Bistro Du Vin in Fife

Beautiful restaurant looking out to the sea. We were on a special birthday trip for my father and the staff couldn’t have made it more pleasant. Daryl Tom and Nelly in the restaurant were just lovely. The two girls at reception that day were great too. We had two beautiful rooms with a spectacular view of the sea and the golf course.

We had the pleasure of having a champagne afternoon tea here. Not only was the food amazing but the service too. We were lucky enough to be given a table at the window. Daryl and the manager were so very lovely and helpful.

After a recommendation- we had a group of friends meet for dinner at Bistro du Vin . We had seen on the menu they had baked Alaska & were looking forward to that . Sadly we found out that some new seasonal menus were on & this item had been removed. Any way we enjoyed a convivial evening with a variety of great food , wine & service. When it came to dessert time - we were delighted to find that Chef Pete had gone out his way to make a couple of portions .. we were absolutely delighted. Terrific gesture much appreciated. After dinner we had a few drinks in the bar & the great service continued with Daryl & his team. We will definitely return & delighted to recommend for great food & service throughout .

Used an Itison Voucher and what a great visit, will return.Tiger Prawns and French Onion soup to start, Steaks with Fries were excellent and brûlée dessert. Lovely time with great views over the beach and sea. Staff so friendly and looked after us both.

Visited today for meal, only bar meals but starting at 1pm, we arrived at 12.50 but weren’t offered an alternative to wait anywhere so walked around for 20 mins. On returning we were told by rather unfriendly & disinterested reception staff to take a seat & someone would be with us! A man asked if we wanted drinks but said food also, ordered the Normandy chicken for both of us & 2 soft drinks, we were left alone in a rather dark & dreary bar - food was served by a pleasant young girl - steak knives would have been better to cut the chicken though! Not once did anyone ask if everything was ok & when plates cleared if we enjoyed our meal. This was part of a gift voucher & no way will I spend the balance at this hotel! Felt that we were a total inconvenience.

A very nice restaurant, beautifully decorated, nice tables with great views, great food and excellent service.

We stopped in for an early dinner after exploring the town and old course during the day. We were served by Tom and Nia who were both delightful and happy to help in any way they could, even chatting to us a bit about the local area. The food was gorgeous and we had a lovely time in the restaurant. We'll done to all the staff!

We had an amazing time at dinner. Service was very attentive from both Steven and Tom who made sure to look after our every need. Grant came out to explain in detail each dish and made sure to answer any questions we had about the dishes. Sam performed the extravagant baked Alaska display, which in itself is a sight to behold. Overall we had a brilliant time and will definitely be returning.

Had a really great evening tonight, with amazing food all round and great service. All of the staff were really helpful, in particular Tom and Steven for their attentive service who were happy to help with anything we needed. Hats off to the chefs as the food was incredible, would highly recommend the French onion soup and the Chauteaubriand Steak. The restaurant also offers great views of the beach, perfect for watching the sun set over the sea. Will definitely be back!

Nous cherchions un lieu avec une terrasse couverte pour déguster nos cigares. C'est par hasard que nous avons découvert cet endroit qui est un hôtel-restaurant. Particularité derrière l'établissement il y a une terrasse ombragée pour pouvoir se prélasser après le golf et boire de bons cocktails.Nous l'avons choisi toute la semaine pour en faire notre quartier général des apéros.

What a fantastic stay, from the minute we arrived until we left.When we arrived we were advised by Alistair we were getting upgraded which was to the Eden Mill Suite, which was fantastic, Alistair and all his staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was the best it could be. Food was absolutely lovely. We could not fault this hotel, one of the best.

To be perfectly honest the best part of our experience was the view and the glass of champagne. The quality of the food was very poor. I chose a salmon mousse which most certainly wasn't mousse like. It was like rubber and it was very "wet" like it had been frozen and then defrosted. My husband had pork croquettes for starters which were passable but rather bland. We both had chicken leg salad for main course which consisted of a bed of leaves, two or three slices of avocado and a shedded chicken leg (complete with bone and gristle) on top with the tiniest drizzle of dressing. Utterly bland with nothing to tantalise your tastebuds. We didn't dare try dessert but went elsewhere. The service was adequate but the staff weren't exactly what you might call friendly. We won't be returning in a hurry.

