We were warmly welcomed and seated in a cosy and atmospheric dining room. The staff were very attentive and the food was fabulous one of the best meals I’ve had dining out in a long time. From the delicious pulled beef croquet, fish supper to the tasty treacle tart every course was sublime and beautifully presented. Very relaxed too did not feel rushed in any way. We went on a Wednesday evening and it was full so book to avoid disappointment!

Just returned from an absolutely magnificent meal at this lovely pub. I started with the brisket croquette - soft, rich and perfectly seasoned with a deeply flavorful sauce. I then followed with the monkfish and king prawn curry, which was absolutely sublime. The fish was chunky, soft and served with a spicy, but rich and fragrant sauce with wonderful accompaniments and light, fluffy rice. Perfect. I don’t often do pudding, but succumbed to the treacle tart which was rich but not sickly, but still sticky and chewy and offset perfectly by the fresh vanilla sorbet served with it. An absolutely perfect meal. This pub should be exceptionally proud of what it’s turning out of its kitchen. Genuinely cannot recommend this pub strongly enough. Do not miss this gorgeous gem if you’re in the area.

An absolute gem of a place, service was faultless, food was even better. i had the fish and chips and my partner had the toad in the hole.. my fish was lovely and crispy just how i like it and my partners toad in the hole looked and tasted lovely (to the point i was jealous i hadn't ordered this myself) lovely quiet location with a decent size beer garden. Prices are pretty good too compared to some local places these days. We will definitely will be be back!

Filled in an online booking form and received an acknowledgment which warned that it was not a confirmation. This was for a week in advance. No confirmation arrived. I tried to ring five times but nobody answered the phone, despite my letting it ring. Still no confirmation five days later. Disappointing.

My husband had steak and ale pie. I had faggot with black pudding apple sauce mash potatoes and fresh buttered cabbage, carrots and peas. Both of us relished the food, it was fantastic and one of the best meals we had consumed out for a very long time. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We will be back.

Family of four. We popped in on the way home from FOD on the off chance we could be seated and eat. Staff were very accommodating and found us a table. 4 roast beer dinners that were exceptionally good. The cask ales were also top notch. Staff were especially welcoming and friendly. This is a pub we visited on the off chance but will definitely be coming back and bringing friends. Diolch

Great food and friendly service. We booked to eat here whilst visiting the area based on the reviews and were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival. Didn’t have to wait long for our food. The pork belly was really tasty 😋 All in all and great place for dinner.

The pub itself was cosy inside and had a good sized beer garden. We had booked a table but weren't aware when booking that it was relatively near closing time. The service felt quite unfriendly and as a result of the time also quite rushed. The food was very nice so it was a shame as that did spoil the experience for us.

Honestly the nicest Sunday roast I can remember having. The staff are friendly and helpful, the dog was welcome by the fire and the portions were huge and tasty. We will be back again. A great find, I just googled dog friendly places in the area. Massively exceeded expectations.

This place is amazing! Quick search on google and this place popped up, rang first to make sure we could get a table and within 15 minutes we were sat In front of a toasty log burner with our menu’s Lots of Gluten free options (which was fab). Food was delicious and the service was great, very attentive cheerful waitress too! Will definitely be visiting again when next in the area.

OMG we have just had the most amazing Sunday roast ever!!! I can not recommend this place enough. Service was so friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was perfect with the fire. Food was delicious and plenty of it. If you’re in the area definitely go here. Wasn’t a problem for us but I don’t think they supply high chairs, but I did see a couple bring their own if you have little ones.

We booked here without knowing what it was like but because it was a convenient pub on our long walk around then forest. We were delighted! Incredible food, well kept ale and cider and very welcoming to our dog, who thoroughly enjoyed the fire!

Booked for Sunday lunch here having read reviews on TripAdvisor. Well worth the research. Really easy to find. Fully Covid-secure. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. I had my favourite lunch, roast beef and all the trimmings. The meat was so tender it melted in my mouth and plenty of it as well. Veggies were piping hot and really tasty. We asked for plain veg.(as my wife is lactose intolerant) which was fab. I finished with jam roly-poly and of course lashings of custard. Superb lunch, excellent service and quality surroundings

I am currently on a very strict low FODMAP diet, for medical reasons, which means I have to eliminate a lot of different foods from my diet, including onion, garlic and gluten to name a few. This has made eating out incredibly challenging and I have had some terrible experiences, to the point it has become a running joke within the family about how cursed I am and given me some form of fear about how bad my meal will be. However I was left feeling incredibly special and cannot falter the team at the The White Horse Inn. From the point of booking my reservation, to advising me on which dishes I could have, to the chef creating me my own delicious dish, the team were very understanding and could not have been more accommodating. It made my experience so enjoyable and restored my faith in being able to eat out, without the quality of my meal being affected, due to dietary requirements, which happens at so many other restaurants. Those who live a low FODMAP lifestyle tend to avoid eating out because it is just easier. But it is so comforting to know that a local restaurant is willing and exceeds expectation when it comes to catering for individuals.

