The Sandwich Station

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, <20£
17/11/2018: Had the sandwich while waiting for my Ferry. One of the best sandwiches I have tried in Scotland. Definitely worth a visit. It's near the Lochranza Ferry Terminal and it's a good driving/walking distance from the Arran Distillery! A couple tables and benches outside available for use if there's good weather.
12/11/2018: Don't expect the ritz. It is what it says. A bit expensive really, but then you are a captive audience on an island.

The Old Pier Tearoom

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
24/11/2018: Stopped here for lunch whilst touring round the island. It is a popular place that welcomes dogs. The gentleman serving was friendly and jolly. Lovely mac and cheese followed by huge pieces of salted caramel brownie. Clearly a place enjoyed by the locals too...always a good sign.
10/11/2018: A gorgeous victoria sponge cake, home made sausage roll with side salad and a super salad dressing... Do go there as the food is great and folks really friendly.

Stags Pavilion

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
10/11/2018: Another really lovely dinner...the salmon was awesome, and the ice cream selection awesome. Service brilliant and so friendly.. do go but remember in winter they are only open on a thursday, friday and saturday.
04/11/2018: Despite visiting Arran for more than 20 years, this was our first visit to Stags Pavilion after seeing the reviews on TripAdvisor. We weren't disappointed. In the idyllic setting of Lochranza with the sound of roaring stags in the background, this restaurant is just fantastic! On our table our starters ranged from baked camembert to minestrone soup and they were consistently excellent. The mains stole the show though. The lamb, a mainstay on the menu was beautifully tender, the shin beef I had melted like fish and the languistines had a pure taste of the sea. Tasty desserts rounded off the meal. On top of this, we had a lovely warm welcome from Valerie. A must visit on the island for sure.

Crown Inn

Clydesdale East, South Lanarkshire, <20£
02/12/2018: I recently met my cousin and niece, who is vegan, at The Crown - she was spoilt for choice and took a while to decide as there were so many delicious options including the tempura vegetables, soup, veg chilli and pizza - she went for the vegan pizza and we both had the veggie chilli which as delicious and a perfect size for a lunchtime meal. The service is always friendly and regardless of a huge menu the chef always gets food out very promptly. Lovely to have as our local.
28/11/2018: Visited for an aperitif before a meal and was pleasantly supprised by the enthusiastic and knowledgeable approach by the bar staff. Well worth a visit

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, >100£
20/11/2018: This wonderful restaurant is off the main part of the Hotel at Auchrannie , set in a conservatory just off the atmospheric old bar / lounge of the hotel. Excellent service from a waitress in the bar on a Sunday night where she suggested a small plate from this restaurant whilst we enjoyed a beer after swimming lead us to book for the Monday night as the restaurant would have been closed the rest of our stay.
02/11/2018: Really enjoyed our meal at Eighteen69, a restaurant with a difference. Not often you get Scottish Tapas and the selection was great. My wife and I picked 5 mains and the dessert cheese board sharing the lot. Total cost about £41 for food and we left full. My only complaint if I had one was that they say the dishes come out as and when they are ready, but for us they all came out within 20 minutes so it was for me a bit quick. That said I would go back in a heart beat and thoroughly recommend a visit.

The Gypsy Cream

North Coast and Cumbraes, North Ayrshire
30/11/2018: Wonderful hearty soup on a wet, dreich day. Not surprised the place (slightly off the main thoroughfare) was fully occupied. Friendly, attentive staff and excellent food served speedily and efficiently. Save some room for their delicious cakes. Wish they had a branch in Edinburgh!
07/11/2018: Recommended by work colleague who is a largs local and have been in twice since discovering this wee gem.Cosy with great choice of lovely soups and sandwiches/cakes.Superb service, immaculate and probably the most glam toilets in largs.Great place for a catch up where you can chat/eat and drink in relaxing space.

