Hi as I can't get through to reception, can you tell me if the hotel is still housing over 100 illegal immigrants or is it now open to the honest paying public?

This place was always number one for real ales, probably eight on the hand pumps, some the usual suspects and add a few interesting guests. Not so now. You'll get five and maybe six but its the same stuff week in and week out and I am afraid the charm has gone from this place. Added to that is the fact that if there is a 'private party' in the main part of the lounge bar as there very often is (but booked the whole private part of the lounge yet only occupying a part) then space becomes limited. I attended at the back of five on a sunday evening and the gate leading down to the bar was locked so there you go - nothing going. Does the owner know his bar is closed at 5pm on a Sunday? I think this place has gone downhill.

We ordered starters which were just ok for the price paid. Our main meals were very poor and one had to be returned as they ordered fajitas but when the dish came it was more like a curry and the only two sauces accompanied the dish. The wraps were also cold. She then ordered fish and chips and the fish sat on top of a large helping of chips which made it hard to cut the fish. The presentation of all our main meals were terrible and would not recommend eating there.

Had a Christmas Lunch with friends yesterday. We went to Carriages last year and it couldnt be faulted. Excellent food and staff. This year the food was pretty good, the manager was his usual jovial self but cant say the same about, what appeared to be, head waitress. Dont know where her Christmas spirit was. Maybe still waiting for it to be delivered!! We did get asked about a drink on arrival and had to ask for wine for the table as she didnt remember to ask. Not once did she come over to the table and ask if everything was alright or ask if we enjoyed our meal when we had finished. Three of us got cold coffee and the othesr had to ask for theirs. Ours was cold for some reason. Surely getting coffee shouldnt have been too difficult. Also beside us in the restaurant there was a table with another four ladies so no atmosphere whatsoever. Afraid we wont be back next year.

The Brentwood Hotel is situated in Crown Street a short walk from Aberdeen's Union Street. I muset admit that I visit the Carraiges on a regular basis, not only do they serve excellent food but the bar serves a impressive array of beers. The bar and restaurant are situated in the basement and is tastefully decorated (or at least I think so) and the bar and restaurant staff are always very polite, friendly and helpful. On my most recent visit the place was extremely busy (it was a Friday), I was met at the door by the head barman and was found a place at the bar, my friend and I shown to our table in the restaurant by our server given menus and informed of the soup of the day.We both ordered Roast Pork with Black Pudding, our meals were came with plenty of fresh vegetables new potatoes and chips, the pork was succulent, very tasty and more than enough for a hearty appetite so much so that we struggled to eat the veg.For dessert my companion had fruit cheese cake and I had my usual ice cream, my friend assured me that his cheese cake was delicious and of course we finished with coffee and as usual the service was excellent. One of the reasons I keep going back to Carraiges is I have yet to be disappointed, always good food, excellent service and nice surroundings.

Have been to the Brentwood many times in the past but not recently so checked out the reviews before we met up with friends...Was surprised how negative some of the comments were but having now been there I have to agree with the review made by Loobyloo in December....we were a little bit disappointed with the food to say the least. It didn't somehow cut the mustard and certainly didn't justify the cost. Our Cullen Skink soup was delicious but was served barely warm and it had to be returned. The special was "Haddock Goujons" which looked like the sort of meal you would put in front of your child any night of the week. The Chicken Curry was acceptable, just... but not worth the £13.00. Our friends had the pasta with mushrooms which also seemed over priced at £13.00.You can go to a restaurant like "The Stage Door" who are offering food at the same prices but are worlds apart.Staff were very friendly and looked after us very well. It's a small cosy restaurant and the decor is nice. However, couldn't help thinking that the Brentwood is trying to deliver but not quite getting there and it's Trip Advisor rating with regard to Aberdeen Hotels is probably justified.

My husband and I decided we would have our tea out as we were going to a concert. We plumped for the Brentwood as we had been there before for my son's 21st birthday and been impressed by the menu. I had also checked the sample menu online. It also says it changes every week. The service was excellent. It has also recently been done up. So pity the menu wasn't. I was expecting to get something different, maybe duck or monkfish, something just a bit out of the ordinary as every place in Aberdeen seems to have the same menu. I landed up with the gammon as it was the only 'different' thing on the main course. My husband plumped for one of the specials - haddock. Since when was battered haddock a special. What I had was lovely, plentiful gammon, lovely chips and vegetables done just right. I just wish there had been something more to choose. We live on the edge of Deeside where we have bountiful choice of fresh produce. Venison, pheasant, etc. So why was there nothing like this on the menu. On the sample online, on of the starters was pheasant supreme with cranberry mash. How lovely that would have been as a main. One of the courses was mushrooms and pasta in a cream sauce at the princely price of £13. Very much a profit making dish!!! Also scampi was about same price. If it was homemade fine, but it didn't say so, presuming then it was out of a packet. Pretty expensive packet. The waitress who was very friendly also had very poor English so found it very difficult to tell us what the specials actually were Out of 10 - 6. Sorry Louise and Dave, Aberdeen.

A lovely comfortable restaurant with a cosy old fashioned atmosphere. The food has always been top notch and our recent experience was no different. It tends to be a little more expensive than some other town centre eateries but the quality is evident. The menu consists of some pub classics like scampi and lasagne but there is some dishes that are a bit different from the norm like monkfish, duck and belly of pork with accompanying saucesThe bar and restaurant are separated but you can eat in either and although we chose to dine in the restaurant the bar is equally appealing. We certainly won't be so slow in returning here in future.