Friends took me to The white Horse for a special birthday meal and this place didn't disappoint. It's a really lovely country pub with a bar on one side and a dining room on the other. Very nice ambience and friendly staff. We were all blown away by the great food. Top quality and at a very reasonable price. Staff were friendly and attentive. Very happy to meet the friendly pub dog. I always appreciate a dog friendly environment. I couldn't recommend this little gem in the forest more.

We were lucky enough to be stopping within walking distance of this pub and booked a table for the last night of our stay. The White Horse came highly recommended but it surpassed our expectations with the most amazing food, friendly service, reasonable prices and great ales. Will definitely be back for a future visit when we stop in the area again.

We were staying at Forest Holidays and saw the great reviews for The White Horse Inn. They were all well deserved as this is a fantastic restaurant. We both had the squid starter and for mains my husband had the fish and chips and I had the lamb special. We had the white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. It was all absolutely delicious. The wine and drinks were excellent too! All staff were very attentive and service was top notch. We had a drink in the beautiful garden afterwards. A wonderful evening! We will definitely return when back in the Forest of Dean again.

My family ate at the White Horse 3 times during a weeks holiday in Staunton, and the food each time was excellent. We were a large family group - 6 adults and 4 children under 8 - and we all enjoyed it.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner at the weekend with my family. Lovely beer garden, friendly staff and wonderful food. Great portion sizes of high quality and yummy pub food! Also fantastic veggie menu, the veggie lasagne was the best I have ever eaten. I will be returning.

We booked this pub whilst on holiday in The Forest of Dean. It had been four years since our last holiday to this area, but we remembered how good the food was so we were delighted to find that the pub was still being ran by the same people, we booked an evening meal in the garden with our dog as it was a very hot day. There Covid rules were excellent, and the pork loin with seasonable vegetables and spring onion and chive mash with a very tasty sauce were beautifully cooked. So glad we decided to return to this well run pub.

Had a wonderful meal this evening . Beautiful evening in the garden . Brilliant service and exemplary Covid 19 regs in place . It was the first meal out for my mum who had been shielding for 5 months so thank you . She really enjoyed it . We will be back soon !!

The White Horse Inn at Staunton has been massively supportive of the village during lockdown, delivering meals, shopping and providing support in general. (As seen on Countryfile ) The menu for the meals has changed regularly and they’ve all been delicious and of the quality we’ve come to expect! The vegetarian lasagne, curries, scampi and chips, made-on-the premises pizzas etc have brightened our days. We have been shielding and genuinely could not have coped without them. The pub has been redecorated and looks good. Currently open under Covid19 measures and you need to book a table in advance.

The salmon and prawn linguini yesterday was absolutely delicious and full of flavour. The addition of samphire and pea shoot garnish topped it off perfectly. Another superb meal at the White Horse! Warm, comfortable, welcoming to locals and visitors. For a mid week meal it was great to see the pub so busy - we met one couple who hadn’t visited for some 20 years who really enjoyed their meals too. Thank you John, Hayley and the team.

Lovely meal. I chose the dry aged rib eye steak and it was delicious. Cooked just to my liking and served with red onions and mushroom. Not quite sure how they were cooked but boy were they tasty.

For our first visit what a treat it was.We eat out quite often and this is definitely one of the best in this area.The friendly welcome was backed up by great food.My wife had the mussels and I had the mackerel,both could not be faulted,the menu was so varied compared to a lot of the usual boring pub food, will definitely be back.

Visited here while staying at Nature by Humble for a few days. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent, especially the steak pie that my husband chose from the specials board. Defiantly recommended!

Wow! Fantastic rib of beef roast. We were a little nervous traveling out today in the storm, but so pleased that we did. Warm, inviting atmosphere, cosy fire, lots of dogs, and not surprisingly busy given the quality of service and food. Definitely book for Sunday lunch. Very organised and attentive team. The warm chocolate brownie with a scoop of honeycomb ice-cream, to die for, but we shared as lunch portion large but so yummy. Thank you, a wonderful treat. Highly recommended.

