Amazing experience at the Lighthouse with the family for a special birthday. Exceptional food and staff, lovely mocktail too as I’m pregnant. Couldn’t fault it the food just gets better and better each time.

My fiancé and I came here for the Thursday evening sharing menu and had a lovely experience. The food was very tasty and the staff were delightful. Nice ambience with a good mix of couples and one larger group. We probably ordered a little too much, expecting smaller Tapas-style portions, but we enjoyed it all and came away very satisfied!

Lovely food and service but no worth £250 per head by any stretch of the imagination. We had the set menu but to find a glass of wine was £33 per glass was extreme

We visited as a couple for the first time last night (a Saturday) and it definitely didn’t disappoint. We started with a lovely pre drink in the bar before going through to the restaurant to indulge in the summer tasting menu. The service was impeccable without being too fussy. 10/10 for everything and we can’t wait to return.

I went with a friend who lives nearby. I honestly don't think I have said Wow so many times during a meal. They even dealt with my food intolerance with genuine care. It was truly amazing.

I visited the Lighthouse Restaurant last week while visiting Derbyshire with a friend to hike at Dovedale and stay at Wildhive Callow Hall. When I sat down and examined the menu, I realized there were several items that I do not eat. Any worry I had immediately dissipated upon mentioning it to my waiter -- he and the chef took great care to make individualized ingredient substitutions and the meal was spectacular! Their attention and concern made me feel totally at ease. The food is innovative and delicious, made with local ingredients. It is hard to pick my favorites but I'll pick a few: the coconut and chilli broth, Parker house rolls and local butter, and the choux bun with english strawberries and hibiscus.

Amazing food, service and overall experience. Visited on a Friday evening to a fully booked restaurant in the middle of beautiful no where. We were seated in the bar for a drink before moving to our table. The tasting menu was amazing- every course was perfect. John and his team were also friendly and attentive. We will be going back!

Definitely recommend visiting The Lighthouse if you're in the Ashbourne area. The food was and service was amazing. One of the best tasting menus I've had in a long while. Me and my wife took my brother out to the lighthouse to say thank you for dog sitting while on holiday. We have been before and again we had fantastic food, well cooked. If you enjoy food then you will enjoy coming here.

First time here and wow is all I can say. From the moment we arrived the service was sublime. Cocktails were amazing too - I had an amaretto sour. The courses were all presented beautiful and tasted incredible!!! We loved every single one and were blown away. The location is fab too with rolling hills and plenty of parking. The decor is tasteful inside as well. We will definitely be back!!!!

First class food, attentive service and a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. What’s not to like. Had a fabulous evening (a gift from our children) and can’t wait to go back. Have eaten in several Michelin starred restaurants, and the food here is up there with them. If there was a weak link, it was the lamb kofta, but only because it is similar to the kofta I prepare myself, so not particularly special, but every other course was stunning.

Superb as usual every dish faultless full of different amazing flavours. We loved the wagyu beef tartare first course and the Amalfi lemon crossover dish.

This fine dining restaurant offers "tasting" menus, for which it has received numerous awards including from Michelin. All I can say is that the restaurant exceeded expectations in all respects. Thank you for a memorable evening.

Dinner. Tapas fine dining evening. It's one of Ashbournes' premier restaurants. Located in Boylestone, a lovely little village just off the A50. On arrival, you are seated in the cosy bar area for a pre-dinner drink. A Sangria was the obvious choice. You are then shown through to the dining room. Barn, like with its exposed brick and high rafters, which is spacious and airy. Our table was facing the open kitchen where we could watch the chef and his team in action. As well as their seasonal tasting menus, they do some themed evenings. On our visit, it was the Tapas Menu. Snacks BBQ Picanto,feta/ Israeli cous cous. Manchogo & Jambon Croquette Chorizo. Loligo squid Tompura,saffron aioli/ anchovy oil. Gambas Pil Pil House Focaccia,tomato/ anchovy Hand Dived Orkney Scallop,Squid Ink Paella Iberico Pork Chop,black olive Hasselback potato bravas Salad of fennel/ orange/ citrus. Poached Clementine,lemon sorbet. Pastel De Nata,almond ice cream Petit Pours Service is attentive but not intrusive. The food and ingredients are of the highest quality. For a relaxed informal evening with music in the background, you'll be hard pushed to find better.

