The Old Inn in Swansea

My local, always a great welcome and food is good and always hot. The atmosphere is usually relaxed there even if quite full. Good car park at rear near to the back entrance into the pub.

The staff here are normally excellent, the venue excellent and the food superb. ONE MASSIVE PROBLEM on this visit! MY MEAL WAS taken away before I had finished it. I ONLY popped to the bar to order drinks and ask if some of my meat could be 'wrapped' for take away, I HAD NOT finished my meal!!!!! They did not resolve this when I initially complained, and I went away still hungry, so wrote this review!. This HAS SINCE BEEN EXPLAINED & RESOLVED. I spoke to the owner of the Old Inn and the manager, and they were very busy at the time and new staff were being trained. I have since re-visited and had a free meal for my trouble, which was fair and a good gesture by the Old Inn owner/management. The service on this ocassion was superb (as usual)! The Gentleman running things on the day (I think was the duty manager) was simply amazing, friendly and very professional! I will be returning. This pub and the Bryncoch Inn firmly remain as 2 of my favourite eatery pubs in the Swansea & Neath area.

Pre-booked the Festive menu for a family meal having enjoyed in previous years. Food was served in a timely manner with everyone receiving the correct orders. Starters were a generous size and all of the food was cooked well and was hot. Mains came a short while after and there was plenty of food to go around. Turkey meat was really tasty and roast potatoes were delicious. Nice accompaniments of stuffing, parsnips and pigs in blankets. The veg was all cooked beautifully and plenty of gravy. Everyone enjoyed their mains! Desserts were really good too. Overall, another fab set festive meal this year. Already looking forward to coming back next year.

Had a cracking Sunday lunch here! Cooked to perfection and loved the Yorkshire puddings! The pub was feeling really festive too with amazing decorations up, the kids absolutely loved it!

Been a while since my last visit. Pleasantly surprised, great menu, great service. Will definitely be back.

Always a warm welcome by staff in the old inn earlier today. We had a family meal and drinks which we all enjoyed, well recommended.

Called in on a Monday for pie night. Enjoyed the pie, but was very surprised by the price of alcohol. They are charging not far off London prices. They probably think they can charge such high prices as there is no other pub nearby.

There were 4 of us and we all had different meals which were all excellent, we will definitely go back again. The staff were lovely and friendly.

Just dropped in because our group is starving and we thought “awwww wicked a pub and hey look at all those tables free!” We were waiting to be seen for at least 5 minutes and several staff members walked past us. we were turned away pretty quickly when one of our group went to bar to ask. He said they are fully booked. We thought they were joking. Felt like the establishment didn’t want the business. Wont be returning

Friendly staff and good service. Food was nice and priced ok. Alcohol prices are on the expensive side.

I casually popped in with my friend last night around 18:30 for a quick snack and a drink. She spoke to the staff at the bar, but got turned away as was told it’s “fully booked”. I couldn’t believe my ears, so I spoke to the barman myself - and heard the same thing. We left, despite the place being nearly empty (there was literally only a couple of people inside). Disappointing. Judging by other reviews, there’s an issue with the kitchen? P.S. Greetings to the Mr. Barman who was hot & handsome, I couldn’t even articulate my words properly 😻😻😻

Quiero agradecer al personal que trabajó el domingo 27 de octubre. Eran muy cálidos, amables y eficientes. La comida era excelente para los 10 de nosotros, especialmente la estaca increíble y el pastel de cerveza. Recomendaría reservar una mesa en este pub. Para nosotros, aunque podría ser más tranquilo, la calidad de la comida (y el aparcamiento) era mejor que en el Buck en Pontlliw.

Gran ambiente, personal muy amable y comida encantadora. Nos cuidaron muy bien. Definitivamente volveré de nuevo

We were warmly greeted by the landlady and placed our food and drinks order. The food arrived quickly and was excellent ( cowboy burgers and lasagne). The portions were generous and the food well presented. The waitress checked on us mid way through our meal. All the staff were attentive and friendly. We would thoroughly recommend this pub to anybody looking for pub food in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Waiting staff managed by someone who sat there and barked orders to them. The waiting staff themselves did all the normal stuff fine but was spoilt by whoever the manager was.

