Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

We called in on our travels north. We were the only ones in the cafe on a wet, chilly Saturday afternoon. I could not believe how quiet the place was. The lady and gentleman were amenable. We chose the tomato soup and bread. We wondered if the soup had a tinned tomato soup base with other ingredients such as chilli added? However, the bread tasted absolutely amazing! It was sourdough. Afterwards the gentleman gave us a loaf to take with us. My husband thought it was the best bread he’d eaten in a long time and we were able to savour it for a few days. We shared a flapjack. My husband found the coffee tasty and I enjoyed my cup of tea. I hope more customers visit this cafe on a Saturday afternoon.

Monday lunchtime and couldn’t find a single dog-friendly place to eat in Jedburgh, we were about to give up when a local shopkeeper recommended Brown Sugar. We were welcomed warmly, and so was the dog, service was quick and friendly. We both ordered the home-made tomato soup which was the best we’ve ever tasted. It came with thick chunks of the bread they bake on the premises, which was the perfect accompaniment.

Just down the street from the town square, this little place was the first we came across returning from Mary Queen of Scots house. It was a lucky find as it is clean, offers a great variety of quick choices and is reasonably priced. It is a coffee and light lunch place so those who expect a gourmet 5 star bistro should just keep on walking. We liked and appreciated its simple and quick menu and service.

Popped in for a coffee and soon wished we hadn't. The cafe had a terrible damp smell which was very off putting. Young girl at counter was obviously not wanting to be there. Service without a glimmer of a smile. Coffee luke warm and cake certainly not fresh. Several chills/ fridges sitting empty and switched off and a variety of " ornaments" that were simply dust collectors. Whole place needs a new lease of life.

Even though we just had quick tea for two, the service was nice and the tea was of good quality. We tried the Caramel shortbread which was outstanding, with an oat(?) shortbread as a base. Recommended as seats are the two armchairs were drinking tea from old porceillan feels even nicer.

We were served by what was the most petulant of waitresses, who literally huffed and puffed at every request (I asked for no butter because of the need to avoid dairy - met with rolled eyes), was told they wouldn't be able to provide a receptacle to heat a baby's milk bottle (were told that the bowls they had were "too shallow" - one of our party actually went into the kitchen and the cook provided a larger bowl) and upon receiving my non-dairy roll, they had replaced it with mayo which I hadn't requested - the look on her face when I asked for it to be taken back was priceless. By the end, it was actually quite comical at how rude she was being. Maybe she'd had a hard day but the place was quite empty for a Saturday.

We visited for a late lunch after checking out the dog friendly options in Jedburgh which seem to be very limited on a weekday lunchtime. Service was very friendly one of our party had a large vegetable soup which he enjoyed, I had a be excellent mushroom & Stilton burger which came with salad and good chips. The other half is gluten intolerant so had a cheeseburger without the bun (their burgers are 100% beef) with chips and salad and was equally impressed. They also do paninis and other options as well as takeaway options. Prices were good, portions large and tasty will definitely go back next time we’re in Jedburgh.

Good menu with lots of veggie options and choice of upgrading standard chips to sweet potato chips is great and I wish more places would copy their lead. I had sweet potato falafels with salad and a homemade sauce - delicious and healthy - which is often hard to find when eating out. Good sized pot of tea, and a cheese scone to take away for my afternoon walk. My dog was welcome as well, which was essential on a cold day because I wouldn't have wanted to sit outside.

on google several pubs in Jedburgh were dog friendly on visiting three we discovered they neither welcomed dogs or children. we stumbled on the quirky Brown Sugar and were made welcome and shown to a table. The restaurant had that feel of an antiques salesroom with an assortment of tables and chairs and nick knacks. Very good to see provision of toys and books for small children and water bowl for the dog. The staff were lovely. we sat near the kitchen and the smell of fat rather overpowered the room. The burgers both spicy veggie and meat were in lovely bread but overcooked. The chunky chips looked liked shop bought and the platter of assorted asian themed goodies felt like Mummy had been to Iceland. Ambitious offer not hitting the mark. Keep it simple and you'll become a real reason to visit.

