Excellent service Lovely Courtyard Excellent Food and Drink and of course excellent value. The Friday Fish and Chips were about the bestI I have had in along time : My husband enjoyed the haggis with theWhisky Sauce and the Apple crumble is delicious. The staff couldn’t have been better and I recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys good food at a very reasonable price.

Six of us from three households plus the two year old son of one of the fathers seated ourselves at a large table near the entrance/exit. A waitress came and insisted we split up into two separate tables two metres apart. She was only following the rules, dogmatic as these are. We chose to leave. Discretion ought to have been inserted into this rule especially where infants are involved. The one star is not a reflection on an otherwise excellent, value for money bar/restaurant, but rather the govt's ill-thought out rule.

Nah you don’t understand the man who gave me and my comrade our food is absolutely gorgeous. Like he could stab me and I’d thank him.In other news the food was decent ma mate was quite hyped about his steak he said it was squishy which I assume is a good thing, my chips were a little funny tasting but I think it just added to the aesthetic. One problem was that the table next to us had a child and that child felt the need to neck on with one of the Christmas decorations, like child there is a global pandemic and you felt the need to suck off a bauble, not a vibe.

Hats off to Brandon and the team. Great service with a smile despite all the restrictions. Three steaks cooked to perfection, great meal,great value for money. Thanks to everyone

Exceptionally helpful staff who advised on App usage. Steak cooked well and great value for money. Clean and good social distancing practices in place.

Was in town and our group had breakfast here. Food was typical spoons brekkie. No salt/sauces given and when asked, staff said they’d bring some and then disappeared (restaurant was almost empty) so we had to get up again and track some one down to ask for these.

The staff were largely miserable. I pointed out our order was wrong and the lady just snatched the food away without so much as an apology. The food was also not up to the usual standard you expect from Wetherspoons.

This is my regular Wetherspoons and very fortunate to have such a good one. Management is very good and the staff are well motivated and helpful. On my last visit yesterday, the staff were well on top of the Covid guidelines and I felt as safe as I could in an enclosed public space. All tables were cleaned quickly and the drinks came out very quickly and the ale in very good condition. Keep up the good work, it’s appreciated

Myself and 5 others along with 2 small dogs were looking for somewhere to have lunch - empty beer garden ( unsightly slabs with tables and chairs ) so we went in only to be chased away by staff because of the dogs. Bizarre given the fact that there were hardly any patrons within you'd think in these tough times pubs would be grateful for the business. Online searching said that it was dog friendly but clearly not. Drug user friendly tho so if that's your thing you'll be welcome as there were some dubious characters sitting outside. Curious also that the outdoor tables are on a public footpath but we weren't allowed to sit there either.

It’s a spoons friendly staff cheap beer, you know what to expect. They catered well for the Covid, with screens between tables and app for orders. Also quick talk before entering and QR code for t&t.

Coors Light, Bud Light and Tennents where awful the twice I was in there, managers answer was it's your taste buds!! Very bad customer service.

We popped in for coffees and the service was quick and friendly. Coffee machines regularly refilled on our visit and the tables were cleared with no clutter. Had cause to visit the gents toilet too and it was very clean. It also had numerous signage up reminding customers of their personal hygiene due the Coronavirus prevalent at this time. An excellent selection of real ales which unfortunately I cannot sample until the weekend! Well done the Bourtree

This pub was literally a hop skip and a jump from the guesthouse we were staying in. £4.99 for fish and chips very reasonable, with all the condiments and a log fire that's cheaper than eating fish and chips on the street.

Visited with friends, one of their phones slipped behind cushion, he lifted the cushions on the bench to retrieve his phone, there was a used condom underneath!! Manager came to clean it up, apologised but did ask if we wanted to move tables! Three of the burgers were stone cold, chips and onion rings too, we complained got 3new ones but sad to say cold again, very disappointed in the food, service, and the staff, have already lodged a complaint to wetherspoons head office.

