Court House in Caerphilly

Called into the Court House on the weekend whilst the festival was taking place. Extremely busy, but still managed to get a table. Ordered at the bar. Staff very nice and service very fast. Will be back.

A wonderfully location with super friendly staff who were very attentive. Great food with a good selection of drinks available. Very festive looking inside. Definitely be back again soon!

Beautiful venue overlooking the castle. Food was lovely, staff friendly, would highly recommend. I ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly.

First time visiting. Lovely view of the castle and pub looks nice. However, very disappointed with the food. Our steaks came overdone despite what we ordered and full of fat throughout so felt like chewing leather. The triple cooked chips, not sure you can call them that, they were hardly cooked inside. Drinks didn't arrive until the food arrived which was interesting as the bar staff had enough time to chat with eacother. Very disappointed considering it costs so much! Wouldn't recommend.

Excellent service from bar and waiting staff in very nice, historic surroundings overlooking Caerphilly Castle. Generous portions of food which was well cooked and presented.

Food is good but both drinks and food are quite expensive for Caerphilly, more like Cardiff prices. Staff are always really friendly, the atmosphere is good although it would be nice if they changed the starting acts songs around for open Mic (every Wednesday) not in staff control that one!!

The restaurant was calm and pleasant. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the beer I ordered but they offered me an alternative. I had fish and chips which were very delicious. Ordering and paying is done through a mobile application but I didn’t mind that.

This is a lovely pub and the scenery of the castle is wonderful. The staff are very helpful and friendly. As it was a Sunday, I was looking forward to a chicken roast but I must admit: Even though the chicken was very tasty (it was dry, how I like it), nothing else was as expected and I will admit, that I left rather a lot. The yorksire pudding was tasty, but the carrots were a bit soft, the roast potatoes were not crispy and the cauliflower cheese was lukewarm and had no sauce!! My friend ordered a Lemon torte, but she didn't like the casing. I had sticky toffee which was ok, which was large so I only ate half.

UTTERLY DISGUSTING TOILETS THEY SHOULD BE CONDEMNED. Such a shame that the staff value the people drinking rather than a family having food and drinks. One side of the bar shut which was odd. Lads in toilets snorting coke....come on management get tough on this behaviour. Such a shame as the food was lovely

This place reminds me of the ty r winch in Cardiff and the coach and horses in Chepstow in how its laid out. I enjoyed my lunch here as I had been wanting to try it here for ages.

Called in for a drink impressed with the lovely outdoor well made seating area overlooking the castle weather permitting will call again to enjoy and sample the menu

Got denied drinks for me and my friend - I’m guessing apparently ‘too drunk’ even though I see a guy every Wednesday Open Mic Night with 5 pints of alcohol on the table

Honestly shambles! Made a booking for dinner for 8pm, but the kitchen closes at 8, and even though we had reserved they'd given it to someone else. At least they refunded our deposit, but wasted our time, and could have let us know sooner so that other food alternative could have been found, especially this close to Christmas! Won't bother again.

The signature burger with cripsy pork belly, chips, house-made sauce, are all unbelievably tasty. Also, we had a delicious roasted duck leg on baked potatoes, which was gluten-free. Ideal location in the heart of Caephilly with stunning views. Would love to visit again.

Nice scenery didn't take a picture as I was so traumatised by the prices I couldnt wait to leave ..nearly 50 quid for a chicken burger that was cooked to death chips steak and chips one bottle of desperado and a coke.was told was an hour wait for food but the food came within 45 mins..the only good thing I can tell you

Used to love visiting this pub, and always enjoyed the food. Not sure if the management has changed but the food has certainly gone down hill. Whatever happened to the Big Fish n chips? now you get hard batter and have to hunt for the fish. Very poor 👎🏻

My fave pub, I just love it here!!!

Ordering was through an app which for me feels very cold and non-human. I prefer to talk to people when ordering food. Food was fine when it arrived, I got the steak and ale pie, it could have done with a bit more steak inside the pie would be my preference.

Honestly the food was shocking for the price. We had the duck. It was dry and didn't taste like duck at all. Absolutely terrible. Service couldn't be better. Atmosphere was a typical pub.

Four of us visited for drinks on a Saturday afternoon. The interior space is traditional pub-like and the outdoor space is comfortable. Outdoors area is clearly separated into. Smoking and non-smoking areas. The Guinness was good, as were the G&Ts. The place was very busy, so we were lucky to get a seat. The view of Caerphilly castle is wonderful. We didn't order food, but the burgers that were delivered to a nearby table looked very good. I expect we will be back at the Court House

Why is there a single file queue snaking around the outside tables when the bar has so much free space? Half of it (opposite the front door to welcome you in… ) is never used at all. I don’t understand it. What’s with kicking everyone out at 11pm, no drinking up time? Can’t wait to get rid, should be making the most of still having a busy pub, stay open later. If it wasn’t for the view outside, this place would be dead, seems pretty poorly managed.

Positive: Lovely spot with great views. Negative: Bar staff are always unwelcoming, slow, don't remember simple orders of 2 drinks. Always long queues. 2 bars, but only one side open (even though there are 4 members of staff chatting in 'unopen' bar. Best examples of how to look busy whilst not doing anything. Shame, because it puts off us locals from coming more often.

Awesome location, Great food and amicable staff.

Called in after lunch. I always ♥️ the ambience, especially if the weather's nice and you can sit outside on the terrace. The staff are always courteous and I love the queuing system at the bar, which makes a change from the free-for-all chaos in Cardiff pubs.

