Dakota Bar & Grill Restaurant in Glasgow City

We were given a voucher as a wedding present which expired in Sept 2023. We would have used it in the one year timeframe but anyone else with a toddler in nursery will know about having to cancel plans due to illness. Add to that moving house while being pregnant again meant we were 2 weeks late honouring our voucher. To our surprise Dakota refused to honour the voucher despite knowing the circumstances. We were a bit put out that they weren’t at all apologetic either. What’s it to them if they already have the money. Insult to injury was when we got a call from them days later and thought they had changed their mind. No, they just phoned to say they still wouldn’t honour it! Honestly, how mean spirited is that?!

Our favourite dining place but this was the first time in over 8 years of going where I have to give a mark of less than 5 stars. Restaurant was busy but not full and usually they cope brilliantly but it took 50 minutes to take our food order and it was another half hour till we got our starters. Waitress then came to apologise half an hour later as she said the kitchen had backed up but our mains were only delayed another half hour. This is the longest serving of dinner we have ever had there, the staff remained excellent in their service even though there seemed to be a lot of new faces in the staff. Our scallops starter was very poor being overcooked and chewy. Mains were excellent but I don’t know what the chef was trying to do with the side dish of cabbage as it was pretty disgusting. Very unusual night for our favourite place so will presume it’s a one off!

So disappointing. Visited as a birthday celebration with family, Service was very slow. This was to be expected as it was a busy Friday with big parties attending. Staff, as always were lovely and pleasant but service slower than usual. Food has a new menu and this is where it was so disappointing. The new menu has too much fish, the vegetable sides weren’t great and the mashed potato tasted vile. Unsure if it was truffle in it but was unpleasant. My son who had the Gnocchi said it was pretty greasy and appeared deep fried . He didn’t ask for the vegetarian menu but wished he had, We have visited the Grill on many occasions but this was really poor. The new menu is unappealing. as I mentioned, if you are a fish lover you’ll do well but if not it’s limited, unless you like Steak. We have to say it’s unlikely we’ll eat in the Grill again till menu changes as this was by far, the worst meal we have had for a few years in year. We’ll still visit Jacks Bar as cocktails are fab but the new menu has taken the shine off our dining out experience.

Visited to celebrate wife’s retirement and were very happy with welcome and service. Lovely ambience and waiting staff were attentive without being intrusive.

The service was excellent!!! I loved the lemon sole main course. The chicken liver parfait starter was attractively presented, but if the texture had been a little more solid that would be great. Also, the flavour was not strong - the accompanying brioche was beautiful. The Tamdhu baba dessert, I expected to be like a rhum baba, but with Tamdhu whisky. I only encounter real rhum baba [with rhum] in restauarants in France and they are delicious. However, the sponge here was like a cake sponge rather than a baba sponge and I didnt taste any alcohol. The prunes served as part of the abba were excellent

Keiran and his team continue to excel in my "go to" restaurant in Glasgow. This time was for my boys 18th and the team made all of us feel feel very comfortable and focused on his enjoyment from the champagne bar to the private dining room. Thanks guys, keep up the good work and I will see you again soon.

We stayed at the Dakota for a 4-night staycation, and dined in the Grill every night. The restaurant and the bar were as welcoming and delightful as ever. The staff are so friendly and helpful, it is always an extremely enjoyable experience to dine at the Dakota Glasgow Bar & Grill.

Was there with my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, we had the CHATEAUBRIAND, it was beautiful and will definitely be back to both the Dakota bar & grill as well as the hotel, we stayed in the hotel for 2 nights whilst we were there and that too was amazing. Over all amazing service, friendly staff, beautiful rooms and excellent food !

As always the food and our table service was outstanding, we were out for our Christmas Eve dinner which we do every year, sadly there was a table of 4 next to us and the ladies were exceptionally drunk and exceptionally loud and used foul language in almost every sentence. It’s such a lovely restaurant with great food and great staff. I just wish the staff would ask their customers to allow everyone to have a good time.

Fantastic ambiance, exceptional service and the food…. delicious. My wife and I were staying in the hotel, so we obliged and took the lazy choice to eat in the restaurant. It has a good rating overall, so why not. It didn’t disappoint. The venison was my wife’s choice and it was cooked to perfection. I had the steak which was nice. Potatoes and veg were spot on. Really disappointed with our meal last night at the Dakota Glasgow, which was not cheap at £189. The starter of chicken liver pate was basically a watery dollop which tasted completely bland, served with a small bread roll. Not the quality you would expect from the Dakota. A suggestion would be to serve toasted bread or oat cakes with the pate. Our main course was 2 ribeye steaks with chips, ceaser salad and garlic mushrooms as sides. The steak’s looked superb on the plate but proved to be very disappointing. They were both fatty and a spongy texture, not what a ribeye should be. When collecting our plates our server enquired if we enjoyed the steaks, which we said no and explained the reason. But no response. Our deserts were well presented and tasty, followed by coffee which was the best part of the meal, unfortunately. Service was good and the setting is beautiful. Just a disappointing meal.

The grill at Dakota Glasgow is top class the meal was incredible, the Chateaubriand Is the best I have had and each time we visit the standards are always the same. The salt and vinegar potatoes are highly recommended as are the chips The classy and intimate feel is what sets us apart, the children’s menus was great for my daughter and for my wife’s birthday they gave little sweet treats. Great food, lovely staff, cool vibe and very relaxing atmosphere. I love the ‘local’ element of the menu and an excellent selection of whiskies to boot. We will be back!

The smoking area is undoubtedly the best in Glasgow. Airy yet warm, comfortable and welcoming and first class service. They also have a large humidor with a good selection of cigars.
