Penceunant Isaf Tea Rooms

Llanberis, Gwynedd
19/08/2018: After having a long hard climb up the PYG track shrouded in fog and drizzle we decided to descend down the Llanberis Path and worry about how to get back to the car later....
19/08/2018: We called into Penceunant Isaf after a very wet clim down Snowdon , we were greated by Steffan, who was an absolute gem of a host, full of fun and a mine of information. The welsh cake he gave to us was delicious. We had only planned to stay for a quick warm up and a drink but were so comfortable we settled in for a couple of hours. Its a must do when visiting Snowdonia

The Brit Pub

Bryn and Cwmavon, Neath Port Talbot, 20-30£
27/08/2018: Group of 14 booked for meals, all came piping hot not a single issue with any of the meals, good atmosphere polite friendly staff very helpful
26/08/2018: Visited this pub today while traveling to Afan forest, a gorgeously decorated pub with such a quirky vibe.

On the Hill

Ruthin, Denbighshire
18/08/2018: We come here as a treat as the food isn't your everyday menu, where they have some great combinations and choices. We've not been for over a year and all was great this time too. Wonderful food, service and experience. Narrow stairs to 1st floor and toilets on 2nd floor (I think there are accessible toilets on ground floor but do check). We ate around 7pm on a Thursday night and it did get busier with a large party in the top room. The hummus and crisps as a nibble (free) were lovely and not too heavy. We chose some light nibbles to share as our starters (great choices). This is a really good idea as I always have a starter but then struggle to eat all my main. I had the Asian chicken trio and not what I'd normally go for but wow, it was delicious and I ate every bit of it. The flavours were wonderful together. Drinks are reasonably priced and the no-alcohol cocktail was a nice touch (I didn't try as saw after I'd already ordered).
17/08/2018: A really good choice of food - one of those rare places with so many good choices on the menu. The fish options were particularly good. Parking is tricky, but well worth a visit.

Blas at Fronlas

Newport, Pembrokeshire, 20-30£
15/08/2018: My friend and I were walking the coast path, and got caught in the rain in goodwick and there was no where to stay in the area except for this place in Newport. We arrived and the owner was very welcoming and showed us up to our room. The beds were very comfy (especially after having slept in a tent for the past few days) and the shared bathroom was clean and wonderful. The B&B; is situated just opposite a spar and up the road from a pharmacy. Newport is also just a wonderful little town! Breakfast was included in our stay and we were very pleased with our choices, eggs on toast with salmon and a full breakfast plus coffee. The place was obviously popular with locals and travellers alike. I will definitely visit again one day!!
09/08/2018: Excellent food served in the rear sunny garden. Really friendly staff and very fast service.... always helpful when you have young children with you. Many thanks

The Brewery Inn Cosheston

Lamphey, Pembrokeshire
16/08/2018: Had been recommended the Brewery Inn by friends who have recently moved to the area. Reading the reviews and it sounded too good to be true but we booked in for Sunday lunch anyway
11/08/2018: We booked up three days ahead and were lucky to get in. Such is the quality of the fare on offer, the Brewery Inn has a real reputation for great food with locals, and now with Trip Advisor, all visitors! The beer was an excellent local brew and the grey mullet outstanding. Check out the specials board- they really are worth exploring. The service was unobtrusive, polite and efficient and the food was brilliant- really can’t fault anything

Wavecrest Cafe

Pembroke: St. Mary North, Pembrokeshire
15/08/2018: A lovely cafe next to the beach. We had the excellent crab salad and a selection of the lovely homemade cakes. No nuts used on site, which helps when you're travelling with people with allergies. Highly recommended.
13/08/2018: We were staying locally and had driven to west angle on a whim to see if the beach was any good, it was! but more importantly this lovely little cafe was nestled right on the edge of the beach. The children's menu was good value and there was more than enough choice to keep our children happy, they had good sized jackets with a mound of tuna mayo / cheese, whilst #3 child had a tuna sandwich which had so much filling it oozed out of the bread! We both fancied he seafood chowder alas they only had 1 portion left which I bagged whilst my husband settled for the leek and cheese tart (no hardship as everything on the specials menu sounded fab) The portion sizes were huge. My jug of chowder arrived with plenty of crusty bread for dunking and was absolutely divine. The cakes looked awesome but we were too full to indulge so will def be back again to sample them. If you are in the area make sure you visit this fab cafe!

Wavecrest Cafe

Llanfaethlu, Isle of Anglesey, >100£
17/08/2018: 6 of us came for lunch on a wet Sunday. Really friendly welcome (makes all the difference). Good choice of options although not that much for vegans. 2 of the 6 of us had dairy allergy and they struggled a bit. To be fair they tried to accommodate and were super helpful, just not many standard options to cater for vegans or dairy intolerant people. The scones were AMAZING. I had gammon main and that was great. The Prawns Marie were disappointing, looked a big dish but it was mainly salad and pasta, hardly any prawn. Would I come back, yes definitely. Just need to pick the right thing. Lovely setting too. Can't quite give it a 5* but a good 4*
16/08/2018: Visited today was welcoming by all staff scones were amazing bought a bottle of the sauce which is lush, beautiful setting would definitely recommend. Will be back....