Get together after difficult family circumstances, sometimes you "want to go where everybody knows your name" Great service, well cooked and well presented food (thanks again Summer) Fantastic value for money. Youngest family member 2 years old, oldest 83, everyone had a decent meal and a lovely family time. Thank you Bourtree team

Go every Sat for lunch, great value good food and excellent choices of real ales. Staff very good and cheerful.

Went for breakfast with my family. Big regret. When breakfast arrived eggs were over cooked had obviously been sitting for ages. Stone cold. Bacon was so dried out you could snap it. Called the one and only person working over who begrudgingly took it to be changed. Got replacement which wasn’t much better. Looks up to see the “chef” chewing away as he was serving up. Then a female member of staff appears in the kitchen area with her outdoor coat on helping herself to food. Dread to think how many other basic hygiene laws they break. Won’t be back

We ordered gammon and egg . No gammon . Lamb and mash there was no mash! We had fish and chips and lamb and chips which was acceptable .Our friends ordered a pizza which was burnt at the edges .Otherwise it is a lovely building warm and comfortable

’ve visited the Bourtree on numerous occasions over the years. Unfortunately I must agree with recent reviews that standards are slipping. I’m aware that resourcing and staffing are always an issue at most Wetherspoons but a frequent change of staff at the Bourtree causes a lot of their problems. I was served at the bar last night by a lone female on a Friday night, who was slow and making mistakes when taking orders, not her fault as she should’ve been mentored and trained properly rather than muddling through. Other staff were not exactly busting a gut. Another gripe is when staff take an order to a table but then walk past another cluttered table without taking the dirty dishes away, happens on a regular basis. Real ale tickets being shown to the customer but then when trying to order that particular ale, informed by bar staff that it’s not on. Basic bar skills ie turn the ticket towards the bar. However on a plus note, we had fish and chips and some had steaks and the food quality was good and came out of the kitchen pretty fast. Downside is that our table was never wiped and overall hygiene is an issue due to poor staff training and poor supervision of staff overall. Management need to step up to the plate

This is a standard Wetherspons pub-cum-restaurant, which tells you all you need to know about it. If you are looking for gourmet food with fine wines served by atentative staff, you won't get it here.What you will get is good basic food at reasonable prices. When I ate here recently (on a midweek evening in October), the restaurant was busy but there were plenty of free tables. The service was a little on the slow side, but once I had ordered I didn't have to wait too long for the food to arrive. The menu had a good variety of dishes, including several vegetarian and vegan options (all clearly marked as such). I chose a vegetarian curry. I've no complaints about either the quality or the quantity.There are a couple of things that I especially like about Wetherspoons. First, there is never any piped music, noisy video games or blaring big-screen TVs, so you can have a conversation without having to shout above the noise. The other thing is that they have (so far) resisted the trend of encouraging dogs in the restaurant area. I've nothing against dogs, of course, but I don't appreciate them yapping around when I am trying to enjoy a meal.I see that there have been a few negative reviews of the Bourtree here. I can see how anyone expecting a fine dining experience would be disappointed. But if, like me, you simply want a reasonable meal in pleasant surroundings at an affordable price, I'm sure this establishment will meet your needs.

Food is awful, cleanliness is awful, and the staff can at times be very rude, often on their mobile phones. There are many places to eat in Hawick, give this place a wide birth if you have any sense.

Nice pleasant surroundings, there's plenty of light and a huge selection of drinks on offer as well as food.

I stay in North aryshire, went to Hawick to visit parents for my dad's birthday he wanted to go to wetherspoons.. Must say was very disappointed, tables were dirty had to ask for them to be cleaned.. My mum and dad ordered fish they didn't have so decided on steak pie and again didn't have.. Sorry but service very bad and Will definitely not be back...

Decided to pop in for lunch today while visiting the town of Hawick. All was going well until our meal arrived at the table. Our cutlery was absolutely filthy, this wasn’t a case of a tiny bit of stuck on food, they were so caked with food that I can only conclude that they had missed the dishwasher all together.

