Gaslamp in Aberdeen City

Popped in on the Saturday night after ariving. What a Great night was had on the karaoke tunes pumping bar crowd great staff and DJ more than welcoming. Well worth a visit during your stay. Pop in and guaranteed you will be pleasantly surprised.

Bad food, good service. Rather go to MC if you want a burger

The music was not to everyone taste. Staff very nice though.

Much too loud music from 7 p.m. DJ Taff can do everything from Nickelback to newer pop at incredible volume, just not good DJing and feeling for the audience. Oh... The audience: three tables with 3-4 people each, two people at the bar... If you count the staff, there are 15 people in the pub. And DJ Taff is providing sound at a festival... stupid!!! The staff is nice and friendly. You can safely forget the rest here!

New name Tipsy Cow. Unfortunately the DJ plays very loud and very bad music from 7 p.m. Therefore not recommended.

Good atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of drink, reasonably priced

Excellent value for money food, very cooperative and attentive staff and service. Very happy with the service our group received for a birthday party. Highly recommend if you are looking for something local in Aberdeen city center.

Dunno if I picked the wrong time but popped in for a quiet drink 6pm on Saturday and couldn't hear each other. Music absolutely blasting and only half a dozen people in. Pity, looked nice

Was a great evening. Food was amazing. The lady behind the bar was so lovely she made the evening. Considering she was all on her own serving drinks taking food orders and waiting on tables. What a worker you have. Excellent bar girl..

Stopped in for a pre dinner drink last week. The pub was quiet as it was midweek, but the place was absolutely spotless, the bar man was really friendly and efficient.

1st time in market Street pub for years. Nice calm relrelaxed pub.

Went in for the Karaoke night host DJ TAFF with Steven were on,what with good crowds having a fab time.Not forgetting to mention the very helpful staff members,so it was the most enjoyable night. AndyT.

The moronic staff in this pub are rude and offensive. Blatently racist. Worst place I've ever been. I would advise staying well away from it. I guess their broken down sign outside is a reflection of the service on the inside

Usé este lugar en numerosas ocasiones y no ha sido malo, aparte de hoy, entró en alrededor de 15. 30 por una bebida y algo de comida, nadie en total 2 personas que preparaban la comida, nadie detrás de la barra, esperaron 10 minutos, nada, se fueron a gastar mi dinero, volvieron una hora más tarde sin cerveza de barril debido a las líneas de limpieza, Conseguí una lata de cerveza a un precio exorbitante y un poco de comida mediocre no volverá a toda prisa, se irá cuesta abajo rápidamente.

GusLamp hmm it is hard for me to refresh the pub but when it comes to the restaurant itself is below the criticism of the total gutter! Words why! Mielwm there worker party, ordered at the manager because he served me chicken tika masala on which I waited until 32 minutes !!!! of course I asked the manager about the time I was responding with my order and I will be informed! After 32 minutes I asked him to cancel the order and return the money and he answered me for not doing it, he is the thief who gave me my money !!! do I recommend this pub hmmm definitely not !!!!

Wir fanden uns in dieser Bar ein da sie von außen relativ gut besucht schien. Von innen ist es eine typische britische Kneipe. Wir aßen ein paar Kleinigkeiten, die in Ordnung waren, mehr aber dann auch nicht. Die Cocktails waren definitiv nicht selbst gemacht und schmeckten auch nach nichts, für den Preis hätte ich da wirklich mehr gewartet. Die Bedienung war nett, aber auch alleine und schien deshalb leicht überfordert. Keine Bar, in die wir nochmal gehen würden.

Von der unfähigen Bedienung, die nicht wusste was ein IPA ist, über das miese Essen gab es wirklich nichts was mich jemals wieder in diesen Laden bringt

Not a lot of people know that this is the home of Pacos Tacos , fantastic Mexican street food on menu as well as homemade humongous burgers and other favourites a must !!

The food was excellent at a very reasonable price. The service was very friendly and efficient. :-) My girlfriend enjoyed fish and chips and I'd Chilli con carne which was delicious and very professionally presented. Thank you. :-)

Really nice pub to sit and chill in whilst having a burger etc. We popped in by here after shopping at union square. The owner is lovely as is the staff. We will be back in the future.

We really enjoyed this little place right across from the Douglas Hotel. Very good service by Munish the owner and the chilli con carne is great!