The Butchers Arms

Llanddarog, Carmarthenshire
25/08/2018: Had a meal here with friends last night and will definitely be visiting again. This is now our new favourite place to eat. Lots of menu choices.
25/08/2018: En route to St Davids and need lunch, stopped here by chance. What a wonderful surprise!

Gwesty Cymru

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
07/08/2018: The restaurant is very small and generally noisey. The food is excellent but over priced as is the wine list. Lovely service.
06/08/2018: My sister and I had a delicious meal here for one of our special occasion nights out during a week long trip around Wales. My sister really loves veggies and the chef was so accommodating in meeting her requests for lots of veggies with her fish. The staff went above and beyond to may our visit special. The only negative aspect to the evening was the sound inside. I think it's likely due to the shape of the room, but it was extremely loud despite only a few other people inside. They were laughing and having a good time, which I can't fault them for, but I don't think they realized how loud they were. It was difficult for my sister and I to have a conversation. I think in the future I would sit outside if possible.

The Crown

Mardy, Monmouthshire
29/08/2018: I have been in this pub for food a couple of times. Food is good and reasonably priced. Very positive point about this place is that the menu is very different from what you find in every other pubs in the area. Definitely recommended .
25/08/2018: We chose this place after reading reviews on trip advisor. Away from home, we were wanting a place to eat where our dog would be welcome. She was and was given doggie treats. Our food was lovely and homemade. Having a starter, main course and a sweet, it was all delicious and very well presented. The guest beer was good too. This is a lovely little pub and well worth a visit. 5 stars from me.

The Looking Glass Ice Cream Parlour

Gogarth, Conwy
18/08/2018: Very nice indeed! Great selection of flavours and all home made! Tables in and out, serves hot drinks too.
17/08/2018: Stumbled across the ice cream parlour while staying in Llandudno the ice cream was amazing will visit here again when I’m next visiting .

The Berwyn Restaurant

Llandrillo, Denbighshire, 20-30£
03/09/2018: Our second visit to The Berwyn and we will definitely be back again. We visited as a party of 10 after a day out nearby, when I rang to book they kindly offered to open half an hour earlier as we were a distance from where we were staying and had children in our party. A warm welcome and explanation of the food and drinks menus when we arrived. The food was homemade, delicious and plentiful. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal and commented on the quality and flavour. In particular the dauphinois potatoes which are the best I’ve tasted. Fantastic selection of desserts, again all homemade and delicious. My husband had welsh mustard with his steak which we asked the name of but forgot to look at on the way out, so Debbie sent me a picture of it later on. All in all a fabulous meal with great service
30/08/2018: Thank you to Debbie and Ivor for their fantastic hospitality. Fantastic home cooked food. Good choice for all ages, very friendly and well priced with good portion sizes. We will definitely be back and if you are in the area you should pay them a visit too. Open Thursday evenings to Sunday lunchtimes only, but don’t let this put you off.

Y Polyn

Llanddarog, Carmarthenshire, 30-45£
27/08/2018: I have been to Y Polyn a few times before as used to live local to the area.
27/08/2018: Having been brought up in the area and never eaten here, I decided to take my family for a meal and put the reputation of Y Polyn to the test. The result was pleasing and we all loved the quality of food. The service was good and the steaks, fish and belly pork main courses were excellent . We will be back . Well done Y Polyn

The Three Horseshoes Inn

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys, <20£
04/09/2018: Booked a table for two at 6.45pm on a Friday evening and made the cardinal mistake of arriving 25 Minuites early. We were assertively told by the female bar attendant (owner) that we were too early and that we would not be offered the menu until our allotted time. I was tempted to ask the lady if she would like us to leave and return at a time that best suited her! What had happened to good old fashioned Welsh hospitality and the common courtesy of welcoming you and asking how we can help you! This was non existent at this place.
03/09/2018: Booked our table weeks ago for Sunday lunch at 2.30pm. At the time of booking we also gave our food orders. We were sat by our tables by 2.30pm but food never arrived until 3.55pm. Some of our guests were told after they were seated that they had run out of some starters despite these being ordered some weeks ago. After complaining all I was told was ‘it’s all cooked fresh hence the delay’.

Y Sgwar

Porthmadog-Tremadog, Gwynedd
18/08/2018: Always make it our mission every time we come to the caravan to have sunday lunch here , where it’s rain or shine it’s a must ....
18/08/2018: We arrived just before the end of service on Sunday night with 2 tired children. We got a lovely warm welcome and great food. The sharing starter was delicious and the steak very good (too good as the kids kept stealing it!). My dairy free little girl even got a vegan chocolate tart for pudding a rare treat! Next time we are in North Wales for an adventure we will be back.
