Fantastic find, great little pub. Very friendly and helpful staff serving great quality food and drink at sensible prices.

We was a group of 10 booked in for Easter Sunday, from the communication on the phone to the service and food, Saz and her team were fantastic! Proper home cooked food, gravy to die for. Shame we don't live closer, will definitely visit again.

New to the area and took a chance bringing a work colleague out - excellent freshly cooked food despite being the first ones in, good drinks selection, friendly staff and very sensibly priced. 4 pints and food came to <£50

We went to Darley Dale for 3 days and ate here both Friday night and for Sunday lunch. Sara and her whole team are so lovely and welcoming. Feels like a home from home. The steak pie on the Friday night was incredible which is what made us go back for Sunday lunch which is just as lovely. They found out that we were there for my birthday and they even bought us out some cake. Our spaniel also absolutely loved it. It’s a shame that we don’t live closer to visit more often. Thanks guys! X

What a great little find. Homely with lovely open fire and the home cooked food is fantastic. Sarah the chef/owner is so lovely and friendly that we’ll be back although won’t be for a while as we live in Colchester. Her regulars were very friendly too. Thank you Sarah.

After being at the Chatsworth Christmas fair we called in as a party of 8 for lunch ....extremely friendly staff lovely open fire and excellent food 👌

Great traditional pub with proper grub. Ordered Sara's homemade steak pie and OMG it took me back to my childhood - proper pastry, tender beef and homemade chips with lashings of rich gravy. This place is a must if you like a traditional pub.

Had a facelift when new landlords took over the pub. Much better & unpretentious and good pints also reasonable too! Good food, especially the pie! Have a big rear garden too. 👍

Reasonably priced food menu and nice garden area outside when its sunny. Dog friendly too. Access to popular old railway line now a walking/cycling trail.

First visit to this pub won’t be the last. Nice location next to the old railway tracks. Plenty of parking. Plenty of space inside to eat. Lunchtime visit chose the chicken curry which was very good excellent quality and great taste, my wife had the chilli con carne again great quality and plenty of heat / spice. Another plus for me 80’s music playing during my visit 😀👍 Highly recommend this pub will visit again when in the area.

Ate here tonight, sat in spacious beer garden behind the pub. Very tasty homemade lasagna, and a scumptious jacket potato piled high with chilli. Really good value. Friendly place, would love this to be our local but we're just on holiday in the area.

Ordered Sunday lunch. Chicken was like boot leather & the gravy was just pure salt. Ordered a ‘hot’ fudge cake with ice cream & it was cold & stale. Drinks on the other hand were fine

Great pub alongside the railway line. 3 real ales and at least 3 lagers to choose from. Had pub burger with chips which was delicious. Definitely worth a visit

Lovely stop off when returning from Bakewell, or on walk from Matlock. Unfortunately not tried food yet

Lovely garden and you can watch the steam trains roll past … really nice stop on a gentle walk along the path by the track.

We had Sunday lunch here when visiting our daughter who lives nearby. It was quite honestly the best roast beef dinner. All home made, potatoes perfectly roasted, parsnips yum, gravy perfection - in fact everything was delicious. So much effort is going in to making a success of this recently reopened pub and I hope lots of people try it out. They will not be disappointed.

caravaning in the erea and The Church Inn was our local.We received a very warm welcome and the young bar man was a credit to the pub.We returned on the Sunday for lunch and we wasn't disappointed .Food was beautiful credit to their chef,we definitely will be back and would definitely recommend to others.Very dog friendly which was a lovely bonus.

Lovely welcoming local pub I'm new to the area and thought I'd try the locals and I must say out of them all this will defo be my first choice ,the landlord very chatty and nothing was too much trouble even treats available for my dog and the landlady was a lovely lady very chatty and made me feel so welcome as a new comer to the area . The food was very tasty and good priced too see u soon

I’d like to say the new landlord and landlady are a credit to this warm and welcoming pub there such a lovely couple and within a few weeks have totally turned this pub around making it very cosy and a true village pub the new decor compliments the pub with its log burners and cosy atmosphere . Me and my partner and dog will definitely be back and will bring along our friends and family

So pleased to be able to visit during the first week of reopening. The drink selection was v good and well presented. The Tim Taylors Landlord, Hobgoblin Gold and Guinness were all excellent. It deserves to survive! We must cycle past and drop in again before too long✅️

No food, so ate elsewhere. Nice location for local walks or a cycle ride, which can be largely traffic_free. Sign says 'to let' so watch this space.

Best pub in Derbyshire I love this little pub it is my go to place when I’m feeling low I was raised in this pub as a child that sounds bad no I actually lived there my mum was the landlady back in the 80s I took my daughter in there to show her around the other night and things all look very similar I think little quaint pubs like this need to stay just like that as they are. Brought back loads of memories was talking to the landlord about my childhood and he said some of the locals are probably still in here ha ha so if you’re looking for a good friendly atmosphere and nice pint in the Derbyshire Dales then look no further than the church in in Darley Dale it feels like home from the minute you walking no matter who you are.