We were walking by on our shopping trip and popped in for a cheeky cocktail. At £3.50 a glass why not?! 4 white Russians later.... The proprietor was friendly-the food was cheap and cheerful. It seems to be a cross between a student bar and a local favourite. Very well stocked bar. Clean and the chilli was pleasant. £5.95 main meals and sharing platters for a few quid! No wonder it is popular. Slightly shabby but in a charming lived in way rather than a grubby unclean way. The 4 is more for the friendly welcome and service than the food but still-you go to these places like Frankie and bennies or chiquitos that sell this kind of food but at 3x the price.

we had a drink and a meal here during our weekend stay mainly because its right opposite the Aberdeen Douglas hotel where we were staying. The drink and meals are very reasonably priced and there is a good selection, im not saying that this bar is luxurious in anyway it is just basic, but if you want a few drinks and a chat with friends, and a decent bite to eat, without putting a hole in your wallet like some of the other restaurants and bars do in the area, then this is the place to pop into.

Food was okay 4 meals had and no complaints the service was good waitress was very attentive and of course the beer was good

My husband and I were visiting from canada and doing a bit of a pub hop. We ended up here and surprised we didn't get sick. Firstly my beer was sour! Returned it for a new one, which I got in the most disgusting dirty glass! Waited 45 min for food! My bacon Brie sandwich was one strip of fatty bacon with a tiny piece of cheese, I put my "salad" in it to make it a bit more appetizing. The washroom had no toilet paper and no soap! We will definitely not be returning.

Pasamos el sábado a mediodía viendo el fútbol. y encima no tenía Una combinación muy barato y agradable para dos en precio increíble. los niños comen gratis durante todo el día, todos los días, aunque no tuvimos ningún niños allí eran diners que lo hicieron.

We booked the gas lamp through a groupon deal for a 2 course meal for 2 with drink. My partner had the Thai broth soup of the day and said it was the best soup he had ever tasted, I had the chilli burger and it was great, home made. Defo recommend a visit

We had the combo starter for 2 then fish & chips. Really enjoyed both.. Helpfully & friendly staff. Would defiantly go back.

I was on a train journey south from Morayshire and I looked for a quick but tasty meal near the station while I waited for my next train. The Gaslamp provided it. I had a beef curry with salad. Both tasted fine and the salad was freshly made. I enjoyed the whole experience; I'd go back for another meal . . .

Quiet on a Tuesday night. Quick service. Fantastic prices! Paid 5.80 pounds for two pints. Nice atmosphere.

You might take a deep breath before entering this place. But because you want that that half price Groupon deal you will take the plunge. We checked this place out (peered thru window) before deciding whether to return to our hotel to get "dressed up". We didn't - this place needs some work, but you know what - the food was really not bad and our waitress was brilliant - very polite and attentive - (the one not wearing the bright leggings and matching top - who could have been good too but wasn't serving our table). All in all - whilst we probably won't go back, the owners really don't need to do much - even just turn down the lights a bit folks and take posters off windows - to make this place look a bit better. With that food and your best waitress - you have potential. For £16, I guess we have to make some allowances, but you run risk of damaging reputation if you don't spend some money on better decor.

we used the fajita groupon on a Saturday lunchtime which was given to us as a gift. On entering we could see hand written signs saying no card payments accepted, then noticed that we were the only 2 people dining (there were 2locals at the bar) The waitress quite clearly wasn't interested in us and gave more attention to watching the tv! Every table we went to sit at was either dirty on the table or on the chairs which we had to clean ourselves. While waiting on our food the dated music and old leftover Christmas decorations did nothing to raise the ambience of our experience. The toilets were in a terrible state, dirty, no toilet roll and a few out of order including the disabled toilet. The nachos arrived and looked disgusting as well as tasting disgusting (microwaved greasy cheese with shop bought squeeze salsa and sour cream) The chicken and beef fajitas were no better and were served with the same bottled sauces which tasted disgusting and the meat was very very dry. The cocktails were clearly out of a carton as we saw the waitress pouring them. No effort or even real cooking or cocktail making was put into this. I will never be back!

Needs a total overhaul, it was freezing, food and cocktails were terrible, could've put on a much better night spending £25 in Markies. Staff nice enough just not really interested in us. We all felt like we had had got the wrong place as it was worse than the cafe in Eastenders. Put it back to the way it was when it was Morgan's. The food and atmosphere was much better before. Sad to say this all but you need to know how bad it is. I'm embarrased to have given this voucher as a gift. Get in ramsays kitchen nightmares and get rid of the scary squirty creamy garlic imitation sour cream- yuk!!

not sure what all the people giving bad reviews where expecting, I also used a Groupon voucher and thought it was great value for the price. The cocktail wasn't fantastic but enjoyed the food, decent size portion & tasted good. Initially the waitress was going to turn us away as we arrived at 19:30 but when I said food was meant to be served until 20:00 and the chef gave us the nod we couldn't fault the service - it was pretty dead but it was a Wednesday. We will be back in the new year !.