We were not disappointed. The place is welcoming and cheery, the food is excellent and not expensive. Both times we went we had the salt and pepper squid which was delicious and the coffee was proper coffee. This cafe has good food, but taking food away is a hassle! 15minutes wait for a box of chips, no apology for the wait. I've been in an ordered chips before and waited minutes, 5minutes max. If the wait is inevitable then a warning to say there will be a wait would be sufficient/an apology for the wait - I received neither sadly. Chips weren't even cooked properly to add to it, they tasted as if they had been cooked 3 times over, dirty oil. First time this has happened, normally are fresh and lovely. Staff are not the most welcoming either, one member of staff in particular is very abrupt and rude, no smiles nothing. Makes me and my colleagues feel as if we aren't wanted in there, that we are a burden to her. None the less the food is lovely.

Stopping for lunch on our way home to Edinburgh, we stopped in Jedburgh and came across the Brown Sugar coffee shop by chance. There was a sign with an arrow from the car park, but it wasn't clear which way the arrow was pointing so we headed into town to find somewhere to eat, and there it was.Meal 1 - sweet potato and honey soup, with cheese and ham sandwiches. The sandwiches were like door stops, delicious fresh bread, and great ham, with a steaming bowl of soup which was lovely. Enjoyed for the simplicity of it.Meal 2 - pancakes with bacon and maple syrup - ordered because I had eaten a large breakfast and wanted something fairly light! Well, it was fantastic, though not light. A stack of pancakes with thick bacon slices in a pool of wonderful maple syrup - I polished the lot off without hesitation.Meal 3 - classic cheeseburger with a bucket of chips. Big chunky burger, plenty of salad, lots of oozing cheese and burger relish (possibly home-made), and a huge serving of chips. We expected a little silver bucket, with about 8 chunky chips - we were wrong - lots of chips in a decent size bucket. Not the cheapest coffee shop I've ever been in, but the price reflects the quality of the food, service and size of servings. It was a little chilly in the upstairs section when we first arrived, we were the only ones sat up there, but the staff very quickly recognised this and turned the heater on, so we soon warmed up.The weather in Jedburgh was miserable so we didn't stay to explore, but when we revisit in the summer we will definitely return to the Brown Sugar Coffee Shop.

We had promised our Selves we'd call in for the Fish & Chips (which looked great value at a Fiver) on our return journey, but decided we'd have them, when we got home. Instead, we had two mugs of excellent coffee and a cheese scone that had been baked to perfection.Brown Sugar does Good Food, and they have a wide choice on their menu!I very much liked the way the owners have chosen the furniture; and the layout of tables. This cafe has an atmosphere befitting the ancient town of Jedburgh. We will return! Check out the closing times, which can vary between 3 and 4, in the afternoon! Early Birds will be assured of an excellent breakfast!

Popped in briefly for tea whilst visiting Jedburgh's two main attractions (the abbey and the jail museum). Nice cuppa, certainly, but the thoughtful and courteous service stood out most. Handily located close to the town's central square.

Visited here for first time and was pleasantly surprised by the inside. Perfectly decent coffee and cakes, prices not the cheapest.

We were travelling back from SE England to our Inverness home and this spot was one of our welcome breaks on a 630 mile journey. So great to park outside and then enter with our two dogs to a great smile from the two young ladies serving. We slumped gratefully into the two winged chairs close to the counter and were quickly offered a dog bowl of water for our travelling companions Harry and Isla Cavalier King Charles spaniels. Freshly brewed ground coffee, tea and two cakes were ordered . Great conversation with servers and owner of this 2 year old business. We are so happy to support such good local business and will return on our new exit and entry A68 route.

We stopped for a pint after a walk. The beer was good. We didn't eat so no comment.

Best bakers in the Scottish Borders, their apples pies are absolutely delicious. In fact anything you buy is lovely highly recommended.

With its dark wood furnishings, including a very large gantry, and most of the wall space covered in framed rugby strips, photos etc, the public bar in the Black Swan could almost be described as dark and old fashioned. It can also feel cramped at times as everyone tends to shun the other bar (and rightly so - ‘cos it’s horrible). The public bar is a place where you have a decent chance of meeting some wee, unintelligible drunk bloke (or two) in the corner, but it is also a place where it is easy to strike up conversation with locals at the bar. In many ways the Swan is like a pub from the past and is pretty unique in Kelso. Perhaps that’s why we always come in whenever we visit the town. It is an ordinary, no frills, traditional Scottish pub with good service and good lager and good banter. It suits us perfectly well.

Had a great afternoon tea. Our dietary needs were catered for and we were offered lots of tea and coffee. There was a lovely selection of savoury and sweet things and it was very good value for money.
