Court House in Caerphilly

Last minute decision for some food. Got to be fair it was good. Pleasantly surprised. The open mic was brilliant too. Just felt like being in a country pub some 30 years ago. Whoever manages this pub now needs a massive pat on the back. I’ve avoided here for a very long time. This pub is how it should be. Pleasant, clean and comfortable Thank you, Very much enjoyed 😊

Text: Came here as the sun was out ( for once) and my sister and baby nephew wanted some food and to sit outside. I haven’t been here for a very long time. We sat outside, garden area is really lovely and the pub was 100 times better inside than the last time I came. We ordered some food hallomi bites, Chicken & Bacon sandwich ( which came with some really awful looking old salad)and some Mac & Cheese and chips. Food took nearly an hour but we were told about the wait. Service was friendly. Food was a good standard apart from the salad and we enjoyed it,However I unfortunately had to use the toilet and it was not a great experience there is a awful smell of urine near the toilets, the ladies toilets are dark and not the cleanest. It’s very off putting for guests especially when the staff , chefs etc are presumably using these toilets…. Pub is good but someone please sort the toilets out!!

Very Cold Red Wine -no thanks. Roast beef was very rare, ok with me but the raw veg was off putting. Won't be returning. Red wine gravy was OK.

We had a wonderful time at the Court House, a dog-friendly pub. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and they made us felt very welcomed. They even provided a dog bowl, and serve dog menu as well. The best part was the view of the castle from the pub, which was stunning.

We visited the Courthouse for the first time and we had a fantastic time. What a lovely, cosy looking pub and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Service was brilliant, staff were very friendly and festive and the food was amazing. We will definitely return soon. Thank you, Courthouse staff and manager, Claire!

Best views you will get in a beer garden anywhere! This pub overlooks the magnificent Caerphilly castle, what more could one ask for! The staff were first class, really super lovely, and everyone loved the food. Only slight problem was the food took a while and I thought the selection of beer was a bit odd. But apart from that wee snag, Hoorah! what a pub!

Christmas Day lunch. Stunning three course meal from start to finish. Wonderful service, generous portions and so tasty. Lovely atmosphere and music too. Can't thank them enough for a perfect Xmas lunch.

Honestly shambles! Made a booking for dinner for 8pm, but the kitchen closes at 8, and even though we had reserved they'd given it to someone else. At least they refunded out deposit, but wasted our time, and could have let us know sooner so that other food alternative could have been found, especially this close to Christmas! Won't bother again.

We were able to get a table quickly. Food took almost 45 mins even though we were told half an hour. However the food was really lovely - hot and tasty. The waitress could have attempted a smile...

Really nice pub. It feels as though you are in a cosy country pub, when in fact you are just off the High Street. Good choice of food and drinks. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Recommend a visit.

Lovely place for a lunchtime pint and spot of lunch (nothing too fancy). Great view. Very friendly staff and a good pint of Tiny Rebel on tap!

Absolutely awful coffee came out of a sachet hot water from the machine , garbage ,and had the cheek to oplogise when I questioned it

Gets an extra point for the dog friendlyness but the food was pricey and mediocre. Service was good.

Great pub, great food and best view in Caerphilly! Also fantastic history dating back to 13th century. An actual court house and hangings!

Quality place. Even better in the sun with the views of the castle. Staff are brilliant, food is great for the price range. And an amazing beer selection.. what more do you need?

My friend and I been going back and four for some time the food is outstanding and the view of the castle is awesome the lady staff are really helpful but the tall bloke which I believe he's the manager he isn't very helpful every time we try to talk with him he's not paying any attention and ignore us.

Before going to this establishment I strongly advise you use a toilet somewhere else, the toilets especially the gents are disgusting, the overpowering smell of urine as you enter the toilet and the floor awash with it, it really beggars belief. The toilets are an filthy and a real unhygienic place to to be, when you walk back out into the main pub area you unfortunately carry the excess urine on the soles of your shoes back into that area and the eating area. How they have been allowed by the Health and Safety / Hygiene Authorities to trade like this is unbelievable. Its a real shame as the pub location and layout apart from this is good, the outside sitting area's are good and the staff seem fine. Shame on you Greene King!!!!

Nice enough Green King, with a lovely outside area looking over castle. It's a bit tucked away, but we'll worth a visit.

Really enjoyed our visit. The food was really good, the staff were very friendly and the view of Caerphilly castle is second to none. A bonus is the kids were kept entertained by the board games provided.

Just ok, not brill but not the worst....

