Le Vacherin

20/08/2017: I went here with a friend on a Travelzoo offer for Sunday lunch. As it was my first visit I did not know what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. We both had the main sunday roast beef which came with vegetables and was excellent. The lady who greeted and served us was friendly and very helpful. The house red wine was just right for a lunchtime. We felt very relaxed and enjoyed the whole experience enormously. The restaurant filled up almost to capacity after about 2pm and it was a lovely atmosphere not too noisy at all. My starter of gravadlax with rye bread was really nicely presented and tasty, and my companions baked egg with bacon and avocado was unusual and tasty. It was probably the largest yorkshire pud I have ever seen! The vegetables were beautifully al dente and a nice selection. The beef was plentiful and the horseradish homemade. The only minor thing for me personally I would have preferred the tarte au citron to have been more "set" but it tasted fine. It could also do without the red sauce on the plate which I felt detracted from the lemony taste but this is very very minor on my part. The cheese looked good, and as coffee was included in the offer I am happy to report a fantastic expresso. I would like to return soon!
19/08/2017: Decided to take a gamble at the local 'fine dining' restaurant Le Vacherin, found on the corner of Acton Green Common near to Chiswick Park station (district line). Going by the reviews found here, Google, open table & top table, I was looking forward to my time here. We walked into an empty restaurant, considering it had just opened for dinner, this wasn't an issue. In fact, the place did not feel empty for long as it soon filled up with the Friday night crowd. Atmosphere was pleasant and warm. We ordered from the A la carte menu, however, if you book via Open Table there is an Open Table set menu, this menu seemed fair but lacking in any 'stand out' dishes. We both ordered the Scallops, black pudding, bacon & apple puree for starters. The scallops tasted fresh, the black pudding was very smooth, however, too much apple puree seemed to overpower a lot of the other flavours. Our mains were light bites; I had the Courgettes flower tempura with crab mousse and my partner had the walnut, roquefort poached pear salad. ... Unfortunately I can't find any words that could best describe other than 'blah'. Not terrible but certianly not impressive. The crab mousse was Very overpowering and it did not mention on the menu whether it was white or brown crab meat, as there is a distinct difference between the two. (However, you could argue that I should have asked). The roquefort pear salad was plain but 'okay'. Thankfully the waitress was able to compensate for the poor mains with complimentary tea and coffee. Our desserts was a simple chocolate soufflé, again, nothing really stood out. It was.... a chocolate dessert. I do not think we'll be in a hurry to visit Le Vacherin again. The waiting staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was nice, but as the food was its biggest let down. Over priced & bland food within a cosy environment. Such a shame, but with that being said, it is popular among the locals so I do not think this establishment will be missing me.

Tiger Green Brasserie

West End, City of London,Westminster
18/08/2017: I purchased The View from the Shard & Hilton Green Park experience as a gift for my friend's 60th birthday. We had a reservation for 8.30pm on Saturday 12th August in the Tiger Green Brasserie. We expected this to be a very busy time for the restaurant so were extremely surprised to find an almost empty restaurant with only 3 other couples eating there. The room was silent with no atmosphere whatsoever and I can only describe the room as a breakfast room rather than a restaurant and indeed we had full view of the breakfast serving area and buffet! The food was very bland and at best, passable, certainly not the gourmet dining experience we were expecting. The restaurant manager was rude and we left feeling very disappointed with the whole experience. I really can't find one nice, positive thing to say about it. In complete contrast, our visit to the Shard was fantastic. In hindsight, if we had known how bad the dining experience was going to be, we would have just booked a trip to the Shard and found somewhere ourselves to eat on Saturday night. London is abundant with great restaurants with fantastic food & good customer service, so we would have been spoiled for choice. As it is, we were left very unhappy and paid a lot of money for a very poor quality experience.
01/08/2017: Purchased through virgin. Terms hidden or lower down are that you pay a surcharge of 3pounds per person despite having paid for a voucher - this was a surprise thing we found on arrival.Made the reservation online and made it clear we were vegetarians. On arrival given water which was nice. Given choices of tea but could see several were not available. Once the tea had arrived waited about 30min - there had been no discussion or anything during this time as to what was happening next ie. asking us about dietary requirements/allergies... then meat sandwiches came out. Then ended up waiting another 10-15min for the vegetarian to come through by that time our tea was cold. Overall the chaps were nice but the service wasn't great plus to add the surprise surcharges is ridiculous.

