Great place, me and a friend went after getting tattoos for some food and a few drinks had some of the valentines cocktails and they were amazing, I'd recommend the Cajun fries as they were delicious 😋

Atmosphere was ( omg should we really come in here). Dry and off, Sever was okish, ordered burgers cany really go wrong as I love slaw, and meat, the veg were struggling to survive in the mayo, was as well just given me the mayo jar, the meat was tasteless no seasoning at all, complained and we said we would eat as I hate food waste, left the poor veg to try and crawl to saftey in there mayo bath. Chef never even bothered a return comment .

Meal could not be faulted. Service above what i would expect. Even the cost of the whole night could not be faulted. We had a birthday in our group and there was no issue about a cake. I think.the staff ate most of it as we were too full . We were more than delighted with our night. By the way some of us are in the catering industry. Well done ASK. Still going to A SK still the top standard that we've got to expect. Staff still well trained polite and helpful thanks again

Having visited at a quiet period myself and our party were very disappointed in the service we received..25 minutes to receive a drink and when another person joined our table they waited a further 20 mins for a bottle of beer. The server we had was snappy and arogant and his personal hygiene was not up to par being front of house. We did make the manager aware but seemed to be uninterested

They forgot the bacon (which was a listed ingredient) for my burger then found that the vegetarian burger is just battered potato with raw veg . And so we tried to send the sh#t food back but were ignored until we made prolonged eye contact and waved at one of the servers. Don't even bother with the over priced drinks.

Great food, excellent service and reasonably priced

After a long day shopping in the rain in Ayr we opted for ASK because it was close by, inexpensive, had good reviews and had an amazing Gluten free selection. Lovely, spotless, airy place, comfortable booth, friendly welcome and prompt drink service. Food took a while to come despite it being relatively quiet but this can often be a sign that the food will be freshly prepared and worth the wait. By the time the food arrived we were starving; it looked good, so we dug in. Unfortunately we had a few major and a couple of minor issues. The beef burger didn't arrive with the bacon as advertised. After one bite of the dry pattie, our son decided that It really did need the bacon to add some flavour and moisture. It took ages, several attempts & some hand waving to finally get someone's attention. The restaurant had gotten busier by this stage but a courtesy check a few minutes after the food is placed should be routine. Bacon was then offered and brought (not well rendered) on a side plate; offering to replace the now cool burger would have been better. GF Veggie burger was completely inedible and got sent back- more a potato cake in breadcrumb than a burger; a dry potato pattie containing almost raw veg, a pale crumb, very little seasoning, flavour and no condiment to add moisture to the GF roll. We didn't have time to wait for an alternative order at this point. Sweet potato fries were nice. Chicken Balmoral was ok but the chicken was dry and the GF haggis was unusual in flavour & texture- dry, almost crunchy and lacked that spicy depth of flavour you'd expect from haggis. Kids chicken tempura & chips was massive but the chicken was very dry, bland and the batter was pale and a bit doughy in places. The problems we raised, when we managed to attract the attention of staff, were remedied eventually, we weren't charged for the sketchy veggie burger & sincere apologies were offered by the lovely staff. We've had great dinners and experiences at the stage door cafe and the new place in Silverburn from the same group but the food and service just weren't up to scratch at ASK on this occasion and I'm not sure that we'd give it another try.

An accidental stop because my wife got the wrong day for the start of our holiday (we were a day early for the ferry 😂). Atmosphere was great. My daughter loved the music. Very clean place. The service was great! Now for the review on the food.... we had the trio of meat. It looked stunning on the plate and the taste was amazing. My youngest had the kids menu macaroni which she said was delicious. We got the Carrot cake for dessert which was extremely delicious. For an accidental stop I am. More than satisfied. We will be back!!!!

Dull service horrible food not nice at all

Visited here in 9th January to celebrate a birthday and it was very quiet due to time of year. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I had the 8oz sirloin steak and it was cooked exactly as I requested, medium rare. Very delicious.