Been a few times for breakfast but went on an afternoon for late lunch and sat in the beer garden as we had our dog with us... I went in and ordered the food and when the waiter brought it out to us he told us they didn’t allow dogs in the beer garden or anywhere else on site ( he was really lovely about it and told us to just eat our meals and not to worry and it had been in force since last year ) but I was mortified and apologised profusely. when we left I took the plates and glasses back inside and again apologised as we had no idea and left but when I got outside we checked on doors / windows and all around the beer garden for any signs that said no dogs allowed and there was absolutely nothing around. It’s a shame as it’s left a bad taste and we don’t think we will be returning any time soon.

Usual good value food and drink. Wetherspoons are much the same, this is in a grand old building. Good food.

Busy to begin. But staff didn’t clear table once within four hours of being there. Lazy staff need to be more efficient clearing tables. Ok if your not fussy.

Standard Wetherspoons formula so interesting old building in the centre of the town with good information on local history decorating the walls. Wide range of Decent beer, friendly and efficient service and reasonable food.

Usually I find Wetherspoon very good. However this was not so here. There was no pride in what arrived at out table. I only had a jacket potato with supposed tuna mayo on. The salad looked a week old and was hot as it had been under the hot plate. No beer on but no one knew as the signs weren’t turned round so ppl were asking for things then having to choose again holding everything up. However the floor staff were working hard but didn’t see me to have any management.

Usual friendly service, good food with great prices from Wetherspoon’s - our favourite lunch spots when we’re out with the children. Nice local touches on the menu like haggis and full Scottish breakfast and another substantial property brilliantly converted by the group. Even the washrooms are of the highest quality! Speed of service using the app is amazing but it’s the second place we’ve visited with different prices on two menus and a third, more expensive, price on the app..... (We are talking 20p or30p per item here so nothing to get excited about but strange when attention to detail seems to be their strongpoint.)

Prompt service hot and tasty enough value for money veg lasagne lovely and chicken burger was good food not greasy

We went on a Friday evening and it was the last day of the local holidays therefore it was extremely busy. However credit to the staff. All the meals cam out timeously and the tables were cleared quickly. I had the fish which was cooked to perfection and everything that we ordered through their App came out very quickly. Prices as you’d expect are extremely good value for money. Keep up the great work Bourtree

We came here a couple of times as we were camping around Hawick. The first time we ordered the sharers between ourselves which were really nice and came quickly once ordered. There was no salsa on the nachos which I had to request some which they came back with. The food was nice and tasty as well. Cannot fault this. The second time we came was for breakfast. As we ordered on the app we didn't know what was in stock and what wasn't. There was a table next to ourselves as well who seemed to order the Eggs Royale like myself. The waiter came over to their table to tell them the freezers were down so they couldn't have the Eggs Royale, however, they never told me. I thought maybe they had enough for my plate as I am one person as there was four of them. When the food came, I did not get an Eggs Royale, I believe it may have been either back pudding or haggis on dry bread. The water then asked if I was told which I said that I seen the other table was but not me. I then opted for an Eggs Benedict but when they brought this there was no holindaise sauce because of the same reason. If I knew this when I requested this as a substitute I wouldn't have chosen this meal. If I was on Hawick again I would go back as I understand you can have your little blips.

Cannot fault the Steak deal.It comes served with an alcoholic drink or a soft drink at great value. For a lighter bite.Try a burger?

My first visit for the Fish Friday for quite some time and I wasn’t disappointed. Nice quick service with a smile. Plenty of clean tables and the food was really good. Keep up the good work

Really good beer at bargain prices. Food was just average, but very keenly priced. My burger was ok, but the chips were poor. American pancakes, maple syrup, blueberries and ice cream was very good. Would prefer to pay a bit more for better quality.

We have been regulars here since it first opened and have always liked it, but have to admit it's standards had begun to slide! However recently it seems to have got its act together again! Managers are much more visible on the floor and the quality of the service and cooking seems improved- no more burned or cold offerings. Keep up the good work!

Was in for the first time since the reprieve from closure and was very impressed. We were a bigger company than usual but all the food and drinks ordered via the App were delivered as they should, and the tables around were being cleared despite - the best bit - it being buzzing. Let's hope this continues but well done in the meantime !!

