Lansdown, Cheltenham
19/12/2020: We visited midweek for dinner. As usual the food was delightful. I went for the Lamb meets the wolf starter - lamb c 10 ways absolutely fabulous and followed it with the rabbit and mustard source again lovely. My wife went with the Xmas foxes price menu and loved it. Service is prompt but not overbearing. Always a pleasure to come back!
13/12/2020: L’Artisan was just simply sublime. Amazing French food, the horsechoux in particular is worth a mention - an example of perfect patisserie - with a special Christmas mulled wine flavour! The staff were attentive and we had a nice conversation with Yves at the end of the meal who wanted to make sure we were happy - which was a nice touch and of course we were! There was an excellent wine selection, a gorgeous amuse bouche, and sublime starters and mains. All were perfectly presented and good sized portions. Highly recommend for fine dining in Cheltenham.

Edie's Kitchen

St Austell Bay, Cornwall,Isles of Scilly
04/11/2020: We dropped into the area for a weekend break and were recommended this restaurant. Located at the end of a small, understated parade of shops we may easily have walked past if we hadn't already booked and what a mistake that would have been. Service excellent but the food was amazing and really made our day. Delicious oxtail starter which I never wanted to end. Fish cooked to perfection and each plate was simply excellent in its simplicity and combination of flavours. It was food that puts a smile on your face - already planning to go back next year.
04/11/2020: We spent a very pleasant lunchtime at this restaurant. The service was excellent, the staff were very amenable and the food we had was fabulous. We had the vegetarian menu which had flare and imagination, this is such a change. If anyone wants a very enjoyable brunch, lunch or dinner don’t hesitate to try Edie’s.

La Flambe Restaurant

Kington, Wiltshire
21/12/2020: The restaurant appear very inviting from the outside. However it is over priced and the waiters take your plates away before you have finished eating.Pate starter was good. However the bread very very dry.For main we both had pork mine was raw in the middle with blood coming out of it. To say it was swimming in sauce would be an understatement. The veg was boiled and bland. For desert of brownie I was very disappointed it was more like a stodgy cake than an delicious crispy top and gooey middle brownie.
01/11/2020: Fantastic experience as ever. Great food great service and an excellent venue. We will certainly come back again.

Quite Simply French

Castle, Lancaster, 45-60£
10/12/2020: As we are in tier 3 and there is no where to go we decided to book takeaway to collect from QSF. It was beautiful. It was placed in the boot of the car and we drove sedately all the way home.We were not disappointed with the food. It was everything I have come to expect from QSF. So tasty. My mouth is still watering from the lovely food. What a treat for a Thursday. So happy we tried this. We definitely recommend this if you are unable to book in due to Covid restrictions.Thank you QSF
06/12/2020: Treated ourselves to a wonderful Sunday lunch by click and collect. The meal was perfect, excellent tender roast sirloin of beef with the trimmings. All made even more special by the brilliant service. Hoping you'll be able to open properly again soon, but we will be ordering again soon.

La Boheme

Lymm, Warrington
16/12/2020: I have travelled past this restaurant many times and always wondered what it would be like. Finally made the effort to get booked in and I am so glad we did, it was excellent. We were the first group in at 5.00pm opening on the second Saturday before Christmas. COVID prep and protection was excellent. Service was great from start to finish, just the right level of attention, thank you.Food was just fabulous. Star starter was probably the trio of pork but there were no disappointments. Main courses included the chateaubriand, which was rare and like butter - you didnt need to chew! The lamb was also excellent and the duck sublime. Desserts included the sticky toffee bread pudding special, the tarte au citron and the hazelnut ring - all incredible. All great value too, thank you to the team at La Boheme, we will be back soon.
13/12/2020: My last review was Christmas 2009 (and it was very positive then too), but this time it was a take away, and I have to say it was excellent. We had the the roast lamb Sunday dinner, and it was perfectly cooked, and with a great selection of vegtables... even some warm bread !Has to be the best (and best value for money) take way Sunday dinner in the area !We might get another in before the end of 2020