Like a lot of the reviewers on here, I dined at 'the Gas Lamp' after buying a voucher on Groupon. Upon arriving we were asked if we had booked a table. This was around 5:30 in the evening and looking around the place was dead - there was only one other couple sitting there. The waitress informed me that we must come back another day as as tables must be booked. As expected I was gobsmacked - I don't think I've ever been turned away at a restaurant that clearly has seats free, and many of them in this case. After eventually allowing us take a table we were equally disappointed with the rest of the evening. The food was mediocre, not absolutely terrible but nothing special. Overall just a very uninviting establishment with equally unpleasant staff.As for the 5* reviews here - have a read of some of them, they're clearly fake. No-one in their right mind would rate this place higher than 2 stars. It's terrible.

Went to the gaslamp with a groupon voucher like Everyone else. I had a strawberry daquary. Personally thought it was a bit sour. The food was not so good. The sauces came from a squeezy bottle and they looked nasty. The nachos were hot but very bland and they should use homemade salsa and fresh sour cream, it's cheaper than their bottle stuff anyway and much nicer. We had the chicken and beef fajitas next. Again they had the same nasty squeezy sauces and the tortillas felt like they came from the micro, instead they should have steamed/ grilled them. The beef was a very poor cut and very chewy. Overall I wasn't very satisfied with food and I don't think I would come back.

After hearing the ad on the radio that this place had been refurbished and had a 'fantastic ' new menu, I decided to buy the voucher they had on offer . Well, there is certainally no refurbishment and as for the 'fantastic ' new menu......didn't look it!! It had the usual pub grub that was either frozen or just bought it. My pal and I had Scampi and it was nothing exciting. We started with Nachos though and they were good .The sticky toffee pudding was nicely presented but rather cloopy so it was left. The place isn't somewhere I would go to again and isn't at all how it's advertised . A great pub for a visit before a football match but that's it. I will say the service was great though and the waitresses were helpful and attentive. The best bit Of the visit I think.

Bought a Groupon. Should have drove past first. Like a few other posts below I wanted to walk out half way through the meal. I'm sorry but this isn't a restaurant, it is a dirty, run down public house. This is the worst place I have ever eaten in. Still trying to get over the experience.

Been in Gaslamp and as so many posts mention, the outside and the inside needs some work done because the way it is, it is not really that appealing. However, food was great and there is nothing negative at all to say about. We had a good time.

Bought a Groupon nachos/fajitas/cocktail deal and thoroughly enjoyed it.We went early on a Saturday evening and it wasn't very busy at all. We had a choice of tables and there was probably only about 8-10 other people in - not at all what I was expecting after reading other reviews. Our order was taken at the bar before we were seated and the server was really helpful and pleasant. We both ordered strawberry dacquiris and they were lovely and the food that was served was delicious and there was certainly plenty of it!The only thing I'd say as that the interior is in need of upgrading. The seats are a bit worn and the paintwork needs redone.Other than that, for what I paid, I really can't fault it.

I don't know what half the haters in here are in about. We went here last night for the groupon fajitas cocktail combo and it was great! It's no 5 star restaurant but they don't advertise it to be, its a bar!! We had a right laugh and the food was good.

My lovely husband bought this groupon as an additional valentines gift as he knew me & a girl friend were going into town shopping & would need a refuel at lunch! When we walked in, I was taken aback at what we were confronted with. It felt like a dingy local with a couple of booths for eating. We'd phoned to book but there would have been no need - the place was dead apart from some guys sitting at the bar. That said, the waitress was friendly enough and seated us. The food was good although it wasn't anything amazing. I've had better at places like Wildboar, Slains castle etc but it was satisfying enough. The cocktail seemed a bit cheap tasting, but i'm not a huge expert - i just know what I like. I try to be one to make the most of something but the atmosphere was weird, it would have been better if the place were done up & more appealing and a lot busier. Judging by the food I'd go back if i couldn't get anywhere else but based on the interior & atmosphere, I'll definitely stick to the pub grub around Belmont St. Sorry gaslamp!

I bought a groupon deal for this so called 'restaurant' the outside looking really shabby and the inside was even worse. Seats had Sellotape up to cover rips, the toilets were disgusting. Food was vile and my cocktail was like syrup. The whole experience was dreadful. I actually walked out halfway through my main as I couldn't bare sitting in the place any longer. Waste of money!!!!!!!

