anchorage hotel in South Ayrshire

Possibly the worst hotel I ever stayed in. No breakfast! No dinner! (Chef refused to feed us (13 of us. No room service the entire time we were there. June 2nd to 5th 2024. Bar closed nearly every night. Their telly was on but no one in!! Fortunately bars and restaurants nearby were open for business. Scott’s was fantastic. The is was a week before The Open. Utter shambles.

The hotel is very dingy but its extremely old so maybe thats why it hasnt been done up, must be the style their after. The bar staff were quite incompetent. One forgot to give me my change and then later on at night the other barman gave me the wrong can - twice. The breakfast was good and the woman (kirsty i think) was spot on.

Lovely Sunday dinner, nice atmosphere, not too busy.

Recently had a terrible experience here. We were not put in the room we booked and were told they couldn’t do anything to move us to the room we pre-paid for. The room was grungy and run down. When the staff were telling us about the prepaid breakfast we let them know we had to be out before this started and they assured us that bagged lunches are provided in these cases; we never received these despite checking in multiple times during the day. There was NO SHOWER due to lack of running water. Staff overall didn’t show any care for the numerous issues. The room walls are extremely thin and we were kept up until 2am due to other rooms partying until that time. There was NO internet provided and NO cell service in the room. Clearly what they charge for the room is not going into upkeep for the hotel. Do not recommend staying here.

Food was excellent and portion size very generous. Yes the place could do with a makeover but nice atmosphere friendly staff and you can take your dogs in with you or dugs if you prefer. Been in twice and meals and drinks were good quality and fairly priced 😀

Brilliant staff I always use it whilst in Troon

Fine. In need of renovation and some money being spent on it. Our room didn’t have a handle to open the door, only a door knob so the door either had to be locked shut or left open and able to be pushed open. The room was very basic and the window wouldn’t open which made it very warm and stuffy. The bathroom was cramped and very basic but was clean and in working order after waiting around 10 minutes for hot water to come through the shower. The breakfast was good, although the breakfast room was very dated and in need of modernisation. Staff were friendly and cheerful in the morning.

Charging over £8,000 for a room per week during the week of the golf open pure greed avoid

The welcome was nice. Location and sea views very good. Rooms really bad! Looks like nobody cares at all. Bathroom and bedroom dirty and very worn down and must have been for years. Bed was broken. We would not stay here. Breakfast was ok.

Stayed for one night in the actually beautiful, old hotel. Unfortunately, the age of the hotel is also its biggest problem. Everything is very dilapidated and the rooms are rather unkempt. But the breakfast was ok.

A bit quiet for a Friday night.

We ae a family of three - two adults and one child. We called into the Anchorage Hotel for lunch as we were in the process of completing the Troon Treasure Trail. We did not have a booking but the young woman on shift was happy to accommodate us. We managed to secure a table by the fire! Nice, relaxed atmosphere. Our order was taken promptly, the food was piping hot and generously portioned. It was a typical pub menu but the food was done well. Reasonable prices. No complaints at all.

It has a faulty towers feel to it. Issue with room not having been cleaned on arrival with previous guests rubbish still in the room. Resolved by being moved room although the 1st room was bigger and more expensive. Place does look tired in places, but we weren't expecting to be staying at the Ritz. Staff are fantastic, and hotels downfall can be forgiven due to the efforts of the hard-working girls at reception and at breakfast this morning. Number of items unavailable at breakfast, including beans and potato scones. Bed was comfortable. Accommodation in the area is limited. At £100 for the night, it seemed a bit steep.

The hotel is in a nice location. The rooms are spartan and would benefit from simple updates: lightbulbs in the wall lamps, fresh paint, extenders for wifi, etc. Breakfast was included and it was good.

Very tired and in need of freshening up. A complete revamp. Nice breakfast. Good service. Come on bring yourself into the new world

Food and service excellent and staff are very customer focused

The starter wasn’t great,main meal tepid warm,won’t be back paid for juice and starter and left,really disappointing.

