The Sandwich Station

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, <20£
17/11/2018: Had the sandwich while waiting for my Ferry. One of the best sandwiches I have tried in Scotland. Definitely worth a visit. It's near the Lochranza Ferry Terminal and it's a good driving/walking distance from the Arran Distillery! A couple tables and benches outside available for use if there's good weather.
12/11/2018: Don't expect the ritz. It is what it says. A bit expensive really, but then you are a captive audience on an island.

The Blair

Annick, East Ayrshire
09/03/2019: It's been a few years since I last visited The Blair but decided to book a table for my wife's birthday. The surroundings are every welcoming with a large fire burning at the end if the restaurant. The menu is very comprehensive and I am sure everyone will find something to their taste. The portions are huge, I am a very big eater but after a starter then the mixed grill I struggled to finish my desert. All of the food was very well prepared, warm and well presented. I can recommend this restaurant for a nice relaxing meal in a pleasant atmosphere.
07/03/2019: Haven't been for a while but not disappointed. Food was excellent as always This was lunch to catch up with a friend, so enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere pleasant, helpful non intrusive staff. Won't leave it so long to return

The Coffee Pot

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
12/03/2019: I went for lunch with my husband and I ordered a garlic mushroom salad. It was one of the best salads I have ever had and the portion size would have fed both of us if only my husband doesn't have an aversion to salad....it was a trial but I managed to clear my plate. My husband had soup and a panini which again was great value for money the only down side was that we didn't have enough space left for one of their cakes which all looked delicious. Staff were very friendly and efficient we will definitely be back. Thank you.
01/03/2019: Small cafe but warm and friendly. The food is all home made, very fresh and tastes great.went back a second time as it was so good.

Wildings Hotel and Restaurant

Maybole, North Carrick and Coylton, South Ayrshire, 20-30£
17/03/2019: We always make a point of visiting this restaurant whenever we stay in the area. Lovely position with views out to sea, and the food is delicious. Nicely presented, efficient, friendly service. My daughter and I had the hake, beautifully cooked in a delicious sauce, and a good selection of vegetables and chips on the side. Their sticky toffee pudding is scrumptious, although I would prefer it with cream on the side rather than poured over it. Dilutes the delicious toffee sauce too much for me . My husband had the lamb which was tender and tasty, and son in law had the fillet steak which he thoroughly enjoyed. Nice atmosphere,a lovely evening.
17/03/2019: Just back from an overnight dinner bed and breakfast at the Wildings. We had a fantastic time. The dinner was fiest class and great value. The menu suited everyone as some of our crowd of 10 are really fussy eaters ! Service was excellent and everyone’s choice of courses went down well. We were all staying overnight which was a great decision. The 5 rooms were all of a great standard and not overpriced. What can I say about ALL the staff - every single one of them couldn’t have been more helpful and so pleasant and chatty. The even put up with our guys playing their guitars . Breakfast was brilliant as well. Lots of choice and well cooked. Whoever does the cooking for dinner and breakfast is doing an amazing xcellent job! This was a wee get together with old friends and the Wildings was the perfect place fir this. Thank you once again to the lovely staff - we will definitely be back soon

The Old Smiddy Strathaven

Avondale and Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire
04/02/2019: We were visiting Strathaven on business not pleasure and it was late in the day before we had a chance to eat. A warm welcome was received by a good natured young waitress who remained unflustered even when I changed my order at the last minute! A very extensive menu was available plus what looked like a wide selection of tasty cakes. We both had the sandwich and soup combo. The broccoli and cheese soup was exceptionally tasty.
27/10/2018: As it was such a lovely day my friend and I decided to visit Strathaven and have some lunch. A local recommended The Old Smiddy which I had been in before many years ago. We both had soup and sandwiches followed by a traybake and coffee. We were served promptly and the food was good. We were impressed by the staff who were friendly, polite and very efficient. All in all a very satisfactory visit and we even found some Christmas gifts in the adjoining gift shop.