Excellent meal at The White Horse last night! Haunch of venison with celeriac purée (spellcheck keeps insisting on "celestial" well, it was delicious!) confit carrots, creamy potatoes and gorgeous jus. Followed by Bakewell tart and ice cream. Everything prepared and cooked to perfection, portion size ideal, flavours superb. And a glass of . We are so fortunate to have this on our doorstep in Staunton

Had not been here for a few years and never before for Sunday Lunch, 5 of us and empty plates all round, The Beef and Lamb were melt in the mouth and the veggies were perfectly cooked and varied, as for the Gravy (Wow), we were greedy and all had starters and desserts something unheard for with our family but it really was that good.

This was our first visit after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor so decided to take the whole family - nine of us in total and we were all blown away by the first class hospitality and outstanding food and drink. The menu choice was superb and everyone chose an assortment of dishes which were well presented and cooked to perfection. Excellent quality at a very reasonable price. The chef was extremely accommodating as our niece and nephew have food allergies and nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend this restaurant and without doubt will be returning again very soon. Thank you once again for a most enjoyable experience.

We were only staying in Monmouth for one night but chose the White Lion based on tripadvisor reviews.

The White Horse seasonal specials menu was delicious last night. Our starters were 'roasted red onion and pear arancini, perl las cream and watercress' - totally yummy and just the right amount to get the tastebuds going and 'smoked haddock hash, lightly poached hens egg, chive butter sauce' in both cases the presentation was superb. For mains we had 'sirloin of beef, parmesan mash, buttered greens and Montepulciano jus' which got the double thumbs up and I had the 'pan seared fillet of salmon,smoked haddock brandade, buttered greens, chorizo sausage, smooth fish cream and dressed leaves'.I've quoted directly from the menu because every dish was thoughtfully composed and we enjoyed our meal very much. Whether you are planning a first visit to the White Horse, or like us you are local and regulars, I fully recommend - but do remember to book in advance at busy times.

Called last minute for Sunday lunch for 5 of us and they managed to squeeze us in at 2:15pm after previous customers had vacated the table.

Four of us had the steak and chips, we didn’t find the service that great from the lad, it was poor , the steak was nice , but the chips were awfull , it tasted like they had been cooked then left until needed then recooked , they tasted old , we thought 100 pounds for four pieces of steak , not even any veg was a lot very pricey and certainly not worth it.

Visited here last week with the family and the service and food were outstanding. I had the peppered steak pie and it was brilliant. Good choice of ale and cider and a great menu. If you are anywhere near please stop in and you won’t regret it

The White Horse seems unobtrusive from the outside (I have driven past it many times without thinking I might pop in). Staying locally with friends and their young family we visited on a whim and booked a table for 8 the following night which was pretty short notice give the size of group and restaurant. They put themselves out to accommodate us and on the night looked after us superbly. The beers was well kept and more importantly the food was delicious and just the right proportion. The lamb was fantastic. All 8 of us cleared our plates, got stuck into pud and left completely contented. Thank you to all the team at the White Horse.

A great local pub, that we booked for Sunday Lunch when staying in the area. Really friendly when we arrived, excellent value for Sunday lunch and a good selection of accompanying drinks. We’d definitely stop in again.

We both really enjoyed our lunch today, chosen from the chef’s specials board. I had the nachos with chilli beef and loads of cheese, which was so tasty and really filling and my husband had the pastrami style cured trout. That was extraordinarily flavoursome and unusual. Ideal as a starter or light lunch dish. See picture below. Of course the ordinary menu has a wide range of lovely offerings too. We do advise you phone ahead as tables get booked up especially at the weekend and holiday times.

I have visited the White Horse on quite a few occasions and the standard is consistently excellent! I'm a strong believer of you get what you pay for... the prices aren't cheap but it is well worth the money if you don't mind a high quality meal, great service and friendly staff. Highly recommend that you book as they get very busy especially on weekends and Sunday lunchtime. We sat in the front bar with a warm log burner roaring in the background which was just lovely! They even made an extra special effort with the kids icecreams as regular customers!

