The Makars Rest

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of, 30-45£
21/01/2020: Great food and awesome service. Tried the Scottish dish 'haggis, neeps and tatties' which is simply fantastic, their wonderful hot onion soup and scotch egg on rosti. Their waiters are friendly and courteous.
21/01/2020: I’d not really thought about writing a review of a place before so that is reflection of quality of the evening I had!

Samphire Seafood Restaurant

Mid Argyll, Argyll & Bute
24/11/2019: One of the best restaurant experiences we have had. Rarely have our dietary requirements been so well managed. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the kitchen are a match for them, producing exceptionally good food. We had the hake and duck mains. Both were excellent and all the food was well priced. We ate at the local 4 star hotel the previous night and what a contrast! Average did, poor service and prices that we thought were difficult to justify. Worth more than 5 stars.
21/11/2019: Sorry to say that we found the food over priced and over rated. Appreciate Queen scallops are not large, but these were smaller than my finger nail, with the plate mainly covered in shell and salad.

Whitchurch North, Shropshire
11/01/2020: We called in for lunch. Had a lovely 2 course meal the staff were attentive and the setting was relaxed and we would definitely recommend. We will return!!
08/01/2020: We have been frequenting the restaurant for a number of years and can honestly say that every time the meal has been first class and we could not have wanted anything better.Absolutely the best.

The Green Yard Cafe

Bridport North, West Dorset
08/01/2020: Have been here a couple of times, once for breakfast and once for coffee and cake both times the food was good and the staff very friendly.
27/11/2019: Soooooooo pleased we found this friendly café, it’s become a firm favourite for us ladies that lunch. Home cooked food using local produce, all served with a cheery smile from owner Mike. Smoked haddock chowder and bubble and squeak are our current favourites. Highly recommend x

Fylingdales, Scarborough
07/01/2020: Having been to Robin Hood bay frequently over the past few years and feeling dissapointed with menu changes in our favored restaurant we decided to try the bramblewick a try for a special
04/01/2020: Had an impromptu overnight stay in RHB and booked here for dinner. The food was absolutely stunning- everything out of the kitchen surpassed expectation with little surprises along the way with amuse bouche and palate cleansers. The food is very reasonably priced although if you’re after a cheap in and out place this is probably not for you as an average main is around £25- however it is worth every penny. The seafood bouillabaisse I had was easily the best I’ve ever tasted. The front of house team are warm and welcoming and the vibe inside is lovely and chilled. We would come back to the bay just for the restaurant. I would love to know the story behind the chef because we found out later this is a reasonably new venture. Thanks again for a fantastic evening.

The Brasserie

Poulton, Lancaster, <20£
08/12/2019: Fantastic restaurant. Lazarus , the owner, so friendly and welcoming. Visited twice now although my partner has been numerous times. The food is excellent. The baby Calamari are the best I've ever tasted. Wonderful place and cannot wait to return. Have already booked for 2020.
07/12/2019: We arrived at 6 o’clock for our booking and we were seated by the owner who was amazing. Friendly, funny, welcoming and an superb host. A jug of water was brought to the table straight away. It may be so little to do this but it still it just made it so much nicer than to ask for this. We then ordered drinks which came straight away. We ordered a main order sharing platter for 3 between 4 of us. This came in stages and each time the host brought the food and he explained what everything was and made us chuckle. After the sharing platter we then had a dessert. The food all together was hands down amazing. Every dish was flavoursome. Each brought a different aspect and was handmade no doubt. Authentic Greek. I can honestly say this place has it down to a tee. If you are thinking of going anywhere make it here. It is a small business so you would be supporting this instead of a chain. Your dining experience in terms of quality of service and food will not be beaten if you choose here.

Berry Head-with-Furzeham, Torbay
29/12/2019: Wonderful little restaurant in Brixham run by a husband and wife team who certainly know how to provide good food and wine in this cosy little restaurant. Every course was beautifully prepared and presented and if like me you love your sticky toffee pudding you must go for the recommended white port wine pairing which certainly makes it a pud to die for. Thanks Lytehouse for a lovely evening.
22/11/2019: Wonderful food, expertly paired with fantastic wine; served with panache and genuine passion. Guaranteed you’ll leave firmly in your “Happy Place.” Stonking!

Wee Lochan

Partick West, Glasgow City
10/01/2020: Fantastic 5 star as always . Highly recommended! Sea bass cooked to perfection As was the venison. Will be back ... again and again!
08/01/2020: Fabulous food. Every plate cleared and if it wasn't a lovely restaurant probably licked clean. Six people have wonderful Scottish inspired ingredients. Nothing left and no chat while eating just Mmmmmmming noises. Great service and a really nice atmosphere. Definitely going back.

