The Riverside Inn in Dundee City

I'd describe the riverside inn as higher end pub food. Never disappointed. The staff are super friendly, attentive and genuinely make you feel welcome. The best part is that it's dog friendly.

Sunny days and a river-view inn make for the perfect choice! The food looks good, the service was good, and the atmosphere was pleasant. We requested a fully done egg on our toast, and they made it perfectly. The pancakes were not bad at all but extra syrup would have been good. The coffee was tasty too. I’ll try to visit again for lunch. Breakfast was worth trying!

They have made changes to the lunch time menu and certain offers have been removed. Go here on a regular basis but more recently the food has been below par.

The food was good when it eventually arrived. Considering how quiet the place was, it took almost 40 minutes to get our meal. Low score for atmosphere as I said, the place was quiet. I would probably go back but service definitely needs improvement.

Food (when we eventually got it) was average, service very slow and disorganised but she servers were polite and apologetic. However the management was incredibly poor and not in the slightest bit interested in anything. We four have been meeting here on a regular basis over the past few years and had this been our first visit I doubt very much if we would be back. When we commented to the manager that there was a general lack of organisation it was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders. Not good.

The play area is handy for families with children and a prime spot for mum meet-ups I’ve been here lots as it is dry and warm but that it the only reason we are here. The food is basic. Really basic. Avocado on toast is like a green paste from a tube smeared onto toast apparently it’s guacamole!! No vegetarian sausages Poached eggs look like a preschooler made them. Blah just so blah. No one comes here for the dining experience. Try at your peril.

Friendly and helpful staff, lovely food

Walked in to a very quiet restaurant and stood for 5 minutes waiting to be seated, while we were looked at by servers and blatantly ignored so ended up leaving. Even just to be acknowledged to say someone would be a minute instead of stared at and ignored would’ve been slightly better.

I come here regularly with my daughter, and we love it! The eat-and-play area is great, and the service is always excellent. On one occasion, Bartosz served us, and he was fantastic. Friendly staff, great atmosphere - highly recommend!

Quite quite was near 8.30pm so was lucky still cooking, staff were polite and helpful. Food was very tasty and nice portion size and good price. Would have no problem coming back again. Visited again staff were polite and friendly food still tasty and nice portion size for 12.99 toilets spotless as was the dining room and warm .

First time visiting here . . Made welcome . . Only thing was when ordering our meal . We got our tea and coffee but had to wait that long on our breakfast roll coming the tea and coffee were cold which we would've liked with our breakfast . . Had to order a cold drink so we had something to drink with our roll . Wasn't really that warm once it was served . .

It is a modification of our previous review Because today one of the waiters was not so friendly and I felt she was not welcoming our attendance. During paying the pill, we couldn't use the machine on the right way on the first time، she was looking to use in a strange way. I think I will not go there again ............. It is our first time Nice place Kind staff Warm atmosphere We had a white flat and a cappuccino. They were delicious. The kids area is not very big, but it is very safe I would recommend adding an opening and opening more windows for more fresh air especially during sunny hot days As a whole, it is recommended

This is mine and my dad’s favourite restaurant to visit very friendly staff always goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome nice atmosphere food is excellent would absolutely recommend

Went in for lunch with the family. Two bar staff were chatting away before realising we were waiting for a table. Restaurant was almost empty just a few customers dotted around, she told us they had no tables available. After noticing us scanning around the restaurant for all the empty tables she announced there was a “problem in the kitchen”. Why not just speak the truth in the first place. Then she went back to chatting away with her colleague. Anyway, was disappoining having to leave with an excuse like that

This is an honest review of the Riverside Inn, Dundee, on January 15, 2025. My son and I decided to go there for dinner. We ordered the steak and ale pie with chips and peas. When it arrived, we looked forward to eating it, but first impressions weren’t very good. Everything was lukewarm, from the chips to the meat and pastry in the pie. The same was true for my son’s meal. Though we were hungry, we ate it all, as I didn’t want to put my son off. The temperature would have been suitable for a baby’s meal. Unfortunately, my wife had taken my grandson and daughter to the Marks and Spencer cafe, and they had no complaints. I’m glad I used my Blue Light Card discount for 15% off. Well, I can assure you, I know it’s cheap food, but the staff were really nice, and I didn’t want to cause a fuss in front of the other diners. Will I be back? No chance. I’m really disappointed. Dropped in with a 4 year old and his M&D before they flew back home from Dundee Airport. M&D were gobsmacked at how easy it was to find a cheap and cheerful play zone for the wee man, compared to London. Good job Riverside Inn👌 We weren't there for any other reason than to kill time before a flight. The hot chocolates that were ordered were OK though, despite not all of them coming wit a Flake.