Stopped here for lunch before we went to the FOD for a walk, as soon as we entered with our dog we had a lovely welcome from the staff and customers all very welcoming, shown to our table and given menu’s and we both could have eaten anything on it, we chose the pork and the peppered steak & guiness pie with buttered vegetables and chips, it was all delicious nice to find somewhere that isn’t afraid to put some seasoning on their food, we had room for pudding so opted for the chocolate fondant and the sticky toffee pudding, both again very nice highly recommend this great little pub, well done to everyone involved!

Seriously, come and visit for yourself, you will not be disappointed. Honest, delicious food done to the highest standard all at reasonable prices. We had the lunch menu and it was so good we're coming back for dinner!

Me and boyfriend were staying nearby and booked to come here after reading reviews. It exceeded our expectations far beyond belief! The food was delicious, service was excellent and the atmosphere in the place was wonderful. Would travel back just for the food!!

The first thing that hit us as we entered this pub was the lovely cosy interior and the friendly, warm welcome. Whilst it wasn't particularly cold out it was damp and miserable and the log-burner was perfect. One of our party is in a wheelchair and we were asked to sit at the table we found most suitable. 'I'll let you get yourselves sorted then I'll come back' made us feel totally unrushed. We all struggled to make our choices from the menu as everything sounded wonderful. My sister opted for the lamb which was cooked to perfection as it was so tender. My Thai spiced potato soup was one of the best soups I've tasted and the seafood linguine was overflowing with salmon, prawns, cod & mussles. We were all delighted with our choice of food which was well-presented, good portion size and hot. I'd highly recommend this pub restaurant.

Miraculous pub! Cosy interior, friendly stuff, great Czech beer and amazing cider gives you a great place to spend a nigh. But what makes this pub truly extraordinary is their food. It is not that traditional "fantastic British food" which mostly means "edible". No, this food is FANTASTIC and their chef perfectly knows what he is doing. Everything - taste, plating, ingredient composition, level of techniques, size of portions, everything makes perfect sense. I had a by far the best slow-cooked lamb I've ever had!

He wanted fish and chips, I felt like a curry - no problem as the menu at The White Horse offers both along with a great range of dishes for the most discerning of diners. We know, because we’re locals! Today’s chicken curry was lovely, served with fragrant rice, mango chutney and naan bread. Attractively presented but I can’t show you because it was so good I ate it all! Beer battered fish and chips also got the thumbs up along with a couple of refreshing pints of ale. We love our local, there’s always a good mix of visitors to the area as well as people we know. You can’t go wrong with such good food and friendly, helpful service in a comfortable setting.

We came in this evening , food was very good , quite expensive . The thing we found which was very disappointing was the customer service , we was not once asked if our meal was ok or if we needed anything else , The vegetables didn’t arrive with our main meal we had to chase them up which was 15 mins after our meal arrived and to top it off we ordered dessert which we had to cancel as we had sat there for 25 mins waiting for it , my husband asked could we cancel it in a polite manner , the waitress came back to say that the chef had lost the check for our dessert , we were offered to have our dessert in the next five minutes but by that time it was far too late we just didn’t want it , and for the record we wasn’t rude at all so please do not tell your staff that we was .

After reading such good reviews on TripAdvisor, we were very much looking forward to our lunch here. We received a warm welcome, the staff are very nice. But the food is really underwhelming. Our starters were ok, nothing more. Our lamb main course was overly rich, it desperately needed something to freshen it all up. The reduced sauce was nice but there was so much of it! And dauphinois potatoes was the wrong choice for an already rich dish. The lamb itself was very nice. Nice glass of wine. Nice staff, nice pub although a bit chilly inside, bit overpriced in my opinion for what was served. Would have given it 3.5 stars but TripAdvisor don’t give me that option. I don’t want to give it 4 either but that means I’d have to give it 3, and I can’t bring myself to do it. I think the chef is trying a bit too hard and not quite pulling it off. We left wishing we’d gone somewhere else.

We were recommended The White Horse by the previous guests in our accommodation & I must agree that the staff, the ale & the dinner was superb. I would highly recommend the Guinea Fowl & the Curry. My Wife would recommend the Lamb & the Fish & Chips. The staff were very friendly especially our waitress who luckily worked on both the Tuesday & Friday when we visited. The beer was very reasonably priced & was one of my favourites, Black Sheep. When we are ever in the area we will definitely revisit for dinner. Exceptional !!

