Tucked away in a beautiful area, lovely food and great service. I can imagine it particularly appealing and cosy in a Winter evening with the log fire on. I'll be coming back. 🙂

What a great place. The service was great. The food was great. I had the burger which was excellent, followed by the sticky ginger pudding which was epic. Probably the best pudding I've ever had. Disregard the mention of fennel, it isn't noticeable.

Popped to the Packhorse after a very long hike, we were lucky to find a table without a reservation so would definitely advise booking in advance to avoid disappointment. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The pub itself was quaint and cosy. As for food, I had the bavette steak with a glass of Malbec and it was a 10/10 combination! My partner had the pork belly with an IPA which was incredibly soft and well presented. Probably up there with the best pub food and drink we have ever had! A great selection of non alcoholic beers too for those driving. Not to forget the huge portion of plump and juicy well dressed olives for £4. Thank you very much 😊

Everything you would want from a pub located near a number of beautiful trails in the Peaks. 4 hours into a hike we stopped off for a drink, saw a few Sunday lunches come out and there was no way we couldn’t order some. Was as good as they look! The staff are lovely as well, made an already great day better! Thank you

Had the pleasure of going here for Sunday lunch today. Had never been before and chose it based on reviews. Staff were really welcoming and friendly. A lovely old, country pub, small and quaint. Parking was a bit of a nightmare as there is no car park and the street was packed from end to end. They only have 9 tables so you need to book to ensure you aren’t disappointed. My husband had 3 courses, seasonal asparagus, sea bass and chocolate torte and he said all were delicious, some of the best food he’s had out in a while. He liked the fact that there were some varied choices as well as the regular roasts and starters you usually get on a Sunday menu. I had 2 courses, roast beef dinner and the best ginger pudding I’ve ever eaten. I had to send the dinner back to go in the microwave as it was barely lukewarm but don’t get me wrong the food tasted delicious and was very well cooked, I just like my food piping hot. The beef was so tender and I loved how everything was homemade. No frozen veg or Aunt Bessie’s yorkies here. It was nice to have a flavoursome cauliflower cheese on the plate instead of having to pay extra for it as a side. This will definitely be our go to place for Sunday lunch in the Peak District now, thank you very much

Used to be a good place to eat but something has changed. Very poor menu selection on a Sunday afternoon other than roast dinners. Ordered a gammon roast dinner. The vegetables were very average, Yorkshire pudding was as flat as a pancake, small, crispy and not very nice, roast potatoes were rock hard and part way through the meal found a hair in my dinner. In my opinion once we discreetly notified the staff about the hair, the plate should have been taken away and replaced. The staff member said it would be sorted, but no replacement food was offered and they thought it acceptable to simply not charge us for that food. Needless to say when we left I had hardly eaten anything and came away very disappointed and hungary. They could have handled this much better. We will not be returning and suggest if you have been before you think twice about going again.

Ordered a nice piece of Steak wanted medium rare got well done. With eyes closed you would have sworn it was gammon it was that salty, chips worst I've had in years, like bits out of the fryer. Had to wait an hour for the food. Far far too many people getting crammed into a tiny space staff cannot cope with the amount of people the management book in. Some dreadful table positions, one right on the open door the rest often have people's backsides in your face. A really disappointing experience 👎

Went here for Sunday roast. It’s so tightly packed inside and we were constantly being surrounded by people at the bar and others sitting at our table even though it was reserved for just us. The door was being opened and closed so much the inside was freezing cold and didn’t make for a nice atmosphere at all. The food arrived really late as it went to the wrong table the first time so we were starving by the time we got it. Then when we finally got our food it was cold and the beef was full of fat and gristle. The staff were friendly and did resolve the situation which we were grateful for but we will not be visiting again.

An old favourite pub with a wonderful atmosphere, good beer and food. That is until yesterday. Sadly the food does not quite belong with the atmosphere and good beer categories anymore and that lovely quality has faded somewhat. Rather disappointing to be honest when talking family members on their first visit. I know this pub had/ has pride in their food offerings, but there really needs to be an improvement. For instance, my dish was belly pork with black pudding mash, a really tasty meal, however far too much potato and no vegetables at all was what spoiled it for me. My wife had roast turkey, and the turkey appeared to have come from a roll, almost perfect circles. There were two slices one on the other with a sandwich filling of stuffing. Not at all appealing as we're the over large potatoes, which had skin on and reassembled baked, not roast. Socks need pulling up Packhorse please. Vicki, thank you for your reply and I can accept that on occasions things can fall a little below par, we are all human after all. The next time I venture from North Yorkshire to your vicinity, I will certainly return to your lovely pub. Regards, David