We ate here and the food was lovely. Unfortunately the place was really quiet. However we had called 5 times earlier in the day to book a table and it rang out each time so we eventually had to go in in person to make the booking - this might have impacted other bookings/ how busy the place was. The bar staff were very nice - however maybe an extra visit back to the table to check if we were okay for drinks would have generated another sale. Would definitely go back.

Sorry not as good as the last time we visited ,could be cleaner not the usual Anchorage.

No hot water for a shower, key to get back in failed to work stuck in cold for over half hour, loud banging all night couldn’t sleep. Would never go again.

We had mixed feeling about reviews of this hotel , but we found it excellent value with great bar and good food ,good history with this hotel with Troon golf club , parking outside not far from the station

Was in for lunch, When the waitress came over for drinks order she asked "what you want to drink" this was said with attitude, 2 diet coke and a Carling (incidentally flat) later on someone asked for coke was asked draft or cans we weren't asked but they were 2 people asked for pizza and burger, I asked for scampi. 3 mins later the waiter came back stating no burgers or pizza,would it not of been of any sense to tell people when ordering what's not on the menu. When it came the waitress went to another table first put food down then came over to us. Salad was worst I have ever tasted wouldn't feed to a rabbit tasteless, 12 chips in portion of 1 scampi 14 in other and 17 in other order. All same size of chips Asked for sauce and the sever sighed when I asked for it. Not professional I think.The table beside us seemed to be getting better attention than us. This place used to be excellent for food but not now 👎👎not good anymore.

We had a very nice lunch at the Anchorage. The food was excellent with good sized portions and service was first rate. Dog friendly too.

Four of us went for a meal in late December 2021. We were served quickly, the food was good. But- the clientele were mostly younger men who walked about in groups up to the bar without any masks! The bar staff never asked them to put them on, and one of the bar staff had her mask constantly under her nose and mouth. I would not go there again - it may not be up to the bar staff to police this but more signs should have been in place - masks must be worn - worst health hazard location I’ve been in.

Staff are welcoming and attentive. Great selection of beers, gin, whiskies. Decent menu and well presented food. Traditional pub decor with hand sanitizers throughout the pub, clean loos and a lovely beer garden. What's not to love?

Came into use the ‘landscaped’ (grass, benches and a hedge) beer garden. Stood at the bar for five minutes while they checked if there was a space for us. There were about five spare tables, unsure why the hold up. Then taken out and sat down outside. Then waited for ten minutes. Three staff members walked out and not one looked at us much less spoke to us. Then gave up and left. What a waste of time.

This hotel dates back to 1812 it has a lovely bar area and eating area staff are all friendly in all areas and in particular the staff that serve the breakfast and in turn also clean the rooms. Breakfast is Amazing unlimited fresh orange juice, apple juice tea and coffee and help your self to cereal and toast then you can order a full cooked breakfast or order poached eggs or whatever Combination you want. the hotel is a five minute walk into town. had the chicken fajitas one night and the mussels ( the mussels were OK but really tiny) We have room 15 it is very basic and could do with a new mattress or at least a mattress protector and a tiny window that does not open but we are not hear to stay in the room and although basic it's actually OK for a long weekend although my advise to management would be start updating the rooms one by one as very run down. I would however definitely come back here and yes I would recommend the hotel big thanks to all the lovely staff and the breakfast chef. My poached eggs were perfecto this morning. Troon is an amazing wee town don't hesitate to visit and book this hotel its fine for the Groupon price offered and the breakfast will set you up for the day. Hope to return before the end of the year.

Hidden gem! Food was delicious ,well presented and great value. After a long walk we popped in for a breakfast roll. Anything we wanted could be supplied. We were so impressed we returned on sunday for dinner. Steak pie was so tender and the cajun chicken was too much for me to finish. It came with onion rings,rice an d a bowl of chips. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend a visit. Staff so friendly and efficient. Five stars all the way.

