Woman that works there spends more time outside smoking than in the shop working , enough to put you off your grub before you enter the shop

Cannot fault this lovely venue! Really enjoyed the amazing food, served promptly and simultaneously considering there was 10 of us! Would definitely recommend. The light bite was more than enough and very reasonable priced. Staff lovely. Thank you. X

Decided to grab a bite to eat while in the market . My wife had corned beef pie chips n peas . The pie had very little corned beef in it .the peas where overcooked and discoloured.Myself had ham egg n chips .The ham was from a packet .very thin what I would call plastic ham .. egg was great nice n runny .the chips left a lot to be desired for ,not that special ...should have really sent the food back .... but will say that the food on the counter looked really nice. Will we eat in that particular car again .Nope not again ..very disappointing

We took the family here for Sunday lunch after hearing mixed reviews (mainly negative reviews on appearance rather than service or food) Personally we could have overlooked the dated decor and slightly slow service had the food been better. However unfortunately the food was very salty and vegetables were slightly overcooked. Meat was tasty and Yorkshire puddings were large and crisp on the outside, exactly as we like them. Overall an okay experience, which could be made so much better with a little bit of extra attention to detail. We would return and try it again.

Looks like an old fashioned pub with lots of wood and fabric but deceptively large once inside. Plays sport events in early afternoon but tends to start playing music later on. Music is varied but does have a strong rock/metal focus. A couple of pool tables are available which get plenty of use. The crowd is pretty diverse, and depends on the day but a lot of older people mix with younger patrons although the later it gets the fewer old people are present. It has a good range of drinks and a reasonable menu of your looking for food. Atmosphere is generally friendly and security staff are normally present at busy times. There's a small smoking area outside as well as a few tables for when it's not raining. Whenever I'm in Cardiff city centre and need somewhere relaxed to kill a couple of hours this is invariably where I end up. Jukebox is very good, and it's very friendly to just pop in for a couple on your own which after the last couple of years isn't a given. I recommended the queen's vaults a few years back and can only recommend even more now. Rating updated as appropriate 😀 Generally pop in before any city center gigs and still thoroughly recommend it. A few years on from my initial review, it's much the same and I mean that in a good way. Still my go-to pub for when I want to relax, but still feel the vibe of the city. Pre-gig, get together with friends, or just a quick pint on the way home from work. Always delivers.

On Saturday 7th December during the early hours the storm knocked out our electric and trees had come down around us and it was getting extremely cold due to house needing electric for the heating. We were stuck and had two mini dachshunds, who are extremely well behaved. After an hour of phoning round hotels for help on and off the island, I eventually messaged the valley hotel. Rob the manager got back to me very quickly, advising me they only had one room left and it was his most expensive because they had Xmas party on. I explained my situation and my medical problems, as I would need late check out. Well not only did Rob do us an amazing deal on the room, he looked after us even when he found out we would be arriving twenty minutes after his kitchen closed, he said he would ask the kitchen team to wait till we arrived so we could get hot food. The room was really comfortable and the bathroom was stunning. Beds really comfortable and we could hardly hear the disco downstairs, trust me anyone that has dachshunds knows any noise they go mad. Yet both mine got in the room curled up and went to sleep. His team are all extremely helpful and go above and beyond from offering to get our bags and help to the room. Even at breakfast a young man informed me where to get tea and coffee and it was a struggle for me, so he kindly asked what I’d like and went and got it for me. Rob thank you from all of us for everything you did to help us and thank your team from us all please. Highly recommend anyone wanting really nice Sunday dinner or a meal to even a good party and somewhere nice and comfortable to stay. Please give Rob and his team a call.
