The Merchant Steakhouse in Glasgow City

Dined here on 22/03/25, served by Aidan, he shared lots of knowledge on the menu and gave us good recommendations. Very friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing

This was our first visit to the Merchant Steakhouse for my partner's birthday and everything about the place was phenomenal. Joe was our waiter for the evening and his attention to our needs was impeccable. As soon as our glasses were starting to empty, he was over straight away to top them up. He was very knowledgeable on the menu and explained each item in great detail. The rest of the team were faultless too and the barman even made my partner a bespoke mocktail with a flavour profile of her choosing. The food was exceptional, one of the best meals we have ever had. We will definitely be returning and we couldn't rate this little gem any higher. Thank you.

What a great culinary experience! Our server, Joseph was excellent in both his explanation of the plates but also in his charm. He also gave us excellent referrals on other activities to experience in Glasgow.

The food was absolutely incredible. They explained the aging process so well. Joe, our waiter was very friendly and informative making us feel very welcomed, even without a reservation. The ambiance was beautiful, with great music! Definitely recommend giving this place a try while in Glasgow!

Didn't know how to go about this review but here goes, I visited the Merchant steakhouse on Saturday the 15th march and where do I start. I will explain my next comments. Over priced, underwhelmed and would not recommend. So first off we had a reservation at 8pm. We where seated quickly and servers where very welcoming, BUT we were rushed. Within 15 minutes we got told that if we didn't order now we would have to wait as there was a table of 20 and if we didn't order it would be a while before we got to order, as we where celebrating my partner's birthday we felt this was not great service. So we ordered. Tomahawk steak which came with two sides and two sauces and we ordered two extra sides, my sister in law wanted a burger but they ran out in a steakhouse, but that was the case, she then ordered the chicken supreme. We where told that it would take around 40 minutes for the steak yet it came within 15 minutes, steak and sides no chicken though, we where then told of an issue with the ordering system which was fine they apologised and sorted ravioli for my sister in law and also to the credit of the staff did not charge us for the ravioli. We felt very rushed like they want the table or they where ready to close kind of vibes. Cost: tomahawk steak was £150 on its own, so tomahawk £150 two extra along with the two sauces and sides that it came with four drinks and one sparkling water meant the total bill was £240. Meaning the two extra sides, four drinks and a sparkling water came to £90. Would I recommend: NO over priced small portions and cost was not worth it. Will not be going back. It was a very expensive underwhelming experience rushed throughout and got home feeling hungry. The hype is not worth it very bad experience, and the worst part of my partner's birthday. Hope this helps you all decide (Nonna said) is way better less expensive and always leave feeling full and satisfied. Shame on you (Merchant steakhouse)

Entire dining experience was incredible. Interior of the restaurant is stunning, food was 100/10. Service was phenomenal - our waiter Tom was super attentive & helpful. Highly recommend - will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere, delicious food, and phenomenal staff and service. Visiting from Texas to celebrate daughter’s high school graduation and birthday, and this was the mark of the visit. Special salute to fabulous Darcy, accompanied by Louis and Anton. Food recommendation was spot on, and drinks were fantastic! We’ll return again when back in Glasgow.. 10/10 hands down!

Amazing experience on 08/03/25 celebrating my partners 50th! From the minute we walked in it was first class. Delicious sirloin steak . The evening was made very special by the service we experienced. Kavi was amazing and looked after us very well. I have to mention Emmanuel , lovely and very friendly . Highly recommend. Thanks for a great night!

A good Sunday roast, from my original post, it wasn’t as good as it has been in the past, the carrots and parsnip was different that before more like the batons you buy in a bag & microwave & not quite enough gravy, which if I’d of asked I’m pretty sure they would of given me more. Service was better than it has been in the past. One let down was the chocolate brownie, it was cold, anywhere were ever had it, it was heated with the cold vanilla ice cream.. must remember if we go again to ask for it warmed up! My boy still ate it mind you! Starters on roast menu are ok, nothing to rave about, as are the desserts! Pop the peanut butter dessert back on! 😊

A very special experience for a birthday meal. All staff are lovely and very attentive but Aidan took care of our table and was fabulous. Thank you for the birthday prosecco and a 10/10 steak. We will definitely be back!

I had my 50th birthday celebratory dinner at the Merchant Steakhouse, Ingram Street today. We were served by Kavi and Emmanuel and both were extremely courteous, professional and helpful. They made my day extra special and I couldn't rate and thank them highly enough. The food was the best I have eaten in years! Keep up the good work guys and I sure will be back!!

On a weekend away with my partner and was looking at a quiet place for a Sunday roast! Came here and food/drinks were fantastic and just what we were looking for! Darcy was a lovely host, cant thank her enough for looking after us!

Food was lovely, staff were great & constantly checking in to check all well, had enough drinks etc, loved the wee touches like birthday message & little glass of fizz. Only negative felt tables were to close together and wasn’t great good when customers from the back tables walked thru gap between the table when using toilet etc instead of going round (this is no fault to restaurant tho)

An enjoyable afternoon . Restaurant staff very friendly and attentive - perhaps a little too much. Lots of enquiries about wanting more drinks etc. We all ordered steaks - very tasty - however ribeyes had a lot of inedible fat still on. A bit of a shame.

Food was amazing. I normally go for medium steak but decided to try medium rare and it was so nice. It was cooked perfectly. My daughter even loved hers and she can be quite fussy when it comes to meat. Highly recommend.

What a beautiful restaurant. Decor is perfect, tables are set apart enough to give you a feeling of space and not being crammed in. Welcome was lovely and felt genuine and our waiter Joe was excellent. He took us through the menu explaining the cuts and age of the steaks. My partner had the Cullen skink followed by the 45 day aged 10oz fillet, while I had the duck...omg the food was so so good. Didn't have room for dessert!! And that is not like me to pass up on the sweet stuff. We loved it...Will definitely return xx

Booked last minute on a trip to Glasgow, was not disappointed. Will return whenever I am next in Glasgow.