Well it is Wetherspoons, but I think as this particular weekend is extremely busy, the kitchen staff must have had to be under a lot of pressure - a few errors were made on our orders - ut swiftly rectified to our satisfaction

Have visited the Bourtree on many occasions. The service is always excellent as is the food. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

Have visited The Bourtree a couple of times now whilst visiting in Hawick. always a good atmosphere and staff are very friendly, welcoming and was very organised. Great value you for money with Steak Night being a massive hit with my family.

We are regular visitors on a Sunday and must say we have never had a bad meal! We have complained on occasion, cold chips, tough gammon no summer fruit cider on a Sunday as they are “cleaning the pipes”? Etc but have always complained ‘At the time’ not to friends or colleagues.

I recently visited the Bourtree in Hawick with a group of 14 people, we booked a table for 6.30pm and on arrival we were told that we were not expected until 8pm. After a short wait we got a table. The food was as fairly bland but eatable, but the service was terrible. On each course folk was served in relays, most of our group were finished before the last person was served. The waitress just threw the cutlery in a heap on the table. Those who ordered soup had to wait up to ten minutes before they came with a spoon. We waited approx 30 minutes after we had finished our main course for desert. I personally spoke to the head waiter who's response was we will serve dessert when we get time. Again the dessert was served in relays, with one of our party only receiving her dessert when all others had finished. The Bourtree was busy, but they have more staff behind the bar than serving customers food, and clearly have their priorities all wrong. The staff have no interest in the customers, the poor service ruined the evening.

Best value for money glass of gin for a long time. Good food and very helpful, friendly staff. Pity about the fruit machines

I appreciate that Wetherspoons is designed to be cheap & cheerful! However, cheerful it was not! Stressed untrained staff- tables piled high with food, food order incorrect, waiting time appalling. The whole place just isn’t been run Correctly. New management needed.

Had to have coffee in a paper cup - no clean mugs available, which was no surprise as lots of table piled high with dirty ones. Our table was piled up with dirty plates from breakfast - which we put to one side for the staff to collect. Had a long wait as they were still there when we left after our meal! The second time in a month that we have been here - both disappointing - wont be back :(

We went here for my birthday lunch . What a mistake .staff didnt have a clue what they were doing . Waiter couldn't find tables. Food was COLD when it arrived .we had surf and turf and all day brunch . On surf and turf all the veg was cold . On brunch eggs were undercooked .bacon was COLD. beans were dried out and black pudding was reheated . Other people sent food back to be heated up ..Absolutley Shocking .We are regular customers at all wetherspoons .dont know if we will come back here to the Bourtree in Hawick

Wouldnt go back, 1 person taking orders and 1 person serving the meals during lunch time on a saturday, waited 10minutes to order to discover food would be around 30minutes or.so and with 2 young kids who were hungry we decided to go elsewhere, there were dirty plates on the tables that hadnt been cleared at all, having been to a wetherspoons in other locations i was highly disappointed with this one and definately not going back

I was ill after a visit to my local Wetherspoons,something has to be done about lack of staff terrible food,dirty tables. It would be a great shame to lose it.

This is our local "Spoons" and, while we are fans of Wetherspoons in general, and have visited many from as far afield as Bristol and Aberdeen, I'm afraid our own one has become an embarrasment. A very poor first impression when looking for a table which has not been cleared of previous plates (often with unfinished food on them) and glasses is bad enough, but it seems to be unable to consistently provide basic items from the menu e.g. no lamb shank at 2pm, certain curries not available on "Curry Club" day. It appears to be very understaffed or maybe the staff are just demoralised. We have become very disappointed. Maybe Mr Martin should keep his nose out of politics and concentrate on his pubs !!!!

I was staying in Hawick just recently and went to the bouretree as it was a wetherspoons when we are away we always look for a spoons well I can't tell you just how much this place disappointed the place was just chaos the tables were not cleared most people cleared there own I cleared the table then had to find someone to wipe it the seats were filthy.