Maison Bleue Restaurant

Abbeygate, St Edmundsbury
18/12/2020: We have been wanting to go here for a few years and finally got to go. It was truly worth the wait. The food service everything was to the highest standard. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I truly think it’s a michelin standard restaurant.
16/12/2020: Booked in for my birthday lunch. (Do book as COVID19 restrictions mean they have less tables). It was a lovely dining experience from start to finish, with attentive staff and a lovely menu. The amuse bouche and petit fours were a lovely addition. For a restaurant of this quality, the pricing was very reasonable. I can’t wait to return!

the crab hut

Tophill East, Weymouth and Portland, >100£
15/11/2020: We booked this based on other reviews & were not disappointed. The booking process was easy and was COVID secure, good space between tables. We visited a little 'out of season' to be sitting outside, so it was cold. There were heaters and plastic screens though. There was a good selection of food and some 'theatre' with the whole crab, a hammer and branded 'bib'. Made for some good photos. Food was delicious and I would highly recommend.
05/11/2020: Food was fab. Location is beautiful. Staff were attentive and friendly. Best fish linguine I've ever eaten. Wonderful.

Chez Lindsay

South Richmond, Richmond upon Thames, >100£
16/12/2020: Fantastic genuine cuisine, excellent staff and atmosphere! Cannot fault it! The food was freshly prepared and extremely tasty. The savoury galettes are a must to try.
15/12/2020: My colleague and I visited the restaurant for lunch earlier this month. The service was absolutely brilliant-typical of a french restaurant, attentive and patient. I had the soup to start which was heavenly, my colleague had the Camembert. We indulged and went for the large shellfish platter to share. We had a wonderful bottle of Viognier, recommended by the waitress and then my friend treated us to champagne too. A fabulous experience. I do hope to return once things change next year!

The Opposition Bistro

Stratford Guild and Hathaway, Stratford-on-Avon, 45-60£
03/11/2020: I had heard fab things about this place, and it measured up to my lofty expectations in every way. The crisp Picpoul de Pinet was delicious and reasonably priced. The sea bass special was very well conceived and executed; the clever fennel boulangere was immaculately presented and very tender, the shellfish veloute was very flavoursome but velvet smooth. Places like this really ought to survive, and I very much hope they do so I can visit again and again in the future.
02/11/2020: We visited for a meal on a Saturday night. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very accomodating. The menu was clear and there was a good choice of food. Although the portions were slightly small, the food was wonderful.

Guildhall, York, 20-30£
13/12/2020: Not called for ages after things changed for us. Called to try it again. It’s still really good! Super welcome, excellent staff, great fixed price deal, good wine selection, and most importantly great hot, tasty food - just as we remembered. Wonderful atmosphere, upstairs is as good as down. Good portion sizes, excellent veg, (extra) recommend the red cabbage. Nice to be there again, back on our list to call again!
05/12/2020: First time eating here, came for our anniversary 2 days out of lockdown. Restaurant confirmed they were still open. Value for money £20 for a 3 course meal is incredible, never had such fast and kind service but none of the quality ever suffered. 11/10, could not fault it!!