You can have table service or buffet lunch, you can also combine the two. The hotel is an upper class establishment. The service is up to scratch, and everything is clean and tidy, and the staff very helpful.

We secured a table at the last minute. The Maitre D' was most helpful. The Wild Mushroom Risotto was fine, but needed something more (Parmesan?). We selected some interesting wines that the host suggested. Great location. A word of caution, I went back there for a club dinner with 100 and it was a dismal meal. Onglet of beef, cooked at a temperature of "once through a warm kitchen". Inedible. Too bad because the hotel is ideally located and should/could be so much better.

The best part of our experience was a nice window seat looking out to West Sands Beach at sunset. I must tell you I was shocked at the food quality and the service of what appears to be a very fine French restaurant. The French onion soup was incredibly thick, not very hot, and seemed to be from a pre-prepared source. We asked our waiter about the steaks and he replied that they were known for their steaks, so that is what we ordered. We both ordered filets medium, because in our experience most restaurants prepare medium as more medium rare - which is fine with us. Well, I am not sure if we insulted the chef, but the filet came out butterflied so it could be cooked more well done. When I questioned our server about this, he said he had never seen it prepared that way before! I should have sent it back, but I was concerned about what I may get instead. The meat was also tough and chewy. After that, our server was nowhere to be seen and someone else stepped in to finish serving us. The restaurant was not busy, and I overheard another table questioning something, so I believe that things were also off with their food. That was the absolute worst steak we have ever had. There are too many better restaurants in St. Andrews, (we've been four times), and I will never go back to Bistro Du Vin. Really shocked about this experience, and our servers made us feel that we had the problem.

My husband and I had the 4 course Sunday lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed the soup, the seafood buffet and the desert. For a restaurant of this standard, the Sunday roast beef and the rump steak were a bit disappointing as both were dry and tough However, the restaurant supervisor who asked for our feedback was extremely pleasant and helpful.

No estaba demasiado ocupado tampoco, lo cual fue genial, lo que significaba tiempo para un asiento con una vista fabulosa de la playa. El personal era muy amable y servicial, especialmente Ryan. Realmente nos cuidó bien mientras estuvimos allí y fue responsable de conseguirnos la mesa encantadora. La comida en sí era fantástica. Almuerzo de dos platos con una copa de Prosecco cada uno. ¡Cielo! ! Recomiendo si tienes la oportunidad de comer aquí. Las mejores notas.

We did not have reservations and they were close to closing for the night. The manager got us a seat and the service was wonderful. The manager was attentive and ensured that we were having a good experience. The food was very good and the martini was perfect.

Travel frequently to ST A and had eaten here several times before. Found it just OK. This trip was a major improvement. Food was much better, service was vastly improved, wine list had some nice choices. Good trend line.

We visited Hotel Du Vin for drinks only, staff were excellent and very friendly, service was quick and very efficient .

Comimos aquí en un cupón de Itison que se basa en el menú fijo para dos platos y una botella de vino de la casa. Tengo que decir que por alrededor de 40 esto representa una muy buena relación calidad-precio para una excelente comida. Además, el personal fue excelente en la prestación de un servicio amable y eficiente. Recomiendo encarecidamente comer aquí.

Habiendo cenado anteriormente aquí en septiembre de 2018, esperábamos una experiencia familiar positiva similar. A partir de mayo de 2019, sin embargo, este restaurante ha disminuido significativamente en todos los aspectos. Tras la confirmación de nuestra reserva por la noche, nos recibieron calurosamente y nos sentaron. Desafortunadamente, esta fue una gran farsa. Nos preguntaron si también estábamos alojados en el hotel, que no estábamos, y de ahí en adelante, la calidad del servicio fue una abominación.