This is our third time eating here and once again it was faultless… from the opening Japanese cocktail to the beautiful end of meal chocolates… The food is incredible and the waiter took the time to explain each dish. The service is faultless.. helpful, professional but unobtrusive and discrete (it ruins you for other restaurants) We can’t wait for the new season menu and to book our next visit. Yes, it’s expensive but it’s not an every week restaurant so you feel as if it’s special and an occasion - but without feeling as if you’re in a stuffy formal environment - the balance is just right. Love it.

This was a Christmas gift from our son. Such a lovely treat to eat here. The food was exquisite. Every course was a taste sensation. The service was impeccable from the intimate bar to the attentive waiting service. We couldn’t fault anything. It was a perfect pace. We thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to come back.

We had wonderful dinner at the Lighthouse. The tasting menu was innovative and beautifully constructed, so that every course was very different, but equally delicious. An absolute delight and worthy of its highly rated reviews. The food was utterly delicious, the service was attentive, noninvasive and unpretentious. The duck was divine, as was the parfait and sour dough. We left fully satisfied. My only ‘even better if’ would be to change the seating arrangements in the bar, it felt more like a waiting room all facing inwards.

This was our second visit to this restaurant, and we had a fabulous evenings, yet again. The starter nibbles were delicious, especially the Gochujang Chicken. The crab starter was so good, as was the scallop course, which had a Thai twist, perfectly paired with a Sake cocktail! The highlight was definitely the lamb course, which was packed full of flavour. Puddings were great, with a strawberry ice cream lolly followed by a superb main dessert of yuzu, raspberry, mango and lots of other delicious flavours! Service was great, if a little slow towards the end of a very busy night, which can be excused! Will be back, that’s for sure!

I enjoyed the tasting menu along with a friend this last Saturday. The staff were polite, a delight & knowledgeable about the whole menu. Back again! I think it says it all when you have returning customers and this isn’t even close to where we live. Another exceptional meal from this very talented bunch. Just seen they have introduced the new winter menu but unfortunately no tables till January at earliest, yes it’s that good.

We went to The Lighthouse for a birthday meal last night while staying in the area. It was absolutely incredible, the food was the best we have both ever had and the service was spot on! Given the current Covid situation the team have done a great job at still creating a really relaxing but safe atmosphere.My husband usually likes big portions so I’ve always steered clear of tasting menu restaurants but he absolutely loved it and we really enjoyed trying lots of different dishes which had all been expertly made by a great team of chefs.The lamb shawarma was our favourite on the Autumn ‘20 menu but all of it was exquisite. We can’t wait to go back and try a different set of dishes next time! Would highly recommend if you’d like a treat!

A fabulous experience from the start to finish. All the staff were delightful and so knowledgeable about the food. The décor and atmosphere were intimate and relaxing. The highlight though has to be the food, absolutely exquisite and could not be faulted. I was so full but forced myself to finish the last course as I could not bear the thought of leaving it... We have not been to The Lighthouse for a couple of years. We were impressed then but more impressed now. The renovations to the old pub works really well. The food however was amazing. We dined after returning from London when we ate at the 3 ~ Alain Ducasse restaurant at the Dorchester. That was exceptional, but this place is also and the food was just as good. Quite simply, exquisite. I do not often write reviews however I feel obliged to sing the praises of all the staff at The Lighthouse. Last night was the second time we have visited this establishment & on both occasions the service and quality of food has been exceptional.The 24 hour jerk chicken taco will forever go down as one of, if not the best introductory courses I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.The restaurant decor is cosy & warmly lit, creating an intimate environment in which to lose yourself in an evening of gastronomic delight.Although it takes a little over an hour for us to travel to The Lighthouse, we will certainly be returning again - it’s worth every mile travelled & every penny spent!

