Excellent as usual I had three courses definitely the best restaurant in the area the food was very tasty the service and staff are friendly would highly recommend been coming 10 yrs never had a bad meal

Visited Saturday evening party of 6 Love this restaurant so cosy looking. Food was great we all had fillet steaks all cooked to perfection service was great and not to rushed lovely atmosphere thankyou

On entering the historic building, sympathetically brought up to date, we were met with a warm welcome and shown to a table. The autumn menu seemed to cater for all tastes, with a particularly interesting selection of starters, some traditional, some more " in vogue". The mains included options for those with dietary needs, along with fairly traditional dishes given an exciting interpretation. Personally, I'd not normally pick chicken on a menu as it's too everyday, but I opted for the chicken kyiv with the chef's magic touch and was suitably impressed. Desserts were equally imaginative and I felt compelled to try one, despite the generous portions already consumed. The wine list again catered for all tastes, with a good selection of " by the glass" possibilities. The staff were both friendly and efficient and the overall experience a delight.

Popped in with my girlfriend for her birthday meal, happily accepted us as a walk in. Super cozy atmosphere, friendly attentive staff, excellent food and minimal wait time. Decent prices too. Really pleased, thanks guys

Not impressed at all, the starter was like a bowl of microwaved cheese. The main we had fillet, the fillet it’s self was beautiful but absolutely ruined by everything else that came with it. It came on a ‘crouton’ which tasted like a week old stuffing mix, the potato’s seemed to come from a child’s frozen dinner. It felt like someone’s frozen home cooked meals. Nonce of the flavours complimented each other it felt thrown together. Services was slow to take orders but food came out very fast which makes me believe the starter was just microwaved

It was our first time here and were very pleased with our choice. The restaurant was beautiful and the staff were extremely welcoming. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.?

My husband and I were visiting Ashbourne and booked a table at the Lamplight as a result of the excellent reviews on trip advisor. It did not disappoint! The food was amazing and the service was great. Looking forward to visiting again 😁 Would highly recommend!

Excellent quality food and service, thank you . We pre-booked on a bank holiday after reading TripAdvisor reviews and were pleased we did. Loved my meaty flavoursome belly pork main. Portions are generous and include sides. Piping hot tasty food prepared with love , professionally served by attentive but discrete cheerful staff. Reasonable cost . A very enjoyable experience. Recommended.

Absolutely amazing little restaurant.

So simple, so well presented great customer service...we walked in and were told whilst busy IF we had a drink on the terrace, they would find a table for us...the menu was just the right size, well priced, very well cooked and well presented...highly recommended.

Walked in without a reservation the Saturday before Valentine's Day (yes, I know) and we were lucky enough to get their last table! So pleased because it's a lovely environment in which to dine. The wine selection is good, the room is cosy, service is helpful and friendly and both our meals were very good. Poached & roasted chicken breast was excellent and the sea bass was apparently also extremely good. It'd been many years since I'd been in before but I will definitely make sure it's not long before we go back. Recommended!

Great food at a reasonable price.

This was a 'blind' choice based on what was there on the interweb....you have my age now!.....but it turned out to be a great choice. I dine in restaurants for a living so sometimes easy to criticise but this one didn't disappoint for a Saturday night dinner. Service was great as was the cooking and choice available. My only gripe would be the wine list....as regards choice and price but the 'basics' were there. So along eithe the service, good choice and good cooking all was good and I went off happy and content. Go there....you won't be disappointed for a meal out.

Food was fantastic, huge range of different meals (meat and vegetarian) and all really tasty. A must visit in Ashbourne.

Our first return in quite sometime and things have not changed. The quality of the booking communications, the welcome, the range on the menu, the excellent cooking and good wines make this a must go to location for us. There is a warm and pleasant atmosphere from the moment you walk in to the minute you leave. Starters were good sized portions as were the mains and the quality of the produce and the skill with which it was prepared and presented make this a notch above most other places we have experienced in Derbyshire. A return is on the cards sometime soon.

Beautiful food, one of the best ever. I had the duck and my wife had the salmon and both were full of flavour. Sweets were not quite up to the same standard but still good.

We hadn't been to this lovely restaurant before, but our friends had and accompanied us. We were given a great table by the front window for the 4 of us. We were very impressed by the food, ambience and servers...lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely be returning !

First visit and found the interior pleasantly surprising, being spacious and with a very impressive atmosphere where the", shop front" was nothing like as impressive. We enjoyed a good meal and excellent service. Quiet at the start the restaurant soon filled up with apparently happy diners and is obviously very popular.

Lovely little restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere in the middle of Ashbourne. Food was lovely and the proprietor friendly and engaging. Definitely use again on a Ashbourne trip.

Dined here just before Christmas, Unfortunately the service was lacking, took nearly 15 minutes for someone to take a drinks order and the staff seemed very young, which I not an issue but they seemed inexperienced, The food however was absolutely amazing, we both had the fillet steak at a supplement but was worth every penny.

Lovely meal and the staff were very polite and friendly. Pleasant atmosphere and a nice sized venue. Perfect place for a get together with friends or an intimate evening with a loved one.

