Arthur's in Derbyshire Dales

I have been going to Arthurs for 35 years and have enjoyed their world famous Bootmill sandwiches for years which makes it painful for me to now give this place 2 stars, which is being generous. I know times are tough amd costs are up everywhere, but one thing you should never do is compromise the integrity of the product. The Bootmills I got yesterday looked lile mini sliders to the Bootmills of years ago. Hardly any homefried potatoes, a very small egg, and hardly any bacon on my sandwich. I ate two sandwiches and felt lile they were half the size, and now triple the price. They definitely are nowhere near the size of past sandwiches and if it means putting more homefries, which is potato and very cheap, you need to do something to justify the price and restore the sandwich to what it once was, the king of breakfast sandwiches and the icon of the Bootmill city.

Ived Missed Having Bootmills From Arthurs Diner. I stopped by with my little one yesterday it brought back many Great Memories from when I was young. We Ordered the guys working there where really nice,food was good as always. Thank You

Got my usual doubles for me mom n pops , and was disappointed in the 2 Pieces of ham and all potatoes, paid for Xtra cheese which wasn't applied.. and only 2 other people in store ...hope next time I'll hope for atleast what I've ordered , and 25 bucks is what it is , but was still Decent...over 20+ year's been my spot, And I'll simply ask kindly next visit for some love. All love fellas!

Love that this old diner is still going strong. Haven’t had a boot mill since I was in High School but it certainly hit the spot for me.

Absolutely the best bootmill sandwich 💞 for all that don't know what it is.. it's egg, choice of meat. My favorite is bacon . Home fries. Cheese. All cooked to perfection on a bulkie roll... Served by some of the finest young men that are very polite and professional.. In the cutest old trolley car at the old boot mills of downtown Lowell ..

They don't pick up phone order on the weekend. Came before few people just to order two sandwich, they put a local of family that gives 10 orders first while waiting for pancake and French toast stuff which took them 10+ minute to make....my sandwiches took about less than 3 minutes to make but I had to wait for 25 minutes.

The Boott Mill sandwich here is fantastic. The diner also has a great atmosphere.

I worked for a computer firm in the eighties, ate at Paradise diner many times. The servers are a little cold, but the food was homemade and always good. You could not beat the price. I've had food poisoning in the fast food burger joints in Lowell, and would recommend people eat at The Paradise. Arthur always had a smile on face, which made me feel good.

Our bedroom window overlooks the diner; we could probably throw a ball and nail it. We've been here for almost a year, but hadn't visited the diner until this morning. Walking over just seemed too easy and nothing on the menu makes you feel like it's a "have to" experience. We've been all over New England and nothing seemed to feel more like Massachusetts than Arthur's. It's family owned and operated and that's apparent through the door. If you grab a seat at the bar, you'll see first hand how smooth that operation is. Service is fast and friendly even in what must be a high stress environment. Atmosphere is super cool. From the outside you can't imagine how they could possibly prep and serve full meals, let alone there be space to enjoy them. ..but there is. We got bootmills. My girlfriend with sausage, mine no meat. It's egg and cheese and potato. They'll ask you if you want mayo and/or hot sauce. She also got a tea for a buck. The whole deal was $15, cash only. Big value here. Simple food done really well. If you're not on foot, the Joseph Downes parking garage is a block over. $11/day to park. No bathrooms on site. Without having visited all breakfast joints in Lowell, I might still say that this is the best one.

I recently moved from Chicago to Lowell and it hasnt been easy finding a great and unique spot to have breakfast. This place doesnt look like much, but the fellas running this operation know how to make one tasty sandwich (Boott Mill Sand. w/Bacon is definately my favorite). The pancakes/french toast come in a close second and thrid. The service is second to none. I am always greeted immediatly and the wait is never more than10 mins from the time the order is placed. I frequent there once a week and there has never been an issue with my order. When my wife and I have visitors from out of town I make sure this is the first stop for breakfast. Did i mention that the Boott Mills Sandwich is absoultly freakin delicious.

Nobody picks up the phone. One of the three things I ordered was wrong. Wasn’t told it was cash only. Called back but, no one answers the phone.

Really cool little diner with nice employees. They have then best bacon in my opinion, we went twice and it was amazing both times.

This dinner would have had a rating of 4 1/2 stars but doesn't allow, but back to the dinner been going for over 20yr and still has great food thank you Arthur's dinner keep up the good work

Got the French Toast with butter, it was a pretty good service size. It was delicious, I enjoyed it!!! Looking forward to going again!!

We were greeted cheerfully! We took a booth seat. This place is nostalgic for sure. It's an old train car. We ordered 2 Boott Mills Sandwiches: one with bacon, and one with sausage, and our daughter got french toast with butter. It was suggested that I try my sausage Boott with hot sauce and it was delicious! Coffee was alright, and my husband and daughter had a bottle of o.j. too. Our daughter said her french toast was good. The Boott is a breakfast sandwich with home fried style potatoes, fried egg, cheese, and choice of meat served on a soft, white bun. It was popular too! The place was selling Bootts like mad. If you get the chance to try it, you should. You can order ahead and pick up your Boott too.

