The Merchant Steakhouse in Glasgow City

We booked the Merchant Steakhouse for a family celebration,my son's 20th birthday, and from the moment we arrived the service we received was exceptional, they really couldn't do enough for us,an extra special thank you to Joe for all of your extra touchs,birthday sorbet! We have been in Glasgow for 6 years now,and tried many of the recommended steak houses,the Merchant is firmly in first place,the food was amazing,absolutely delicious, well done to all of the team your efforts and dedication to excellence was very appreciated from all of the O'Hara family.

We had a wonderful experience at your restaurant, from the start the attention from your excellent staff who guided us through the menu and made sure we had everything we needed, the bartender made me a brilliant Bloody Mary and enquired how I would like it and then asked for feedback on how it was. The food was fabulous and plenty of it, we had a sweet which was so good - even though we didn’t need it 😄 thank you. We will be back soon 🥰

Phenomenal meal. Everything ordered was fantastic from the cocktails to the food it's self. Can't fault it and is definitely up there. Possibly the best steaks we've ever had.

Absolutely loved my experience at this restaurant! The steak was simply phenomenal—hands down the best I've ever tasted. Joe, our server, made it even better with his attentive service and in-depth knowledge of the menu and drink selections. I can't recommend this place enough—definitely a perfect 10 out of 10!

Been a few times now. Went for valentines day yesterday. Food and service was amazing. Starters and main were really tasty steak cooked ro perfection. My only gripe would be that the starters arrived within five minutes of ordering them (beef shin croquettes and haggis spring rolls)....which is why they were only lukewarm inside. I thought when cooking or reheating the food was meant to be cooked to 75○c or 82○c respectively. Also wasn't happy about the service charge of 10 percent on the bill for a table of two I thought this is usually on tables of 6 or more depending on the restaurant. So I didn't leave a tip (which made me feel awful because the staff were really good i do hope the service charge goes to staff) . Not that I was given the option to when paying by card. Would still definitely go back and would highly recommend this restaurant

Yesterday we went for a little date day to The Merchant Steakhouse and had the most amazing meal. Everything from the ambience to the service by the wonderful Joe to the food and drinks were 10/10. Would highly recommend 👌🏻🍽️🍷

Everything was outstanding! Came for the Sunday roast today before going to watch the rugby. Both had beef shin croquettes and the beef roast, my partner had the beef and ham combo. All so tasty, but the service was absolutely fantastic, all so friendly and efficient without being overbearing. The bartender and host who we spoke to about the bourbon bloody Mary’s were also the loveliest. We will definitely be back and would have stayed longer if we didn’t have to get away for the game!

Very nice food, not too long of a wait. We were served by Emmanuel who was very welcoming and patient with a huge smile at all times.

We had such a fantastic evening at the merchant steak house and our server Aidan was the main reason for that, he explained everything brilliantly and made sure we were looked after all night. Will defo return :)

Just wanted to thank Joe and all the staff for a brilliant meal and excellent service on Sunday when we visited for a family celebration. The Sunday roast was my particular favorite but all 13 of us commented on how good all the dishes were including the Chateaubriand. Looking forward to going back again soon

Cold restaurant, cold food, no wifi, too many menu options missing, grossly overpriced for what you get. 112 quid for 2 Sunday roasts and 1 bottle of plonk, the roasts need to be spot on, they were NOT. Would not go back.

Had a fantastic meal with my son. We had the haggis and croquette starters, followed by the beef Wellington and some extra sides. Everything was amazing. The only reason i put 3 stars for atmosphere was it was early and quite but in no way diminished our experience.

Had my first meal with my best friend and it was amazing, from the bread to the steak food was great, the staff were so friendly and very knowledgeable from the cuts of meat to wine and cocktails, we will definitely be back and thank you to the staff.

Out in Glasgow for an overnight stay stopped in tonight for a meal. Wife and myself fancied the Sunday Roast. Service was great with our young American waiter attentive but not overbearing. Had a lovely very hot 10 bloody Mary pre starter. Ordered a schooner of Madri and a lovely bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon. We both ordered the Sunday Roast beef. Beef and trimmings were perfect unfortunately the gravy was overpoweringly salty and my wife couldn't eat any of her meal which had been coated with it hence the lower food score. Would recommend they serve the gravy separately to give you the option of not using it or offer another gravy more to your taste. Dessert was a very tasty key lime pie with vanilla ice cream.