The best thing about this place was the young man who worked behind the bar who was friendly and helpful but other than that I definitely won't be back. The food was either over cooked like an old boot or hard and undercooked and it took nearly an hour to come out even though there was hardly anyone there ( that should have told me).

5* for The Old Inn - Family friendly venue which has something for everyone. Jenna and her team are always very accommodating and service is brilliant. Highly recommend their weekly quiz which is our favourite night of the week but do book in advance to secure your spot!

Can you please explain to me why you have to book a table to have a drink in a pub. My friend and I were asked if we had booked a table. We obviously hadn't we just decided to pop in for a drink. We managed to get a table but we were told that we could only have it for a few hours. What baffled my friend and I was that whilst we were seated drinking our drinks, the place wasn't full and a few people at a time during our stay were coming in and not asked if they had booked a table, and were served at the bar.

We come every Thursday for the weekly pub quiz with friends. The Old Inn has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and although we return every week for the quiz, it's the community feel that keeps us coming back. We have also eaten food here a couple of times pre quiz, the burgers are great! Thank you Jenna and the team!

Walked into an empty pub, when we asked for a table there was lots of huffing and puffing from the lady, and told food would "be ages" because of repairs in the kitchen. Felt like they didn't want us in the pub. Thankfully after they found us a seat and we started buying drinks their attitude greatly improved and were positively wonderful to us. Unfortunately the food was overcooked and the halloumi and red pepper baguette was almost impossible to eat due to how toasted the baguette was. Great if you're just after drinks, food was not worth it though

Horrendous! The place was quiet, 3 meals ordered, first one was brought out 45 mins later then the other two came out 40 mins after the first one, and both meals were left hardly touched, soggy chips, cold scampi and undercooked, steak ordered medium and was cremated. Then someone came into the restaurant with a dog and sat next to us! Don’t waste your time

Food was delicious and hot,nothing was to much trouble great service

The Old Inn seems to have gone downhill since our last visit. We ordered a sirloin each but it was nowhere near as nice as our last visit. There was a musty smell and there seemed to be problems with electrics in the toilets area. There was also a smell coming from the drains as you entered the premises. We think the central heating would make a big difference.

We walked in through the entrance and were shouted at from the bar by the manager “have you booked a table”. We hadn’t booked, we wanted a meal and drinks. On replying no, we eere told “you should have booked a table for the quiz” There were only a few tables of guests in the whole pub. We immediately left, I have never been spoken to with such arrogance and disrespect in a public bar or restaurant. We visited just over a week ago, late afternoon following the scattering of my partners mothers ashes, we were treated with the same attitude, and asked if we’d booked a table… There was 1 table being used!! Shocking attitude and lack of respect, not sure who the manager and staff think they are?

What an absolutely joke. Tried to order food at 7pm pm a Monday evening and kitchen closed due to no chef. Beer was served completely flat and without head. At all cost avoid this place and save your money on a decent reputable take away that have chefs to cook for you.

The young lady who served me was fantastic unfortunately didn't get her name but was chatting about simular interest about f1 she was kind and caring she really put the customer first and was amazing at her job, too the old Inn you've got an amazing worker, working for you really made me feel welcomed. We come here every week for “Jenna’s quiz”, the atmosphere here is fantastic and very welcoming. The food and drink is on point and we thoroughly enjoy our time here every week. The staff work hard and cannot do enough for you and it doesn’t go unnoticed, thanks all. X

Went for a quick lunch with family, staff were friendly we were able to take the dog and staff were accommodating with this. Food was lovely the biggest fish and chips we had seen. Would recommend

Food not very good. My husband had the Chicken & Mushroom Pie. Pastry was raw. Gravy was watery Bisto disgusting. The only thing edible was the chips. I had Lasagna, didn’t need a knife and fork to eat it. Needed a spoon to eat it. Would never go there again

Excellent service and lovely food.

Had a lovely meal, only managed mains my wife had steak & I had a pie and garlic bread side. We saw some great looking desserts arrive at other tables but we were too full, maybe next time. The pub was quite busy, but there were enough staff and all were busy & efficient. There was a friendly atmosphere and lots of locals, we will be returning soon.