Fantastic little pub! Very friendly and efficient service with a personal touch. Our car broke down just down the road and the James could not do enough to help us. The beer was very well kept and at a very reasonable price. If you are in the area, this is an absolute gem and highly recommended. Great outside area too!

First time in the Church Inn and met a lovely group of people that get together on a Tuesday. I was made very welcome and asked if I wanted to share in there buffet ,it was like we had been going in for year's . Best pub we've been in for a long time that made us feel at home from the start xx Dotty..x

Lovely little place where everyone knows everyone. A couple of dogs (in the dog-friendly half), a wood-burning stove and friendly locals & staff makes it feel like you're at home in a friend's lounge. On a practical note, it takes card/contactless and no food in the evenings besides bar snacks.

The pub has recently been taken over by a new lanlord who is a local, popular man. They serve a good range of real ales which change frequently. Often there is live music and for warmer weather a large beer garden next to the steam railway line.

This is a small local old fashioned pub. Excellent beer, and a small menu of pub grub, but what we had was delicious. The beef and chicken burgers are super, the scampi was good and the chilli was good but quite spicy hot. We called in for lunch on a dreadful wet day and it was a lovely stop walking along the trail. It’s is dog and child friendly, and they have music in the evenings. It’s nice to see pubs like this as so many have been lost. Keep up the good work.

Whilst staying in the area we had a lunch & a dinner (on separate days) and thoroughly enjoyed them both. The food is of a good quality and very good quantity. Friendly staff and good service. We would definitely go back there again if we were in the area.

Not my type of place at all.Bar service was poor and little choice of Ales and ciders.Madonna playing quite loudly the whole time we were there.I felt it was a pub frequented by locals for locals.Sorry but I feel there a much nicer places that suit our preference so we would not return. No sign of any bar menu.

... with a good atmosphere. Lovely seating around outside, just across the road which runs next to the cycle path, so it's safe to let your children cycle on whilst you enjoy a beer.

I decided to stop at the church Inn for some lunch which I knew had been good under previous management and priced good as well. The pub opened late after 12pm and contrary to the signage I was offered bar snacks but no Sunday lunch! Maybe the new owner needs time to settle Inn and the pub as had good reviews but I rendered the quaint pub being packed with Sunday lunches!

Quite a small pub but people inside were friendly and included us in their weekly event of 'Play your Cards Right' Cider was lovely! Bar staff could have been more amenable to outsiders. Served it's purpose but would probably not go again.

Recently under new management and cleaned throughout you cant beat it as a small cosy village pub with loads of character. Plenty of good beers and lagers all served by nice staff and comfortable seating, well worth a visit.

What a great evening, great laid back, inclusive atmosphere. The players were very good, a range of music was played and enjoyed by all. And the beer was fantastic, including locals ales, all well kept. Thank you Jason, you have breather life back into this...

At last, after being closed for a long time, we have a great new tenant, a real Landlord, Jason. As he is just arrived, no cooked food is available, but will be in a few months. Ther beer is good, and atmosphere is very welcoming and warm. Thank you Jason!

Stumbled across this old fashioned little gem today. Beautiful little cottage type pub, serves some real ales. Manageress very friendly, made me feel very welcome. Very near to train tracks, steam trains run once an hour! No other trains run so its very picturesque. Only down side, is it doesn't serve food at the moment, although I'm told it used to do, and may do again at some point in the future. One big plus point - well behaved dogs are welcome inside!!!

Been regulars here for some time and always had a fabulous home cooked sunday carvery. Under new management now and decided to give it a try, but have to say it was very disappointing. No carvery, plated meal but not got a problem with that. Came pretty quick , presentation was poor, the broccoli was overcooked mush, overcooked carrots, a few tiny new potatoes , 2 small dry peices of turkey, no stuffing and frozen roast potatoes and yorkshire pud and it tasted very bland. No sauces such as cranberry offered, and very small size meal, we dont eat huge portions but its the first time I've ever come away from there still hungry. I think they need to cook and present their food better if they want to keep customers and need to make sure its home cooked, I don't eat frozen at home and don't expect that when I go out, its lazy cooking. Unfortunatley wont be going back, there's too many places locally who do fabulous home cooked Sunday lunches.

A weekend away with friends - and it started with a real treat - pie and chips with peas - proper home made pie - chicken ham and leek - such great value - well and then there was the pudding - jam roly poly - with custard - great portions.A set the the backdrop of a local darts match. £2.90 for a sweet - beat that.

My golden rule is never have a curry in an English establishment........well I broke this rule last Thursday night........their curry night! Just fancied one......what a mistake.....it was awful.......like dish water and the same consistency.It so happens that the owners were leaving the following Saturday, so we''ll try it again once the new management get settled.The pub itself has great character and the locals are really friendly..........more in a few weeks.

Just on our way home from hols when we popped in on pie night. What a fabulous meal! Generous sized portion too. Would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a traditional pub meal. My only complaint would be we were too stuffed to sample the puddings!

Stopped off at this pub for a drink in the middle of a bike ride. Very disappointing service, had to wait a very long time for drinks, and people that had just walked in were served quicker than us. To be fair we were a large group (11) but only four people approached the bar.