Joe looked after us this evening and was very attentive, very kind and spent a lot of time and interest in the reasons for our celebration at the restaurant this evening - he’s a superstar.

The place was just about empty so the atmosphere was bound to be affected. Service was great throughout but didn't like the fact i had to point out the 20% off in January had not been taken off the bill and I felt like this was almost a see if we get away without pointing that out. Chateaubriand was over cooked but we were so hungry we just ate it. Unfortunately that dried out the meat so not as enjoyable as it should have been. I think it was a broader issue because the table next to us sent theirs back because of the same reason. Overall it was ok would i return, probably not. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 if I could

Myself and a friend ate here on the 3rd January and had a bad experience. At the advice of the duty manager I sent an email to management that night and I have not heard anything back. Disappointing, as we had heard such good things.

Went for a special occasion. Two different steaks, one fillet and one sirloin. Both cooked perfectly. One of the best peppercorn sauces I’ve had in the city, good little kick. The “mash” well presented and not too dry. Keylime pie was one I did not expect to have however perfectly put together well. Cocktails are a must. Staff are friendly and helpful

Second visit and although on my first review I said I would not go back due to the volume of the music, we were given a gift voucher for Christmas. Opted for Sunday lunch with a side of extra greens and so glad we did, the food was amazing and beautifully presented. Pleased to say the volume of the music was at a much more acceptable level which made the experience so much better than our first vist.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal here last night with my husband as a post-Christmas treat. We were keen to try the new a la carte menu. Initial disappointment at the lack of marrowbone starter soon eased when we tried the croquettes- absolutely delicious. My husband really liked the haggis spring rolls. Mains of rib eye, sirloin, whipped potatoes and bordelaise sauce reliably wonderful. I was happy too to see the marshmallow brulee still featuring on the dessert menu and just had to indulge! We washed it all down with a delicious bottle of Shiraz. The staff, as always, were attentive but not annoyingly so. Friendly, informative and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is always classy but relaxed. Our favourite place and we'll definitely be back. Thankyou Merchant Steakhouse!

Fantastic steakhouse with great service! Our server Joe was amazing, so helpful in explaining the menu and kept us right. The steak could be cut with a spoon it was melt in your mouth kind of quality, so good we were very impressed! Great selection of starters and sides too! Highly recommend!

Great Sunday roast.. also been on other occasions and the steak is really good too, well seasoned. The service when we were in as two couples , was a bit slow on the drinks, however when the drinks did arrive they were lovely… great margaritas.

We visited Sunday 29th December after walking past on the Saturday & loving the menu. We didn't realise it was roast day on a Sunday & my husband wanted duck. Joe made it happen, he went above and beyond. He was so friendly and gave us champagne for our anniversary. Both meals were 10/10. We will definitely be back

only issue was seating downstairs speding £400 meal. and people too close. made it uncomfortable

1st time visiting here and it was simply stunning, the food was delicious must be the best steakhouse in Glasgow the service was superb all staff we're all very friendly and helpful, if you've never been it's a must visit I will certainly be back soon.

Fue el 28 de diciembre. El restaurante era demasiado alborotado, grandes grupos de todos los hombres gritando y demasiado alto. El servicio era terrible, el camarero no parecía interesado y no podía molestarse en explicar los pesos de los filetes compartidos ... también tomó años para ser servido y sirvió otras mesas que vinieron después de nosotros antes que nosotros. En la comida - El bistec no se cocinó correctamente. pidió medio, era raro, también el aceite de cocina que utilizaron era horrible y deja un mal sabor y terminé con problema estomacal más tarde. La calidad de la comida por el alto precio de gama era extremadamente mala. Si buscas un buen filete, ve a la carnicería o carnicería española o incluso ve a la ciudad. Mucho mejor por los mismos precios.

Bottle of water wasnt brought to table after being offered. 3 sides werent with our meal when when we chased this up, we were given two mash. We were missing 2 fries and one mash.