Decided to go for lunch, food was amazing we really enjoyed! Staff were very polite and forthcoming Jenna and Becca!! Will be back again soon.

Dreadful welcome each time I’ve been. We won’t be returning as it’s happened too often to be a fluke. Every time we’re told that the meals will take at least an hour when there was hardly anyone there almost like it’s too much trouble for them. We asked for the 30% off main meal discount which they forgot to apply and when we realised it hadn’t been given and questioned it we were told it was too late to put it right. The food would have been niceifit had even hot or even warm. All in all we’ll never go back there because it’s the same attitude every time we go! What a shame as the pup itself is quite nice. Someone needs to speak to the staff from the owner down to the bar staff. So unfriendly and don’t like being challenged when things go wrong! Seems like everything is too much trouble!

Two consecutive nights went here, first night was good and was made welcome, second night greeted by manager who once heard our English accent completely changed her attitude towards us, pointing out only table we could have as they were busy (could clearly see at least 10 other empty tables, which we're still empty when we left) It was steak night, which we ordered, only then to have to wait close to 50 mins to have served to us. Shame as food was not bad

Awful welcome, treated after my husbands mums funeral just 10 of us, greeted by a lady eating food who didn't even acknowledge us other than we had an hour and half, the place was empty from our arrival to leaving an hour later. The lady sat the whole time we were there didn't smile once , what an example to give younger unexperienced staff. We are your customers we expect some form of respectable greeting. Shocking

Went on spur of moment. Went to bar was told quiz nite shudve booked!! Found table but told only 45 mins as reserved! Food came burnt overcooked burgers, cold frozen thin chips! No side garnish!! Lady at bar very rude! No people skills!! Haven’t been here for a few years as food was awful, but thought we wud try again ! But nope still awful food and rude landlady!! Won’t be goin again and have told others!!

Management are rude, go out of their way to be awkward and contradict themselves. Bar staff are lovely, shame they are let down by awful management. Drinks are extremely expensive. Stay away, unless you want to be lied to your face and be spoken too with attitude.

Beer was fine, food very mediocre and not as advertised on the menu (ingredients missing) but service was quick. Server was a bit miserable

The flavour of the burgers is lovely. Really quick service and a very polite waiter. With our 30% off voucher, it was well worth it and we'll definitely be going back.

The food was not nice. The chicken did not look fresh and the texture was very odd and discolored. We ordered dessert as I was till hungry after not eating much of my meal, and the dessert was worse. I had apple pie which tasted stodgy and tasteless. I was so disappointed as we only live down the road and wanted to find a regular eat out place, but I wouldn't be back soon.

Called in for lunch on 27th Feb. Easy to park. Despite only two tables being occupied and plenty being available, it took a while for the one staff member present to show us to a table. Steak & ale pie tasty but pastry very soggy, tuna mayo jacket underwhelming.

Quiet when we arrived but got busier later. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Food was good. Enjoyed.

Went with my 80 year old parents. All had a lovely meal. I had salad as I'm watching my weight , very nice , better than a normal boring salad.

A party of 6, we weren't welcomed or even felt welcome, completely rude management and staff definitely in the wrong industry we will not be back!!

Had food here yesterday, superb, chips amazing.

I had the ultimate veggie burger, which was really very nice. It came with a large plate of fries. I was a bit jealous of the others with me because they got chunky chips and they were really nice. My fries were rock hard. With no exaggeration, I can say it felt like I was eating twigs. Very tasty twigs mind you, but they hurt. The inside of my mouth was battered at the end of the meal. The tasty burger, which didn't try to be like meat, made up for the chips. A reasonable price, very quick service and overall lovely food. I will go back soon and would happily order the same. I would just be careful to ask them not to make the fries so crunchy that it hurts to eat them.

I always chose the Old Inn to meet up with friends for food and a drink. It's always got a cosy feel and staff are always friendly. The young lady that served us yesterday was particularly friendly and pleasant. The food is always very nice also and the portions are decent. Will definitely keep going back to the Old Inn to meet up with friends for food.

Food good, service good. Toilet area very messy, floors need cleaning, stairs also needed attention.