Top quality grub, family run friendly service, the plate is always left empty as you don't want to waste anything as ❤️ the food is Michelin quality at a very low price, I always feel guilty not being charged enough please make sure you book in advance

We visited the White horse inn for a spot of dinner while we was on a weeks holiday. Ellie was a greatbwaitress, very polite and attentive, the family very much enjoyed the visit and we was very well looked after! The food was absolutely spot on would very much recommended anyone that is looking for a quiet but lovely place to dine to go and check out this wonderful locstion, has no issues with the food, they will accomadate to your every needs. Lunch with two friends, friendly staff, would never normally choose liver and onions in a pub but this was absolutely delicious, cooked exactly as we ordered. Good atmosphere, think it will be even better in the colder weather with the fire burning.

Baked brie excellent and lovely pint of real ale. Sunny garden and friendly staff. Super walks in Forest nearby with a leaflet to describe local spots of historical interest. Great campsite within walking distance at Broadstone Camping and Fishery.

Visited with my husband. Had a quiet table for two. Really pleasant pub. Staff are very cheerful and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious and tasty. We had chicken breast topped with olive tapenade, smoked ham and parmesan and hake in a sauce. Both were succulent and full of flavour. Sweets also wonderful. Would highly recommend.

There's good pub food and then there's The White Horse Inn. I visited here with the family on a recent visit to the area and we were all impressed so much by the warm welcome and amazing food we had here. Everyone was happy (including the kids). I opted for the rib of beef / Sunday lunch and had no complaints at all, lovely in every aspect. This is a definitely place to stop for food if in the area or if not travel into the area to try it.

We had an early evening roast, I phoned ahead to book a table which was needed as a popular pub. The lady said they make fresh early evening roast. It was absolutely delicious, one of the best roasts I’ve had out. There were 6 in our group and we all really enjoyed it.

Prompt service. Staff were very polite. Food looked good. Whitebait was good, but chicken Kiev’s could have had more garlic. Fish and chips were great. Curry was a wee bit bland. Faggots were good and the steaks were great. Sausages were snaffled by hungry children. Big portions. Dessert was a disappointment as the ice cream flavours were tasteless across all 8 desserts. Drinks were a wee bit expensive. We have eaten here a few times now and it seems this time they are made everything middle of the road, whether that’s cos we had kids and a an adult table would get stronger flavours I don’t know. Would eat here again.

This venue is located immediately off the Monmouth Road (A4136) at Staunton. There is a good car park. Internally, there is a bar and a pleasant restaurant. Dining is available in the bar as well as the restaurant.

Went for evening celebration meal and found the food to be surprisingly delicious. Definitely worth a visit. I have a peanut allergy and waiter and chef we’re very helpful and suggested I don’t eat the bread as it is made off site and they could not be sure. Lovely to have such a cautious and understanding waiter who understands traces of allergens as well. Will definitely be coming back soon

In the two and a half years since my son was diagnosed with a food allergy, and having eaten out countless times both around this country and abroad, I have never been spoken to as rudely as I was here. Their menu invites you to speak to staff if you have an allergy - I can only assume this is because they enjoy rolling their eyes at customers, laughing sarcastically and telling them they can't be doing with checking ingredients.

We were in the Cotswolds for the week end with friends and found it quite difficult to get a meal after 8 in the evening as everyone seems to stop doing food early on a Sunday??? Anyway The White Horse accomodated us and i have to say the food and service was excellent. The Staff were very pleasant and all food and drinks were lovely. I would recommend this inn.

We eat frequently at The White Horse Inn and there is always a good selection to choose from the main menu and specials. Today we had a gravadlax starter which was line-caught trout (caught by the chef) prepared perfectly and served with a beetroot quenelle, slivers of marinated carrot, dressed with a vegetable purée, fennel and pea shoots. It was delicious. On another day I had a sirloin steak, served with peas, fries and sautéed onion rings marinated in balsamic (I think) very tasty anyway. Last week I had tender lambs liver, creamed potatoes, peas, red wine jus and garnished with crispy bacon. My other favourite dish is the hake, which is in a creamy dill and chive seafood sauce. No, we don’t eat there all the time but because the menu changes and the chef tries something new, we never get bored. I haven’t mentioned the desserts but everything on the board is superb. As locals, we often call in just for a drink but it’s hard to pass by such great food. Even Giles Coren would be hugely impressed...

Went to The White Horse for a meal with friends last night. Honestly it is the best food I have ever had!! I had the Topside of beef and it was melt in the mouth, just so gorgeous! My husband had home baked ham with a poached egg on a bed of mash - his words ‘it was to die for!’ Totally lovely meal with great service too!
