety, reasonably priced, and even if it wasn’t on the menu they were happy to customise an order. The food was delicious and even the chicken was home cooked. I had a chicken and bacon salad which was fab. The cakes looked amazing, but we managed to resist.Clare looked after us but all the staff were lovely and helpful and made us very welcome, The tea rooms were nicely decorated and clean.Very enjoyable and worth a visit.

Madhatters

Cossall and Kimberley, Broxtowe
05/08/2020: Had a couple of afternoon teas delivered during lockdown but never been into the tearoom before. Tuesday was my first visit. On arrival all measures are taken to ensure staff and customers safety, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea was truly delightful! Inside was like visiting the rabbit hole. We were checked upon and offered more tea and coffee on regular basis and were even given bags To take our left overs in. Very relaxed atmosphere, we were not rushed or hurried along. Will be visiting again.
18/07/2020: Have been here a few times, but this was my first visit since the covid19 pandemic. As usual the staff are friendly and the restaurant is set out within government guidelines. Felt a safe and homely atmosphere. I absolutely love it here.

Tapenades

Liskeard South and Dobwalls, Cornwall,Isles of Scilly, >100£
02/09/2020: We were staying at Holiday Property Bond Duloe Manor. We didn’t want to cook, or drive, so we asked for recommendations from the property manager, Michelle. Tapenades was the top one. We were not disappointed. We should say that we are inexperienced home delivery diners, so we rang the day before to place our order. This was at the restaurant’s busiest time, so the person we spoke to promised to ring us back later. This he did, so we placed our order, which arrived at Duloe Manor at exactly the time we requested, preceded by a phone call from Tapenades to say dinner was en route. The food was packed in thermal packaging, all recyclable, so was piping hot as we placed it on the plates. A delicious meal. Great vegetarian choice - the risotto and pancake are highly recommended.Highly recommended, with thanks to everyone at Tapenades.
31/08/2020: Dinner for four was delicious. Presentation is excellent, food is amazing - risotto, beef wellington, Salmon, moules, cheesecake, bread and butter pudding .. all fabulous! So lovely to have a three course dinner delivered to the door at the time booked.Homemade breads are so good and flavoured butters great too. We’ll see you again, it is almost as good as going to the restaurant! We even dressed for dinner!

07/08/2020: Ordered some pizzas and deserts for takeaway. The food was ready at the exact time I ordered for and the pizzas were piping hot and delicious. The meringue was the best I’ve ever tasted!

Gabbys Chippy

Bridlington Central and Old Town, East Riding of Yorkshire, <20£
06/09/2020: came here as we only like fish and chips cooked in oil rather than dripping. So glad we did! We got fish and chips 6 times (2 adults and 4 children) and was less than £30! I even checked that they'd charged us right! The chips are crinkle cut (we asked about them and were assured that they have a crinkle cut chipper and cut them themselves...not frozen chips!)The fish was cooked to perfection and we ate every bit! Absolutely the best fish and chips we have ever eaten! I can't believe than any of the low rated reviewers even ate here as there was absolutely nothing I could find fault with! The staff were friendly and chatty, the shop was clean and the food was fresh and delicious. Definitely our go to chippy from now on!
01/08/2020: As a family we’re a mixture of veggie, Vegan and omni. So Gabbys was the best option in Brid. We had veggie burgers, battered sausage, falafel balls & chips (All from the vegan menu) and a few portions of fish and chips. All the vegan stuff was awesome and the omni’s amongst us couldn’t stop commenting on the quality of the fish. Definitely going back next time we’re in the area.

The Bull at The Auberge

Palgrave, Mid Suffolk, 20-30£
05/09/2020: Traveled 120 mile round trip for celebration lunch as it read so well. but average and expensive food left us disappointed.Nice dining room if we had been in it, but offered a cramped table behind the bar. More convenient for staff I think. He did knock off the cost of the very strange and inedible tiramisu, but £5.20 for a bottle of non alcoholic beer, might put the essential driver off. And £25 for some Hake & Mussels with no veg?PS I rarely write revues but felt there needed a bit of balance.
31/08/2020: We were lucky enough to get in at the last minute after a cancellation, and we had a wonderful stay at the Auberge in Yaxley, near Eye in Suffolk. We arrived early and used as a base for a 50 mile bike ride before returning to beautifully appointed rooms with excellent modern bathrooms, and the most comfortable bed....just what we needed.Dinner in the atmospheric dining room with John senior as the head of house, full of charisma and his son, also John, a wonderfully attentive host and server. The package we had was dinner bed & breakfast and it was marvellous. Between the 5 of us we experienced most of the choices available and they were all excellent, without exception.Breakfast was also a really enjoyable experience in which we selected what we wanted the night before and hey presto it was there for us when we arrived, all freshly cooked and piping hot!Top tip - don’t miss out on John’s porridge it set us up for another day of cycling in the blustery Suffolk conditions...We will certainly return.

Thyme Square Cafe

East Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
24/08/2020: Friendly welcome, good breakfast at a reasonable price. Asked for a few alterations to my meal, no issues at all. Would definitely go back.
28/07/2020: Sunday breakfast socially distanced on a very quiet day.Nice breakfast options at fair prices with a few specials too. Produce was all good quality and nicely cooked and owner/staff were friendly. Fascinated by scotch pie breakfast but resisted!!! No complaints at all. Good luck getting the business back in shape.