Gauthier Soho

West End, City of London,Westminster, 60-100£
25/11/2020: We have eaten numerous time as Gauthier over the years but hadn't been there for over a year. We went for a late lunch at 2 pm. When we arrived our temperature was taken and then we were shown to our table on the ground floor. All the tables were socially distanced and there were thin gossamer drapes hanging from the ceiling between tables as a barrier. The menus were personalised so you could take them with you after the meal. The lunch menu was for 4 courses and we chose the deluxe version which included 2 glasses of wine, a glass of champagne & coffee. There was a similar vegetarian option - the Menu Vert. After a amuse bouche our starter was Scottish scallops with paprika & coral jus - excellent and full of flavour. The next course was an Italian truffle risotto - again perfectly cooked. The main course was either North Atlantic cod which my wife chose or the Norfolk quail which I chose. Both again were delicious The final course was either a selection of cheese or the restaurant's signature dessert of Golden Louis XV, dark chocolate covering a crispy pralin. Having eaten the Golden Louis many time before we both chose the cheese. The food was delightful throughout and beautifully presented. The service could not be faulted, professional, attentive but very friendly. A fabulous lunch and excellent value for money
18/11/2020: Has taken me a while to write up this review as I know how restaurants are struggling. Saying that, I feel that they are giving up, not serving the standard of food we the clients deserve.Whether in a pandemic or not, you're as good as your last dinner and this meal was a total let down. The setting is beautiful, fabulous ambience.Gauthier isn't cheap and expectations are high because of this. The first few dishes that came out were delicious and delicate, my son and I love to eat together at restaurants like Gauthier, we love to discuss the dishes and what we enjoy about them. In the middle of the 7/8 course vegan meal we both received half a aubergine. it was totally out of place, huge, ugly and really unappetising. We both sent it back, no apology, no suggestion of would you like something instead. so, we just carried on with the next courses. Same happened at the end of the desserts, we enjoyed a couple of beautiful delicious desserts which ended with this huge chocolate bomb, why did it have to be so big. It was off putting having eaten such beautiful delicate dishes. We nibbled a bit of each and just told them it was too much.Bill came, no discount for the aubergine dishes which we didn't eat, no apology, nothing.Friends have been sending me the Gauthier vegan take away menu that they thought we might like but I just will not take the chance on a £75 a head take away meal when the restaurant just couldn't get it right. So upset that we were so disappointed, we really wanted to love the meal.

Galvin La Chapelle

Spitalfields and Banglatown, Tower Hamlets
17/12/2020: We had the menu gourmand which was a very well balanced tasting menu. Excellent to see red mullet on a Michelin starred menu.
15/12/2020: Fantastic and delicious as always! Despite COVID, La Chapelle still provides cosy solace and excellent inventive cuisine.

The Guildhall Tavern

Poole Town, Poole, >100£
20/12/2020: Lovely lunch, in very tasteful and relaxing atmosphere with great service. This restaurant is beautiful with wonderful food and superb value. I would go again and again- utterly charming. Excellent.
12/12/2020: Normally we enjoy attending the restaurant, but due to Covid this year its not been possible. So was overjoyed to see the option of a takeaway service, the chance to have a treat and support a lovely family run business during these tricky times. We have had a number of takeaways over the past 6 months and have been really impressed. The same friendly and high level of service. The quality of food is superb, as we have come to expect when previously visiting and the menu has grown.Well done guys and we'll deffinatly be returning again soon :)

Truffles French Restaurant

Fareham East, Fareham, 20-30£
13/12/2020: We went for a birthday celebration meal and had a fantastic experience. There is a romantic atmosphere but not too dark and we arranged for a bottle of Prosecco to be put on ice for our arrival. The menu was not too extensive but catered for all tastes and every dish was exceptional. The smoked pheasant starter was a real delight and the beef fillet main was cooked to perfection (we had it rare). The sticky toffee pudding was really tasty and the local cheese board was well balanced and delicious. Overall, a very memorable meal and we will definitely be back.
10/12/2020: In common with all small businesses this year has been challenging support your local restaurant. Seasonal food locally sourced what more can you want. Their takeaway pies are rather good as well...

Yalbury Cottage

Charminster and Cerne Valley, West Dorset, 30-45£
20/12/2020: Encouraged by previous reviews we booked a one night dinner bed and breakfast. Despite the current Covid restrictions there was a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The food was of excellent quality, perfectly cooked and presented with a few interesting elements like the delicious Scots Pine. Service was professional and friendly. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Overall a very enjoyable experience which we hope to repeat in the future.
07/12/2020: Right from booking, to arrival at the restaurant to leaving, the experience was absolutely fantastic. The warm and welcomed arrival at Yalbury was instantly experienced as we notified the host of our arrival. The before-lunch beverage in the garden provided a chance to relax and take in the scenery before then moving into the quaintly decorated restaurant. Food was outstanding with generous portions, all served by friendly and experienced service staff.