Having enjoyed the imaginative and excellent  quality of the cuisine at the Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow we decided to try a relaxing evening in St Andrews with high expectations for dinner on a special occasion. What a dissapointment! Poor quality food served in the most basic presentation imaginable. All appeared to be mass produced, tasteless and not of the standard expected of a 4 star hotel. A vennison pie that contained ONLY 3 fatty lumps of meat without any pastry.(I wasn't aware that venison had any fat on it). The staff tried their best to recover the situation and I have to commend them for that but at the end of the day it was not their fault and the management need to up their ante in training, food  hygiene and attention to detail if they want guests to enjoy the dining experience.

I wrote a less than complimentary review of this St Andrews eatery in October, but since my husband and I were staying at the hotel this week, we were invited to try the restaurant again by Kevin, the new bistro manager.

There were 7 of us for Sunday lunch and we couldn’t have been more impressed. Kevin and his team were exceptionally welcoming and also made a special effort with the toddler in our group which was much appreciated. The food was delicious, unfortunately a couple of desserts were finished but we very much enjoyed the other options! Would recommend as excellent value for money!

We eat in St andrews every saturday. and we rotate round 5 or 6 places and this restaurant is relatively new to us. This is the second time we have eaten here ( on saturday)and to be honest this is a marvellous place to eat. the food is excellent , the service is first class. we were served by an exceptionally nice young man called Ryan who was polite ,courteous and couldnt do enough for us. The maitre d was excellent and this will now become one our regular places. food first class . I cant fault it and highly recommend. Its also beautifully decorated and is an absolute joy. How on earth this sits so low down on trip advisor is beyond me way better than that

On a Sunday night in January in St Andrews a few of the restaurants are shut but this is open and is a great choice. Food was great, wine was fab and the staff were really friendly. Highly recommended

Service from start to finish was first class. Waiting staff, mostly provided by Kevin, were attentive but not in your face. We were on a Groupon deal for dinner so you are always a bit apprehensive about what the quality of the food will be like, but it was faultless - my husband is a great salt and pepper lover, but none was required! We had a table set in the bay window with a lovely view over the West Sands.

Very average menu. Poor quality ingredients. Exceptionally long wait (45 minutes for our pudding). School boy errors in the presentation of vegetables.

Disfrutamos de un almuerzo relajante con una hermosa vista al mar. Nos saludó y nos sirvió Sue quien nos dio una cálida bienvenida y nos ofreció una selección de mesas en el restaurante. Elegimos del menú de almuerzo de precio fijo de tres platos y todas nuestras opciones llegaron a la mesa bien presentadas y sabrosas. En particular, el plato de raviolis de calabaza vegetariana estaba delicioso. El equilibrio de sabores en este plato era maravilloso y un crédito para el chef Grant. Fue nuestra primera visita al Hotel du Vin street Andrews, pero definitivamente no será la última.

Stayed in the hotel and had great breakfasts. Plenty of variety from cerial to hot cooked breakfast . Dinner menu also had good variety tasty and not overpriced.

My wife and I had a voucher for a 3 course lunch with champagne here. The choice was somewhat limited but the food was very good.

I was walking past this establishment and thought fantastic location with a good chain of restaurants, I’ll book a table and really looked forward to it. The sunset and view of the west sands perfect, the location superb, restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere that unfortunately spills over to the staff. Having ordered a salad as a starter the poor waiter must have got terribly confused. Starters were served apart from my salad, when I asked where it was, he came back 5 mins later to tell me “someone is working on your salad” Well the mental imagery I had in the following 10 minutes was quite something. The salad eventually arrived, then the main courses. My advice is go for the view and try and ignore the service. The food is what I cook at home , certainly no better.

Nice place for a 'treat' - lovely table by the window, interactive staff and a great view - if only we could have eaten the latter. I don't mind paying for good grub but when bread, veg and spuds are all 'extras' (and apparently even dressing for the side salad) it all gets a bit much. Mussels were inedible (stringy and stretched out like Copydex, rather than coming away in tasty succulent little pillows) and the Tartare tasted reasonable but (apologies to the bovine concerned) a tad gristly, which suggests the kind of mince better for a long slow cook. The liver, for the main course, was fine but the gravy - and sorry to be so picky here but please know I have not complained in years - was a tad Bisto in origin and not some superb reduced number. I had the aubergine bake, which would have been great if the aubergine had been cooked a bit more (we're not talking al dente here, just uncooked) and the sauce resembled packet soup slightly less. At this point we gave up, although something that looked like Eton Mess (nothing to do with politics) or could have been a witty little Knickerbocker number, looked promising. We did get refunded for the mussels but felt we could not say anything else as the staff were great. I can only assume, since the food when last sampled a couple of years ago was good, that Monday night is just not the night to go. I don't like to be harsh but honesty you had to be there to appreciate just what was on offer. A great shame for them and us - it was meant to be a lovely treat.

