Very nice atmosphere near the University of Edinburgh. Great food. Waiting staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were new to the University of Edinburgh. They went above and beyond helping us with information about stores and busses.

We had a wonderful experience here! We were greeted very warmly and seated promptly and treated very well by our server. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was very inviting. We would definitely come here again.

The Salisbury Arms is a good location for food and drink. It offers comfortable surroundings and is dog friendly so you can eat in the bar area when taking your dog. Good quality food and friendly service staff. The steak and Malbec pie is excellent.

A big thank you to the Salisbury Arms for accommodating our ever growing party on Friday evening.After moving us into the private dining area we enjoyed an evening as a family on my daughters pre wedding party.The food was amazing and the dessert/cocktail combo was genius! The staff are a great asset to the company.

Great Sunday lunch - lots of options for food and a nice space

The best place I’ve been to on my trip so far! They didn’t have much room left but squeezed us in. Service was fast and attentive. The Sunday roast was AMAZING. Clean and warm atmosphere.

I found this place on a website as a place with vegan options, but geared toward meat eaters. There weren't a ton of vegan options. I think I tried every vegan dish on the menu. They were all delicious. My dinner guest had fish and loved it. The wait staff was very kind, attentive and wonderful. The space was nice and tucked away from the crowds during the Fringe.

Charming restaurant with great service and food! Loved the traditional decor and we were seated next to a large fireplace which was cozy. The duck salad and roast chicken were tasty, but the mini dessert and cocktail stole the show. Highly recommend the amaretto sour and lemon tart!

I had booked table 112 for 1.30pm. I arrived about 1.10pm to discover that I could not have that table. The gentleman in charge did not seem aware that a booking had been made. There were various other tables in the garden which were empty so I queried why table 112 was in use.and was told that tables could not be guaranteed. I would accept that if all other tables were occupied. I was then told that there was no table service and I would have to go to the bar for a drink. (This causes me problems as I have a broken right arm and issues with walking.) The gentleman also told me that table service to the garden had stopped about a month previously. I had received garden table service on 10th and 19th July. I felt that the gentleman in charge was not telling me the truth. I also had to stand at the bar waiting to get the bill as he had problems operating the till. I left and my husband went, in my place, the machine would not allow him to tap and I then had to go back to the bar and stand and wait. Compared to my previous 3 visits where I would have highly recommended the experience, I doubt that we will be returning in the near future.

Entered to see sign saying "wait to be seated" said we were just in for drinks and told to sit anywhere only to be told 20 minutes later we had to move to side table with high chairs as they now need tables for lunch orders. Had to leave as my wife suffers from back pain and the high tables are not comfortable. Wont be back.

Our group of eight was incredibly disappointed with our recent experience at Salisbury Arms. As the first customers of the afternoon, we anticipated a smooth start to our meal. Unfortunately, this was far from the case. The wait for our food was excessive, stretching over an hour and a half. When the food finally arrived, it was unremarkable, at best. To add insult to injury, our waitress displayed a consistently rude and sarcastic attitude throughout our visit, making for an unpleasant atmosphere for everyone. We were all left feeling extremely dissatisfied with our experience and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Was planning to eat in garden but smoke from smoker zone was drifting everywhere so ate indoors which looked smart and well maintained. Main of buttermilk chicken burger and fries was OK if a bit oily. Fared better with warm brownie with ice cream. Final bill of £28 (I also had a lime and soda) seemed a bit expensive as I left still feeling hungry as portion sizes were modest.

Great find. Opposite Royal Commonwealth Swimming Pool. Free off street parking. Sunday lunch was impressive and delicious.

Terrible welcome, we arrived at 8.30pm without having booked we asked if it was possible to eat, with an annoyed look they told us in monosyllables "kitchen closed" too bad that in the online booking the last table is expected at 9.00pm and the restaurant at 11.00pm . Well done, one of the very few places in Edinburgh where education is not provided. Too bad it had been recommended by friends who are there, or rather they were from home, who apologized for the poor impression.

Went for my friend's birthday meal. Every thing was 5star. Food excellent, drinks superb. Prices reasonable.

Beautiful establishment with stunning period interior features. Plenty of seating options indoors and outdoors in the enclosed garden area. The outdoor area seemed to be very family orientated as opposed to more quieter indoor dining. Food was excellent quality and the staff were friendly and professional .