I tried to book a table for six of my family to visit this establishment. I went in line as asked to do on their website and placed a reservation for 1.45 pm for Sunday. I received an email with a reservation number but with a caveat that this was not a confirmation, but that I would receive an email confirming ‘if’ they could accommodate my party ‘as soon as possible’. I waited… and waited..,and nothing arrived. As I was travelling a considerable distance from Wales to be with my family for this occasion, I tried calling the Packhorse all day Saturday …. 11 times! Eventually on the Saturday evening I got through, only to be told that the earliest they could accommodate us would be 5pm. I explained the situation but the best they could offer was an outside table at 4.30 in the middle of winter. I think this is terrible service. All other online reservation services that I have used (such as OpenTable) confirm the booking immediately so you know where you are. Leaving it until Saturday evening to be told (and only because I called them) that they could not fit us in, has now limited my options for the next day, as everywhere I am now trying is fully booked up, and all because of a ridiculous booking system run by The Packhorse. Be warned. The food may be good, but I will never know.

The current menu is particularly good for seafood lovers, and my partner said that her seabass dish was the best she's ever had in the UK. The staff were friendly and attentive. It has a very relaxed vibe, but at the same time it's clear that the standards are high in terms of the food and the service. The food isn't cheap, but certainly not overpriced - I feel like the price was reflected in the quality of the food and overall experience. We both had coffees which were nice and well priced. We chanced upon the Packhorse as we returned south, breaking our journey in the Derbyshire Dales, after a week walking in the Lakes. What a treat! Easily the best food and service we’ve had in a long time at any pub. We had three courses, starting with KFP (Kentucky Fried Pheasant!!!). Then Venison haunch with a saffron orzo risotto and an outstanding cheese board washed down with the best beer (Brother Robin) and a Godfather cocktail, as recommended, with the cheese. My wife had Korean chicken, confit pork belly and lemon tart, all washed down with cider and some Shiraz. This all came down to a smidgeon under £60 a head which sounds expensive but would be good value at twice the price at much more well-known and pretentious venues. Service was top notch and worthy of a healthy tip (service NOT included which is rare these days). The unexpected nature of this find coupled with the service and quality of food makes the Packhorse my pub of the year and I will tell anybody who wants to listen all about it. Chapeau to you, ladies and gents. The Packhorse has legs. A tip for future diners: book ahead! We sat on the ‘impromptu table’ bit there is only one and just enough space for two.

Went here for a meal with 11 other people. We had preordered food and had great service from start to finish. Very professional booking system and great to be able to pay separately. Food was excellent, very tasty and very filling, it all had that home made feeling. We all enjoyed the food and great service. Lovely pint of Jaipur. Will definitely look to return.

Don’t even dare to think of going in for a beer. You will get told off for having the audacity. I got told off for not having booked. For a beer? Seriously? This was one of my late brother’s favourite pubs, a proper fire and walking boots kind of place.i haven’t been in for over 5 years. Now it seems to be a pretentious gastro pub. What a shame.

Lovely pub, in a beautiful location. The food was good, not great. My main issue was the portion sizes. I feel for the prices, the portions are small. The 'jug' of custard for my crumble was the size of one in a dolls tea set. Not sure there was 3 spoon fulls of custard.

Everyone else's food was really good, my steak sandwich not so much but it was a special so I think just a one off. Otherwise the service and welcome were great so would definitely try again

Love the place but those little tables out in the sun could do with being bigger.

Had brunch with friends who have just moved to the area, 2 orders of eggs Benedict and one full breakfast all outstanding and beautifully presented. The best eggs I think I have ever tasted! The ladies who looked after us today were very professional but mostly very friendly and patient taking time to show us around and answer all our questions, the lady serving us was very attentive and had a great sense of humour 🤣We will definitely be back.

We stopped in for a Sunday roast and are so glad we did. The welcome we received was professional, yet relaxed and friendly. The atmosphere is spot on, and the food was something else. We all opted for the roasted beef, and it did not disappoint. We will definitely be back, that's for sure. If I were to suggest anything to the venue, it would be to provide steak knives with the beef, just to make cutting the medium-rare meat that much easier. But we still loved everything and can't wait to go back.