Dinner here tonight was good...calamari and nachos to start, both amazingly tasty and plentiful. Lovely Christmas cocktail with rum and ginger beer...very good price. Hubby had the meat free burger to top off the meal, which was good and well cooked, I opted for the macaroni...bit disappointed, lack of pasta through the sauce and the sauce wasn't particularly cheesy....tasted like it had been thickened with a thickner...maybe cornflour? Lovely atmosphere and the staff are fantastic.

Great place for lunch, food was a bit bland but that seems to be the norm wherever you go as chefs are no longer adding seasoning. I added my own and enjoyed the experience, this place is also dog friendly.

Food was poor the starters was burnt and lacked more cheese, main course steak pie warm not hot little beef in it, asked for peas got wrong kind. Partner had the fish poor quality no salad, desert was poor, 2 soft drinks bill was £51.03 . Next problem was very young children screaming, should of been in there beds not dragged out to a restaurant. They should be told after a time like 7 pm not aloud in. Over all not worth the money and won't be back

The place was on the cool side. The food was Ok. However, the steak was not hot and was very chewy and tough.

Sunday lunch walk in. Met by friendly staff. Food was well presented but sadly not the best. We all had a carvery. Soggy yorkies, I'm guessing microwave reheated Yorkshire puddings and smothered in cheap, packet thick and salty gravy. If we'd had crispy Yorkshire puddings and homemade gravy that wasn't so salty and gloopy we would have scored higher. Surprised the gravy was not home made to be honest. The gravy smothering the food really ruined the meal, but we were all hungry we scraped it off to eat it, having travelled.

Customer service lacking. Food was good, although took a longtime to come, maybe more staff needed. Servers need to learn good customer service. Simple smile goes a long way.

We enjoyed a lovely meal, but the service between courses was slow. Maybe busier on Fridays, but won't be hurrying back.

Waiting almost an hour for breakfast is definitely too long, the rest is ok.

This place is great. Has a little outdoor play area as well as an indoor, kept the kids entertained till the food arrived. Food was spot on and very reasonable but, above all the staff were fantastic! They were down a couple of bodies and the place was pretty busy but the guy and woman maning the helm were on point! Really friendly, really patient. Such a credit to the restaurant!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful pub with my elderly parents, my wife, and our 1-year-old son, and I can’t express enough how delightful the experience was. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a bubbly young lady named Courtney, whose warm smile and genuine kindness instantly made us feel welcome. What truly stood out was her connection with our son—unlike the usual eye roll we sometimes get when bringing a baby to a restaurant, Caroline’s eyes lit up, and she immediately engaged with him. She even got a smile out of him, which made our hearts melt. Despite the pub being full of diners, the service was prompt and efficient, and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. The quality of the meals was exceptional—everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into both the food and the customer experience. What really set this place apart was the dedicated area for kids to play in. It made it so much easier for us to enjoy our meal knowing our son had a space to keep him entertained. But it was Caroline who truly made our visit memorable. Throughout our stay, she went above and beyond, checking in with us regularly, making sure my parents were comfortable, and ensuring we had everything we needed. Her warmth and attentiveness turned an ordinary Wednesday lunch into something really special. I hope everyone who visits this pub gets the privilege of experiencing Courtney's service. She is a true gem, and we will definitely be returning thanks to her and the overall fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Went out for lunch during half term, while was busy, Courtney was attentive and made sure we were well looked after - not overly checking in but just hitting the right balance. Food was great, the lentil soup was tasty and the burgers as always were on point!