Still going, again and again, as promised; this remains the stand-out best place to eat (IMHO) in Ashbourne! Excellent; no other word for it! Despite living locally for some time, we have never dined here - regretting that now!! One of the best dinning experiences for some considerable time. The interior looks fresh and modern; the staff are utterly professional in everything they do (well trained / very experienced); the food is exceptional in flavour, presentation, and is delivered on hot plates; finally, the menu is seasonal, so expect the dishes to change - Spring, Summer, and Autumn. As I always say: get yourself along, whether local or just passing through … I know we’ll be going again, and again! 😉

Lovely dinner for wife’s birthday here last night. Small but busy, waited on wonderfully from the staff. Helped pop a candle in some profiteroles for a birthday surprise. Food was lovely and would be happy to return. Thanks

My husband booked initially a table for 2, for my birthday, but then emailed to change the booking to 6, to include our family. Booking was acknowledged, but on arrival for our meal, was told we only had only booked a table for 2. He showed the owner the email, yet despite it being in black and white, she argued and would not honour our booking. Whilst I understand mistakes or misunderstandings occur, at no point did she offer an apology or a chance to rebook, with maybe a discount, for the inconvenience, she was just adamant they were not at fault. They knew from the original booking it was a birthday meal, but made no attempt to try and accommodate us, so we were left with nothing! Thankfully another restaurant made room for us at short notice, so the evening was not a total disaster. Totally disgusted by the way we were treated by this establishment, would never go again.

A wonderful little jewel in the market place, Ashbourne. One of the oldest buildings transformed into a welcoming, cosy dining space, The food was delicious and plentiful, thank you Pat for your attention to detail. We shall definitely return and highly recommend.

Just very nice really. The staff are very helpful, the dishes not overly complex - and the food was excellent. The menu was not extensive and was well balanced. Always good when you're torn between 2 or 3 tempting alternatives. Pleasant atmosphere (all diners appeared happy) and good value. Recommend.

Another wonderful meal at The Lamplight. The menu was packed with tempting dishes and the choices we made were delicious. The staff welcome you with a smile and make sure you have everything you need. Great atmosphere, we will have to make another reservation so that we can try out other dishes on the menu. Make sure you book in advance as the restaurant gets busy.

Restaurant situated right in the centre of Ashbourne. Parking available in several places nearby. Not wheelchair or pushchair accessible as the property has steps at entrance. Small seasonal menu. Small wine list. Service was good, very friendly and helpful staff member. Nice decor, cosy and romantic atmosphere and lovely window seating. Starters, mains and deserts are all fixed prices with the exception of the odd supplement charge, prices are very reasonable. Good portion sizes. Food was nice throughout the 3 courses we ordered. Nice local restaurant.

Enjoyed a nice meal here, the menu is priced the same for all the starters and is similar for the mains. You can tell the food is freshly made and our starters and mains were very good. 2 starters & mains with a large glass of red each came to £63. Definitely a good place to go for something different when you have had pub classics most of the week.

I was turned away on the basis that "We stop serving at 20:30" despite the fact the restaurant closes at 23:00 and there were tables that had not yet been served at 20:35 when I arrived. Probably best to book ahead to avoid facing the same lousy excuse

Out for a meal with 2 friends . There should have been 4 of us : he defo missed out. Lovely setting , good food and lovely waitresses . The menu changes every month… so photos are from the August 22 menu . Bit of a treck for us to go from Stoke but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ( already have actually)

First visit to this superb restaurant, will certainly not be the last. The menu has very good choices and interesting options. The food was delicious, presentation lovely and exciting ingredients that made the lunch special. Pat was delightful and although we did not meet the chef he is certainly can cook. As we live in Sheffield it is sadly not on our doorstep but we certainly plan to visit again in the not too distant future. Thank you.

Loved this place. The dining area has a spectacular wall to wall window which just draws the eye. It has a boutique feel about. The Staff were excellent the food was fantastic. I had the Coconut and Macadamia crusted salmon and it was beautifully presented and tasted even better. Well done guys 👍

My sister and I had a wonderful meal here to celebrate our 80th birthday. Leah (our waitress) was a delightful girl, very attentive but not over the top! She presented us with a bottle of MOET that my cousins had arranged as a surprise for us which was delicious. The meal was AMAZING, each course was beautifully presented and was delicious. We haven't been to a restaurant this good for a long long time. We don't live near Ashbourne which is a shame as I would certainly come again if we did. Thank you for a wonderful evening and super food.

Best dining experience for some time. The restaurant caters well for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters, with very inventive dishes. All in beautiful historic building.

Minimal menu and all mains and starters etc same price regardless of item but extra cost added for some items, found overpriced and menu underrated, on top of the price service was so slow after sitting for 20 mins and not even being offered a drink we decided to leave

Fabulous food. Attentive and speedy but no pressure service. Looked after our large group beautifully. ( prebooked menu due to group size ) I would highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely revisit. 5 ⭐️

If I'm honest, from the reviews and pics on here I was expecting a lot more. There is clearly an aspiration to serve good food and be a high-class restaurant. Unfortunately at our sitting all the plates were mediocre at best.

The food is presented beautifully and it is good value, but please show the meat some seasoning. The lamb cannon was beautifully pink but was bland, and the Risotto was sadly stodgy and tasteless. Throw some butter, salt, pepper and fresh herbs in it and...

Incredibly disappointed… that I didn’t order the muscles as they were divine! (the fritter starters were also nice). Pork Loin main was really well cooked. Food was presented great and the place itself had a lovely feel to it. Would definitely recommend.

The lamphouse were able to squeeze us in last minute on a Saturday. Nice atmoshphere, and good choice on the menu. The mussles were perfect, as well as the fresh bread. Would recommend for a great meal in Ashbourne.

We booked this meal due to the good reviews but we were sadly disappointed overall. Two of us had the fried blue cheese starter which was excellent. We both had the lamb on risotto as well. It was good but needed seasoning. The real disappointment...

Charming restaurant in the middle of town. Lamb cannon was delicious, as was the salmon en papillote (wifey & I swapped half way 🙂). Only improvement could be the addition of some summer veg.