Despite the appearance of both the outside and inside, the food was of good quality and portions were generous. Service was excellent. However, I would not class this as a restaurant, it's a bar with a seating area for meals. I bought a Groupon deal so only paid £18 for two courses for two people with cocktails. The cocktails were fabulous. I had a Black Russian and my husband had the Straberry Woo Woo. A good time was had by all.

We visited the Gaslamp on a Groupon. Not knowing Aberdeen we had no idea of the locality or any of the eateries so upon arrival we were a little taken aback as we were expecting a restaurant and not a public bar with an eating area. The interior was pretty untidy and tired and the clientele was very loud. That said the attentive staff and excellent food more than made up for our disappointment at the environment.

I bought a groupon and then I read the reviews on here so admittedly my expectations were low. I tried to phone the place to make a reservation and never got through and tried for two day. Kept getting mailbox full message. So i just turned up on the day and they were accommodating. The place does need refurbishment but it was clean. The young lady behind the bar made some lovely strawberry woo woos for me and my mate. The meals were promptly delivered and the chicken wings were gorgeous. the best bit for me was the burger. I am a burger fiend and i always order the burger and it's the best one I've had in Aberdeen. It was gorgeous, loved that they don't use some tasteless cheese in their burger but a full flavoured one and they give you plenty of it. I will definitely be going back.

Not sure what people expectyou can get a great deal on groupon for 2 courses and a cocktail for 2 people for £18what you get is good quality food it is not a michelin resturant but what do you expect for £18the only issue i can see is that, it is a busy bar and i can see it would get noisey and a bit rowdy later at night

Amazing city centre location and kids friendly bar, went in there with my 2 years old daughter for meal, staff was very friendly and they listened to the every request I had and treated us well...will definitely be back and recommend to everybody with kids...great place for quick munch!!!

Having just read the two most recent positive reviews I actually wouldn't be surprised if the owner had some involvement in this. My partner and I ate here recently on yes a groupon deal. We are not naïve enough to expect Michelin standards but basic cleanliness and edible food yes. The first table we sat at was sticky and dirty so was the second one and third. We gave up hope of finding a clean one at this point.Salt and peppers sticky with God knows what. Our deal was for two courses and cocktails. Mushrooms were the frozen fayre and pretty tasteless. We felt rushed through the meal to order our cocktails even though there were only one other couple eating. For mains I had the mixed grill and my partner the surf and turf. We also were not asked how we wanted our steak cooked.The food arrived no garnish or veg and looked most unappetizing. I had a bite out of each item and left the rest. It was disgusting as was my partners. When the waitress came over I pointed out my complaints after making many petty excuses I asked to speak to the manager/owner.Again he took no responsibility for our awful experience. On leaving a table of three were waiting to order and I went over to let them know how bad it had been I looked up to find the manager demanding to know why I was speaking to them. I actually felt quite threatened by his manner towards me. I will be notifying Groupon of this experience and urge them not to promote this establishment again. So after reading this you still decide to go you have been warned. The place should be shut down!!!!!

Went in there for food with my friend had a lovely meal, service was very good and dont putboff by the couoke of comments down there as it seems like these people are buying Groupon deals and expect Michelin star service from a pub, yes its a pub not a restsurent and when you go in there expect great pub food not some fsncy restsurent stuff with cheap Groupon deals....will be back!!!!!

Been there before and went in there again for food with friends as we had an amazing food couple of months ago and we had the same experience again, great pub grub and nice friendly service! Recommend it to everybody, friends or family great place for food :) thanks for amazing food gaslamp!

The waitress was really nice and that's the only good thing to say!! Food was poor, place was cold and dirty and would never go back.

We went with a groupon voucher. The barman-waiter was friendly and surrounding not overly shabby. Our free "cocktail"; a strange mixture of vimto, ribena and sweat. Starters; The spicy chicken wings and mushroom in garlic sauce tasted as if they were from an Tesco bag and poorly reheated leaving the deepfried crusting rockhard. Not very appetising, then ruined further when haphazardly doused in their respective cheap and sickening sauces. Mains; Steak ciabatta and surf and turf; undercooked chips, we wern't asked how we'd like our steaks so they just overcooked them, rock hard deepfried onion rings and scampi and ciabatta they hadn't thawed out properly before serving with one steak. Not a pleasant eating experience and I had a bad taste in my mouth as I walked home. I could have a drink in there and the How I Met Your Mother with subtitles! did distract me a little from the food. I still will not eat there again however.

