If like us you enjoy seafood the chef Michael Smith takes it to another level. The dining room is small and the service is excellent. Location following a drive along the single track road (care needed in the dark to avoid wandering sheep and deer) is excellent with easy parking. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table by the window which gave us plenty of space. The menu is set so all diners receive the same five courses but arrival times are staggered so this works well. All in all the evening was pretty perfect and when we return to Skye another visit is in order.

Did not disappoint!! The restaurant is small and intimate, tucked away at the end of charming Loch Bay. We hustled in out of a squall to a glowing fireplace and a very warm welcome from the (2 person) waitstaff. The food was fantastic. All the courses were beautifully prepared and presented. Flavors and sauces perfect. We very much enjoyed this dining experience. Highly recommend!!

Certainly not what I’d expect from a Michelin 1* restaurant. Overly relaxed atmosphere with loud music, rushed service (despite a maximum of 16 seats), and not good value for money. The waiters never even introduced themselves and provided no information about the wine other than the name. As to the food, which is obviously the most important ingredient of a culinary experience…I found it mostly unremarkable, and for a four course fish-focused tasting menu, the portions were too large and too many flavors per dish. My favorites, however, were the bread, the scallops and dessert course. Would not repeat or recommend. One note: the drive to the restaurant is on a multi-mile uneven, pothole-filled single-track road. Which, given the darkness when your tasting menu is complete is nightmarish.

The restaurant is small and intimate but the atmosphere is very relaxed. This is led by the front of house staff, who were excellent. The food was absolutely fantastic, I couldn't fault any course and you were always looking forward to the next course and what it would be like. It is expensive, but it was worth every penny.

Very happy we chose to dine at Loch Bay Restaurant. The dining room is intimate, but comfortable, and the quality of the dishes was superb. We appreciated that while the food was beautifully-presented, the portions were also large enough to thoroughly enjoy the flavors unlike some other tasting menu restaurants where is dishes can be a bit too "precious." The service was friendly and competent, but somewhat inconsistent between the two servers waiting on our table (i.e., one of our servers gave no explanation as to the cheeses on the cheese plate whereas the other server was observed to give such explanation to another table). Nonetheless, our dinner here was a highpoint of our visit to Skye and we would gladly return again.

This a destination restaurant in a small remote village in the north of Skye. You need to plan your visit and your accommodation well in advance. The Stein Inn next door has excellent rooms. In the Loch Bay the small dining room creates a warm and friendly atmosphere. The food was top notch as you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. The meal is all seafood based, creatively presented and with varied flavours. I al really pleased that we went however it is long way to go for a repeat visit.

We loved our dinner at Loch Bay. The restaurant was in a beautiful location (although what isn’t beautiful on Skye). Very intimate seating-only six tables. The service was delightful and seamless. Delicious and spectacular courses kept appearing with lovely descriptions from the wait staff. This may be a Michelin star restaurant but it felt comfortable and fun. One surprising dish after another and the presentation was beautiful. Dinner included several items caught in the bay out front that morning. Every single item served was delicious. If you enjoy seafood this restaurant is a very special treat. Thank you for a very memorable dinner.

The food and service was outstanding. Quietly confident without pomp & stiffness. The background music was great. Added to the unpretentious ambiance. The wine list was good and extremely good value unlike some Michelin establishments. Using local ingredients which haven’t been mucked about with too much to let the flavours shine through. If I lived closer I’d be a regular for sure. Thank you Loch Bay team for a wonderful experience.

Interesting drive to get to the restaurant for sure. The meal was great. Not too much modern cuisine trickery a lot of Michelin star restaurants use nowadays. Just excellent quality and fresh ingredients prepared wonderfully to let the ingredients shine. If I could make two remarks. The wooden benches we sat on were not comfortable for a relatively long dinner. I would have enjoyed a bit more explanation with each wine from our wine pairing.

If you have a seafood allergy or simply dislike fish, read no further because this review is a paean of praise for a chef who prepares shellfish and fresh fish in ways you would never have thought possible. From the freshly baked bread with smoked mackerel butter topped with caviar through the scallops, prawns, mussels, clams, hake, monkfish and baby lobster, every mouthful produces a delicious series of flavours like no other. The restaurant is small and intimate and, on the evening we were there, hosted a truly international clientele. The atmosphere is warm, the service is friendly and the pace is well judged. My main regret is that is so far from our home that we are unable to visit on a regular basis.