We have revisited the Hotel du Vin Restaurant for a discounted Voucher Champagne Lunch. To be honest, the last time in April this year we were very disappointed in the food but this time was excellent. New Chef and a new team in the Restaurant. Alan seems to be the Maitre d' and he is a real personality. You do not get many of them around these days and I was in the hotel management for over 40 years!. Sue and the rest of the team were also attentive and helpful. Service was prompt. The food was excellent. We both chose the same dishes ( choice of 3 on each course ) from the Prix Fixe menu. Bayonne Ham with Melon, Saute of Chicken Basquaise was very hot, tasty and substantial along with some plain boiled rice and an excellent sauce with peppers and black olives. Freshly cooked chicken. The sweet was a rich Chocolate Mousse with lightly whipped cream on top....delicious! Value for money was great and we have a second voucher booked for late September and we look forward to repeating the Lunch. Well done all at Hotel du Vin. we have seen the rooms....they are great but we did not stay

This was our second time for the Sunday lunch at Hotel De Vin in St Andrews and I was really looking forward to it as the first time has been really good. The waiting staff were excellent and I have no complaints on that score. Friendly and efficient. The cold buffet starter course was also excellent with no complaints whatsoever. However the roast beef was, sadly, tough as old boots. I literally could not cut it let alone eat it. My fellow diners felt the same although theirs wasn’t quite as tough as mine. If only the waitress hadn’t recommended it then most of us probably would have opted for something else! I didn’t want to send it back as there was 8 of us and that always causes such a delay and hassle and would have brought down the tone of what was a celebratory Birthday lunch. My sister also ordered the omelette Arnold Bennet as my mother has had the same on the previous occasion and it had been truly superb. The two could not be compared and my sister could not eat it. I would not describe it as an omelette. It was more of a tasteless and burnt Yorkshire pudding. I really would expect a chef to be able to rustle up an omelette. Surely that’s a basic cooking skill held by most people ?! A great great pity and I would think twice about returning or, if I do, I would stick to what my nephew had, a burger , as that seemed to be fine and surely a chef cannot go wrong with that. Or can they?!! What a shame as I had really been looking forward to the lunch given that the last occasion had been so good.

Was expecting more of this restaurant. It feels very formatted and the staff, whilst friendly, weren’t quite up to the mark. The food was ok but not exceptional and the waiting staff seemed unable to deal with any requests for anything not strictly on the menu.

Stopped in a couple weeks ago on Friday evening, most places were packed because of graduation and we were stopping by St. Andrews on the way to our lodging a little farther south to get a taste of the town before exploring further the next few days. We were happy to get in, had a great table with superb view of the Firth. It was not particularly busy and it just seemed like it took forever to order, get food and then had to track someone down so we could pay. Never had the feeling any one person was our server and took away from the experience a bit. Having said that, we were all tired from a long day driving and touring and maybe they just sensed that and were giving us a little space, lol. Again, food was excellent.

Just off the Old Course The Scores overlooking the sea, a gem of a hotel and restaurant await. The staff were charming and the facilities lovely! The graduation menu we had was amazing too. Fresh beautifully cooked food and a good wine selection.

Lovely views over the bay and the links in the distance. The menu was varied and good value. The staff coped quite well with 16 of us all together!

Had a brilliant afternoon tea here. The afternoon tea consisted of pastries served first then scones, cakes and candy floss.

We decided to go for afternoon tea, and so after trying to book at a number of venues in St Andrews that were unable to accommodate our late notice request, we were really pleased to find that the Hotel Du Vin were able to offer us a booking for afternoon tea for two, particularly at such short notice.