Egg Benedict is fantastic value for money and the surroundings are very nice pleasant staff. Free refills on coffee and tea. Fabulous value for money.

At 69 years old I have had good and bad experiences but this has to be the worst Lunch date I have ever had. Lack of staff may have been the reason for this excuse for a Dining experience but please stop serving meals if this is the best you can do..Meal was stone cold and no interest was shown to our complaint.

This is a Wetherspoons pub that has been very well transformed and is bright and airy with various places to sit so good for parties etc. The food fare is typical 'Spoons with a drink included in many of the dishes on offer

Since management changes you can see there is endeavours to keep the place tidy and more efficiently run. However the food is not good, I'm sure that the overheating in the microwaves & waiting to be served are at fault.

We went to The Bourtree(Wetherspoons)while on holiday in Hawick,Scotland it was very busy and we enjoyed our meals.

Visited this place after a longish drive from glasgow today around 2ish. Took an age to actually find a table that was clean and didnt have the previous clientele plates on it. Toilet is up 2 flights of stairs but are spotlessly clean. Waited a wee while to get served only 1 girl on the bar and she looked very new to bar work. In saying that she had a lovely manner and was friendly enough. We opted for the gourmet burgers. one bbq and one ultimate. Burgers are plentiful and rather tasty. Was worth the wait. Would recommend but if u need the toilet I would go to that 1st as the wait to be served is timely.

Went to the Bourtree this evening with my wife and ordered macaroni cheese which was not enough to feed a child and one soggy piece of garlic bread and a few chips. The tables were a disgrace and a staff member dropped food on the floor. Needless to say we won't be rushing back.

First time back in Hawick for 35 years all I wanted was some haggis, needs and tatties and prayed it was on the menu - it was😀. A lovely evening meal at reasonable prices.

Our annual trip back to Hawick means a trip to The Bourtree for food and drink, my only problem was when we came for the curry night they had ran out of most of the curries and it was only 7 0'clock!! The curries we all ended up with were very nice and we were served very quickly considering there was 8 of us. As always at a Weatherspoons the drink and food is at a competitive price, and my report last year was excellent, but this year only very good, mainly because of the lack of choice of the curries - sorry guys. Staff were excellent as usual, would we come back? Yep! But sort out the curries people.

We used to look forward to a steak here but I am afraid it has all changed since there was a change of Manager. Overdone steak which sits at the serving hatch until almost cold; had to ask to get table cleared and wiped clean; very disappointing in every aspect. A few changes required urgently as standard has dropped; need more friendly staff

The ambiance is elegant and the menu looks good, though I wouldn't know how the food is since I was unable to get my order taken either time I was there. Too many tables and too few help. In any event, they had the best deal on draft brews that I saw anywhere during my six weeks in Scotland. If you've a thirst, belly up to the bar and try one of their specials. My positive value rating is only for the drinks.

I would like to think that the situation will improve on that front. However on my visit, things were all good with clean tables and efficient service. Prices always competitive and a good range of ales and beers

Really disappointed with Wetherspoons gin festival Gins are there Mixers are there Garnishes all there Staff unfortunately haven't been even basically trained.Aftet asking for specific tonic (which I could actually see behind the counter & being told it was unavailable twice I had to direct the member of staff to its hiding place

We went for a drink last Wednesday evening at 6pm, there was a queue of about 12 people in front of us with only one person serving

We used to think this was one of the best Wetherspoons in Scotland...thern this year the new District Manager sacked the Bourtree's Manager because he was working extra hours to keep the place up to snuff and not booking himself in. Some of his staff went with him and for a time the place was staffed with anyone they could get from their other branches. The service then was dreadfull - several times we ordered meals and drinks via the App, the order came up on the screen but the staff ignored it. Twice we waited 20 minutes and then went to the bar to get it served - no real apology just indiffenece. We cannot think of anything this palce could bo to redeem itself. In out eyes this place goes from "The Best Wetherspoons in Scotland" to "body swerve recommended" unless cheap drink is all you are after.