We went in today to have tea as it was a birthday celebration. We were shown to a nice seat and we ordered food. There was a rump steak and a chicken fajitas dish. The food was beautifully cooked and staff came and asked how we were and how the food was. Everything was lovely. We then ordered a sweet each. My apple crumble came in a small dish on a plate and a small jug of custard. The dish the crumble came in was absolutely burning hot so I was careful putting it onto the plate and covered it in the custard. I then carefully took some of the piping hot food to find that the apples inside were not so hot and a bit cold. No one came back and asked how the food was . We just left after that. Not the best of ends to the meal. Are the sweets not tested for the heat before serving? Although the dish was very very hot it doesn’t mean the food inside is hot .

I have never reviewed a restaurant before but this meal was so terrible I had to. If I could recommend Gordon Ramsays “kitchen disasters” to a place it would be this one. We came in and sat on the bar side and noticed a few dirty tables but thought nothing of it. For the entire meal, those dishes sat there not a single server came and cleaned up one table. It was truly disgusting. Not only did it take probably over an hour and a half for our meals to come, but everything was overcooked / soggy and cold. We could barely eat the meals it was so bad. We honestly would’ve walked out if we hadn’t already payed. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

This was our second visit to the pub and grill and we arrived for lunch. We were served by Fiona who was very attentive and guided us to a brilliant seat beside the kids playroom so our daughter could play and we could keep an eye on her. Fiona was brilliant and very friendly, a real asset to a place like this. The chicken burger was the best I have ever tasted, so compliments to the chefs too. 6 stars!

Waited about half an hour for our meal think they forgot about it I had the mini grill chicken was very badly over done they forgot my egg and had to bring it out separately which was also covered in burnt bits. My partner had the the fajitas there were also very badly over done all the veg was burnt.

As per review today on fish and chips, and mini grill. The waitress apologised profusely about the meal, none of which was her fault, she was so nice and friendly. HOWEVER. The duty manager who refunded the meal didn't even apologise. So ignorant, obviously not bothered whether she has customers or not. I’ve worked in hospitality for 20+ years and seriously question how or why this person was employed in a management position.

First visit for a long time and will certainly be back...everything was excellent!

Waitress was lovely. Front of house were lovely. Unfortunately the food was just terrible. Orders were mixed up, items were missing from plates. The steak we ordered “well done” was genuinely black and crunchy. I can’t make this stuff up. I’ve never tried steak that tasted like burnt toast. Gravy was like water. No sauce with the cremated steak. Yorkshire puddings were stale. I really just can’t recommend this place. The floors were extremely slippy too, I slipped twice. My kids had fun, but the food took a while so they were fussing. Which was surprising because it was honestly very quiet.

Pulled up after a long drive commute restaurant empty nice sunny day to be greeted by “We aren’t serving food for another hour we are short staffed”. Wasted journey and time

Really run down and quite dirty in places. We were near the soft play but and it took over an hour for two adult meals and a kids meal to come out. The place was totally dead when we got there too, less than 10 tables of people in the whole place even at the busiest we saw it.

Staff were pleasant and food was excellent.....Fresh and hot and really tasty, but given that the place was not particularly busy, the service was extremely slow...Two hours for lunch was excessively long, so you wouldn't want to be in a hurry! We had no other engagements, so found it quite relaxing, but if you're looking for a quick lunch during a working day, this may not be for you.

Had the Tomahawk steak what an absolute beast of a piece of meat probably one of best steaks had, very well cooked tbh and staff are very friendly and humerous would most definitely come again ❤️ Fiona's service and banter was second to none 👍

Quick to take order but it took along time to come and then only half the order arrived. So by the time the second part of the order arrived the others had to wait for us! Very poor considering the where not that busy.

Had a terrible experience, service was non existent, guts clearly only interested in shutting up and going home. Tried to overcharge us TWICE! Told to hurry re ordering then left for 30 mins without even a drink. Waited for an hour for main course. Then no one to get drinks. Then suddenly last drink orders at 10.15 although open to 11. Guy from kitchen coming out giving us dirty looks. We had booked but treated like we were toouch effort from the off. Very very bad service and better check your bill carefully! Guy didn't even apologise, just a surly don't know how that happened. If you like good welcoming service avoid the guys that work here.