21/08/2017: I went with a few friends for a lovely Sunday afternoon tea. Staff were so kind & really looked after us & made us feel welcome. We sat at a table surrounded by chiffon voile curtains - quite private.Food presented beautifully & tea choice was excellent.
21/08/2017: Fantastic Afternoon Tea. Staff were very attentive. We sat in the Library which the room itself is a fantastic room.Highly recommend the Afternoon Tea and the hotel itself is outstanding. The staff could not do enough for you.We will be back.

Fahrenheit Restaurant & Bar

Fountainbridge / Craiglockhart, Edinburgh, City of, 20-30£
22/07/2017: Five of us visited the Fahrenheit Restaurant last Wednesday for my father-in-law's 82nd birthday. The food was excellent and great value for money. The staff were lovely. My sirloin steak was perfect and the profiteroles heavenly. The kitchen is in a glass room within the restaurant so you can see the chefs preparing your meal which was very interesting. All in all a great experience.
18/07/2017: Went in because we saw the advert outside for the £10 sirloin steak meal. So, thought it was worth a try after an early evening cineworld visit. So glad we did, was very nice. The casino was of no interest to us, but the restaurant was pleasant and seemed to have some interesting things on the menu. Would try again.

02/05/2017: The good lady my better half never been to a casino before so while visiting derby this place was next door to our hotel...cocktails 241 and very very good and the food was amazing and a great price highly recommended for a visit great nt had ....
15/04/2017: It's the 2nd time I've eaten in the restaurant and on both occasions the decor, food and service have been on point! It's a really relaxed atmosphere whilst the standard of food makes it as good as any posh restuarant! 6 in the party and we all had 2 drinks each, water, starter and main and the bill came to £160 - that's real value and the food was gorgeous, well presented and you get large portions (especially the ribs as a main). Special mention to Katie who served us, really attentive and a great personality! Nothing was too much and she made sure we were looked after at all times! Pics attached also, I had the terrine for starters and steak for main and this was cooked just how I like it! Great with our visit being on a Friday also - 2 for 1 cocktails that were delicious :) Another lovely visit and we'll be back v soon!

North Pole Piano Restaurant

24 offers
Greenwich West, Greenwich, 20-30£
19/08/2017: A nice enough restaurant with reasonable food and quiet atmosphere. We dined on a Wednesday which was steak night. You get a steam and pint for £15. But the steak is all you get. Chips, salad, sauce are all extra so it's fair value at best. The steak was cooked as requested, but was a standard our steak, not something you'd expect from a restaurant. Service was also slow with just us and one other couple in the restaurant. The beers took almost 20 minutesIf you do order extras, watch for the billing scam. Here's how it works: Sides are listed on the menu as £3.50. On the bill the sides were listed as £4.00. Then further down the bill was a discount of £1.00 (we had two sides). But what many people might not notice is that the 12.5% service charge is calculated on the pre-discount amount. It's a dishonest way to skim extra service chargeIn our case the difference was less than a pound, but I challenged their calculation as a matter of principle. In return I got a lame and unconvincing attempt to explain the calculation as "that's how the service charge is calculated". The waiter was unable to explain why we were charged the wrong price for sides to begin with. The meal itself was three stars, but the slow service and billing scam means North Pole Piano Restaurant only gets one star. Avoid.
09/08/2017: It was a Wednesday, heavy rains and the place was dead. We went in via the bar downstairs and to be honest I wasnt sure we had made the right choice.HOWEVER the food was fabulous. I had the mushroom risotto with asparagus and a side of green beans with shallots. It was the best risotto I have had and a large portion too. The green beans were crunchy and the crispy shallots gave an excellent flavour to them. As it was Wednesday there was a special on the sirloin which the kid had with peppercorn sauce and chips. The steak was perfectly cooked at medium rare and the sauce I am told was the best she had eaten. As for the chips they really were amazing. Thick cut, crispy outside and fluffy inside almost like a roast potato. The bloke had the haddock wrapped on bacon again and excellent dish with a fragrant sauce with prawns in it. Overall excellent food so why the 4 not 5? The addition of a 12.5% service charge as standard. Go upstairs and try it!