Doing a tour of ayrshire for a few days,when we found this hotel by accident looking for a parking space,was a sunny day and seen they had a beer garden and a half decent looking menu,so decided to go in.Beer garden is great and large and very quiet.For the meals we got the pate and haggis for starters then the fish and steak pie for main meal.They were tremendous i cant fault anything,very tasty,great presentation and very good sized portions.Also a tremendous price it was the two for £9.95 meal deal we got,worth every penny.Would have stayed longer but we had a mad collie dog with us,who was going nuts for the steak pie also!The best thing about the pub is the welcoming staff everyone one of the girls in there were very helpful and friendly big shout out to them.If i was in Troon again i would defo return here for a meal thanks for the pleasant service we had a great afternoon

The meals that we received in the hotel were piping hot and made from good products. Quick service staff very friendly.

Well stayed in Troon over 10 years at the same B&B and while driving around for somewhere I came across The Anchorage. The steak was amazing I have never had better. I will be back tomorrow for more. Don't pass this place the food and service amazing.

Bustling for a Monday night is always a good sign, tradition and history just oozes out of this place. Friendly bar staff, a lifeless end of barrel pint replaced with minimum fuss, and a menu which is filled with choices for a healthy appetite. The home made pate is quite simply superb, the best I have tasted anywhere, and followed by a tasty burger with a generous chilli topping. 5 stars for the pate and pear relish alone. It's not egon ronay but when you have had a hard day and looking for some tasty food and a good pint, it ticks all the boxes.

The breakfast was fantastic. Cereal, toast and fruit juice all help yourself. A good menu for cooked all cooked freshly for you. You can cancel have as much tea and coffee as you want. Service was excellent tables where kept clean and dishes cleared when you were finished. We also used the restaurant for our evening meals highly recommended food was excellent as was the staff and service. Drinks were priced reasonably and had a good choice.

Breakfast cooked to order and was piping hot and delicious. Lovely dinner in the hotel with massive portions!

Visited with partner and 2 young children. Food came out quickly but the lasagne was disgusting...it was swimming in grease. Tried to mop some up on the napkin but more and more oozed out. Was changing my youngest child when the waitress cleared the plates away...my lasagne was still full and she didnt even ask my partner if everything was ok which i would have expected as it hadnt been touched. So we ended up paying for a meal which wasnt eaten. Very disappointed and will never return

Apart from no internet in rooms, this has been a new thing as stayed many times and had room wifi signal. Only in bar sadly. Nice place with shops around and nightlife.

Waited for over an hour for food(the restaurant was empty apart from us) waiter too busy at the bar on his phone. Had to ask several times where our meal was. No apologies by waiter at all. We were taking family out from lunch that had just arrived from down south, very disappointing. Obviously there was a reason it was empty. Definitely won’t be back.

Had to send 2 main meals back, didn't pay for them, burger was burnt the bun was burnt black, the lasagne was undercooked, all in all was very disappointing, don't think we will be back

We had the steak pie which was full of tender steakand waslovely . Good value for money. They serve a great breakfast too

I stayed here before & said I wouldn't go back but I was lured in by the cheap price through Groupon...bit of a mistake. Firstly can I say that the staff were friendly & the food was good which is why I didn't rate it 1 star BUT the condition of the building is awful! The walls were all marked and stained, the heater rusty but the worst thing was that it looked like the bed headboard was holding up the ceiling. This hotel needs a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to an acceptable standard. I won't be tempted back again no matter how cheap it is!

Have been to this hotel for food quite a few times .they do a special till 7.00 two course for 10.00 .large portions and excellent taste.best steak pie .only thing that lets it down is the price of drink .A wine and lager 10.00 .would stay longer if drink was cheaper but food makes up for it .

I took a trip to this hotel,looking for a late deal and a relatively cheap break for a few days-what I got was not what I expected.

Had lunch in beer garden. Burgers, nachos and mac and cheese all good. Down side was lack of staff. Just one male staff member having to deal with bar and food orders. When our food arrived we had no salt and sauces so asked for these. Unfortunately by the time the staff brought them we had finished our meals. Great food let down by not enough staff to deal with orders.

I was initially dubious about trying the restaurant based on local opinion but opted to at least try. In a party of 4 for an evening meal which I ordered lasagne. We had a long wait for drinks and food was lacking quality. Lasagne tasted ok however very small portion, very oily from cheap cheese, frozen chips and sorry looking side salad. This restaurant requires a revised menu and improved food or it will fail.