The bootmills aren't quite as top notch as they once were but this is still the go-to location for breakfast located in the heart of Lowell.

Home cooked breakfast for us locals. Visitors and anyone passing through, You haven't been to Lowell MA unless you have eaten here!!!

It IS just for breakfast anymore. This is the place for breakfast in New England. Free coffee, and the Boot Mill breakfast sandwich, cooked with your choice of meat on a seasoned griddle served on a bulky roll that's toasted right under the griddle. Closes at noon on the weekends.

Lovely Sunday lunch but the only thing that lacked was the friendliness of the staff. We took our dog in (as stated on the sign) yet they were reluctant to let us sit down. Food was so nice! The interior is lovely and there is real potential.

The food was excellent but we found it disappointing that simple menu choices had been made unavailable.On a very quiet evening we (as a couple) found ourselves stuck in the middle of the restaurant when muchnicer alternative tables sat unoccupied on the outskirts of the room. Having said all that the service was of a good standard and unobtrusive. GVFM.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here on New Year's Eve. Food was delicious & a very good wine list. Nice to have good respite between courses. Prosecco on arrival was very welcome as were canapés & a delicious sorbet!Service was friendly & efficient. Would recommend

We can't praise the chefs and owners enough for the high quality of everything on our plates, lamb roast and burger. The meat was excellent, in a class more akin to a Michelin star, and of a quality you are more likely to find in France or Italy. All vegetables were fresh and served/cooked properly, great attention to taste detail, nothing too excessive or mismatched. All superbly balanced. Facilities very clean. Staff very helpful and polite. We'll go back but if this secret gets out it will be bookings for meals. Really well done all of you. Best meal out in a very long time. Caps are doffed! Keep your priorities just where they are!

Yummy love diners , good pancakes

We have now been to Arthur's twice. Once for a straight meal and once for the special Beaujolais dinner. Both times the food has been excellent and we've really had a good evening. The wine also comes as a carafe which suits us as we find a whole bottle is too much. We would highly recommend that you try this restaurant which makes a nice change to pub dining.

First time eating samphire, asparagus and fish - would have that combination again. Good portion sizes of dishes, 2 courses, just right. Walked in from the rain, left dry and happy.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. It is a very relaxed setting and all of the staff were very friendly. The food was delicious, plenty of it but in particular we would recommend the lamb. We couldn't resist the puddings! We will definitley be going back.

My girlfriend left a reasonably nice 4 star review on here which complimented the food and critiqued a couple of aspects of the service. The management response was extremely rude to her, stating that another member of our party was rude, which they weren't and making out that she was lying and they had to move us at a "loss to the business" (I don't think I saw anyone else enter the restaurant after us and it definitely was not very busy so no business was lost moving us from a table of 3 to a table of 4). Would have eaten here again as the food was lovely but definitely will never be coming here again after such disappointing service with the staff who are quite frankly rude and too full of themselves. Never had this experience with staff at a restaurant before and it has tarnished what was supposed to be a special evening.

We booked this place for dinner on the strength of the once excellent reviews - but our experience matched a number of the more recent posts about this place. There was not a trace of warmth in the welcome or the service; we waited a long time for the food (which was of good quality); and we came away very disappointed with the experience. Would not go again.

Visited Arthur’s on a Thursday lunchtime. First impressions were good, very modern decor with plenty of seating. There were only three tables occupied during our visit which meant the place did lack atmosphere, I imagine this would be a completely different story on a busy evening.

We had a nice meal at Arthur's. The atmosphere was comfortable and the food and drink very good and reasonably priced.

Having read reviews about Arthur's and the majority of good reviews, I can relate to a previous poster as being the "unlucky ones" as I feel like we were particularly unlucky the evening we went to Arthur's. Upon arrival, we were sat in the 'lobby' area even though we had booked a table and I thought we would be sat in the nicer area of the restaurant. As we approached the table I asked if we could move into the nicer bit and the waiter said there were no tables for three in there, which I thought was a bit abrupt and did not go and see if there was anything they could do. The nicer area was not packed and there were at least four tables unoccupied. Another person of our party had to up and ask for the waiter to see what he could do. We were finally moved to another table in a nice area. Towards the end of the evening, my boyfriend had to go up and ask for some more drinks as no one had come to our table for a while and the same waiter who served us at the beginning seemed clueless.

We visited on a busy Saturday night so I did expect to wait. We ordered our drinks and a while later ordered our food it took about 45mins for our starter. In total we were there for just over 2 hours. However it was nice not to be rushed and we had nothing else to do. The food was good quality and we did enjoy it however we though the service let them down.