Iv been Friday and Saturday with friends and family yo celebrate my very emotional 60th birthday. I can't thank the staff enough for making these 2 days special for me. Would highly recommend this place,food was amazing great portion sizes 💕💕 xx

No healthy choices on menu, had curried vegetable soup which was OK but seemed to cool very quickly , wife had burger and chips no sauces or salad was offered, certainly not worth £10 charge for it

Really nice place. Staff were excellent. For most part food was good. I had scallops, which were really disappointing and why I knocked a star off tbh. They were very small especially given its one if the dearer starters at 10pounds. The chicken tempura was good and chips were good. Sticky toffee pudding was OK. It was a huge bit but it was a little dry. I also tried the mac and cheese, it was excellent, I will def get it next time i visit. The toffee Eton mess was wonderful as I also tried that, again this will be something I get next time too. Drinks were all good and as I said staff were great. Thanks

Absolutely ridiculous asked to get moved into the sun shine out of the way and smell of chip fat as there was 4 tables empty and the answer they gave us was there's too many people walking about today so we left and won't be back we felt very disappointed the lot of us

We visited for friends 40th birthday treat and starters came fine but all the other parties mains arrived and literally 10 mins mine hadn't arrived so managed grab a member of staff and she went to check to find the staff had forgotten about it and had to wait til they made it another 15/20 mins it arrived and everyone else had finished and the others where keen to leave as we were frozen due being seated near front door . I ate less than half of the tasteless macaroni the garlic bread was soggy as wasn't toasted long as obvs in hurry to get it out and didn't touch the chips. One apology the whole time for this so ended up starving . I understand under pressure but was the wait told the lady cancel it but she came with it any way and I was still charged for it even tho wait and friends keen to go.

So nice to see our favourite restaurant opened again. Our meal was lovely as usual, especially the banoffe eton mess. The staff are all very polite, friendly and helpful, looking forward to our next visit. The menu has also got a fantastic choice of Gluten free meals which is great for me being Coeliac

Was okay. Food not as good as they used to be. No veg with kids meals.

After a trip to the bowling where loser buys lunch I have to say the free meal made the trip extra sweet. We both had some form of toasted chiabata bun with soup and shared the loaded fries (these i would recommend). Friendly and quick service, would dine again.

This place is a hidden gem in Ayr town centre, had the most enjoyable three course lunch, the food was delicious and presentation second to none, thought we were in a five star restaurant, service and surroundings were excellent!!!! Definitely be back here!!!!

Went here with my girlfriend today services was ok food looked nice but tasted disgusting. When we got home the both of us was taking turns going to the toilet to empty our bowls, it was something like out of bridesmaids if you have ever seen the film I will certainly not be back here again that’s guaranteed.

Went here for breakfast and was not let down. Yes prices have went up a bit because of COVID-19 but Everywhere else has too. Good quality breakfast and well worth the money. I love the fact you can choose why you want instead of having a set menu. You can taste the quality in the produce they serve. Service was brilliant and price fantastic for what you get. I have visited here a few times with friends during these uncertain times and have to say I have never felt safer and more comfortable in a restaurant. The staff are very attentive and all wear masks and the layout and one way system is well marked out as well. The food is delicious and generously proportioned to the point where at times I couldn't finish, due to the portions I find the pricing value for money. All in all an amazing place and will definetly be back. Never had a bad meal or service.

Had an excellent lunch on Saturday 29th August. Food was excellent I had the chicken tempura as a starter followed by Beer battered haddock and both were lovely. My wife had the Soup of the day and Beef burger and agin both were excellent. Prices were very reasonable and social distancing was well enforced. I felt very safe and comfortable as this was my first experience of a restaurant since lock down eased. The staff as always were very friendly and helpful. We are her a lot before lockdown and the restaurant is still as good as we remember. Wholeheartedly recommend a visit.

Had a meal n drink here with the wife, and really enjoyed it plus the pints were great n refreshing would recommend great value for money too and that’s without the eat out help out scheme

We visited ASK on the last day of eat out help out scheme. We had a great lunch for 2 adults and a child. We each had 2 courses with extra chips, 2 large draft drinks and a child's drink then 2 coffee's and it only came to £33.00. Don't know why people are leaving bad reviews, great value. Staff were friendly, the place was all set out safely and adhering to covid regulations I.e one way system etc. Staff were friendly, service was quick and food was lovely. The place was spotlessly clean too. Had a lovely family lunch and would visit again next time we are in Ayr for the day.