Went for a meal had Fajitas they were very fatty, showed the server how much of the portion was inedible, never got as much as an apology That is the 2nd time in a row I have had a poor meal

Easter Sunday and were looking for dinner. We tried the Harbour bar but they were very busy and we would have to wait so we walked another 50m to the Anchorage bar. They were able to accommodate us.

Average breakfast . You make your own toast. but too bad if a few people waiting at same time . Toast takes ages then comes out hard and burnt !!! Tea and coffe pots could do with being replaced . Staff are excellent very lovely people .

We had Tomato and Red Pepper soup -- tasted good BUT cold !!!

Bought this as a Groupon deal for a Christmas present for my husband, one night bed and breakfast with 15% off food if we chose to dine.

Excellent pub food, friendly fast service in atmospheric surroundings! What more you ask for? How about large portions and great value for money? Well that was what was served up as well! A most enjoyable evening for under £30 for 2 drinks , 2 2 course meals and 2 coffees. Will definitely be coming back as there are many dishes we would like to try on a varied menu! Well worth a visit!

Incluso la habitación era o qué? ? No la habitación de hotel parece esto? ? Creo que era mejor para nosotros para alojarse en nuestra propia casa y la propia sala, que es mucho mejor que este hotel. Había agujeros y grietas en la pared de la habitación. Muy básico. La única cosa positiva de este hotel era la comida. La comida es excelente y grandes porciones de tamaño. Nunca volveremos en el futuro. Si quieres evitar un medio ambiente mejor. .

Nos fuimos a cenar, esta noche no es un buen comienzo cuando esperamos 20 minutos para obtener un menú al final después de una hora y 40 minutos recibimos nuestro plato principal, que era bastante mediocre. Que no es la única mesa donde no feliz...

La comida era promedio-pub. Grande para repetir y muy bien preparado. No tener que comer en el bar. No había comedor disponible, ya que estaba siendo utilizada para algo más. Bar un poco ruidoso.

Visitamos en oferta groupon. Muy buena relación calidad-precio. Preparado para vista habitación básico pero limpio con sólo wifi en el bar por la calidad de la comida y el servicio amable. El desayuno era todo lo que podía esperarse, caliente, sabroso y abundante. Ambas noches...

Visitamos en abril de 2017 una comida de cumpleaños de la familia. La comida era realmente buena y una excelente relación calidad-precio. Hay un bonito jardín en la parte trasera del hotel, así que los niños eran capaces de correr sobre después de cenar.

Friendly staff and quick service. Tasty food and reasonably priced. Full of character with the old stone walls and boat shaped bar.

We had a lovely meal at this hotel - the whole night was great. We had good service from the waitress (young girl - she had just started) who was on her own virtually and served the whole restaurant . We thought she was magnificent - her boss was there and was watching her very carefully so she was quite nervous. Considering everything she was coping with - she did so well. Would definitely dine again at this hotel !

Went here with my girlfriend who recommended the home made Steak pie!It was lovely, food great, service great and a very clean and nice atmosphere with the option to watch football/sports. Parking is also quite good and the location is in a central area.A+Scott

This was a 5 pm deal. Extremely Cheap at £69.00 per couple, 2 nights bed and breakfast with dinner and a glass of wine the first night. The dinner may have been pub grub but it was very good pub grub. Fresh, tasty and plenty of it. The staff were friendly and helpful . The only disappointing aspect was the rooms. They are badly in need of a makeover. The beds were a tad uncomfortable too. In having said that everything was so clean. It's a shame really because this place has a lot going for it. Overall we had a smashing 2 days.

We were booked in here on a voucher deal which was very keenly priced and to be fair the food was fine and the staff were great.The problem here are the rooms they are just to far gone they are well past their sell by date and a revamp is strongly required that is after allowing for the age of the building.We would not return here at any price unless the place was done up.

Food and service at the anchorage is excellent.wide range of food on menu to suit every taste they also have a seafood board with fresh fish of the day and seafood.

Menu was typically pub food but good choice for mains. Food freshly cooked and puddings were lovely.

It's some years since we visited the Anchorage due to some bad experiences, the staff were friendly and food good and well priced.