Staff were nice but to be honest the food was mediocre. We've had finer steaks from Aldi and if you're paying nearly 50 quid for a steak it should be good. £150 for just 2 mains and some drinks - the standard should be way better than this.

Expensive and noisy. Fortunately they put us at à quitter table downstairs. Upstairs would have been unbearable!

We booked the Merchant Steakhouse for a family celebration,my son's 20th birthday, and from the moment we arrived the service we received was exceptional, they really couldn't do enough for us,an extra special thank you to Joe for all of your extra touchs,birthday sorbet! We have been in Glasgow for 6 years now,and tried many of the recommended steak houses,the Merchant is firmly in first place,the food was amazing,absolutely delicious, well done to all of the team your efforts and dedication to excellence was very appreciated from all of the O'Hara family.

We had a wonderful experience at your restaurant, from the start the attention from your excellent staff who guided us through the menu and made sure we had everything we needed, the bartender made me a brilliant Bloody Mary and enquired how I would like it and then asked for feedback on how it was. The food was fabulous and plenty of it, we had a sweet which was so good - even though we didn’t need it 😄 thank you. We will be back soon 🥰

Phenomenal meal. Everything ordered was fantastic from the cocktails to the food it's self. Can't fault it and is definitely up there. Possibly the best steaks we've ever had.

Been a few times now. Went for valentines day yesterday. Food and service was amazing. Starters and main were really tasty steak cooked ro perfection. My only gripe would be that the starters arrived within five minutes of ordering them (beef shin croquettes and haggis spring rolls)....which is why they were only lukewarm inside. I thought when cooking or reheating the food was meant to be cooked to 75○c or 82○c respectively. Also wasn't happy about the service charge of 10 percent on the bill for a table of two I thought this is usually on tables of 6 or more depending on the restaurant. So I didn't leave a tip (which made me feel awful because the staff were really good i do hope the service charge goes to staff) . Not that I was given the option to when paying by card. Would still definitely go back and would highly recommend this restaurant

Absolutely loved my experience at this restaurant! The steak was simply phenomenal—hands down the best I've ever tasted. Joe, our server, made it even better with his attentive service and in-depth knowledge of the menu and drink selections. I can't recommend this place enough—definitely a perfect 10 out of 10!

Everything was outstanding! Came for the Sunday roast today before going to watch the rugby. Both had beef shin croquettes and the beef roast, my partner had the beef and ham combo. All so tasty, but the service was absolutely fantastic, all so friendly and efficient without being overbearing. The bartender and host who we spoke to about the bourbon bloody Mary’s were also the loveliest. We will definitely be back and would have stayed longer if we didn’t have to get away for the game!

Very nice food, not too long of a wait. We were served by Emmanuel who was very welcoming and patient with a huge smile at all times.

Just wanted to thank Joe and all the staff for a brilliant meal and excellent service on Sunday when we visited for a family celebration. The Sunday roast was my particular favorite but all 13 of us commented on how good all the dishes were including the Chateaubriand. Looking forward to going back again soon

Cold restaurant, cold food, no wifi, too many menu options missing, grossly overpriced for what you get. 112 quid for 2 Sunday roasts and 1 bottle of plonk, the roasts need to be spot on, they were NOT. Would not go back.

Had a fantastic meal with my son. We had the haggis and croquette starters, followed by the beef Wellington and some extra sides. Everything was amazing. The only reason i put 3 stars for atmosphere was it was early and quite but in no way diminished our experience.

Had my first meal with my best friend and it was amazing, from the bread to the steak food was great, the staff were so friendly and very knowledgeable from the cuts of meat to wine and cocktails, we will definitely be back and thank you to the staff.

Out in Glasgow for an overnight stay stopped in tonight for a meal. Wife and myself fancied the Sunday Roast. Service was great with our young American waiter attentive but not overbearing. Had a lovely very hot 10 bloody Mary pre starter. Ordered a schooner of Madri and a lovely bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon. We both ordered the Sunday Roast beef. Beef and trimmings were perfect unfortunately the gravy was overpoweringly salty and my wife couldn't eat any of her meal which had been coated with it hence the lower food score. Would recommend they serve the gravy separately to give you the option of not using it or offer another gravy more to your taste. Dessert was a very tasty key lime pie with vanilla ice cream.

The place was just about empty so the atmosphere was bound to be affected. Service was great throughout but didn't like the fact i had to point out the 20% off in January had not been taken off the bill and I felt like this was almost a see if we get away without pointing that out. Chateaubriand was over cooked but we were so hungry we just ate it. Unfortunately that dried out the meat so not as enjoyable as it should have been. I think it was a broader issue because the table next to us sent theirs back because of the same reason. Overall it was ok would i return, probably not. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 if I could

Myself and a friend ate here on the 3rd January and had a bad experience. At the advice of the duty manager I sent an email to management that night and I have not heard anything back. Disappointing, as we had heard such good things.

Second visit and although on my first review I said I would not go back due to the volume of the music, we were given a gift voucher for Christmas. Opted for Sunday lunch with a side of extra greens and so glad we did, the food was amazing and beautifully presented. Pleased to say the volume of the music was at a much more acceptable level which made the experience so much better than our first vist.

Went for a special occasion. Two different steaks, one fillet and one sirloin. Both cooked perfectly. One of the best peppercorn sauces I’ve had in the city, good little kick. The “mash” well presented and not too dry. Keylime pie was one I did not expect to have however perfectly put together well. Cocktails are a must. Staff are friendly and helpful