Dalry and West Kilbride, North Ayrshire
11/11/2018: Had a wonderful dinner here on 10 November. Food was excellent, staff were brilliant and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Certainly deserves its Michelin star. If you haven’t eaten here, I highly recommend it. I’ll hopefully be back in the future.
10/11/2018: Difficult to review this restaurant because there's nothing to comment apart from to say everything was 1st class, from the cleanliness of the premises to the service of the staff and quality of the food.

The Barony

Clydesdale East, South Lanarkshire, <20£
14/10/2018: Welcoming and friendly. Seated in perfect time. Served quickly and efficiently. Starters and drinks were served quickly and the rest of the meal followed all in good time. We were some of the last to leave due to a last minute late booking but we never felt hurried or rushed.
11/10/2018: We dropped in for lunch and although it wasn't too busy there were enough people in to create a nice atmosphere.

The Blair

Annick, East Ayrshire
18/12/2018: Great atmosphere on entry and throughout. Staff were friendly, efficient and professional. The Service was speedy and the food delicious, portions generous and well presented. What can I say? Exceeded expectation on all fronts.
12/12/2018: Once again the family had dinner at the Blair. Staff were great as my mum is 91 yrs of age and accomodated a smaller portion for her. The festive decorations just added to an enjoyable time too..

The Waterfront

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
06/11/2018: Really good choice of drinks including soft eg cucumber tonic etc Good veggie options, fish and meat Lovely staff , was easy to park on a Monday evening but otherwise could be a walk Reasonable prices

Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
22/11/2018: Fabulous cafe on the seafront. They cater for people with allergies & have a wide variety of choices. They also have a pet's corner for those with dogs. Quite a few dog owners were in when we visited. Reasonable prices too.
11/11/2018: We ate lunch here most days while in Arran. Tasty soups, and a good general cafe menu available. Great portion sizes and food was fresh. Service was excellent. If you want to guarantee a no frills, quality lunch with lots of choice definitely give Little Rock a try.

Small talk

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
30/11/2018: My first visit to this charming cafe/restaurant yesterday We picked a very busy time Short wait to be seated and served from a fairly extensive menu Cauliflower cream soup was delicious and piping hot! Sandwich and tea also. All "passing food" looked so appetising Quick friendly service Took hubby some home baking home
05/10/2018: This is a favourite spot for lunch or coffee and cake. The extensive menu is well priced and the homemade cakes are to die for. I defy anyone to walk past the display and not try one. Staff are great and always make time to chat to customers. Our two year old granddaughter is always made welcome and given some bricks to play with while waiting for lunch. Children’s menu is excellent too. Consistently good.

Kirkmichael Arms

Maybole, North Carrick and Coylton, South Ayrshire
16/12/2018: Me and my partner stopped in here as we were passing by the area. The food was really good and it came quite quick but it was let down by the women who served us as she was not very helpful. I asked about the special and her reply was " it's just what it says". I think that's just rude. Although she tried to be polite by saying thank you, come again etc, the usual waitress chat she did not sound like she even wanted us to be there. If the service was good I would of gave it 5 stars, I will be back to try again.
12/12/2018: Had lunch there yesterday, cannot fault the service or food. My friend and I had the pheasant, it was delicious, beautifully presented, good portions.

The Chestnuts Hotel Restaurant

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
08/11/2018: Great meals and terrific value in the early evening. Service always excellent, and well trained friendly staff always available for assistance/advice if needed.
07/11/2018: Lovely menu, lots to choose from. Staff were very efficient and helpful. Food was very tasteful and the sweet was just delicious.

The Secret Garden

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
28/11/2018: I often think that some of the nicest places we visit are pure accidents. We had pulled off the main road into Ayr following a "Coast" sign and we parked up at a small estuary to do a spot of birdwatching (very good).
25/11/2018: Went for a cycle from Prestwick to Ayr and stopped in this lovely wee place for a coffee. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my money, however the owner very kindly gave us a coffee and wasn't interested in payment. On returning to the car I drove to the shop to pay for the coffee's.... I would very much recommend this place and thank them for kindly giving us a coffee without looking for payment! genuine hard working people. Thanks again!
