Kostas Fish Shop and Cafe in Derbyshire Dales

We absolutely love the fish and chips here. So much so we travel from Leicester just to enjoy them when we have free time. Best fish and chips ever

We visited this shop recently and their fish and chips are really good and served with curry sauce or peas as per request. However the chips are less but it is more than enough for single person and it taste crisp and soft. Fish is so fresh and crisp as well. We also tried fish cake, which tasted fresh and good. They have more space to dine in... Both inside and outside, but so crowded during peak hours. The staffs are super friendly and serves very fast. Clean place.

A great fish and chip shop, amazing food, service and food. The portion size was massive and the quality was so good so glad we waited for a table it did not disappoint. Would highly recommend this chippy for the service and quality. Will definitely visit here again. Plenty of seating and selections for all. After seeing the size of the mini fish meal we didn’t need to get the bigger cod one but we managed it :-)

Lovely traditional Fish & Chips

Even when it is crowded, our food comes in a few minutes. Excellent fish and chips and friendly staff.

Coffee was very good. Sat outside in the Sunshine takin the piss.

Recently refreshed, new floor, tables, toilet, but still the same low priced, excellent fish n chips The homemade curry sauce us delicious too, as is the mushy peas Batter light n crispy, very yummy , very happy , frequent returning customer

Prices have gone up but portions gone smaller as well. Advertised price for Mini Fish is £4.50 but billed £7.50? Not happy as misleading customers, won't be coming back and will be telling friends not visit this place again, used to be good but now plain terrible.

Not wheelchair or pushchair friendly very cramped inside, food was nice but staff were not willing to help with accommodating our wheelchair user

Went yesterday, we always have ,battered sausage and chips. Sausage was nice but chips were horrible, cheep and horrible. I won't go back again. It used to be my best,but now they gone down the hill.

Regular visitor to Matlock Bath, and I find this the best chip shop.

This place is a must call in for me whenever I'm at Matlock on the bike or in the car great food and sit and watch all the bikes .

Highly recommend this place. Whenever I come to Matlock I always come back amazing food every time and lovely friendly staff always get a nice welcome never disappoints.

Best fish and chips in Matlock Bath

Had hot drinks from here whilst on a bike ride, sat outside in the sunshine and really enjoyed the atmosphere with lots of fellow bikers also enjoying the sun.

Really lovely and friendly staff upon arrival. The fish was absolutely beautiful. Perfectly cooked. Mushy peas spot on. Chips tasty.

One of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had. Felt like the fish was cooked to order and for a mini fish was the same size as most normal fish sizes. Really friendly staff and very clean

Beautiful large pure white cod with crunchy batter, and an ample amount of chips, proper mushy peas not tinned ones.

Visited Kostas Fish Bar on 18th Feb 2025,the man himself was serving and as always friendly and welcoming as are all his staff,totally refurbished since my last visit and looks fabulous,my girlfriend and i had a plate of chips which were delicious, will we be going again,YES.

Very friendly, huge portions cooked fresh, very tasty, good value. So good we went twice during our brief holiday and weren't disappointed.

Kostas is the reason I can say fish and chips is one of my best English meals. I’m an African and I’ve been struggling to get used to English meals but I can chest out and say if not kostas I wouldn’t have ever loved the fish and chips. I’m not buying from anywhere if not Kostas. 1000+++ for you guys 👍👍👍👍

Could easily be the best chip shop. We’ve visited many times over the years the years & never had a bad meal, consistently very good food. Always clean & very friendly genuine staff.

If you are in Matlock bath, you have to try a plate of chips here,, lovely and clean and the food is amazing, very helpful staff too

Lovely. Piping hot, really light batter, curry sauce was very flavourful. Mini fish and chips were a nice size , sausage in batter was lovely. Will definitely return.

Had a freshly cooked mini fish chips and peas meal deal and my mate went for the scampi meal deal. Both meals were lovely. Tried other chippies nearby and after reading the reviews we opted for Kostas this time. We weren't disappointed.

The food was lovely, freshly cooked fish with a light batter, just a few scraps of chips but on the whole very nice. The peas were tasty, and my man loved the gravy. Definitely going to return

Great food can get very busy, especially when the bikers are there (we love a matlock fish and chips).

We were recommended Kostas and it never disappointed. There's plenty of options to choose from. We had beautiful (or Bootifal, if you're from Suffolk) pieces of fish n chips here, all reasonably priced. It was straight out of the pan, good sizes and top quality. We chose to eat in, with a roll and cuppa. However you can eat outside or takeaway. Eating inside is nothing special, but the quality more than made up for this. Highly recommend..Thank you to the staff and fryers.