Approx 2 years ago we ate here only for me to spot a very long hair in my friends dessert, after complaining and a very heated debate with the general manager we received free coffee but no apology; my friend went on to review our meal and lack of customer service etc on here only to receive an semi abusive response from the said general manager.Anywho, we thought we’d give them another go today and take advantage of the Governments eat out to help out ( which they judging by today’s visit and other reviews they are obviously abusing.....BIG MISTAKE....Not only were we glared at at every opportunity by the General Manager we were served by a waiter who was little more than a child. We proceeded to place our orders (macaroni cheese x 3 which was served with fries & garlic bread). The macaroni was disappointing and the garlic bread was a normal French stick type of bread that had been sprayed with some bright green substance - we all left most of it on our plates as the only thing that was edible was the fries. We then had 3 lukewarm lattes and asked for the bill. The restaurant manager (lovely girl) brought us the bill and I nearly fell off my chair as we were being charged £45.00 for 3 plates of macaroni cheese and £8.95 for 3 coffees??? Immediately we questioned the restaurant manager who began to get a bit flustered and couldn’t really explain the pricing - meanwhile the general manager was watching us like a hawk!!! She then took the receipt up to the till to check it for errors and was accosted by the general manager who insisted we had to pay - but he never once came up to ask what the issue was??? By this time the restaurant manager was even more apologetic and flustered so to avoid getting her into any more bother we paid the bill and left NEVER TO RETURN.......Horrible horrible place who are abusing the Government scheme

Very impressed by the fresh decor and the spacious beer garden. Menu was good and the food was superb. Two pieces of excellence here. 1. The pea and ham soup... Souperb!! 😵 2. The customer service, especially Dylan. Highly recommended.

Acted very greedy during eat out to help out.I visit ASK very regular when I always get the steak dinner with trimmings and chips are included for £18. (this is what I paid on 31/7/20)During the government eat out to help out I went to ASK for a family meal with my mum and brother, we thought yes we will get a nice cheap steak as it is usually £18 with 50% discount we will pay £9 each, well you would think.When we arrived we noticed the menu had been changed with no price at each meal but on the top on menu it said “2 courses for £20 you pay £10”. The steak did say beside it £10 supplement so we thought we were paying £10 per steak with no other course.There was no other prices stated beside the steak.The 3 of us all ordered steak, when we got our meal we never received chips so we had to order some separate. we then asked for the bill and nearly fainted the bill was £61.50 but that was including 3 pints of beer as well. We then noticed the steak dinners came to £75 but with £30 discounted so we questioned it before leaving and was told that a steak dinner was £25 each with no chips included and the £10 supplement meant that only £10 can be taken off meaning out steak was £15 then chips taking it to £18 so never got the 50% discount at all. They have changed the menu for eat out to help out and put prices up so customers are not getting the discount. We paid full price for our steak and also they will get £30 from the government for our order as well pure greed. This is the only place I have seen doing this as I have tried a lot of places during the eat out to help out

Unlike some reviews, I came on the half price midweek deal and was really impressed with the food and thought it good value. It was clean, staff were attentive and respectful, maintaining distance. The food arrived promptly but was hot and fresh. I ordered the veg tempura and fish risotto. Both were excellent. My daughter's sausage and mash was huge and she loved it, presented like an adult meal.I think the reviews do this place a disservice. It's a good business model they have going on after months of being closed, but that certainly didn't deflect from the quality of the experience.

Went last night 25th with my wife,agree with some other reviews,the customer pays the same as prior to shutdown,then they bill MR SUNAK [taxpayer] for £10 pp-food good. and staff work hard ,but a la carte PLEASE--£15 for MacaroniBeen to other places during August and have no complaints,but here they are playing a dangerous game in the long term with this not so subtle scam.GROSS ABUSE OF EHO .

Got the burger it was saturated in grease, however as it was a burger I didn’t think too much about it, then waited 45 minutes to get the dessert menu whilst all the servers avoided our eye contact until we finally got the dessert menu only to receive a piece of cake that tasted like it was about 2 weeks old, just stale and tasteless. The server kindly offered to comp our drinks.....then proceeded to give us the drinks that were included in the meal deal price so we still had to pay the flat price. Overall a really disappointing visit and I would not recommend going there. It should also be noted their bathrooms are poorly labelled.