16/08/2017: Was at Parliament House Hotel for dinner with family a couple weeks ago on a Saturday. 5 star service and food. Our entire party enjoyed the experience, definitely worth a visit.
13/07/2017: One of the best meals we've had. Service with a smile and the food was genuinely good and sourced in Scotland. I just don't know how they have had such negative reviews. It is tucked away in the basement of a hotel but only a few steps from the east end of Princes street. Well worth a visit

18/08/2017: This Belgian themed restaurant is very handy for theatre land and as it is open all day, ideal for pre theatre food. Specialising in moules and other belgian specialities (including some splendid beers) this is my idea of heaven. The friendly staff are all dressed up (our waiter was a monk) and soon have you seated with a menu. I tried a recommended beer flight and went for the traditional moules mariniere which arrived in a huge pot. They were fresh and extremely tasty. Overall a very enjoyable meal and well worth looking up. highly recommended.

Galvin Bistrot de Luxe

23 offers
Marylebone High Street, City of London,Westminster
18/08/2017: We took some friends and had a nice relaxed Sunday lunch. The Galvin group always offer a quality French style lunch and are very good value for money if you want to enjoy a bit of style and quality food. You can have a very good set lunch with quite a good selection from four choices for each course. I had the Orkney Sea Scallop ceviche with picked cucumber, pink ginger - very light and zingy - loved it. I then had caramelised duck confit which was beautifully cooked and again lived up to expectations. I didn't have a dessert but the two courses I had were very enjoyable. Many of our group had the classic roast lamb or beef and enjoyed them although the potatoes were a little disappointing. My husband elected to have the baby au rhum - which is a blast from the past but that was probably the most disappointing thing we have ever tried at any Glavin restaurant. Having said that otherwise everything else was great and of quality with nicely priced wines and good options for just a glass in a great ambience.
18/08/2017: A special surprise meetup with my sister, who chose this restaurant based on reviews, occaisioned our visit. We were assigned a center aisle table, and I swear every time the hostess or a server passed, they banged my chair. Pretty soon, my husband and I were squashed together trying to stay out of everyone's way! I could have tolerated this because of the tight quarters, but not once did anyone mutter "sorry" as they thumped me. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, and by the time our passable meal arrived, I was thoroughly annoyed by the lack of manners. The emphasis seemed to be on shoveling out the food as quickly and gracelessly as possible. Perhaps to get the table cleared for the next "guest?" There have to be better options in London.

The Balcon

22 offers
St James's, City of London,Westminster
21/08/2017: We were given a Red letter day voucher and used it to go to the Balcon for their seven course tasting menu with a glass of champagne. It was easy to book at only a week's notice on a Saturday too so perhaps not so popular?Nice venue and we were given a choice of tables. Champagne took some time to come and we had to chase it but waiters were pleasant enough. The courses were very substantial - more like starters than tasters but all were good if not haute cuisine ( lobster croquets with cheese sauce, gazpacho, buratta, foie gras, pigs cheek,, chocolate mousse and cheese) Although we did not agree with it, the foie gras with mascarpone and tarte tatin was delicious, best of the bunch.Overall nice but portions a bit on the heavy side and heavy on cheese and a bit pricey.
20/08/2017: Lovely dinner in a very elegant décor with an amazingly friendly and professional staff. Food was delicious, one of the few places in London where you can have steak tartare made on a guéridon. Just fantastic!

