The Cuan

Strangford, Down, <20£
15/06/2021: I've been excited to try the restaurant since I heard it was under new management and it did not disappoint. The interiors are beautiful with a relaxing bar and dining area that looks like something from a classic NYC Hotel. The menu is varied from standard pub favourites to bistro style food to choose from. When I arrived I advised I had a gluten allergy and was talked through the menu (there was very little I couldn't eat) and asked to fill out an allergy card which ensures all staff knew I required a gluten free meal. For starter I had smoked salmon and fresh fennel with a delicious piece of gluten free wheaten bread and I had chicken for main. My partner had squid for starter and a burger for main. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Will definitely be back when next in Strangford
13/06/2021: The refurbishment is great, place looks amazing. Have to say a bit disappointed with the front of house staff. We had booked at the start of May for Saturday night dinner. On arrival we had a drink outside and requested to see a menu, went and asked again for a menu and got one but it was time to go inside then anyway. Walked through the front door and stood with staff looking at us as if we were lost, said we had a booking and the member of staff looked around the room as if looking for a free table. Once she seen one I was asked if this will do? Being treated like a walk-in is not good. I asked if we could sit in the actual restaurant section, in the other room as there are two seats free, I was told they are booked? As I could see these seats when I went to the bathroom, they were never filled all night. Drinks had to be chased, food orders wrong, no recompense, there are actually so many things to write about here that I can't be bothered. Disappointed.

McHughs Bar & Restaurant

Duncairn, Belfast
05/09/2021: Myself and 7 of my friends went to this venue yesterday for dinner. The food was decent and most of the staff were very nice. Between the 8 of us we spend over £300 on food and drink. At half 9 we were asked to move downstairs to the live music which was no problem. Apart from us there was about 10 people in there on a Saturday night. We have it on video us sitting in our seats singing with the musician. The "Manager" came over and told us to shut up singing because of covid. We thought she was joking at first, still ordering rounds of drink and shots she came back around and said she will get the bouncer to kick us out if we don't be quiet. We then asked can we speak to the manager as she was the only member of staff to have a problem with us. She then shouted "I am the manager!!!". So we told her she had no manners and left. The musician seemed annoyed as we were the only ones giving him feedback. We would have happily sat and drank there all night if it wasn't for that "Manager".
05/09/2021: Out of everything: half of the main dishes were not available, one of the two fries options not available (after the waiteress asked me which one I wanted and then brought me what was left of the other type). The soup was ok, but the bread served with it seemed almost raw.Confusion and agitation in the staff, despite there was not a big crowd due to covid-19 regulations

Hunters Bar Ballyvoy

Glenshesk, Moyle
25/07/2021: It was one of the worst experiences in my life. Myself and my friends were sat at the table and offered drinks from a member of staff. After a while we were informed, that there is not enaugh staff on today and we wont be served any food...How very dissapointing. There was no note at the entrance to the restaurant saying that the food is not being served...And what is the point keeping the restaurant opened anyway with no food or staff in it...Well one thing is sure, we will never come back there again.
21/07/2021: Served fairly quickly. Food and service excellent. Generous portions . Staff very attentive. Thank you to all the staff, and compliments to the chef Will definitely b back

55 Degrees North

Royal Portrush, Coleraine
07/06/2021: Very good food and value. We ate in the cafe and the views of the sea were stunning. The menu had lots of variety and staff were excellent, very helpful and adhered to covid protocols. Would love to visit again if in the area
04/06/2021: It doesn’t matter how nice the food is, having to eat it with incredibly flimsy knives and forks was a real let down. We couldn’t cut through the bread on one dish. My personal low was trying to eat a lovely £12 chowder with a plastic spoon that was half the size of a normal tea spoon. Messy and frustrating. We took one dish away with us as we couldn’t cut into the dish! Lucky for us all the food was served in takeaway boxes!!

Morning Star

Shaftesbury, Belfast, <20£
21/05/2021: AVOID!! Disgusting raw food. 1 hr 30mins for my complaint to be dealt with by a manager and I use the words “dealt with” loosely. He wasn’t prepared to even listen and when I said I couldn’t possibly recommend the place to anyone I was asked to leave and wouldn’t be served there again. It was almost laughable. As if I would ever spend another penny in such a badly run establishment. I’m concerned about the young and the elderly eating there as the food isn’t cooked properly. Definitely not the place to eat when you arrive feeling hungry and leave feeling sick!
15/05/2021: Firstly this review is 100% genuine.Had a few meals here ....without being too negative ....there were issues.1 Had drinks sent to wtongvtanle twice.2 Mealnhsdvto be sent back as it was served cold.Suggest mealsare served pipinghot when they are served outdoors.3 Waited one day over 30 mins even after asking where my meal was .....eventually nearly walked out.Manager resolved amicably.Food is good but not cheap either ....but there are serious issues here that need to be resolved to maintain the service I have had in the past.Apologies for any inconvenience caused but just being honest.

The Bushmills Inn Restaurant

Bushmills, Moyle
14/06/2021: We recently took some friends for what we previously enjoyed Sunday lunch at the bushmills inn restaurant, very disappointed with the whole thing, introduction and welcome to the table good, service willing but very uninformed as to our guests dietary requirements, no info on the menu as to specify choices etc so we had to enquire as to suitability, it personally left us feeling very uncomfortable let alone our guests. Main meal not hot and again nothing special for the prices charged. Dessert good but overall poor.
06/06/2021: We visited today and had booked for the advertised carvery. We understand that many places do not allow you to go to a counter at this time, but it can be done. The meal was served as a Sunday roast. It was a set meal, with no choice of portions and although it was enough for me, anyone with a big appetite would not have found portions adequate. There was just one small roast potato and a quenelle of mash potato. The cauliflower and broccoli mornay was a tiny portion, just a tiny floret of cauliflower and a tiny floret of broccoli. Sadly, the meat was all over cooked and the yorkshire was so crisp that it shattered on cutting. We ate at 2pm and maybe the earlier sitting would have had fresher food. Unfortunately poor value for money.