Best fish and chip shop in the UK I’ve been to so far which is amazing considering how much of the coast I’ve seen. Fish so perfectly cooked, perfect batter great friendly service too. Always head here if I’m in the area.

I love this place so much, they always give me a free pot of cheese bc its unfortunatley not on their uber site and left me a cute note last time thanking me for my support. I know how hard everyone works there and i appreciate all of them♥️you will not find a better local chippy

As my dog was present I was served with my takeaway order, very properly and politely, at the door. The reason that I have decided to write a review is that normally I am not a fan of chip shop chips, but these were excellent. Just a pity I had to share them with the dog!

Excellent cod and chips here after a walk from Matlock to Matlock Bath. Food was freshly cooked - just the right amount of batter on the fish (cod) and very tasty chips. Would definitely come here again.

Stopped for sausage, chips and curry sauce in my way further onto the peaks while on my motorbike, service was quick and friendly and reasonably priced.

Ordered through Uber eats, food arrived absolutely stone cold, soggy and the smallest portion of chips you’ve ever seen for £2.80!! Rang the shop, got an apology and the owner blamed the Uber driver,to be then told to go through Uber eats, as the shop couldn’t do anything about it. Uber eats not interested and gave me a £1.29 credit to my account for next time which is laughable! I live locally and will not use this chip shop again. Appalling customer service.

Best fish,chips and mushy peas I've had in years.

Nice fish & chips however ensure you ask for it skinned when ordering as the skin did put me off and wasn't asked if we preferred skin on or nowhere on the menu. Seating area full of screaming children would not recommend eating in. Toilet was dirty and had no toilet roll. I would recommend it for takeaway, as the group of bikers it attracts is off putting.

Seriously good fish and chips. Fish is freshly cooked in crisp batter that's not greasy at all. Chips are deliciously fried an have a beautiful fluffy texture.

Visiting Matlock bath for the very first time after a long drive and feeling hungry we googled best fish and chips here. Kostas was rated very highly amongst so many fish and chip places here. Not much to look like outside or in to be fair.Easily found a table and ordered 2 cod and chips and mushy peas not bad at just over £23 Verdict Cod was chunky and moist Batter could have been more crispier Chips were OK but again could be more crispier Mushy peas were delicious And you get a large size portion Overall good value for money 7.5/10

Awesome chippy great food and service

I visited with my family on Saturday 17th August, which there was 10 of us. Service was okay. Some of my family ordered first and received their food last even though me and partner ordered separately and paid last. So wasn’t very happy. We all had different things. We all had chips whereas some of us had sausage, battered sausage, cheeseburgers, fish, gravy and curry sauce. It wasn’t the best but we still ate it because it was edible. Once leaving Matlock a few hours later and getting home some of us came down with awful stomach pains and diarrhoea as well as a headache. My uncle and boyfriend who are both chefs said the gravy looked and tasted off and that says it all for a fish and chip shop if they can’t get that right! Considering this was the first time eating here, I WON’T be paying a visit again

Chose this place based on the great reviews and the fact that it looked full of happy customers from the outside. Very glad I did! All the staff were super friendly and helpful, especially the dark-haired man (owner/manager?), the whole place was really nice and clean and modern inside, and the food was amazing! Perfect chips, delicious fish, tasty sausage and gorgeous curry sauce. Excellent value too. We got a takeaway but the dine-in area looked great. Can't wait to return next time we visit Matlock Bath.

We visited with our grandson and from the very start were made to feel welcome. We requested extra plates and a mug to accommodate our grandson and all was given with an understanding nature. The food was well cooked and we all enjoyed it. Thank you all for your excellent service.

We have been here so many times we have lost count, Each time the fish n chips are cooked to order, great light crispy batter, lovely crispy ( not soggy) chips and nice mushy peas, homemade curry sauce also good Coffee particularly good says my husband, who is fussy with his coffee likes it strong and black We have had both lunchtime special £7 ( fish chops and mushy peas) and full priced fish n chips, although the full priced one, I can never finish, more like a mans plate

Stopped here for lunch as we walked around the area. With lots of competition in the area it was going to be interesting to see how they did. We went with the mini fish deal and the mini sausage deal and was pleasantly surprised at the portions, they definitely weren’t mini and were great value for money. The fish was lovely and fresh with a light batter and the curry sauce was perfect chip shop style. The sausage was very big with a nice crispy batter and we both agreed the chips were some of the best we’ve had.

Came here with my family from Nottingham. By far the best fish and chips I've had in whole of UK. The food was really good I had to get another one.

My daughter and I like going here for takeaway. Although I have not had the fish the chips are nice and the batter on the sausage is also good. Unfortunately they don't do steak and kidney pudding, only pies.🫤. Not too expensive