Belgo Noord

Haverstock, Camden
28/07/2017: We had a dinner there yesterday. There is a large choice of mussels, Belgian speciality, and of course lots of Belgian beer. I was not very happy with my meal, me and my partner both had a burger which was not very tasty and you could clearly see it was made in a rush. That's excusable as this place specializes in other kind of food (I didn't have mussels as I am vegetarian). Waiters were friendly but not very quick. One thing that left me very frustrated - when we were leaving just near the entrance one of the waiters was putting fries into the bowls, and few fries were lying on the floor... good first impression for those who enter the restaurant to see food lying like this on the floor...If Belgo sorts out this problem with cleanliness and food hygiene, it could be a very nice place to have a drink.
26/07/2017: Came here a few days ago for a friend's birthday meal as the place we originally booked lost our reservation. The manager (Giggsy!) was so helpful and kind, found us a great table and looked after us - his recommendation and knowledge of beers was excellent! We will definitely come back. Great food too.

Genting Club Westcliff

15/07/2017: Will never come here again The waiters kept getting the order wrong and the steaks were tough or over cooked. Menu was limited and music so loud could not talk at the table. Will not be returning.
12/07/2017: Went to celebrate a birthday. Decided to have dinner at the reatuarant. Food was good but menu could be more exciting - not much for vecgatarians. Bar menuavailable when retaurant is closed - good selection too of drinks.Ambiance was nice. Casino good - just decide on the limit you are prespared to lose - and what a bonis when you win. Great professional satff who are always there to help. Enjoy

Fahrenheit at Genting Club

City Centre, Manchester
12/08/2017: We booked for a pre theatre meal. There was no warning so it wasn't until we arrived that it became clear that you need to enter a Casino. Which you can't do with a child. We found somewhere else. This isn't a restaurant it's a casino with food.
27/07/2017: Visited with friends before the theatre. The food was excellent, a very good choice of meals on the menu and very well cooked. There is a 2 course or 3 course menu which is incredible value for money and you can have a bottle of wine with it for £10. Would go again.

Egerton House Hotel

Brompton, Kensington and Chelsea
27/07/2017: My husband and I had Afternoon Tea at the Egerton on our first day in London. It was a lovely experience. This was our first time having formal tea so we weren't sure what to expect. However, we were not disappointed. The friendly and knowledgeable staff explained to us the various tea options. So we decided to go with the Assam blend. We absolutely loved it. After a few cups, we were brought a three tiered tray with finger sandwiches, scones and cakes. We continued to enjoy more tea as well. Everything was delicious! We stayed for an 1 1/2 and enjoyed every minute. It was truly an amazing way to kick start our London Trip!
21/07/2017: Our first trip to London did not disappoint and the Egerton House Hotel & staff was a big part of the reason why we had such a great experience. Not only was the staff warm and welcoming, they also helped two novice international travelers get around town (and out of town to Liverpool and back) and made us feel comfortable from the minute we stepped through the door. Accommodations were first rate, especially if you are looking for a more intimate, B&B type vibe. Great location - in the heart of it all but still feels private. Close to great shopping and all major tourist spots either by foot or a quick walk to the underground. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. You won't go wrong with the Egerton!

Fahrenheit Balcony Restaurant, Genting

26/09/2016: We visited early on a Saturday evening and although it was rather empty when we arrived the place soon filled up. The menu is limited but offers a good selection of dishes. The prawn cocktails were nicely presented and lovely and fresh. The steaks were well cooked and very tasty. The wine was also very good and the service was excellent. It was very interesting watching the people playing roulette whilst we were enjoying our meal. This a good place if you want a great value for money meal and the opportunity for some gambling fun or just watching others play.
18/01/2016: Good value and good service. The meal was good and we had a pleasant experience.
