Turned up 20 minutes early for booking and was told straight away that they wouldn't take our order until the booking time, hadn't even asked which I found strange. We were booked for 7pm but they didn't end up taking our order until at least 20 past and didn't get our first course until just before 8. Quality of the food was very good, just let down a little by the service. Would still recommend.

We've Lived around the corner for a few years now and eaten there several times. The food is always fantastic as are the staff and the atmosphere, oh and its dog friendly too. We had Sunday lunch there this weekend and I can honestly say that it's the best that I've ever had when out and about. The beef was tender and lots of it and the trimmings were also superb. I literally cannot fault it. Well done guys and keep up the great work 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

On August 30, my wife and I called in for some lunch. We were not disappointed. The menu was extensive. I had a delicious spicey Cullen Skink as a starter, followed by the honey glazed ham salad with a runny fried egg on top. I understand that the ham (two huge thick slices) was cooked and prepared in-house. The taste was outstanding. I couldn't quite finish it all so I prepared a "doggy bag" and finished it off for lunch at home the next day. My wife had the Chicken Goujons, followed by Eyemouth Fish and Chips. I tasted a bit of her fish. It was fresh and the batter was crisp and superb. I would describe our meal as outstanding, wholesome food, excellently prepared. The lunch was served in the bar, which had a charming and rustic atmosphere, consistent with a small rural town. The lady that attended to us was extremely welcoming and friendly. The food was served quickly and efficiently. One thing we did notice however, the bar was a bit chilly. The outside temperature had dropped considerably overnight and obviously taken the staff by surprise because the internal heating was still switched off. However, this did not detract from an excellent lunch experience. I would thoroughly recommend this place.

On entering the Plough, I found it to be light, spacious, and welcoming. We chose to have Black Sheep as it was on tap at £4.40 a pint (a little steep for a Northerner) and again, found this well looked after and thoroughly enjoyable. For food, we had fish and chips and Pork Gyros. Again, both of which were spot on. The Gyros was perhaps a little too big and could feed two people easily, and that's coming from someone with a large appetite!! Verdict: top notch!

We have had a mixed experience. Friday we had an amazing takeaway with a couple of pizzas and burger of the week. They were really good easily 4 stars. We decided to go back today for Sunday lunch and it was very poor. Burnt yorkshires, veg just a tad off being raw and fatty pork with rind hidden underneath for the crackling. It was really disappointing and felt like the staff knew it wasnt great, as nobody asked how the food was or if we had enjoyed it just brought us the bill. It seemed a few plates from other tables were going back quite full so presumably others felt the same which was a shame after our experience earlier in the week and reviews. Not sure if the chef was away or something!

Went for a meal. Drinks not what we ordered. Had to ask for someone to take our order after 15minutes. Waited for 1hour for our meals (2mains). A table of three who ordered after us got their meals first. Presentation of meal's poor. Had to ask for side plate to sit poppadoms and naan bread on as was sat on top of rice. Curry tasted bland and rice tasted and looked like a microwave rice. Chicken with bacon and whiskey sauce, looked like mush, couldn't taste whiskey sauce and veg over cooked. Service poor. Visited here on the first night of our holiday in the town, meals were at best average. I ordered the curry which was chewy chicken, sauce had bits of cut up salad in and served in a soggy popadom. Was just bizarre. Other people in the party had different meals but again just average. We did not visit here again for food so can’t say this is the usual. Called for a punt after a long day walking but again just lacking in any effort. Lots of potential this place but the people working there just seemed like they couldn’t be bothered! Seemed ok if you were local but I personally I did not get a welcoming feeling.

Saw some reviews on here and there web page seems to make out theres a high quality chef, me and my wife ordered the fish and chips and my son got a burger, pretty basic pub grub at its best, more dissapointed than anything as we were expecting better, even some hand cut chips would have been nice instead of frozen packet ones, as said on a previous post I think the locals seem to get more attention from the staff, the chef came out behind the bar and was chating to some of the locals and his choice of language was disgraceful considering we were sat there with our son, Also, I heard the owner say to the table of locals "if someone gets a Larger and lime we dont charge the Locals 90p for the cordial" not really a thing to blurt out when you have a mix of passing trade.

We dined here two nights ago. On previous visits I had been impressed by the choices on the menu which were suitable for coeliacs; this was the main reason we decided to return. When the waitress brought our menus, nothing was indicated about gluten-free choices, so I asked the waitress to speak to the chef and find out what he could offer a coeliac. She said she would and then came back five minutes later asking if we were ready to order. She had to be asked again about choices for coeliacs. She returned and said fish and chips, or the chef could do me a chicken breast and rice with mushroom sauce. I absolutely loathe mushrooms, but it's not the chef's fault that mushrooms are my nemesis. I was left with only one option for my main course, fish and chips, which I really didn't fancy in this hot weather. I then enquired about what starters were suitable, but it turned out the waitress had only asked the chef about main courses.

We have dined here four times recently and every single time we have been delighted with the service and the food. I have to rigorously avoid gluten in my diet; when I explained this to the waitress, the chef came out to speak to me and explained exactly what was suitable for me on the menu. He clearly understands the problems not only of gluten-free ingredients, but also of cross-contamination - each of the four meals I have had were delicious and in no way felt like a compromise at all. The last time I was there he prepared me a special 'off menu' sauce. I usually dread having to go out to eat - I almost invariably go home hungry, and I initially had to be dragged out to the Plough, but I am so glad I was. We will be returning frequently as long as Chef Lawrence is still there. And his gluten-free fish and chips is out of this world!

A welcoming pub with good food. The pub is undergoing some modernisation in the bar but that did not detract from the lovely food, pleasantly served. The fish in particular is good, fresh from Eyemouth daily the chef told us, the sauce with the sea bass was gorgeous. The steak pie too is to be recommended with lots of beautifully cooked meat. The portions are generous, never managed a desert, but my husband had the soup starter once and said it was lovely. The glasses were sparking and the beer well kept.

With its dark wood furnishings, including a very large gantry, and most of the wall space covered in framed rugby strips, photos etc, the public bar in the Black Swan could almost be described as dark and old fashioned. It can also feel cramped at times as everyone tends to shun the other bar (and rightly so - ‘cos it’s horrible). The public bar is a place where you have a decent chance of meeting some wee, unintelligible drunk bloke (or two) in the corner, but it is also a place where it is easy to strike up conversation with locals at the bar. In many ways the Swan is like a pub from the past and is pretty unique in Kelso. Perhaps that’s why we always come in whenever we visit the town. It is an ordinary, no frills, traditional Scottish pub with good service and good lager and good banter. It suits us perfectly well.

A very welcoming atmosphere, heat staff who were very dog friendly. Food was good and would recommend the restaurant and beer!

Had a great afternoon tea. Our dietary needs were catered for and we were offered lots of tea and coffee. There was a lovely selection of savoury and sweet things and it was very good value for money.