Myself and husband came to the anchorage for a meal with our friends who were visiting from England the food was not up to standard no one enjoyed their meal. when we were asked how the meal was we confirmed we didn't enjoy it and it wasn't nice but no notice was taking by the girl and she just sent another girl over with the card machine to pay for our meals which we did and couldn't leave quick enough. Myself and young son both had a very uncomfortable weekend due to the food not being satisfactory and I made the staff aware of this when I phoned to first put in my complaint the next day. The service from the staff was very much like they couldn't be bothered which is a shame as I was recommended to come for dinner here.I then phoned up to make a complaint and was told the manager was too busy to take my call and that the manager checks in guests etc so I was told the manager would call me back - the manager never called back. I contacted the anchorage on three occasions and no one wanted to take my complaint on I then wrote an email and again no one took any notice.I am disgusted by the service I got and how I was treated and the manager is utterly disgraceful to not return a call to a customer regarding a complaint i phoned several times I emailed and nothing!!! I am waiting still to this day! I have nothing nice to say about the anchorage and very much will encourage people not to eat here. It is common courtesy to take feedback and especially if it's a complaint it should be taken seriously but all the staff clearly tried to avoid my complaint including the manager very disrespectful. I am more annoyed at my calls not being returned or my email not even responded too I think this is bad people skills from the staff and manager and my business certainly won't be at the anchorage again. Awful staff! Awful customer service! Awful in general! Avoid anchorage!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed at the Anchorage and meal on night one was included in package.Food was great quality so decided to eat from main menu on second night.Portions were generous and food was piping hot. Quality was fresh and the staff were very friendly without being obtrusive.Will be back

For £69 we got a 2 night stay with breakfast and a 2 course dinner which I thought was amazing. The hotel is dated but to be honest we did not mind. There is a large bar and restaurant area downstairs. The rooms were pretty basic but you get what you pay for. Food was lovely and the staff were more than helpful.

We had a lovely meal last night 8 of us there service very good meal,piping hot and plenty of it. The only draw back the chips were half cooked but didn't stop us enjoying the food. We mentioned it but the waiter said he would tell the chef

The early evening set menu with two courses for £10 is great value. Portions are over generous and high in quality.

Lots of local beers on tap. Great atmosphere right on the beach road. Full of local characters. Cozy and welcoming.

Just back from a weekend break via a Groupon deal. After reading the reviews I was a bit worried about the bedrooms. Our room was simple, but it was clean with fluffy towels and clean linen. Nothing to complain about. I can't compliment the staff enough. They were so pleasant and helpful. A special mention for Jennifer who was on reception during our stay and made us feel so welcome. The management should be proud of their staff.. As part of our deal we had a 2 course dinner on the first night and a glass of wine. We all enjoyed our meals. They were delicious. Highly recommended but if you like 4 star bedrooms this is not the hotel for you.

The food is very good and reasonably priced (fab nachos)and the stake pie is divine. it very old fashion pub style with a nautical theme staff were all helpful and i felt comfy with my 11 year old son even though he was the only child in there

We came here for a late lunch while touring the area and trying to find a parking place for our motorhome ( had to park it several streets away!). It is a typical old pub , rather dark inside. The garden looked nice but it was a bit too cold to sit out. The restaurant was dog friendly The menu was quite extensive and varied. We ordered pan fried scallops with parma crisps. The scallops arrived wrapped in quite thick bacon (under done on the bottom) and the scallops tasted as if they had been boiled rather than pan fried. Disappointing.

Went here on a Friday at lunch time on a day off from work .. Was very quiet and I assumed this was as it was a weekday .. Nice staff at the bar who also served our meal opted for cheeseburger which included salad with fries .. Enjoyed the burger as it tasted home made .. Had a look around the hotel and it looks like it's been going for many years .. All in all was a no frills pub lunch and would maybe visit again if i was in the area

The Anchorage Hotel pub and restaurant is well situated in Troon on its prominent Templehill frontage. The pub bar and restaurant are cosily placed is a large room with a big central bar, run by really friendly youngsters. Drinks are relatively expensive, but restaurant dishes (obviously, mostly fish) are between £10-£15. There are a few meat options on offer. I have to comment on the excellent and clean lavatories decorated in pale blue and cream!! There is good and easy parking in front of the hotel.