Been here before and enjoyed it. This time we were greeted by a server with a mask over mouth but not nose (therefore pointless) and shown to our table. Other servers wore masks or not. It’s a small place and doesn’t feel well ventilated. Managed a scant 1m apart from other tables. Medical alcohol provided at each table and sanitiser etc on the way in. The food was fairly good. The prawns and lettuce starter was very average, chewy and didn’t need Parmesan. The lamb was very well done as was the cauliflower cheese. The brownie desert is very sickly with a lot of cream and no flavour beyond sweetness. May return post vaccine but not until.

This was our second visit , the first was just before pandemic and was an amazing experience with superb quality fine dining food. This second visit with COVID measures in place was again amazing. Cannot wait to return when the menu changes again. Favourite course this time was between pork&scallops and the super succulent beef dish. Excellent value and service too!

The lighthouse certainly knows how to plan a good night out. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and another couple joined us. We booked a time and the evening flowed very nicely from there on. They only do a set taster meal which I believe consists of six or seven courses of small delicious tasters. Don’t worry if you have allergies or dislikes, let them know when you book and they will accommodate you. Very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Couldn’t quite manage the last treat that came with the coffee, so we were given them is a little bag. Cute !

Fine food wrapped in a relaxed, comfortable blanket. As previous reviewers commented, Beef and Lemon Meringue are superb. Staff were informative and efficient but also friendly.Appreciated the chef coming out and having a chat.Their new format of a no options 'Tasting' menu wasn't the normal double digit courses of things that were made earlier in the day. It featured food that was local and freshly cooked.I understand the new set menu format and serving groups all at once helps in the kitchen and might improve the food, but we did find it a little restrictive. For some reason, sitting at your table for nearly an hour before receiving any food whatsoever felt a little strange. That said, for our money, just about the best restaurant in the East Midlands.

As ever the Lighthouse delivers an amazing and innovative tasting menu at a very competitive price indeed. The dining area has been spread out into the adjoining pub to provide very good social distancing. The 6 courses were each individually excellent and distinctive, made with seasonal ingredients, with great flavour combinations, textures and highly skilled execution. The wine list is fairly extensive with some (welcome) specialisation in French wines, and as we were celebrating we enjoyed an excellent bottle of red Burgundy.Staff are very well trained, attentive without being overbearing, and excellent Covid practices. It won't be long before we're back!

Quality of the food was remarkable as always. There was no bad dish.Having been here 4 times now, it’s natural to have menus that you prefer and all our party agreed that this menu was excellent but probably not quite on the level as the others.The jerk chicken taco to start was unimpeachably brilliant. It was followed by a fantastic brioche dish that was lovely but felt odd following a chicken starter. The smoked pork and lobster was outstanding and probably on a par with the taco for dish of the night. The konro beef fillet with Jacobs ladder was excellent but it didn’t wow like main courses have done from here previously. We all felt that the beef could have done with a pinch of salt just to add some extra flavour.Desserts were good as well with the lemon meringue being the pick of the bunch but neither having the wow factor of previous efforts such as the STP or snowman.I would say that the above comments are very nit picky as this is a phenomenal establishment.As an added afterward, a 12.5% service charge added to the bill for our table of 7 increased the price by nearly £100. I feel that considering the high cost of the meal already, the subliminal pressure of adding the service charge is a bit cheeky and adds a disproportionate expense. We are not in London. And it feels very awkward asking for it to be removed. We will be back.

This crazy world we are now in seems to be changing everyone and everything, so it was great to see how well The Lighthouse Restaurant have adapted to the changes. The safety and comfort of the diners is obviously paramount to the team and they have not overlooked any issues, I can genuinely say that my wife and I felt safe, secure and extremely well looked after. This is still an establishment serving amazing food and they did not fall below expectation, in fact the new menu I think surpasses anything that they have done before and as a Lighthouse 'addict' that takes some achieving!The team delivered on taste quality and service with every course and some exceptional food combinations. All I would say to anyone reading this review is do not be at all afraid of visiting this wonderful restaurant and make sure your taste buds are ready for another Lighthouse treat.