Sadly disappointed One of our regular, favourite eateries.. but not tonight. Booked NYE meal months ago. Arrived 7pm .. given wrong table. Moved to requested table, fine. First sitting and we were ordering scallops as a starter to be told they had run out . Really ?! On NYE by 7pm? Terrible planning. At 7.20 we were then told our Beef Wellington would take another HOUR (this was prebooked) . So.. We waited & it arrived at 8pm. Red wine didn’t arrive until we’d almost finished our meal so what’s the point? What started out as an exciting New Years Eve treat turned into something very disappointing & put us in a less than exciting mood. Shame..

Food was incredible. All 6 of the party enjoyed their meals. The merchant 2/3 course menu has an amazing selection and the quality of the food could easily still be worth the money at double the price. Highly recommend.

Simply delicious and awesome service.

The most fantastic meal on an extremely busy night, we arrived with no booking but were very lucky to get a table for 4. Service initially a little slow, appeared to have been some staffing issues, but they were all exceptional & were lovely, friendly & courteous at all times. All the food was superb but the Fillet steak & duck were absolutely outstanding.

Had a lovely dinner and drinks. Joe was our server, who explained the menu in great detail helping us make our decision and he was very attentive. Food was amazing and service was so quick, we will definitely be back!

We arrived and a lovely man greeted us and explained our table was a few minutes late but he was so nice and chatty while we waited. The waiter that took our order was nice and polite. The food came and it was fantastic. My friend ask where the bread and bone marrow butter was that has been ordered and again the waiter was very nice and apologetic. A minute or so passed and another man came to the table we feel maybe he was the wait staff manager. He abruptly asked who took our order and when we said the waiter he snapped and asked for a name I explained we didn't remember his name and he said because it shouldn't of been able to be ordered. We said its not a problem and but he insisted on getting us bread with a butter so we accepted. This man then asked what else we are waiting on and we said a gin he came back with a different cocktail. Then my husband ordered a beer he brought two. We ordered dessert and he stood waiting for one of our guests to hand him the menu back and seemed very offened when they didnt notice because they were engrossed in conversation. The wrong dessert was then brought for my husband. All of these ordered were being taken by the same man. It put a little dampener on the meal as we kept having to correct the orders and then he seemed not very happy and our meal was interrupted a good few times by this. It was a shame because the food was fantastic and we were happy to pay the price for such wonderful food but we felt the amount spent had almost been a slight waste because we weren't able to fully enjoy the experience because of the interruptions due to this one person and the disgruntled impression he was giving as if we were the ones messing about and just ordered the wrong things to mess with him.

El Malbec que elegimos estaba agotado. Lo mejor fue Bee Electric. Solo tenían una botella de esto y querían vendernos otra botella al doble del precio de esta. Sentí que era una cena injusta y no me impresionó. ¡Decepcionado!

We were served by Joe all night who was lovely! Went for my husbands birthday and all the food was amazing. Will definitely be going back.

Christmas Day dinner Food was absolutely delicious, everyone enjoyed their dinners - whether they were having turkey, beef or halibut. All meats were cooked to perfection with lots of lovely flavours. Service was pretty poor however. Table not set well with no side plates, had to ask for things a lot, staff seemed unsure what was happening at times. Waited a very long time for dessert, we were brought the wrong desserts not once but twice, having already said that was not what we had ordered. It always felt like they weren’t sure what they were doing, although they were perfectly pleasant. Music was too loud and generally atmosphere was a bit flat. A real shame as clearly the chefs are top notch.

Not worth £220 for a Christmas dinner for two when my daughter had garlic bread for a starter , should’ve not been charged for the full meal.. tried it but not worth the price at all I won’t be back and I won’t recommend it

We recently visited this restaurant for the first time. Our experience was positive from the minute we walked in the door. The ambiance was warm & friendly and it was beautifully decorated with twinkly lights & Christmassy. The staff were friendly, attentive & seated us immediately in a cosy comfortable booth. Our server was Joseph who was very chatty & friendly. He was very informative about both the A la carte menu & Sunday roast menu, talking us through all our options and choices. 3 of us chose the Sunday roast menu. 1 chose the ham & 2 the best of both. We chose ham and beef. All dishes were served with a great selection of potatoes, veg, Yorkshire puddings & gravy. My husband chose sirloin steak. He usually does, but said it's the best tasted & cooked he's had for a very long time and we eat out often. The wine & beers were also very lovely. None of us had dessert on this occasion as we were fully satisfied with our main meal. If I had to highlight 1 positive, it would be the Sunday roast potion size may be a bit too much for some people, however I see this as constructive critisism. We were satisfied with value for money for the overall experience. Joseph was very helpful and recommended other establishments we could visit for drinks & cocktails, and the other staff were equally attentive. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough and I can't wait to go back and sample other dishes from the menu. You must try it for yourself!