A typical old pub/ hotel trying to be a trendy steakhouse, and I must say the meals were tasty.The anchorage is old, 1812 old. How ever the whole bar area is sticky, the tables sticky, bar top sticky, seating sticky, not sure if it's the cleaning product or stale beer.Nice enough thou.

We arranged to meet friends who we had not seen for a couple of years . We were quite happy to meet at the Anchorage. Big mistake ! over priced and not that friendly.We were told at 10.30 pm that last orders and in no time were on our way out .I come from Troon and have always looked forward to a visit to the Anchorage but on this occasion was very disappointed.I have over the years been in and out of this place when under different names and as a young girl enjoyed loads of evening here .but will not rush back this visit .Who knows maybe the British Open was too much for them a couple of weeks before my visit ???????

stayed here with the wife 5/8/16 and I can assure you I will never be back, the add stayed a bottle of wine on arrival, which we never received, when we asked about it the following day we were handed a miniature bottle of wine, as for the breakfast they advertise with black pudding, I said I don't want black pudding with my breakfast and her reply was its fine we don't have any, no offer of a replacement item for my wife who ordered the black pudding, Troon is a beautiful place but the anchorage is not a beautiful hotel

Love the anchorage in Troon for the delicious fish and chips and the to die for macaroni and cheese. The chef even shared the recipe with me.

Returned after a couple of years away, due to not coming to the area, I was apprehensive but the food menu continues to be extensive and interesting, not to mention good value, and the service at table and at the bar is attentive but not intrusive.

I visited the Anchorage hotel for dinner with a visitor from Yorkshire recently. The menu was extensive and offered a few non run-of-the-mill options on the menu. The bar became busy but the service was very good. Our meals were well cooked and very tasty. Service was very friendly and efficient. This is well worth a return visit.

Just prior to the British Open Golf Tournament stayed at this hotel. The staff were so helpful and the food was fantastic. The best meal we have had while visiting Ireland and the U.K. In the last 5 weeks. Well done. Would recommend to everyone.

Had a lovely meal here you can get two courses between 5pm - 7pm for £9.95 . I had the steak pie and it was delicious.

Well presented building , very olde worldy look, pleasant interior, again olde worldy appearance, nice staff and very attentive and pleasant. As for the food it arrived relatively quickly, but went downhill from there. Food was warm enough but not very pleasing, too many frozen items microwaved, i.e. Roast potatoes, veg, yorkies, and possibly mash too. the meat was ok, just, and overall not what I expected from such a promising start to our outing for lunch.The other dishes we ordered looked and tasted good, but when you go for Sunday lunch, the roast meal is the the most popular, but it fell by the wayside.

We were greeted with a friendly welcome and could sit wherever we chose. The staff were friendly though not intrusive and the menu comprehensive. You could choose from a more substantial meal or a light bite. The food was excellent and overall,very good value.

Stayed here on a few occasions over a few years, food is excellent however rooms are very very tired now. Would recommend eating and drinking here but not sleeping.

Very quiet in terms of customers. MTV playing a little loudly for my taste. Three members of staff working, so thought service would be great. Service was slow and staff not attentive. First item ordered was out, which on such a quiet day I would have expected the staff to know while taking the order (or even pointing out when handing the menus over). Food satisfactory.No desserts ordered due to slow service and annoying male member of staff who was keen to show his rapping 'prowess'. Not the traditional Sunday pub-lunch we were hoping for, but not terrible, just 'meh'.

I regularly have lunch at this hotel. The food is amazing fabulous choice and very generous portions. The have a good choice of pasta and Mexican food, also a fish choice.Very friendly staff. Very good value for money I would recommend this hotel for families as it's very child friendly.

Although the place was really busy, our service and food was really good. Good start to a fun night !

A group of us popped in after going to Burns AFlame on Saturday night. We had reserved a table and had a great time. Food excellent, service good, superb relaxed atmosphere. Will happily go back anytime.
