Boxcar Coffee & Yard in Aberdeen City

Not quite sure what the 5 star reviews are about. This didn't look like any of the photos. 'Herb garden' is full of weeds, the food selection was limited, the cheese 'quesadilla' was like a kids snack. It was close to awful. Can't comment on the treats. They've got a great spot on the old railway line, convenient if you are walking/cycling but got the prices I would keep cycling and go to the great place in banchory. Better quality and options, and you get to sit inside.

Great place to stop and have a coffee and a bite to eat while walking or cycling along the Deeside Way.

Myself and my partner stopped by to grab a couple of toasties on our way along the railway track. We have had good experiences here in the past but unfortunately on this visit we found the service to be really disappointing. The wait time was very long despite there being few customers and two staff members. The manner displayed by the staff was also not at all welcoming. My partner received her toastie and it was another 15 minutes before I received mine, due to one of the staff members forgetting to hand me mine at the same time (this wasn’t explained to me, but I watched it unfold as the two staff members had a disagreement about it). I appreciate that mistakes happen, however the poor service before this as well as a lack of apology for the wait makes me reluctant to return in the future.

I normally love the box car. It’s in a lovely location and the food is normally great. Unfortunately I have had a couple of experiences lately where the service is just poor. Even when not busy is it too hard to expect the servers to acknowledge the customer? (me in this instance). There were only 2 other people in front of me (it was quiet) - they were served and yet I wasn’t even acknowledged until half way through making their coffees. Then she walked off - to look for eggs, still not taking my order. I left. All I wanted was a coffee and a bacon roll. I was just a bit disappointed.

Coffee was very good, almond croissant is excellent! Lovely stop along the old Deeside railway.

Quite a spot off the run track, as you could do a stop for coffee after having a run. Service was okay, though environment aint comfy as we had to sit in the cold whist having coffee. Heads up - affordable hot food but seats are outside if you fancy 😜

Loved our stop here as we walked along the railway line. Shared malteser tiffin bar, and still had some left when we were done! Water was nice and cold and the kids working there were very polite and helpful.

very good and would go again, i wish they had more staff so taht they could prdouce food quicker, but it was still amazing

Visited boxcar after admiring the menu one day as I passed. Lots of variety on the menu and I love the location and seating area. Unfortunately the male staff member that was working made us feel like we were inconveniencing his day. We both ordered breakfast rolls, and my partner asked for ketchup on his. They accidentally put hot sauce on it which my partner realised on biting in to it. We are all human and everyone makes mistakes but he was unable to eat it so went up to the desk to ask for a replacement. He was ignored for the first few minutes and then eventually after he explained the guy said "it's because they look the same. They are both red". No apology. He did replace the breakfast roll for him but his customer service skills seem to be lacking. A smile and basic manners goes a long way.

I want to love this place. The location is idyllic and convenient for us. I've had some great experiences here and met some lovely other patrons. Some members of staff are courteous and seem trained in hospitality. The but is coming.... A couple of times I have been here and been met with surly, unprofessional and downright rude service. Even when met with a smile and friendly attitude, this one member of staff is condescending and rude. She should not speak to customers the way she does. I recently visited with my family and encountered some safety concerns. Not only was this member of staff not helpful, she spoke to me with derision and condescension in her tone. I'm actually disgusted with attitude I encountered on my visit here. I would give one star, but the location is so beautiful and the food and coffee are fairly pleasant. I hope the owner sees this and reflects on their employment choices, as this member in staff will damage their business and poison the other members of staff.

Best place to stop for a coffee!

Perfect for an outdoor cuppa and scone or hot food. Handy to walk from.Cults or easy access from old railway line for cyclists.

Used to be great. Today no scones and very little cake choice. Staff not the usual frienly folks.

Amazing coffee, first time having a dirty chai latte and it was made so well. Creamy and not burnt. Outside seating is nice, but I think they should have a bar you can rest your feet on the seats. Just as they are quite high up. Even for me and I’m 6ft haha. All in all comfy and great on a sunny day.

Nice place, good service, well placed for walking or cycling along the old Deeside railway.

We stopped by for a coffee and a hot chocolate last year on a cycle trip. The drinks were tasty, and the service was friendly. The trailer is very conveniently placed next to the old Deeside way, so folk can just walk in. The benches provided were nice enough, but I didn’t see any larger sort of shelter to sit in, so I assume the service is meant to be mainly take-away. Would happily return.

Dog friendly. Outdoor seating. Delicious bacon rolls. Dairy-free milk options for coffee. I go at least once a fortnight.