Not great and the prices are far too high, it cost us £190 for 2 people with a 10% service charge included. Service was fast and we were finished in an hour and fifteen minutes. The beers are only half pint size which I only discovered when it landed on the table, a trick that really annoys me. The experience didn't match the prices they charged and the restaurant didnt have any fine dining quality about it. We ordered the bourdelaise sauce but unfortunately it wasn't good resembling a kind of salty gravy and the chips were very average so for us it was a one-of experience.

Wow , we have had many steaks out , but this beef Wellington was better than anything we have ever had. The knife cut through like butter , it came with 2 sides and 2 sauces of our choosing. Executive chef brought it to our table, delicious masterpiece ! Chefs kiss ! You won't be disappointed, already looming forward to returning in April on our next glasgow visit !

Lovely meal. First time visiting and food was no lie best steak ever tasted..... Atmosphere was nice. Lighting very nice and staff were super friendly.... Would definitely be back in the new year....

My husband and I had the best chateaubriand ever. Our server Joe was the best! Lovely surroundings, lovely comfy booths and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Steak was great but rest of food was pretty poor, nothing really served with the steak , 1 small potatoes 2 small it's of broccoli and 6 small button mushrooms really disappointed and won't be back, definitely not worth £115 with service charge that i don't agree with, won't be back

Dear owner/ manager of The Merchant Steakhouse, I eat out quite regularly in Glasgow, and I've sampled most of the high-quality restaurants, particularly steak restaurants. Today, Thursday, I had a table booked for 16:45, I contact the restaurant and they were happy for me to go around 4 pm, things were looking promising. Unfortunately that’s where it ended, I have to say I was extremely disappointed as I’ve been looking forward for a while to come along to your restaurant. In summary, when ordering I asked if I could change the potatoes that came with the steak and pay the difference, I was told no you will have to have two kinds of potatoes, the food was served on cold plates so it went cold very quickly, when I ordered a glass of wine to go with my steak it never arrived, once my steak arrived I asked the waiter if I could possibly have my wine to which he responded “I’m on my own” in a sarcastic voice and put both hands up in a gesture of look around you ! There was two other tables in besides me and I was on my own. Very disappointed. Darren Crisp

Lovely steak meal in this restaurant.Service was first class although the restaurant was a bit quiet through the early part of our lunch.The haggis and turnip spring rolls as a starter were fab as were the Old Fashioned Cocktails with Bourbon.

Couldn't fault the dining experience at all. The meal was fantastic, the atmosphere was pleasant and the service we received from Joe and the rest of the team was perfect. Great service all round. 5 stars.

I'm giving a 5 as I cant give a 10. We had the Butchers' block and it was nothing but fantastic. Cooked to perfection so tender & moist. Service was excellent as well. Cant recommend this place enough.

Starters were the highlight with the Beef Cheek Spring Rolls being the star. Mains were ok and a £10 surcharge for a small was OTT for the size, fondant potatoes were warm and veg was wilted, pudding was good, 5 × Key Lime Pie. Dining experience was below par with very little ambience and loud music, staff were a mixed bunch and would be better suited to working behind the scenes in a mortuary with one guy resembling "Vlad The Impaler". The whole experience was saved by Joseph. Overated and overpriced with ridiculous service charge. Wouldn't recommend and won't return. What do I know, retired Chef with Michelin and Rosette experience 🤔

Excellent quality of food. Scotch Broth with fresh chillies was a great starter. Ribeye cooked perfectly and presented with broccoli and mushrooms and Apple & Rhubarb crumble to finish. Head Chef also coming out to explain the process of air drying the beef was a nice touch. Highly recommended.

Overall a great experience. Staff and food first class. First time coming to the restaurant certainly went be my last. Had a fantastic time. Thank you.