Definitrly NOT a family friendly pub. They could not accomodate lunch outside in the sunshine for my granddaughters 4th birthday. Our choices were to either sit amongst the vast number of smokers, taking up the najority of tables or in an area close to that where there was NO smoking but was in the shade. All smoking area was in the sunshine and all non smoking in the shade There is one area outside with no smoking and in the sun but appsrently they can't allow you to eat your food there because Greene King have said so. When asked politely the reason for this rule the female line manager was curt and unfriendly. No apology even, whats happened to customer service? Would definitely NOT recommend for families. What a waste of a prime position.

Website says food till 8pm other than Sundays. Yesterday booked a table for 7pm when arrived early told be quick as kitchen closing at 7. Today arrived earlier at 6.30 and told kitchen closed. Casa Mia 50 yards away was welcoming, good food and great atmosphere.

Dinning with the Caerphilly Castle backdrop was stunning. Food is OK. Had steak sandwich, soup and fish fillets. Good experience

Stopped in around 2pm on a Sunday after a lovely walk around the castle. Was first told we have to move tables to order food as god forbid they serve food in far end of garden where our dog was nice and calm. We moved and I returned to order. Then informed they had run out of roasts so I tried to order our starter and said I’d return to order mains shortly. At this point the bar staff informed me they were now only taking bookings!! Why not tell us this before getting us to move tables?? The real kicker was fact the pub was less than a third full inside and only few people outside. If your kitchen can’t handle that amount of customers it’s time to get new staff

The Court House offers tasty pub food in a historical edifice with a relaxed atmosphere, live music and friendly staff. To top the experience the large terrace offers fantastic views of Caerphilly castle. Bring your camera !

Highly recommended if you like a traditional Pub. Very friendly staff and great service. I was greeted by the wonderful Bethan who always had a smile on her face during my time here, a very well-respected, hard-working and amazing addition to the Team. This place is becoming a regular for myself and friends - the reasoning for this is the Staff who have always welcomed me here and the atmosphere. There’s a great selection of drinks on tap including a few India Pale Ale’s to choose from and a very good Food Menu to top it off if you fancy a bite to eat. Lastly, who can’t mention the view from the Garden overlooking the beautiful Castle especially with the recent refurbishment outside. Well done to Bethan and Team Courthouse!👏😅

Me and my husband have recently moved to Caerphilly from Hertfordshire. We have been several times when we have family or friends visiting, and each time, we have sat in the beer garden for the best views of Caerphilly Castle. Every time we have ordered food, it has not disappointed! I would highly recommend to come here for food and the views.

Lovely place to meet a friend and sit over looking the castle. Fabulous view. We forget to enjoy what is on our doorstep. Caerphilly castle is a gem. Made us feel we were on holiday with this view

Really nice pub. Food is always spot on and always have a good beer to drink. Staff are always polite and helpful.

Great setting and the investment made in the outdoor area is well worth it. However, the service is ALWAYS painfully slow. We have tried to eat there on four occasions and we are consistently met with the “one hour wait on food” reply from the staff. This potential gold mine is understaffed for the amount of customers. Get more staff, serve a simplified menu, BE QUICKER!!!

Lovely, slightly hidden gem, set back from the main road between 2 banks. Lovely seating area outside at the back, with beautiful views of Caerphilly Castle. The food was really good and the drinks menu offered some superb gins and cocktails. Definitely worth a visit.

Couldn't ask for a much better view from a pub - conservatory and beer garden look directly at Caerphilly's magnificent castle. Pub itself has lots of history, much of which is signposted around the seating areas. Decent food. Dog friendly too.

Quite a few items out of stock on the menu and onion rings only available for meals but not as a side. Food was well presented and staff were really approachable and they took the initiative to help carry drinks and check we had everything - as I had a few glasses to carry. Lovely atmosphere outside overlooking the castle. Live music and a good selection of drinks.

We have eaten here before and the steak was really good, but this time we felt it was poor. The Pub was quiet with only a few drinking inside and out. I could not see anyone eating. I ordered 2 rib eye steaks, it was the special at £18 each. I specified medium cooking and said no onion rings.They are greasy unhealthy filler that we would never eat. Of course we got 3 massive onion rings each and very well done, dry steaks. So dry that on cutting no meat juices came out and no pink flesh as expected with medium. The cheese "sauce" was weird melted cheese which went hard as it cooled. I could not eat the dry meat and gave it to my husband. No check back was done and no clearing, we sat looking at dirty plates for 30 minutes while we finished our wine. ( a surprisingly excellent Rioja). So be aware the meat is definitely not cooked to your liking, requests are not heard and specials, nothing special at all. Poor value, poor standards. I will give them another try but maybe not order steak again.

Tried to order food from the specials board, queued for ages only to be told its run out, queued again to reorder once again not available. Very disappointing will not visit again.