Enjoyed two visits to Arthur’s during a recent stay in Bakewell. We enjoyed our first visit so much we were keen to go again. It was even better the second time! Excellent food, good service in stylish surroundings where the tables are not on top of one another. Would highly recommend.

What a great place to eat. We stumbled upon this restaurant in one of the main streets in Bakewell. Don’t be put off by thinking there’s no one in there - it’s just the shape of the building. Go down to the bottom of the restaurant and make a right turn into the restaurant. A gastronomic delight awaits you on their fabulous menu. We had the Sunday lunch which was very tasty and hot! Eton Mess followed which was handmade in the kitchen - not from a catering pack! The owners are great to talk to and work hard to ensure your visit is memorable. We will be back.

A short and pleasant stay in Bakewell and this was the best meal we had. Not an extensive menu but a good selection. My choice of the lamb main course was superb. A very pleasant atmosphere in a roomy restaurant - which is a surprise after seeing the small frontage. Not cheap, but good value considering the quality of the food, and good service. Strongly recommended.

Fantastic environment with friendly staff, they were very accommodating when one of our party did not want raw onions in the food. The food was delicious, very fresh and full of flavour. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

It was a delight to eat at Arthur's. The menu offered a wide range of main courses but my friends and I all chose the slow cooked lamb. We weren't disappointed. It was succulent and delicious served with new potatoes, kale, green beans and red cabbage. Everything was beautifully cooked and so tasty. We'd return next week if we were local but sadly we're not. Lovely atmosphere and very pleasant waitresses.

We managed to secure a table last minute at Arthurs, on a recent visit to Bakewell. We enjoyed quality service, great food and as a bonus a tasty rare cider! Well impressed, Trip Adviser ranking wasn't wrong, a real winner.

Tried this restaurant mid week in the summer with no need to book. The restaurant was not busy and the internal decor is comfortable but not luxurious. There is a reasonable choice on the menu with options to suit most tastes and those with special dietary needs. The service was good, timely and polite although one of our main courses was unexpectedly delayed some time after the others. There is a bar with a good choice of beers and wines.

Lovely restaurant and bar with superb food. Visited with my husband , teenage daughter in a Saturday evening. We ate in the bar area as we had our dogs with us and were not disappointed. The service was excellent and extremely friendly. The menu is not massive but has a great variety to suit all tastes. I had the chicken and king prawn tagliatelle which was delicious, my husband had the pork tomahawk which was a special and daughter had the burger with smoked cheese and bacon. Food is really well presented and reasonably priced for the quality. They have a great cocktail menu and tasty deserts. Would definitely visit again.

Staff were friendly and welcoming when we entered the restaurant, and we were seated straight away. I had the hummus and chutney for starter, which was great and just the right portion size you would want for a starter (also a nice vegan option). For my starter I had the smoked burger with chips which was absolutely fantastic and left me feeling very satisfied, a great choice. Overall the experience was very enjoyable, the food arrived in a timely manner and was great quality for a reasonable price, will be going again.

We were in the area and fancied a roast. What we got was excellent - roast lamb and roast beef plus all the usuals. Really nicely cooked meat and (even better) nicely cooked veggies. With a pint of Thornbridge IPA and a glass of an unusual Italian red it was great. The cocktail listing looks good too....maybe next time?

Came here based on TripAdvisor reviews, and we were not disappointed! Good range of drinks, and lovely Sunday roast. ~£35 for two roasts and drinks.

We chose Arthur’s based on its many positive and glowing Trip Advisor reviews and it certainly lived up to expectations! Beautifully cooked, tender fillet steak, succulent shoulder of lamb, followed by luscious Eton Mess and Chocolate & orange cheesecake - we couldn’t ask for more. We’re staying in the area for a few days and we’ll definitely dine here again.

Went for a family meal on holiday in bakewell. Despite there being 8 of us and we hadn’t pre-ordered, we experienced excellent service and food was great. Great cocktails too.

Four of us stayed three nights in Bakewell recently and we had a wonderful meal at Arthur's on our first night. So much so, that we returned on our last evening and had a similar experience. This restaurant is just sixteen months old and the young owners deserve every success in the future.

I had a meeting in Derbyshire on Thursday 4th July and called at Bakewell on my way through. My objective was the cake shop Thirza & Walter next door but I called in at Arthur's for lunch. It was all very pleasant and I can highly recommend the Kofte! I'll be back first opportunity.

Hubby and I have literally just finished one of the best meals we have ever eaten.

Went here on a Friday night as a last minute choice. Food was lovely and the staff were brill. Could not do enough for you. Atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Went here for a birthday meal with my wife. Service was a little slow. When the starter arrived mushrooms the portion was small. The main, lamb and tagliatelle was okay but again rather small portions. What put us off was a man vaping in the restaurant unchallenged by staff. We won't be going to Arthur's again.
