Having spent a happy day enjoying the Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels, we went here for dinner. It was Monday and we were told the kitchen was closed. The proprietor offered to cook for us though, as his colleague had previously said they would be open. We all ordered fish and chips. We were not disappointed. The best fish and chips I have eaten in a long time. Great, friendly service service and a good wine list. I enjoyed a delicious Sauvignon with my meal. Highly recommended. We will go back.

The bar area could do with a good tidy up and lick of paint . My steak pie had great flavour but the beef was not edible, could hardly cut it. Huge Fish was nice n light and tasted good, but the triple cooked chips were over done. its went backwards slightly in my book , sorry.

Let's start with the positives: Great location, bed was very comfortable and Full Scottish Breakfast was plentiful and cooked well... when it was eventually served, that is! The negatives were that the room, and especially its ensuit bathroom, needs some TLC to say the least and, if you leave tea and coffee in the room, you should also leave a spoon or two in order to stir your hot drinks. As for breakfast; when you let the hotel know you will attend at 8am, get to the bar early for 7:55am, don't get served until 8:15am and breakfast doesn't arrive to the table until 8:44am having clearly stated we had to be somewhere for 9am, just about underlined this place. So a rushed breakfast had to be had, and thanks to the Clovenford Hotel, we were late to our main event. This place really does lack that customer care one would expect from an establisent such as this. Alas, we will not be back as we gelt somewhat disappointed with it all and that feeling that the high cost of the room did not match with its state or the service that was provided to us.

Just left the hotel after a very disappointing, yet pricey, meal. My husband was served undercooked chicken. I pointed this out to our server when he collected our plates. He said he'd mention it to the kitchen. We were charged full price with very little in the way of an apology. There are much better places in the Borders to spend your money.

I travelled by myself to see my future puppy and was welcomed by very kind, hospitable, and helpful staff. I did not catch any of their names but they were all very welcoming to Cody, my puppy who accompanied me on my two nights at the hotel. I slept wonderfully in the room and the food was exquisite, really great value for money. Obviously its a little removed from places with ammenites that are just around the corner but I was just there to be with Cody and rest, so I considered I had a great experience, would definitely reccomend and would love to go back.

Came here last night for dinner, my daughter is gluten free and very wary of eating out. The owner came over and explained, that everthing that was fried was gluten free as they only have the one fryer. Such a large and wonderful menu that she could choose from. Not forgetting the hot chocolate brownie or the sticky toffee pudding both served with homemade icecream were also gluten free! Will definitely recommend to anyone who is celiac. As we had a lift home we left our car overnight in the car park, when we arrived the next day the car battery was flat. Luckily the manager arrived and promptly went off in his car to fetch his own jump leads, returning to help us to get ours started. He would not accept any payment that we tried to give him to say thanks. A genuine act of kindness that helped us so much! Visited on Friday night and had an excellent dinner. My partner and 2 friends all had the pie (my partner recommended our friends to have the pie as says the guy that owns this place is a genius - pastry is perfect and lots of good quality locally sourced meat inside.) I was recommended the Chicken Flatbread Kebab and it was delicious. The owner is clearly a foodie, a great trained chef and it shows in the food. Plus him and his team are so nice and friendly. This place is consistent - I always really enjoy dinner there.

We are a family of 3 and stopped off for a bar meal (lunch) on the way back to Scotland after a trip in England. We hadn’t booked but if (when!) we go again I’d definitely do so as I think we managed to get the last free table. We were made to feel exceptionally welcome and the food was definitely worth stopping for. Our 12 year old had the 6” child sized pizza which was home made and a good sized lunch for our son. He thoroughly enjoyed it and it kept him filled through to dinner time. My wife had a roasted pepper, pesto and mozzarella toastie with salad which she rated highly, and I had the Mac and cheese (with chips and a side of onion rings). The Mac and cheese and chips was classed as a “light lunch”, but the portion size would’ve been acceptable as a bigger meal. The triple cooked chips were fabulous. So glad we stopped here and would highly recommend it.