Came here for dinner a couple of weeks ago (it was our second night in the UK, visiting from Canada, so we were a little jet lagged still). The food was perfectly good, and that view can't be beat.

Good pies and real ales. But felt a bit like an up market Wetherspoons.

Was told couldn’t order food for the next hour as they were unloading a delivery. Thought no problem we will sit and have a drink in the revamped outside eating area. Ordered steak cooked medium, what a let down the portions were small and the...

Fantastic views of Caerphilly Castle

We've used this pub on various occasions .food alway been good and service . We went there Friday 18th with friends . I ordered fish and chips . It arrived and the fish in batter was mostly overcooked batter very little fish and what fish...

I was out for a long bike 🚴🏻 ride and fancied a pint 🍺 out in the garden. They have a lovely garden for me too relax will definitely come back for sure

We ordered the meal via the app which was straight forward, however one of the staff came to us to say very matter of fact and casualy the kitchen staff were on their break and would not be back u till 6pm (it was 5.30) and said we could have a refund if we wanted. (No apology) We decided to wait. We were sitting in the beer garden, the table next to us was filled with staff some in uniform others not or possibly their friends, feet on the tables, coming and going a lot being quite loud, the food arrived at 18.10, the seafood rissoto was good, the mac and cheese was very small and a ridiculous amount of salad with it. The burger was OK nothing special. Its a wonderful setting. Overall impression was it should have been better.

I’ve been here a couple of times. Every time they are out of half the menu leaving very few options for food. Staff are friendly and provide a good service for drinks

What a fantastic find!! Food was excellent, we were advised when we ordered that there could be a 45 minute wait, but it arrived after about 20 minutes, by lovely friendly staff. It really didn’t matter to us how long the food took to arrive...

Had a couple of pints with family and even as it was raining the new outdoor beer garden (quite beautiful) had covered seating. And, as always, the view of Caerphilly Castle is unmatched from any perspective in town.

Unfortunately changed my rating from a 5 since my last three visits here all having same experience. Can only assume a change of chef and kitchen as food quality has noticeably dropped, wait time is long now and each time items not available . Shame

Setting was lovely - beers on tap were great. Food on the other hand wasn’t - we ordered two portions of soup which arrived after almost 50 minutes watered down and a tiny portion. It wasn’t worth the wait or the money and we definitely would never return for food. We would however return for the beers and the view.

Excellent service and gorgeous pub food. We had a baby and a dog with us and they accommodated for both.

Takes an age to get served since the refurbishment, that needs to get sorted. Beer is quite pricey. Toilets are still an issue

Good food and nice staff. Went for drinks and some food. A mistake was made on the starters but they happen, however was rectified really well and had a good night.

Strange place, where there is no service at the front bar and the staff take the money before actual service. No live sports, either.

So I tried this place for the first time ever while on holiday and was definitely not disappointed, food was out of this world staff is so friendly and the views of the castle out of the back WOW so beautiful.

Food was slow coming out. Felt there was only one waitress for the whole pub. New decking area out the back with great views of Caerphilly Castle. Also stuff on the menu that had run out? Creates alot of confusion when you've spent 20 mins deciding on what you want to eat!

Unfriendly staff, smelly urinals

A great pub in terms of the building and location. The outdoor area is fantastic and the view of the castle is incredible. Unfortunately, the place is completely let down by the service. You're waiting 20 mins queuing for a drink at the bar on a Friday or Saturday night, no on wants to be doing that. It seems illogical from the pub's point of view too. If they can sort this out, I'll happily come back and give them 5 stars.

A really disappointing experience for us for lunch today & for Father’s Day unfortunately. It was our first time visiting and after a walk in Caerphilly recently when we saw the beautiful outside garden and that’s why I booked for Father’s Day lunch. Place is simply gorgeous. One of the nicest outdoor and inside spaces. Service was very slow. Bar staff lovely though. I had steak sandwich and every bite I took I had to take out of my mouth it was so grizzly. My son had the chicken platter and the nachos were so hard we couldn’t eat them. My husband had the pork and mash. Pork fatty. Then we ran out of drinks and we were told we had to join the massive queue waiting to order both food and drink. Surely you could have one queue for food and one for drinks especially when the front of the bar could have served drinks and we were already in the middle of our meal. Everything would have been cold had I waited so I went round the other side and asked for water and we just drank that. We also booked for 12.30 so we were one one the first to eat. Unfortunately very disappointed with somewhere we were really looking forward to visiting. 3 stars only because setting is amazing and bar staff were lovely but food, despite the starters of squid and chicken wings was not good at all - in fact terrible.
