We stayed in our motorhome in the car park Friday night. Had a wonderful curry with pickle tray which was to die for. Great service and very welcoming. We woke up peckish and decided to get the Okeover breakfast, OMG it was easily the best breakfast we have ever eaten. All amazing quality produce and will be returning. Can't rate highly enough.

After walking for over an hour in the driving rain with our two dogs, the sight of this pub was very welcome, even more so when we saw the sign outside saying “muddy boots and dirty paws welcome” ….which certainly described us. We were made to feel more than welcome with somewhere to hang out wet dog coats and offered a dog bed next to our table, although our Labrador preferred the fireside…. The food was fantastic, service was timely and a very pleasant experience was had by us all. Special shout out to the fish gouchons and pork belly bite starters - very yummy. After pleasantly chatting to the owner about dogs/food/drink/xmas etc we mentioned we had to make a move before dark as we were a little concerned that our arthritic 9yo Labrador may struggle a bit after slipping on the ice earlier in the day so we started to get ready to go. Once our Labrador got up from the fireside limping heavily the owner only offered to drive us back to our cabin in her 4x4. Which we happily accepted and were very relieved to get Rosie home. I still can’t quite believe how hospitable, friendly and kind we found the owner and staff of this establishment. It gives me great pleasure in recommending them and also restores my faith that such nice caring people do still exist. Thank you so much, Graham, Elise, Rosie and Tanna. x

We were in Ashbourne for a funeral and booked into this lovely country inn for a couple of nights , it’s a lovely cosy place with a lovely log burning stove , the staff are so very helpful and very friendly and made you feel very welcome, the food is excellent from a very tasty breakfast with a great choice to a delicious evening meal , our room was very clean and had all we needed with a lovely view outside and we were lucky enough to have snow. A full length mirror in the room would be nice and the shower was a little small but lovely and hot.. we would definitely stay here again.

Found this gem of a pub today. Excellent service, varied menu, great food. This has to be the most welcoming place and it couldn't have been more dog friendly with beds, treats and bowls of filtered water provided. Definitely on our "return to" list. Thank you.

Met up with a friend here and it was an excellent choice. Thought it might have been a pub trying to do Indian food, but two Asian chefs produced excellent dishes. Lovely food and a very welcoming pub. Could quite easily have eaten most on the menu, which is very rarely the case! We shall return!

Stopped here whilst on a van journey across the UK. We picked this place largely in hopes of staying the night in the carpark and the staff were very welcome and happy for us to do this. We also picked this pub in particular as we saw there was Indian style cuisine on the menu and what we had was delicious. The Indian fish and chips were lovely, as was the chicken tikka masala. As soon as we entered the pub, the staff were lovely. Matt (I think was his name!) greeted us, kept the drinks flowing, had great recommendations and was easy to chat with. To summarise, anything we needed was provided, and we were left very happy. As a bonus, we didn't know they opened for breakfast, so had a great breakfast meal before heading south on our journey. I would drive through this way again just for the pub, so thanks very much!

We popped in here on a whim after a hike in Dovedale on Sunday - can often be risky grabbing the nearest place, but we were pleasantly surprised! We had to sit outside as there was no inside seating, but this was fine considering it was a lovely autumn day and we were so last minute! We ordered the roasts and WOW - top quality ingredients, cooked to perfection- absolutely delicious! We ordered the masala chips on the side too which were scrumptious! Dog treats on the side were a lovely touch, and the kids enjoyed the outdoor playground. Hope to return again!

Ramblers Unwelcome! Over the last decade I have called at the Okeover Arms 3 or 4 times when walking and always been told that, as long as we bought drinks, we were welcome to eat our sandwiches in the beer garden. However on a recent visit, with a party of 17 thirsty Ramblers we were told No, only food prepared on the premises could be eaten in the (completely empty) beer garden. And where, in hospitable Derbyshire, did they recruit such unsympathetic staff?