The fish and triple cooked chips are amazing and the teens loved the home made pizza. The menu changes regularly to fit with seasonal food. I had the mussels, frites, but I can also recommend the pork belly (with crackling!), chef’s pies and pizza. Get a cocktail or beer, have some fabulous food and enjoy the fire, ambience and friendly surroundings. I can’t wait to go back and definitely will. Keep doing what you do.

The Clovenfords Country Inn Hotel is a very welcoming family run little gem, ideally suited as a base to explore The Borders or venture further into Scotland. The setting couldn’t be more pleasant at the hub of the village and routes to other locations including Galashiels, Peebles, Sterling, Montrose, Edinburgh and beyond; quintessential to the village and on bus routes easily connecting you to these and other local towns, villages and places of interest. The countryside and beautiful landscape is second to none with the river Tweed running close by and accompanying you along the road if you travel to Peebles and ideal for fishing, waling, driving or just taking it all in. The Inn is comfortable, warm and inviting, serving great breakfast, lunch and dinner with the best Sunday Carvery you’ll find. Nothing is too much trouble for Roy, Ross and the rest of the crew. Although the hub or the village, it is still quiet and tranquil with ample space to relax, the rooms are well appointed and the place is big enough without being sprawling to give privacy and still maintain a feeling of being full of life. A very accommodating large function room, large car park, great pub and dog friendly too (not the function room) what more could you want? Superb value for money.

Start with the positive - lovely fresh sandwiches with a great selection of fillings. Plenty top ups of tea & coffee. Friendly staff. However despite the fact this had been pre booked the vegetarian option for sandwiches was cheese with various things such as tomatoes onions but all cheese! The vegan option was lettuce tomatoes & cucumber on what I presume was gluten free bread going by the texture. There were no cakes or scones for a vegan option - very disappointing in this day & age!. The cakes and scones for the non vegan did not appear home made. No cream for the scones - they said when asked "we don't normally do cream" to be fair they don't advertise cream scones. There was plenty food so you won't leave hungry but due to the lack of vegan we won't be back - different if we'd just turned up but as I said this was pre booked.

My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon here over 20 years ago. As I was in the area I decided to see if it was as we had remembered it. The restaurant was excellent and locals at the bar were friendly and happy to chat. Bed was not the best I’ve slep in but it was ok. The area is very quiet and a beautiful part of the country.

Tried out the new carvry is really good. Good choice of meats and vegetables. Very good choice and flexibility for children. Will definitely be back.

Some of the reviews on here are for the conservotary restaurant, which , as far as I can tell is no longer in use. We ate in the pub at the front which was a proper pub , warm , cosy and welcoming - not fine dining but fantastic atmosphere and good quality pub Fayre meals with a modern twist.

We had dinner earlier this week, a party of 6 turning up without a reservation. The staff were lovely and helpful. The food is both well presented and tasty. Oh, and there's a decent serving, too.

My partner and I visited today as we'd heard that the food was worth a try. We weren't disappointed by the roast pork and crackling offering - well presented and enjoyable. We both ordered it and were pleased that we had - only thing missing was apple sauce which we'd have liked. Other food going to surrounding tables looked equally tasty, especially the chicken goujons which had amazing looking batter on them!

Cold, noisy, expensive. Does not diserve 3 stars. Room n°6 on the groudfloor should not be a room. It is closed to the pub : you hear music, people laughing, doors banging. 106eu the night is a shame !!!! We are more than unhappy.

Not great by any means. I live local to this hotel and I have had two visits recently. Staff are great but there are so many dishes missing from the menu. I won’t be eating here again until the menu improves.

Just had a delicious roast beef sunday lunch here today. Large portion with plenty of vegetables…. And then a massive side portion of delicious cauliflower cheese. .. each! Very dog friendly and lovely staff. Totally recommend if you’re in the area.

Lovely coaching in on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Steeped in History and the staff and setting fantastic. Food was five stars and very reasonably priced

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.