Food was delicious but the waiting time between courses was Long due to one staff member for bar and service, decor in need of repair, note broken heater guard right to next to the table, condiments were in need of a wipe and toilets dirty. Drinks were reasonable very good and the staff were friendly however short staff and hygiene to be noted

I decided to go to the Gas Lamp one evening with a few of my esteemed acquaintances. We decided to go for the full Gas Lamp experience. We came into the bar and was greeted by a young lady who clearly has a sense in fashion only seconded to Gok Wan. She was supported behind the bar by the fellow who owns the place. Munch/ie/er I think his name is. A well heeled and intelligent person. The food we ordered arrive promptly, hot and delicious but I wouldn't order the MINCE tho, heard some bad reviews about it whilst I was in. I had a few game of darts with friendly and clearly very talented local gentlemen. I also played the quiz machine with plenty people willing to offer their views on the correct answer. The drinks were cheap for town centre and plenty of choice of which I sampled many. It wont be long before I return. -SB

Cosy, comfy little bar. The food was excellent. The service was great and so attentive. I don't know what judgemental eyes thought bad of the girl behind the bar as she was so friendly to us and everyone else there. Nice little place for a drink and some food.

Just had a bowl of chips and cheese and got to say the were the best chips ive ever had!Service was brilliant! 2 bar staff Girl with Crazy hair and a Blonde guy came in abit later. We got such a laugh with these guys! Very good banter. Would deffo recommend! Comments on here are are rubbish! Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the place. Its a very comfortable place. Went in for a few drinks on a night out, what can only turn out to be a nightmarish experience, For a start it was full of drunks, 1 bar staff member, and the boss, who seems to just sit in front of a computer playing music through the speakers, my partner who at the time was recovering with a broken arm needed the toilet, only to discover the disabled toilet a wreck,, to top it off, there's no security on the door, we were very intimidated by a group of men, who seemed to take charge of the bar, we left promptly!!!! Such a pity, it's in a nice spot, has potential, but who ever is in charge must just see pound signs, we won't be back!

The only good thing I can say about is the chef! Brilliant at what he does and it's a crying shame he's wasting his talent there. Upon walking in there was a very strange smell. Got to the bar finally after having to practically tear my shoes from the floor (it was that sticky) to be greeted by a barmaid that acted like it was such a chore taking our drinks order. Sat down with our drinks and ordered (eventually) it took an age to take our order. Our food was brought over by who I think was the manager and looked lovely, however we soon lost our appetites from the over powering smell of body odour. I can only assume he lives there as he looked like he had just woke up. Mid meal I made the mistake of visiting the restroom which completely put me off the rest of the meal and we just needed to leave. They were dirty, smelly, the lights were hanging off the celing and bin overflowing. Of all the places we went to in Aberdeen this was by far the worst!!

One of the best places to eat on market street and around. Close to railway and bus station so just got of the bus and went in their for food with my girlfriend. Barstaff was very welcoming people were having fajitas and we loved the smell of it so we ordered fajitas as well. By far one of the best fajitas we ever had. Will definitely go back and recommend to everybody else...:)

I must say that some of the comments on here are rough at best and unfair...The food and quality are excellent. What more can anyone expect for a city centre bar / restaurant??? If you want Silver Service, go to The Ritz.The prices of the exceptional good food are quality for the same reasons as above.Overall, very pleasing!!!

I tried calling numerous times to book a table but nobody ever answered the phone. I eventually left a message asking someone to call me back but nobody did. I finally tried googling the restaraunt to see if I had the correct number. I came across the reviews here (especially the one by nat s) and decided to throw my Groupon voucher in the bin, write off the money I had spent on it and consider myself lucky that I didn't bother to go! It's now 2 days since I left the phone message and I'm still waiting for a call-back.

Dirty, sticky tables, awful service - not a smile, not a welcoming look or word from the waitress who was happily chatting with a bar tender with her back turned to us. We were never offered us a menu or anything extra than what the voucher had. The nachos were average, while the fajitas were really bad. We chose shrimp as filling which was the tiniest I've ever seen, completely buried in oil and overcooked. No cheese, no vegetables or salad... But "the highlight" of the evening was the visit to the pub's toilet which was in a state beyond my comprehension. To call it dirty is to say nothing! We were absolutely disgusted with the overall experience. This is the worst dinner I've ever had in my life!

Many choices of drinks, delicious mexican and british food. Fajitas is a must-try. However, the place needs some tidying up. Very good place to get some food and drinks with friends and family.

We had a groupon voucher for fajitas and turned up at the Gaslamp without a booking. The man behind the bar was helpful and friendly. Our order was taken promptly and the fajitas were the best we have had in a long time. The only fault was that the place could do with a good clean and a decor revamp. In all honesty had I been there for beers it would have been fine but sticky floors are not great where you are eating. Really can't complain about the deal though!