Unfortunately we had somewhat of an average / poor experience here, we booked on a weekday evening for 7:15pm, and when we arrived there was no one at the bar to greet us. We stood for a little while and eventually a member of staff came over and took us to our seats. For some reason the bar is very well lit, whilst the restaurant is not? We were a party of 4, sat on a table for 6 and there was very little lighting, just one small lamp in the middle. I have good eyesight but even I was struggling to read my menu! The seating is quite uncomfortable (hard wooden chairs), and the tables too high in comparison to the chairs - not really what you want when you just want to sit and relax with a meal and some drinks. Our orders weren’t taken for about 10/15 minutes, and the food took FOREVER to arrive. Bearing in mind I think there was maybe one other table of two and us in the restaurant (there were a few more seated in the bar), we didn’t get our mains until 8:15, a whole hour after we’d been seated. On the menu I noticed that it says to please be patient as all the food is cooked fresh, which I understand but I feel considering the restaurant was almost empty that this is far too long to wait? My main was very average and lacking in flavour, chips underdone and definitely not worth the wait. The staff were pleasant, but we weren’t asked how our mains were until we were nearly finished. We also weren’t asked if we wanted more drinks, and a couple of times had to go up to the bar to order these ourselves. Sadly for that reason we chose not to have dessert, had it not been for the wait for our mains we probably would have done - but we would have likely been there until 10pm!

If you’re eating at the pub you can stay in your camper for free over night like we did. We then had a delicious breakfast before heading out for a long dog walk in the beautiful surrounding area. The Okeover Arms provided maps of 3 circular walks of varying length. We followed the loop to Dovedale stepping stones before heading back for another delicious dinner. (So nice we had it twice). The family run (I think) staff were all so welcoming and I got the impression of a genuinely happy atmosphere amongst them all which is a big part of feeling welcome in my opinion. Possibly the most dog-friendly place I’ve been with dog dinners and cushions available which our Spaniel was very happy with. Would happily visit again!

We booked a table at 2.30, we sat down and ordered quick, it took just over an hour for the food to come out which was a bit disappointing. We would have stayed for dessert but we had 2 restless kids who couldn't wait any longer. The two lads behind the bar and owner/manager was lovely and attentive but seems like there is to many covers to what the kitchen can handle. The place was very busy, its such shame because maybe less is more . Roast dinners were nice, but the kids chips were very hard and the burger wasn't great. No one table checked our food , once it arrived we never had any one ask if it was OK, and payed the bill before the table was cleared .

We stayed here in our motorhome one evening as the owners were very happy for us to park in their car park as we were having dinner in their restaurant. This is a very popular pub restaurant that specialises in Indian cuisine. Whilst the usual British pub food is available, it is the quality of the Indian meals that stand out. Having travelled to India many times the food here is undoubtedly of a quality and range that comes much closer to the genuine thing, rather than the usual British version found in most UK based Indian restaurants. Benefitting from very hands on and friendly management the results speak for themselves. Very highly recommended.

Went for a family meal, which was 'fine' but far from GREAT. Staff were very friendly and helpful, but the food (when it eventually arrived) was very mediocre. We waited quite a long time for 2 very small pieces of chicken on a huge plate of basically raw onions. Chips which we were told were INCREDIBLE, were dull and unseasoned with some cheap tasting curry sauce on them. All in all, nice staff, slow service and lacklustre food. Won't be rushing back...

Cater for dogs and the views are exceptional. The weather was kind to us so sat outside for nearly 3 hours. Play park, sand pit, rockers and ride ons for toddlers. All in all amazing. There is an outside water tap but no other amenities after pub closes. Angela the landlady was very friendly in fact all the staff were very accommodating. The menu is quite varied and I suppose not what you would expect from a country pub, but the only thing you need to know is it was excellent as the photos depict. Great setting, plenty of outside seating next to a super kids play area! The food was very good, a mix of pub classics and Indian dishes, everything we had was very tasty. The only negative was the service, staff were overrun resulting in a 30 min wait for our order to be taken. It was a very busy early evening in the holidays, so might not be an issue at quieter times, but I feel this has to be expected in such a popular area. Sort this aspect and it'll be 5 stars no problem!

We were at the Okeover Arms for a 2 night stay. We enjoyed our stay as the staff were very friendly & welcoming. The only niggle was the lack of cereal/fruit at breakfast. The food on the whole, otherwise was good.

Sunday lunch with my extended family, there were 20 of us. Lovely staff, super space outside in the sun and delicious food. Generous portions of tasty, freshly prepared food.

We went a great meal here . The food was tasty and well presented . It was let down as no body came to ask if our meal was ok and had to look for someone to pay the bill .

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy
