Incredible!! The second trip to the Merchant’s yard in recent weeks, we cannot get enough. Me and my girlfriend had the tasting menu yesterday evening, as this was new to the offering, my god it did not disappoint. Our waitress, was lovely, and attentive. We had afternoon tea for 4 and was joined my 18 month old son. I was unsure as to if the venue was suited to a toddler but was pleasantly surprised, the chef came out and made a real fuss of him and let us know that if we needed anything extra for him to just ask. The afternoon tea was DELICIOUS! All waiting staff were lovely, helpful, polite and professional. I will definitely be visiting again - all the food menus looked delicious.

Came in for lunch on our way to youlegrave. Normally eat in the George pub but it was closed for refurbished. So glad we did. We both had the belly pork which was served with mustard mash, greens and a very tasty jus. Excellent. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and clotted cream ice cream. Very indulgent.

We're staying in Tideswell for a couple of nights and decided to go out for dinner locally. The Merchant's Yard was only a 5 minute walk away so we decided to give it a go - and I'm so pleased we did! Food and service both excellent. Shout out to our waitress Gemma who was super nice and attentive throughout.

Another wonderful night at The Merchant's Yard. Having visited before have been keen to return and the experience certainly didn't disappoint! They have a brilliant team serving and I would say the food was even better than before!

Considering the nice decor, high prices and food presentation I was expecting some great tasting food. Unfortunately some of the duck was unchewable and the whole meal was extremely salty, which I was left tasting ALL evening. I was given the excuse the chef was ‘experimenting with new cooking techniques’, then offered a free messily coffee (which I declined). Any ‘experimenting should not be done at the customers expense! (Near £30). The fillet steak was tender and tasty but the accompanying chips tasted like they’d been cooked in old oil. Not great for £35. We basically left feeling ripped off.

Visiting Tideswell to visit family we booked a table for Sunday lunch. We we welcomed warmly and shown to our table. Staff were generally attentive and efficient as we ordered drinks to our table. The food was excellent and the restaurant had a really nice atmosphere. Given the quality of the food and the location/venue the prices are reasonable and we will certainly look to return very soon.

Went for Sunday lunch today, We had booked and it was a good job the restaurant was 3/4 full by 2pm. The place is very nice and has been refurbished to a high standard and ample parking. We had some drinks in the bar before and it was pleasant. We all chose Sunday lunch that is served on a board in the middle of the table. Food was hot and ample portions. We came for dinner and had the most wonderful meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and was incredibly tasty! We went for a Valentine's meal (we chose from the normal menu rather than the set Valentine deal) and it was the nicest meal we have had for a long time. Both the bespoke bread and sharing flatbread were fresh and full of flavour. The flatbread was well also well-sized (it would be sufficient for 4 people) and the Fillet Steak was tasty and succulent. Chips were nicer than on previous occasions with a well prepared accompanying vegetable side dish. I also really enjoyed my dessert, nicely presented and a good portion. Well done to the chef(s). I have eaten here before, back in 2019 and the food was excellent then, it still is and the service is friendly and very good. A great menu, with a lot of local specialities: the Derbyshire Scotch Egg was lovely, and a good wine list. They do rooms now too and my stay was fabulous (the breakfast is also very very good).

We were greeted by young but very friendly and polite staff , they were all so nice and helpful. We were pleased at the price of the drinks , cheaper than some pubs and lovely comfy settees to relax. We like a lot about this restaurant, we have been many times, sometimes excellent, sometimes things have been poor, but we want it to succeed in our village. The restaurant and the service at are almost always very good. The food is usually very good. The portions are usually too small and the prices are usually too high. That said we have often had Sunday roast with no complaints about any of these things. Under £20, lovely food and decent portions. The chicken roast has ALWAYS been a half chicken. Perfect. This time just a small (overcooked) breast (see photo) for the same price (£17.95). The rest of the food was lovely as always but the chicken was poor. 2 small roast potatoes each (come on!) and the mash for all 4 of us was in the white dish you can see in the photo - about the right amount for 2 people. The food for all 4 came on one board. If the chicken roast had increased in price by a £ or two over the last 6-12 months that would have been fine but to leave the price the same and change it from half a chicken to a breast is poor value. Not least because I like the dark meat! Please reinstate the half chicken, stop scrimping on the cheapest ingredient - potato - and we’ll be back!

This place really flatters to deceive, the pictures online look lovely but in reality the large open plan refectory is an acoustic nightmare but that is only the start of the issues. Service was poor and it was clear that the young waiting staff have received little or no training and seemed to have little or no supervision. No idea how to take an order, no offer to provide condiments and when American mustard was requested English was provided in an unmarked container - quite a shock to the senses! Food was worse than the service. Out of eight meals ordered three steaks were anaemic but still overcooked, two burgers were so dry that they were inedible, mac and cheese was bland but like the pizza just okay. We were so disappointed with the food served that we declined desserts. The only plus was that we had a lovely bottle of Douro served at just the right temperature. In short avoid if you want a good meal - we had better food at a fraction of the price in each of the pubs at which we ate in Tideswell, over the weekend.

I have eaten at The Merchant's Yard many times and the food is always good. On my last visit, however, the food was still good but very much overpriced. (I have been to more expensive places but The Merchant's Yard is not in their league for quality (e.g. a Simon Rogan restaurant).) Main courses were around £25.00 but required side dishes for potatoes/chips and for vegetables. 'Green vegetables' comprised a few small broccoli florets and a small amount of shredded cabbage...for £4! Dessert were £10 (a.k.a. £9.95). Pleasant staff, food served hot. I will not be returning any time soon. Not worthy the money.
