A superb quaint pub with an amazing atmosphere. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming with banter thrown in. 😁 I ordered the Rosemary and Garlic Lamb with sweet potato and leek and it was absolutely delicious (compliments to the chef who we could see were very cheerful. 😁) I should have taken a photo but was too busy enjoying it. 😋. I highly recommend this establishment to eat and drink. Its best to book especially at busy times. Its worth every penny.

I think I just discovered my favourite pub in the Peak District! Last night was just perfect - the food was delicious (special kudos to Liam for his luscious gluten free peanut butter brownie that two of us couldn't finish as the portion was huge!) , Vicky was so friendly and hospitable - she let us stay by the fireplace in her cosy pub until she had to close it for the night and we very much enjoyed her music choice for the evening <3

We have eaten here several times over the past few years having been for a gorgeous walk in the surrounding area and it never disappoints. The pub itself is a gorgeous cosy old building with log fires. The food is tasty, locally sourced and generous portions. They do home made fries that are actually crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside and madly moreish. The staff are very pleasant and friendly. And the beer garden is lovely. All in all a perfect Peaks pub.

We chanced upon the Packhorse as we returned south, breaking our journey in the Derbyshire Dales, after a week walking in the Lakes. What a treat! Easily the best food and service we’ve had in a long time at any pub. We had three courses, starting with KFP (Kentucky Fried Pheasant!!!). Then Venison haunch with a saffron orzo risotto and an outstanding cheese board washed down with the best beer (Brother Robin) and a Godfather cocktail, as recommended, with the cheese. My wife had Korean chicken, confit pork belly and lemon tart, all washed down with cider and some Shiraz. This all came down to a smidgeon under £60 a head which sounds expensive but would be good value at twice the price at much more well-known and pretentious venues. Service was top notch and worthy of a healthy tip (service NOT included which is rare these days). The unexpected nature of this find coupled with the service and quality of food makes the Packhorse my pub of the year and I will tell anybody who wants to listen all about it. Chapeau to you, ladies and gents. The Packhorse has legs. A tip for future diners: book ahead! We sat on the ‘impromptu table’ bit there is only one and just enough space for two.

We went for Sunday lunch on 13th October. The staff were good, but quite a few items unavailable, even the coffee! The food wasn't as good as I'd been led to believe but the quantity of beef - which was excellent- was huge so a bit of a mixed bag. I'd go again though as it's a great rural venue and is definitely worth supporting.

Don’t even dare to think of going in for a beer. You will get told off for having the audacity. I got told off for not having booked. For a beer? Seriously? This was one of my late brother’s favourite pubs, a proper fire and walking boots kind of place.i haven’t been in for over 5 years. Now it seems to be a pretentious gastro pub. What a shame.

Lovely pub, in a beautiful location. The food was good, not great. My main issue was the portion sizes. I feel for the prices, the portions are small. The 'jug' of custard for my crumble was the size of one in a dolls tea set. Not sure there was 3 spoon fulls of custard.

Went to the Packhorse Inn for an evening meal. Good food and choice of real ales for my hubby. However, my vegetarian mushroom main course was rather small and I did feel hungry afterwards. Additional veg/salad would have been nice. I love this type of olde pub which is clearly thriving from the packed tables tonight. However, I was disappointed to be sitting at a table with a sideway view into the steamy kitchen from a split stable door. With this in mind, perhaps additional ventilation could be put into the kitchen and a more attractive serving hatch. The music playing didn't add to the ambience either. I'm not against background music but it does need to be thought through to enhance the dining experience!

On entry you have the real feel of a genuine country inn which hasn't changed for decades - not the case I'm sure. It is a considered interior with a period feel cosy corners and wooden furniture - cushioning of course. The menu is surprising offering choice, variety and inspiration - from Sardines, mackerel, to marinated tiger prawns and Moroccan Lamb pressed into burgers. There is a country invitation to families, children and dogs never mind muddy boots!

We'd already contacted The Packhorse before our week's stay in Little Longstone, as we had some specific requirements. The initial responses from Vicki and her team were really encouraging, but the courtesy, understanding and level of service we received when we arrived were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble, and all members of the FOH and kitchen team we had contact with were really friendly and understanding. This, coupled with the fact the food was superb, the beer brilliant and (at last!!!) a pub that serves decent house wines at reasonable prices, means we can't fault The Packhorse at all. If you're in the area, just go. But if you want feeding, you need to book....for all the above reasons, they are busy....and rightly so. Thanks to all at The Packhorse for making our stay in Little Longstone and relaxing and enjoyable one.

We'd had a nightmare three-hour drive down the M6 to our accommodation in Little Longstone so we were desperate for food and drink. Despite being very busy, the staff at the Packhorse found us a table, and we sat down to one of the best pub meals we've ever had - venison and lamb burgers and Bakewell tart. It was all delicious! We also demolished a bottle of really good rose wine. The service was excellent - all the young staff were friendly and welcoming. And the bill wasn't outlandish - it was very good value. After eating we sat in the small snug bar with a nightcap, chatting to people - it was all lovely.

On entering the historic building, sympathetically brought up to date, we were met with a warm welcome and shown to a table. The autumn menu seemed to cater for all tastes, with a particularly interesting selection of starters, some traditional, some more " in vogue". The mains included options for those with dietary needs, along with fairly traditional dishes given an exciting interpretation. Personally, I'd not normally pick chicken on a menu as it's too everyday, but I opted for the chicken kyiv with the chef's magic touch and was suitably impressed. Desserts were equally imaginative and I felt compelled to try one, despite the generous portions already consumed. The wine list again catered for all tastes, with a good selection of " by the glass" possibilities. The staff were both friendly and efficient and the overall experience a delight.