Loved it! We were a bit nervous about booking a Michelin starred place and didn’t know what to expect, but when we arrived we were made to feel so comfortable it was like we were in someone’s living room with old friends. I love that the staff are casual in jeans and trainers yet know their stuff. The food was outstanding. Every time I think back I change my mind what my favourite course was. The biggest surprises for me were the oyster pre-starter, because I’ve never enjoyed an oyster before, and the rhubarb tart dessert, because it was just phenomenal! We went for the wine flight and loved the interesting choices, and particularly the white Rioja served with the pot au feu of prawns pairing blew my mind. The French lady serving us was absolutely fantastic, as was the young guy with her. Even the music!! Loch Bay has totally changed what we think about fine dining - in a good way! We will return.

We visited Loch Bay recently for my birthday as I love seafood. Ww booked and paid in advance the £140 per person and were looking forward to our visit immensely. Unfortunately we had car trouble on route and had to walk part of the way in freezing weather and this and the worry re car situation (restaurant is very remote) detracted from the experience which is no fault of Loch Bay, in fact they were helpful, booked us a taxi to get us back to our accommodation, gave us the number of a garage etc and offered to help the next day if required so fair play to the staff. The food itself was lovely and fresh. The textures and flavours were very good. Started with bread with smoked crowdie and caviar. Nice way to start. Then came baked oyster and a small dish of what I think was smoked fish soup, lovely anyway. Then came the scallops. One cured in citrus, the other seared to perfection. A delightful dish. Prawn dish followed the scallops and these were also great. Next up cod, clams and mussels. The cod was perfect and the mussels and clams presented in a razor clam shell. Lobster and monkfish was next and again very nice. Desert followed, I chose the sweet but cheese was an option. The tart was delightful. Truffles rounded off an excellent meal where many of my favourite ingredients had been presented in a beautiful and innovative way by the excellent and well thought of chef. Next was the expensive taxi back and worry about how to sort car in morning but overall a very enjoyable meal, spoiled a bit by the worry of getting car fixed. I'd possibly have marked as a 5 if we had no stress but couldn't fully relax and enjoy as we'd have hoped. We'd like to return some day hopefully. The 140 pounds is steep but it is a lovely experience and if you like seafood you should give it a try.

Overall, we were glad to have made the journey & will definitely visit again in the near future. Service was excellent, with good timing of each course. A far less formal affair than I expected. Waiters in trainers and a very relaxed atmosphere. Small but with good service and some attention to detail (though some room for improvement in terms of table service maybe). The layout doesn’t lend itself to great serving of plates as I had to be lent over for my husband to be given his meal each course. And having plates stacked up in front of me while trying to chat was a little distracting. The menu was varied and what we had we all agreed tasted very good. Drinks and food were well curated by the waiters and while not exceptional, for the cost, it was a lovely evening.

Some say that to travel hopefully is better than to arrive. Our journey to the restaurant involved a 90-minute drive in soggy, windy weather; for those not used to driving on single-track roads, this may prove a shock. The car park just beyond the restaurant has adequate space. Stepping into the restaurant was akin to stepping into someone's front room: the restaurant could seat, I estimated, no more than twenty-two diners. The welcome was warm and service prompt.Having made a very good start, the food arrived and our tastebuds soon confirmed that to arrive was well worth while! All three diners in our party enjoyed three excellent courses and we were pleasantly surprised by the bill at the end. The staff were excellent and looked after us faultlessly.Quality of ingredients and taste of the dishes are obviously paramount here. Michelin stars are, rightly, awarded to establishments with a wide range of styles, and I have been fortunate enough to dine at several. The standard of food and service here has certainly merited Loch Bay's first. We'll be back – and we're looking forward to it!

We loved our dinner here. Best seafood chowder - small portion - I have ever had. Lobster too was amazing. There were two dishes that seemed to have similar sauces which on a tasting menu seemed like a shame but that is a TINY quibble. Service was warm and both attentive and casual - which worked as a combination. Really fun, delicious, special - but not stuffy - meal.

Michael Smith has a very deft touch. Modern cooking based on classical techniques using the best of local ingredients. It’s the perfect formula for a small, rural restaurant. The food is certainly centre stage here, but not in a showy way. Good value for the quality, and friendly, u unfussy but professional service.

We were based in the Glendale area about 40 minutes away. Booked here as always wanted to go . We came for lunch 2 courses at about £30 or 3 courses for £34. We had the 3 courses and each course has 3 options- 1 which was vegetarian for me. Some bread and scones came with a butter and a mackerel pate to nibble on with tap, still or sparkling water. The water glasses are etched by a local artist and worth an extra look. We had a glass of white wine each at about £8 a chardonnay and a Sauvignon blanc. We had for hubby the Smokey bree a thick rich fish soup, the Loch Bay Bourride (hake and squid) and the Chocolate & amaretti Delice with berries and ginger and lemon ice cream. I had Safron & Rosemary Panisse with shaved fennel and citrus fruit ( so light and tasty), Roast cauliflower with spiced pulses, grains, seeds and tahini dressing ( a orchestra in the mouth) and the Clootie dumpling with whisky cream and custard ( like a cloud and I so want to try the souffle now!). Coffee with shortbread rounded off a superb meal.Highly recommend a trip here and worth the long drive.