Menu Gordon Jones

Lyncombe, Bath and North East Somerset, 45-60£
19/01/2020: Exceptional and imaginative food paired with interesting drinks. Small and cosy dining area with cheerful friendly staff. Having a hard time coming up with my favourite dish as I thought they were all fabulous.
17/01/2020: Not only is the food some of the best you will ever have, it is a great experience with Gordon explaining each dish in detail and each dish is a complete surprise! I am a veggie, and it was so good to see so much effort taken to veg. Well catered for if do not eat meat or fish so do not let that put you off! Staff were amazing, felt extremely comfortable and you are the only people at the table for the evening, no time limit trying to get the next people in which is a rare thing these days! It was the highlight of mine and my girlfriends trip, worth every penny. If you are visiting Bath, you must go and book months in advance if attending at the weekend. Good to see a chef and restaurant putting everything into it and wish them the best for the future.

Duncans Tearoom

Richmond West, Richmondshire, >100£
12/01/2020: Sooooo good! The second time we’ve been when visiting Richmond. Lovely, wholesome food, reasonably priced. Arrived and it was heaving and the lovely lady took our number and called when there was space.
06/01/2020: Quality full English breakfast & great service in very cosy surroundings. Would have gone again but surprisingly doesn't open until 10am and we were leaving earlier the following day.

Poco Pizza

Lyme Regis, West Dorset, <20£
02/01/2020: Cosy atmosphere, excellent friendly service and superb pizzas, all in a new location right beside the beach.
08/12/2019: Poco has been exceptional from the day it first opened, although the occasional customer (not us!) moaned a little as it was compact. However Poco has now moved (literally just across the road) to larger premises, so now more people can experience the brilliant food, atmosphere and service.

North Berwick Coastal, East Lothian
19/01/2020: This is a gem of a restaurant, classy and excellent quality of food and the service is outstanding. Having lived in Italy for 22 years this in my view is the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy!
07/01/2020: Simply outstanding. Lunch menu is varied and excellent value. Would highly recommend you pay a visit to sample what is quality of the highest order covering service, food, atmosphere and wonderful staff. 10/10

Ditto Restaurant

Whitby West Cliff, Scarborough, >100£
23/12/2019: Ditto, is a blast from the past! the decor looks like its not been touched for 20 years and the layout pretty much the same. However, the food an old fashoined service are both fantastic. The food is really clever and fastastic quality, the service is great, very effiecient and professional. They only do one sitting per evening so theres not coveyor belt of tables etc.
13/12/2019: Not been here for a couple of years. Needn’t have worried. The meal was utterly faultless. The service exemplary and the value for money is spot on. The best restaurant in Whitby bar none. Thank you. We won’t leave it so long next time

The Five Fields

Hans Town, Kensington and Chelsea, 60-100£

It was an easy choice among all the options available in the village of Carrbridge. One of our sons came in as if it had been there all his life, so we assume the risk and the truth is that it was not a bad choice. Modern and simple, unpretentious but very functional. Interestingly and to blend with your Wi-Fi but no website ... that marketing! forgivable stuff. We attended immediately and attention was correct. They have a system based on some soups, hot sandwiches, salads, fish and chips and some burgers menu. All well presented and high quality. But it is best to look at the special menu of the day where we can find more typical as I did with my favorite soup, cullen skink dishes, which was here simply delicious.

13/01/2020: Margaret and I celebrated our 39th anniversary before Xmas at Taylor Bonnymans restaurant just off the Kings Road. It is open some lunch-times now and my favourite restaurant beckoned. Jason ( Front of House ) was there to welcome us ,professional, efficient and friendly, so far so good. We had the 3 course menu ( It was so much more ) and a couple of glasses of the excellent house champagne ( Henri Coulon ) and a bottle of a smooth Vino Verde set the scene. The service here is impeccable and in no way pretentious. Sebastien, Lourdis, Solene and Andrea all carried out their roles so well . Taylor and Marguerite were hard at work in the kitchen with the team (No absent Chef Patron here -this is a labour of love ). I cannot begin to understand how he infuses such tastes into each dish and will not attempt to describe it course by course ( just one - the roasted lobster with grapefruit and white truffle and forgive me if I have missed out a couple of ingredients! )

St Helena

Elstow, Bedford, 45-60£
20/01/2020: Headed here for a special dinner, we were very excited based on all the previous reviews, but unfortunately for us we felt whilst well presented the food lacked flavour, not what you want at these prices... won’t be heading back in a hurry.
19/01/2020: We dined there in September which was a late birthday present food was excellent the staff attentive could not have asked for looking forward to our next visit