Rude staff and mass produced food. Have recently moved to the area. Looked good but very rude staff. Was hoping for some home cooked snacks but no all mass produced and expensive for what they were. Won’t be returning

Been following these guys on socials since they first launched and had been eager to get out and try. Great location for folk wandering out the railway line. Huge menu and selection of cakes but was disappointed that the items I kept choosing were out of stock on that day - could be an idea to inform customers before they make a choice or score off the menu as they sell out. Great seating area but sadly they were completely soaked, despite this we were really keen to sit and eat our food and hoped 1 of 3 young team members would’ve helped us dry them off since the rain had been off for a few hours by this point. Will definitely try again as it’s got great potential just a bit disappointing for a first go.

Fantastic little coffee shop on the Deeside Railway line walk at Cults Station. Just the right place for a sit down and a coffee and a piece.

I have been to Boxcar for many times. I really like where it’s located and a place is cute. However, cakes are not the best. Neither fresh nor tasty. Milkshake was very bad :(( The place would be awesome if they had good desserts, maybe less variety but everything should be fresh and tasty

This new kid on the block is doing everything right.

Found this place by accident walking down theold Deeside railway line. We had 2 coffees and a sweet and sat outside.

Great tasting coffee & tray bakes that even Chris Bonnington would struggle to conker! HUGE!

What a great place, lovely food.

Whether you are walking, running, cycling or passing by, this is the perfect location for great food, hot drinks and yummy treats. Dog Friendly and a great space in general. Will be a regular stop for my walks and cycle's.

Really good coffee, and excellent bacon butty! Didn't have room for any of the sweet stuff on display, but an impressive looking selection. Very pretty set up with outdoor seating and plants. Great spot for dog walkers.

A wonderful place to meet friends, walk the dog (right by the railway line) and have very good coffee. And a good selection of food as well, from cakes (I can recommend the almond croissants)to the best breakfast burritos. Outdoor seating in very pleasant surroundings. A brilliant addition to Cafe options in Aberdeen and Cults

Good selection of food and drinks, what we had (bacon rolls, muffins and billionaires shortbread) was very tasty, everything available looked good. Pleasant service and a very handy location, more places like this along deeside way or anywhere even would be great. Will be back soon. Still good! And still good again July 2022

Great coffee and some affy fine tablet

Discovered this business on a walk along the Deeside Way on a hot sunny day. Milkshakes and a giant strawberry tart were yummy. Good to see a local business producing high quality fare and filling a gap in the market. Will definitely be back.

Great location if walking/cycling between Duthie Park and Culter on the Deeside line for a Brunch snack along with a fine treat and tasty coffee to go with 😋 only discovered it recently and now been 3 times in 2 weeks

Great coffee and a lovely selection of cakes etc. Really liked the "Breakfast Burrito". Perfectly positioned to capture the traffic of walkers/cyclists on the Deeside Way.

We stopped here while on a cycle ride from Cove, was a well deserved coffee and egg butty! Nice on a sunny day.

Lovely coffee and cake stop on the old railway line in Cults

You can't really expect anything more from this coffee shop. Decent coffee, usual tray bakes, muffins, etc which are very big! It's very popular but find some of the staff could be a bit more engaging with customers and smile a bit more...... Only some.

Had a lovely coffee after our walk today at the boxcar. They serve really good coffee and are great for gluten free. Highly recommended.

Lovely bacon rolls and Chai latte

Excellent pop-up style coffee stop located on the Deeside railway line walk at the former Cults station. Perfect for walkers for a grab and go coffee and snack without having to go into a shop (so great for dog walkers) or up to the main road. Good quality Americano and friendly service!

Great place for drinks and food

Stopped in past here when out walking our wee dog on a snowy morning. Not the cheapest for a light snack but quality and service was excellent. We had two coffees, two cakes a roll with sausage and egg and roll with bacon and egg. Total was just over £21.00 but it was all very tasty, good quality and we felt good value. We will definitely be back soon.

This place is on a great location right on the old railway line the kids and i couldn't resist to stop, all the food items looked amazing and Ian made a superb pulled pork burger for me, reason for 3 stars is lack of seating, really needs some benches but im told its in the works.

We found Boxcar Cafe by chance while on a walk using the old Deeside railway line. We saw the queue of customers, some on foot and other had arrived by car so saw it was popular. I'm glad we waited for our two lattes and a slice of Nutella brownie, it made the walk back to Aberdeen all the better.

Boxcar coffee and yard absolutely amazing! Good customer service with all the staff there! Even Ian the Main man there 😀 The food , WOW 🤩 I choose the Chicken Tikka wrap and toasted well, It was very delicious and well worth the money !!! I would HIGHLY recommend them and their Yummy food! Really a friendly place where even kids are treated with a "feel right at home" feeling. Will definitely return here again. We tried their ice, cake, muffin, panini's and dirty chai. Everything was delicious. 😋👍