Food was on point, chips weren't dry and all the meats were succulent, atmosphere was calm and welcoming, flexible accommodations when it came to substitutions and additional sauces were available. Check back was a bit early, id have left it a little bit longer maybe 5 minutes as I just started eating and i got a check back. Also coasters would be a nice touch so the drinks arent dampening the table but I folded a napkin instead but didn't distract me from the overall positive experience. Guiness was poured well within the margins and crisp to the touch which is always a great thing to see. Overall good job, well done.

I came by Riverside for a light lunch in town and the food was not bad as bad as some of the other reviews claim. I had the fish finger sandwich with fries and truffle aioli. The sandwich bread was nice and soft and I enjoyed the salad. I felt like the sandwich was a bit bland. It needed a sharper sauce to cut through the fatty fish but overall it was pretty good! With so few options for food in Dunblane, Riverside is just fine.

We came with four young ladies (8 years and under) who had demanded to return having eaten there previously. We like to sit outside, but this time it was indoors, next to the play area. I don't remember much about the food or anything, but the girls enjoyed the food, we had a few drinks and it was all in all a very pleasant experience. So, recommended for adults who want a decent pub and one of the few with views of the Tay, and for youngsters who want a decent plate of good and a grand play area.

We were here for brunch with out 2 year old granddaughter. We ordered the kids full breakfast for her, adults breakfast for my husband and I had the pancakes. We were not disappointed. My husband even said it was the best breakfast he'd had at a restaurant for a long time.....including Premier Inn!!! The pancakes were light and fluffyand the bacon plentiful and crispy. Some extra maple syrup served would've been good. The kids breakfast was excellent. Obviously my granddaughter didn't eat it but the choice on the plate was great and she had a bit of everything. Grandad helped her with the rest!!! The kids play area was clean but quite small. I'm glad there were only 6 children there. I think 10 or 12 would've been an absolute maximum. We did have to wait but the food was freshly cooked so it was worth it. There is nothing worse than paying for stuff that's been thrown on a microwave and slapped on a plate. We'll be back for brunch again.

Tidy Pub, friendly staff and good variety of food. Wonderful outside sitting area. Inside is a kind of indoor playground which I have never seen before like this and I thought it looked great. It was very busy and it got very noisy with all the people in there which I am personally not a big fan of. Once we got our food we were a bit surprised that some had ordered the same dish but yet the one had the Rosemary fries as advertised and the other one had the chunky chips. The one got a wee bowl of coleslaw the other one didn't. And a few other things like that with other dishes. The food was tasty but unfortunately the rosemary fries had not the slightest hint of rosemary on it. All together we had a good time there and we would go back there if we ever travel that direction again but than I hope the weather is nice and we can sit outside.

Enjoyed a nice, hot meal. Don't do all-day breakfast, finished at11am. Two meals and two drinks, £34.00. Not too busy, Service was good. Looked up to see dust, cobwebs, high level cleaning required.

Cheery staff, lovely location, dog friendly and when it's sunny , great to eat outside.. First rate pub grub and the airport runaway is an interesting vista. One of those great Dundee places, on the cycle path and facing Fife. Highly recommended.

Tried it out as never been and had promised myself. Partner had the mini grill while I had the lunch fish n chips. I really did want this to be a goto venue but was disappointed. The mini grill lacked taste, with chicken looking pale and little taste, egg over fried. My fish n chips was just about passable but nothing to sing about. Unfortunately I'll not return again. Didn't get charged for the mini grill after pointing it out. Service was excellent, food slow coming. As said will not go again though.

Really slow service, had to wait over an hour for food at lunchtime with 2 hungry, restless kids! 2 of our party had to leave without food to get back to work!

Child's play area was like a sauna far to hot there was an issue with Sharon pieces off wood sticking which we pointed out x

My daughter & I come here when I visit Dundee. The food is always of a very good standard and service is always excellent. Zoe especially is a lovely lady who always remembers us and makes us feel so welcome. Great place to eat with very welcoming atmosphere

We chose to come to The Riverside Inn Pub & Grill after a family funeral. Staff were very welcoming on arrival, the food was amazing and very well priced. Zoe, our server, gave us a bottle of wine and a card from the whole team to offer their condolences which was so lovely! I would 100% recommend this place due to its amazing food, welcoming environment and attentive staff. 10/10

Well it's a shame cos it's a nice big place but the kid's plat play isn't clean and it's cold the service is to long and the toilet had know paper or soap not good .