The atmosphere is amazing. Lots of free parking space! The staff work so diligently; different people coming multiple times to check with us. I had the scallop and bread as a main. My friend had the duck salad. We were so pleased with the food and the nice decor of rhetorical restaurant!

We booked a table for inside but the weather was glorious so we asked if we could be moved outside and they organised it for us. Which made us super happy. We started off with drinks and then we had pizza. They were sold out of the three cheese and mushrooms pizza but I then chose the Margherita pizza with added mushrooms and bacon . My partner had the Diablo pizza. Normally I only eat one or two slices of pizza but my pizza was so yummy that I ate all except maybe one small piece. We had a brilliant time chatting and drinking and eating. When we left we were thanked by the staff who saw us leaving.

Fantastic first experience at the Salisbury Arms. First, easy parking available for free in thier own car park with ample space and large bays. The building itself is beautiful and inside that is plain to see. Excellent decor and thoughtful pieces that add to the warmth of the dining area fantastic beer garden also with heaters and comfy seating. We both has sandwiches as quick bites for a running lunch. They were delicious and a massive portion. My wife couldn't finish hers but all the more for me! Perfectly cooked steak and just the most delicious sauce served along with. Bravo to the kitchen, it was obviously cooked with love. The service is top notch too, not intrusive but very efficient and pleasant. We will be back. Congratulations to the team!

We ate there today and had the most disgusting cod and chips imaginable. The fish and inside of the batter was mushy ( probably frozen). We are local and eat there regularly but that was the worst ever.

This is a lovely place to go if you'd rather avoid the city centre. It's not any cheaper as a result of its location but the quality and value for money more than mitigated this. Plus you can take your car as there's ample parking. A special mention to the staff, who were all friendly and efficient. The Salisbury Arms is beautifully laid out and the beer garden is one of the prettiest I've been to with comfy seats and several heaters . My only gripe is that the accessible loo is kept locked which means you need to request access unless you have your own key, which thankfully I have. Other than that I really have only positive thoughts.

Popped into this little bar and was pleasantly surprised to find it was much more than a little bar! From our waitress Katie (who we found out is from the same city as us!!) to the atmosphere, amazing drinks, and quick, hot food, this was a very pleasant experience and we were so pleased.

Katie was our server tonight and it was just an absolute delight to be served by her! From the moment we came in for our booking to when we left she could not have been more helpful! My baby loved her too! It was a complete pleasure to have dined at Salisbury Arms this evening and Katie was a huge part of that. I’ve been to Salisbury Arms many times over the years and I’ve never had such amazing service. She said as we were leaving that she hoped we would return soon - and I can confirm that we 100% will thanks to Katie!

I love Salisbury Arms, usually. Sadly and I'm saying sadly rather than angrily, my recent experience at Salisbury Arms was less than stellar. I ordered a coffee/ tea and cake, for a wee birthday celebration for my friend and was met with rudeness by the server. Not acceptable. Also don't ask how much I spent. Mmmmm?

Katie, Thomas and Emily were so lovely today. I had the tempura sandwich, which was absolutely delicious with a forest mojito 🤩. And finally, I love the atmosphere of the place it has a really beautiful interior

Thomas was our server and made us feel very welcome with great service. Have been here a few times and highly recommend. Did their wine and dine deal at this visit and was great food and wine experience. Great value!!

I would have liked a bit more pork and less pepper on veg Otherwise large portion which overflowed the plate.

Absolutely shocking service. We waited about half an hour before anyone came to take a food order then at least another half hour for one starter to come. Meanwhile staff going in and out not paying us any attention. After starter went we waited another 25 minutes and still no main course, so I asked a member of staff, she went to find out and said it was due to a big table and the food was just coming, another 10 mins went by and I had to go and speak to the manager with a bad attitude saying the wait was due to a large table being late. Well we were on time for our table and if they can't cope with all the tables they had in they could have taken less bookings or not let as many people in. He said we were told of the large table, but we were only told this when I asked where our food was and as I told him if they had explained when we went in that there may be a long delay we had the option to go somewhere else. He did apologise, not very sincerely and it may have made things better if food was outstanding buy was mediocre. Very poor. Wouldn't go back.

Great spot for Sunday lunch. Good choice on menu and our beef sirloin came with plenty of veg, great yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. Option of mini dessert is nice
