The Five Fields

Hans Town, Kensington and Chelsea, 60-100£

It was an easy choice among all the options available in the village of Carrbridge. One of our sons came in as if it had been there all his life, so we assume the risk and the truth is that it was not a bad choice. Modern and simple, unpretentious but very functional. Interestingly and to blend with your Wi-Fi but no website ... that marketing! forgivable stuff. We attended immediately and attention was correct. They have a system based on some soups, hot sandwiches, salads, fish and chips and some burgers menu. All well presented and high quality. But it is best to look at the special menu of the day where we can find more typical as I did with my favorite soup, cullen skink dishes, which was here simply delicious.

01/12/2019: Food, wine, service, everything perfect. The dining room si charming yet simple. We took the 7 course tasting menu which was preceded by 3 amuse bouche. Impeccable presentation, excellent food, attentive and discreet service. Rich cellar. Only drawback too much noise that makes it difficult to conversarece and fully enjoy the splendid culinary experience. Highly recommend.

Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant

Milford, New Forest, 45-60£
05/12/2019: On a cold crisp day we had a delicious lunch at Vervaine. After clever and tasty amuses -bouches we started with a delicious ceviche of lightly smoked sea bass served with a variety of leaves and seaweed. This was followed by fillets of John Dory in a light soy and ponzu sauce, pickled Japanese artichokes and sea vegetables. We finished with good coffee. A skillful, fresh and delightful meal. Service was informed, friendly and excellent.
22/11/2019: Visited Verveine yesterday for the first time so we were not quite knowing what to expect. So just chose from a menu of 2,3,4,6,8, 10 course and sit back and let Verveine do the rest.

The Old Bank

Snettisham, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, >100£
08/11/2019: This was our second visit and didn’t disappoint in any way. The scallop dish was so full of flavours and my halibut was delicious. I can’t praise this little restaurant enough for the Chef’s wonderful food, the front of house stars and behind the scenes workers too! Thank you very much.
01/11/2019: A superb little restaurant with first class cuisine and friendly staff. I had the duck which was cooked to perfection.

Elstow, Bedford, 45-60£
07/12/2019: Raf, Frank and their team never fail to make an evening at St Helena’s a fabulous experience.
10/11/2019: With 4 friends, we went here to celebrate a 40th and a 50th wedding anniversary and 2 big birthdays and we could not ask for a better venue, food or service! Raff and Frank and their staff gave us marvellous treatment and all 6 of us came away having had a splendid evening. It is hard to write anything that hasn't been said elsewhere but this is truly a gem of a place that is well worth a visit. Many thanks Raff for all you did and your delightful entertainment!

Thewitchez Photo Design Cafe Bar

Queen's Park, Brighton and Hove
29/11/2019: It was cosy, intimate and friendly. Staff helpful and did all they could to make the experience perfect. It is like having friends round to have a really nice meal at your place. Food was of course excellent.
27/11/2019: A tiny little independent restaurant (booking recommended!) run by a small team and Shadow the dog, wanting to give you a culinary night to remember. Portions are big, so go hungry. I normally only have a main, though choices were so interesting, and very reasonably priced, that I ended up trying 3 courses. Everything was so tasty, fresh and well presented. The menu is actually quite large and varied, so looking forward to visiting again to try alternatives. Located 5 mins walking distance from the lanes, on the seafront towards marina.

The Olive Tree

Padstow, Cornwall,Isles of Scilly, 20-30£
05/12/2019: We are visiting Padstow for the Christmas Festival, and following brilliant reviews we booked a table at The Olive Tree this evening.
23/11/2019: We had a lovely meal with excellent and friendly service. I had sardines followed by cod, both from the specials menu. The fish was cooked perfectly on each case and both courses were wonderful. My boyfriend enjoyed mushroom bruschetta followed by pork belly. He finished the evening with a treacle tart that he raved about, and I enjoyed a selection of cheeses whilst I finished a glass of excellent Malbec. A wonderful evening to celebrate my upcoming birthday, and when our host heard we were celebrating we were sent home with a little bottle of fizz to have after work on my actual birthday. A really nice touch from a restaurant that serves great food and has a very warm atmosphere - many of the other customers were clearly familiar regulars and I can absolutely see why!

Crave Ice Cream

Ventnor East, Isle of Wight, <20£
06/11/2019: I went here with my two grandsons as I had heard good things about it. It didn't disappoint, very friendly with a huge range of flavours to choose from. Will definitely recommend to everyone.
02/11/2019: Lovely little shop selling a wide variety of ice creams. We had the mango sorbet, mint chocolate and kinda surprise ice cream £2.50 a scoop but it was so creamy and tastful. The owners where so helpful and friendly they let us taste all the flavours. Brought a tub of honeycombe for £1.00 to add to my ice cream at home. Well worth a visit.

Fat Apples Cafe

St Keverne and Meneage, Cornwall,Isles of Scilly, <20£
01/11/2019: Fat Apples is awesome and I can't believe we haven't visited before, as we stay at Tregarne, between St Keverne and Porthallow every autumn break. With the pub in Porthallow currently currently closed, we planned our lunch stop at Porthallow. Fat Apples has a lot to live up to - we had several recommendations. It ticks all the boxes, beautiful outside on a warm autumn day, fantastic friendly and efficient service, alcohol licence if you want it, wonderful salads, they taste as good as they look. The homemade cakes and crumbles are devine. There is a gift shop to mooch around while waiting for your food to arrive. Check the autumn / winter opening times on website. I really recommend walking to the cafe if you can. There were quite a lot of cars squeezed in at peak lunch time and it's only a short walk up the hill from the beach in Porthallow.
28/10/2019: Visited whilst having a short break on the Lizard.

The Cider Barn

Pembridge and Lyonshall with Titley, Herefordshire, County of, 30-45£
29/11/2019: Went for a drive Pembridge and saw the sign for The Cider Barn so decided to make a visit. The interior is really very nice and on entering there is a lovely smell of wood smoke.
20/11/2019: Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch at the Cider Barn, I had the mutton which was very nice. Proprietor was very friendly, humorous and courteous. We all enjoyed the meal and desserts were nice too, though I would have preferred the Panacotta I had to be a little firmer. Quite pricey for a Sunday lunch but will definitely return to sample normal menu.