It’s always scary taking foodie friends to our favourite restaurant. We needn’t have worried. We opted for the taster menu, which we definitely prefer. Every course was made and prepared with love but without being overcomplicated or pretentious. Difficult to choose a favourite course but the scallops were much discussed. Obviously, the location is amazing but when you step into this restaurant you are entering a place that is incredibly special. Not at all surprised that Michael and his team retained the Michelin star.

We had the tasting menu option and it was great. Perfect proportions. These tasting menus can be a little overwhelming but this one was perfect. The only thing lacking is a good pastry chef.

Visited her with three friends last month and had a meal to remember, great setting, wonderful food expertly prepared and well worth the 7 hours round trip.

We were staying on the opposite side of the island, and our table was late, so getting to and from the restaurant was quite an experience! But once we were there the service, food and general atmosphere were exactly what you'd expect of a michelin star place.

Wonderful meal in a gorgeous little restaurant. We were looked after so well and the fish taster menu was definitely well worthy of the Michelin Star.

We stayed at a B&B; in Hallin. Never thought and expected to have a restaurant that serve great food, personable staff and quaint ambience. Perfect and deserving of a star!

I can't remember when I last enjoyed a meal as much. Everything about this lunch was perfect. Mid week, mid October, wet and windy outside. But inside is a little gourmet haven which you honestly wouldn't expect to find in quite such a remote location. It is so relaxed, no stuffiness at all. Everyone chatting and clearly having fun. Excellent service and brilliant food. It's rare to eat a meal where every course is of the same high standard and every element on every plate is equally successful and delicious.I take my hat off to the chef and thank him for giving me and my husband such a memorable experience. Now all I have to persuade him to do is to give me the recipe for clootie dumpling...!

Each time we come to this restaurant we're impressed by the relaxed feel, friendly front-of-house team and the food! From the nibbles with aperitifs to the clootie dumpling everything our group ordered was fresh, deceptively simple and spot on. Just brilliant!

Throughout the evening my husband kept asking me not to keep repeating the word delicious. So I will sum up the entire experience with the words 'Devine' and 'Exquisite'!

We booked this restaurant well in advance of our annual trip to Skye. Stein is a very picturesque spot and has a quaint fishing village feel.

Great evening and food. We had the late seating at 8.30 pm and arrived on the dot. It was high time in the restaurant and the two waiting staff were curt but polite and asked us to please wait for the table to be re-set. They certainly were juggling serving the dining customers and prepping the free tables for the second turnover, but they remained calm and efficient. Once seated, we did get a friendly apology and a „wee chat“ on our Skye visit. Very professional handling. We had the seafood tasting menu: the quality, creativity and harmony of tastes of each one of the courses was excellent and the Scottish touch was noticable We truly enjoyed the evening - it lived up to our expectation on a Michelin starred restaurant, I highly recommend and look forward to returning on one of our next trips.

We booked our trip to Skye around this restaurant and were not disappointed. The restaurant is small, cosy and unpretentious and deserves its Michelin Star rating. We had the Seafood Taster Menu, which was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff, from the top down, were friendly and professional and, when we mentioned it was a special occasion for us, we were invited into the kitchen to meet Michael. Truly special.

We have a delicious afternoon tea at The Snug today. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing. Lots of thought is put into the afternoon tea with a great choices of sandwiches, yummy homemade sausage roll, scone and lots of delicious sweet treats. I would highly recommend this just make sure to book in advance because obviously this needs to be prepared. Excellent value for money. Great atmosphere too.

We didn’t have a booking but the restaurant fitted us in which we really appreciated. We were not disappointed the food was exceptional and so was the service. The menu is small, but perfect. We all ordered a different main course and none of us were disappointed. I have a starter again, beautiful and the rest of the party a dessert again fantastic. The complimentary soup was a nice touch too. It was the first evening of our stay and it could not have been any better. A really great restaurant. Thank you.

On our holiday in Glenelg we popped into this cafe, which is popular with both locals and visitors. We only had coffee, but the food on offer looked very tasty. The owner was very friendly and helpful. There is ample parking nearby. Overall a nice place for a snack. Highly recommend.

Popped in today and managed to get a table as they were very busy so enjoyed our usual wonderful lunch. Always cooked to perfection and the famous "Richard's chips" were fantastic. They are dog friendly too so our wee pooch Alvah had a great time being petted by other visitors.