I haven’t used tripadvisor before, but I felt motivated to join to help raise awareness of the shocking abuse of the eat out to help out scheme happening at this restaurant. I really wish I had read the previous reviews prior to eating here last week. To try and profit with these prices is truly awful. I have read the managers explanation of their menu and prices (see the reviews below) but quite frankly, any attempt to justify it is laughable. Its not about whether or not they happen to think their prescribed menu offers good value for money or not. It’s pretty obvious what’s going on here and the restaurant are attempting to charge the customer basically full price and then bill the government (tax payer!) too!! In these times where many people are struggling don’t give these guys any of your money! It really is disgraceful.

First time out for dinner since lockdown, and felt reassured on arrival as all the wait staff were wearing their masks appropriately and zipping across the room either cleaning tables or carrying food. We found the staff friendly and attentive, and should be given a raise based on having being subjected to the amount of abuse and unprofessional behaviour courtesy of the chef.We were placed near the kitchen hatch, which initially was reassuring as we could see food being prepared and pleased to see staff frequently using hand gel. However, it became clear very quickly that the chef has issues controlling his anger, continually shouting abuse at his colleagues and slamming the service bell if food was not collected by the wait staff immediately. As far as we could see, the wait staff were working hard ensuring government guidelines were being followed, and I would rather a staff member prioritised washing their hands over serving my food. The food was good, however I couldn’t wait to leave. That kind of behaviour is absolutely unacceptable, I feel that this should be a time of looking out for each other to keep ourselves and others safe, however the chef doesn’t seem to have received that memo.

Great safe set up for Covid regulations. Very friendly helpful staff. Brilliant breakfast good prices. Recommend by a friend who was also impressed. My son loved his pancakes. Definitely be back definitely recommend.

Most local businesses want to give back to their customers & communities, not these guys. They seem to have monopolised on the Dine out Help Out scheme by upping their usual 2 course meal deal for £12 to £20!! to make sure every customer has to pay the max £10. Disgusting. We are all for supporting local businesses, but this is plain & simple GREED

Lovely food, most dishes can be made GF on request (no chips though, cross contamination by the looks of it?).

We have used the “Eat out to Help Out” scheme a number of times this week. However, unlike other establishments that have passed on a genuine saving to customers, Arthur Street Kitchen, has instead devised a special menu with clearly artificially inflated prices to maximise profits (a £10 children’s menu in what is essentially a pub). This is definitely not in the spirit of the scheme and I hope other would-be diners will get wise to this type of opportunistic scam. We probably would have just accepted this for what it was, but to add insult to injury, the bill - when we received it - was still inaccurate. My wife did try to communicate this to a member of staff but he was unable to understand the error. In the end we just paid. I should add the serving staff and quality of the food were perfectly acceptable. I’m sure people will see this type of exploitative manoeuvre for what it is, and rather than eat here will give their business to other restaurants in the area that have a little more integrity.

Went today for lunch having been here twice before and the food and service was absolutely first class. I really don’t understand any negative comments about Ask. Would thoroughly recommend it to e.

I don’t normally complain but found the need to.. went yesterday with my partner and sat down... waited 20 mins for drinks... they serve liquer on the gin board So it’s a lot weaker than Gin... the waitress tried to tell me it was the same thing but it’s not. The food came out too quickly and I mean within 1 minute of ordering which can only suggest it had been sitting ready for a while... food was just deep fried and nasty with Old salad... we asked for more drinks again this time waited half an hour for them to bring wrong drinks and then double what we asked for... it wasn’t clean either and with Covid you would expect the hygiene to be priority.. 2 toilets out of a possible 10 in use but the toilets in use are next to each other... makes no sense.. 3 hand dryers and they have put the end one out of use again makes no sense.. would make better sense cutting off the middle hand dryer which would enable people to social distance better... all in all I won’t be back... it’s as if they had just thrown a few bottles of hand sanitiser around the place to make it look like something has been done... get the people in but doesn’t matter what we serve or the way we serve it as long as we get our money!!! Shocking...

Met by Hugh on arrival. Did not have a reservation but Hugh looked after us with great attention. He explained all the covid practices within the restaurant. He was also marked up. This information was a very comforting start to our visit. Food was served by the wonderful Brogan who was so attentive to all our needs. Food was great and good value. Will be back for sure.