No clean tables when we arrived. Went to order no Nachos, no gammon steak, no sirloin so no mixed grill. Ordered 14oz rump steak. The dirty plates were removed when our food arrived but the dirty glasses never removed & table not wiped. Waitress brought food & said "try & find you a steak knife" I am still waiting.

This is one of the brightest Weatherspoons we have been in. I have to visit Weatherspoons when they are available. We had the 3 small plates which were great.

This is a Wetherspoons pub but the meal was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed it too. Was once a conservative club so lots of the old fixtures and fittings remain which made it more interesting.

A beautiful, historical building with standard wetherspoons fayre. More staff at the counter would enhance visits but once ordered food comes quickly although could have been hotter.

Having used many weatherspoon establishments this has to be one of the worst sadly. Took 15 to find a table that wasn't left in a state, seemed to be no one clearing tables. Eventually we had to sit at a dirty table, ask a server to clean it. Food all over the floor, sticky tables and sticky menus. Just a restaurant that cant be bothered. Only went in for a drink and a bowl of chips but wish we had not - the environment was terrible. Potential in sure but far off today.

Came here for breakfast with some friends while visiting Hawick.

On arrival the table booked the previous evening was not booked. There were 9 in the party so this was very disappointing. The meal was awful with cold samosa's and a steak not cooked. Handed back the steak for reheating and the person was forgotten about...terrible and incompetent.

Couldn’t have what I wanted as for children and adults with small appetite I complained and felt intimidated and couldn’t say much as wouldn’t listen wouldn’t recommend at all very bad experience today and won’t be going back

Typical of each of these pubs where food is available up until 11:00 pm. Why would you want to visit this value for money restaurant.

Working in Hawick and was glad to see there was a Wetherspoons for reasonable food and drinks. Staff in Bourtree are top notch and all keep very busy....always! Place is very clean and it's a very friendly atmosphere. Well done guys....

This is a Wetherspoons Restaurant. We couldn't find anywhere else open on Sunday 20th May in Hawick so we ventured in and were sorry that we did! On first impressions the old conservative club has a good air about it and the menu is varied...

Whats gone wrong with this place? Arrived around 7.00pm for a small celebration on "Steak Tues" only to be told they had run out of steak's! Decided to have Scottish pie & chips, no pie's!! Ordered Scottish burger with extra cheese, arrived with no cheese!...

Like so many of it’s kind, in a magnificent Victorian building and the main area a vast hall, it caters for all ages. The service is quite fast and the food typical pub food and themed nights, eg Curry, Fish and Steak nights. Prices are...

Nothing wrong with the food in here but the state of the place with food on the floor, tables not cleaned properly its filthy, waiting for ages on service and by the looks of things they were short staffed, its been 2 years since i was last in here but will give it a miss in future as there are far nicer places in Hawick to eat.

We visit once a year and the meals here are always of the same Wetherspoons standard,however,find staff very friendly and helpful. Will return next year,hopefully.

This is a great facility to have on your doorstep! I came in for breakfast before a longish journey; good value well cooked traditional breakfast with unlimited coffee - just what was needed for the day ahead!

The value of the food served is ridiculous , especially the steak and kidney pudding. There is not much meat in these puddings and once heated the meat all but disappears. This is charged at £6.60 which is a downright rip off. Complained but made...

Never had a problem with food from the bourtree, a Wetherspoons pub. It's inexpensive but of good quality for the money. Nice decor and a comfortable place to meet up with friends or family.

I enjoyed a quiet, relaxing coffee here en route to Melrose recently. I chose to sit in the lobby on a comfy Chesterfield sofa, and tucked away in the corner I discreetly watched all the world and his wife come and go in the space...

We visited the Bourtree on New Years evening with a large group of friends. The place was very busy with customers but the young staff coped extremely well, food came out timeously and food quality very good. The real ale is always kept top notch,...

I think average describes this place well. The main attraction is the price, always very reasonable. Food is ok but not special. It is always busy here and the premesis are well kept.
