Waited way too long for food and were very underwhelmed with Both presentation and standard. Just very average at best. It was also very cold where we were sitting in the booths at the back. Service was exceptionally slow both for food to arrive and clearing the table. We had to ask for them to clear the table. We will certainly not be returning. All food was overcooked in particular the fish, which was more batter than fish and burnt. Portion sizes for starters and desserts we felt rather on the small size. Overall exceptionally disappointed. Not good value for money. Perhaps stick to being a pub and don’t bother with the food.

Down to earth place. And go understanding that.

Amazing value coffee/pastry from the café inside Waitrose store. Even better, we were served by the loveliest of waitress’(s) Emily and Neve. Great coffee and a lovely way to make shopping less stressful 👍

Excellent fish and chips with the lightest crunchiest batter and juicy succulent fish. As a female solo visitor (walking Ayrshire Coastal Path) I enjoyed the relaxing room upstairs and the staff were ultra friendly.

Started off pretty good, though it quickly deteriorated. As we were the last customers in the restaurant ( we were told it was open) we pretty much got whatever food was left over. It was cold, obviously been sitting for ages and we left most of it. We found out later that there was only a trainee chef on duty and he left as soon as we were served. Initially the room was also ok, being of a good size and pleasant. However it was stiflingly hot (you couldn't touch the radiators) so we had to open the window. ( we had actually asked in an email previously if the heating could be turned down as we prefer a cooler room) Bad idea... the outside was full of drinkers till late into the morning, so between the noise and the heat, we didn't sleep much at all. Half way into the night, my wife decided to have a refreshing shower. Another very bad idea... The hot water was not far off boiling (no mixer taps or plug so you couldn't safely wash your hands in the sink). The shower water was just as hot as the temperature dial didn't work and then she couldn't close the shower door. As a builder I quickly noticed that the main bracket holding the entire glass screen to the ceiling was totally missing. Anyone attempting to move the shower door ran the very real risk of collapsing the glass screen, the results of which would not bear thinking about. After a long, hot, hungry, noisy and unpleasant night, we just got up and left. As the previous owner of a number of self catering properties, I am aware of the need for feedback, so I emailed the owner explaining why we left so suddenly and my very serious concerns over the dangerous hot water and the very dangerous shower screen. I expressed my opinion that the room should be shut down immediately until repairs were made. Under no circumstances, could the cleaner/owner not have known the condition of the shower and the hot water. The owner initially responded and apologised, stating that the room would be closed and repairs would be done asap. I was also told I would be refunded in full for the room and food, and offered another booking. After this initial offer I never heard from them again. We never received a refund or details to make another booking. I emailed them again a month or so later but my email was ignored. As a business owner, I am acutely aware of the need for maintenance. The maintenance of this room was negligent, dangerous and should an actual accident have occurred, the insurance pay out would have been huge. This is why I chose to talk directly to the owner instead of posting a poor review. I am posting this now as they failed to do anything at all and I was pretty much fobbed off.

We stumbled into here by accident. We are from Philly, USA, and were curious by its name. We had wanted to try fried haggis and a fried Mars bar before we left Scotland, so we figured why not here. The man working was so hospitable and wonderful to us. They didn't sell fried Mars bars, so he told us to run across the street to the supermarket to grab one and he'd fry it for us. While we waited for our food, he gave our toddler chips to eat and chatted about his family. The fried haggis and Mars bar we're still raving about. We really enjoyed our spur of the moment stop here.

What a total disgrace of a place. Definately not worth a penny. Menu states minimum of 3 meats but woman carving tells me i can have more than 3. Veg was still raw. Roast potatoes certainly do not see the oven. 3 pots of gravy sitting with thick skin on them. I have never heard or seen of having mac n cheese with a carvwry but need to to make the plate look like it has food on it. When complained about it the server just looked at us as if to say so what. £14.49 each x3 £4.05 for a refill glass and machine is flat. If i had it my way and my partner wasnt such a coward i would have walked out and never paid a penny. Can rest assure we will never step foot in that establishment again. 1 star is being generous only to be able to make a review

I won a prize at a charity afternoon which was lunch for 2 with a bottle of prosecco. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Good food, lovely prosecco, cheerful atmosphere with rugby on in background. Thanks Linen 1906, we will be back! Would 100% recommend.