Beautiful views of the castle and lovely beer garden. The food was great in some aspects. The pie was gorgeous and the charred cabbage was delicious but the chios unfortunately undercooked. Fish was lovely. The staff are really lovely and friendly. Now the negative The gents toilet is absolutely disgusting... the smell is vile. The women's isn't pleasant either. We would like to return but until the drainage problem is rectified. I couldn't visit again. The toilets have been like this for a while now. So please Management do something immediately as your losing good customers on a daily basis. Sincerely Anne

Visited the Court House on a Saturday evening for the first time in a number of years and was really surprised, but not in a good way. Let's start with the one that hits you first, the toilets. The disgusting overpowering smell of urine coming from the toilets can first be detected the moment you enter the bar via the main entrance, especially if you stand toward the right-hand side. Visiting these toilets is not a pleasant experience. The mens toilets are obviously the source of the majority of the stench, and it is easy to see why. The floor was completely soaked with urine, including in cubicles where only one toilet actually had a seat. My wife informed me that the womens toilet was only slightly better, but the overflowing bins didn't give great confidence that cleaning was a priority here. We did actually buy some drinks here, but only the one round. I'm not sure my bank account would have endured another. It must be the most expensive place to drink in Caerphilly. Whoever "runs" this place needs to think seriously about their staffing levels. This was a Saturday evening, and the place was only a quarter full, but the bar staff were overwhelmed with orders. No one was available to clear tables outside, so despite only 3 or 4 tables being used, all of the other tables were stacked with glasses and plates with leftover food. We will not be returning

Great setting with stunning views of Caerphilly Castle, they still have table drink service, which is great if the bar is busy.

Came to this pub for the first time and was very surprised te pub looked good from the outside but up on entering was abit dissapointed as there wasn't much room to move inside as the lay out of the tables was a bit cramped . There wasn't much food on the menu and the drinks weren't that much better as most were sold in glass bottles and not from the pump had just one drink and left want be going back there for a bit as I didn't like the atmosphere

Great views of the castle, seating area, good prices, easy to order with the app, although you can't customise some meals like you can ordering at the bar eg chips instead of mash on a child's meal. Lots of character inside.

Great view, great food at good prices, and great staff. It was a perfect way to spend the evening: eating at tables outside a really old building across the moat from the castle.

Instant Coffee!: They had a traditional Italian-type espresso maker on the end of the bar. I ordered a cappuccino (amongst other items) and was told it would be brought to me (so I didn't see it being made??) When it came I tasted it and it was so weak (I can put up with poor coffee - such is the UK) that I couldn't drink this milky mixture. I took it back to the bar and asked for more coffee to be added to it, and out came a jar of instant coffee! When I pointed out the espresso machine and asked about the beans/ground coffee I was told "Oh no, we haven't had any coffee beans for ages"!

Had a meal today with my daughter very nice food and very friendly staff will definitely be going back

The pub restaurant is in a lovely setting over looking Caerphilly Castle. After spending the day here are intentions were to finish it off by having a family meal before heading back to England. The pub/restaurant is very dog friendly, with some funny and quirky signage. Unfortunately they were only taking prebook orders for food so no food available, frustrating but nevertheless they miss out financially. The pub Restaurant was extremely quiet for a bank holiday, although it being extremely quiet the staff didn't have any urgency on serving customers, I dare to say more interested on talking amongst themselves. We did have a drink in the gardens overlooking the castle and made are way back home. Maybe next time we will be able to review the restaurant experience and have better customer service. Please note there is no car park although the council carpark is only five minutes walk away.

Great spot for a beer and food with excellent views of the castle. The staff were fantastic and they even had a Bloody Mary on their cocktails menu! I was missing them

The food here is absolutely shocking they might have the best view but they really need to sort their food out 14 pounds for a house salad they didn't have any chicken but still charged me full price dried up burger with 10 fries 11 pounds

Pre-ordered the mac & cheese as we were in a group. Despite pre-ordering, our food arrived after others in our group who had ordered on the day. The mac & cheese was okay but not great, it wasn’t crispy or brown on the top and there were no breadcrumbs with it. You can order via an app which I’d recommend as it can get busy at the bar! The staff are lovely and the actual pub is nice inside, at busy times it can be a bit of a wait for drinks.

Very hard to find. As it is hidden behind two banks. There is a car park 3 minutes away food Was really nice. Had to wait for about 25 minutes I would recommend there. Burgers

Three experiences in a row I've been extremely let down by the food here. 1st time - no food at all which they said was because of it being a bank holiday. 2nd time - arrived at 7:30, sat very near staff eye sight looking at menus, went up to order at 8 and were told the kitchen shut at 7:45, so whilst we'd been sat there, but had been talking as was a over due catch up. Would have ordered much sooner if we had known. Staff not helpful. 3rd time - booked a table for my birthday as really wanted to try the roast, however was let down third time in a row as they had no roasts and a 40 minute wait. Really love this pub for drinks and pub garden and vibe but unfortunately been let down too many times for food. Lovely pub garden and amazing views.

Quant old pub feel with a modern back outlook onto Caerphilly castle. This pub maybe full of history but it's doing everything it does really well. I had fish and chips and bread and butter priced very competitively and Very well presented batter was crisp and fish was moist chips where very good to had a nice house red to start with and then a pint of the court house bitter house Ale again very enjoyable. Staff very friendly. All In all Very enjoyable visit

Food was okay not impressed. You’ll have to wait for you sauce to come after you’ve eaten your food. We got over charged. Toilets were horrific. Piss all over the floor in the men’s. The staff where completely unprofessional. Did not know how to do they’re jobs properly. Didn’t know how to add up the total of our bill by they’re calculator on they’re mobile phones. which lead to us being charged for one meal TWICE. Tables where left unclean which meant multiple groups of customers leaving they’re seats. Shambles. Gardens nice though.

Love going there the Atmosphere is very friendly it has a warm cosy feel inside at the front bar and at the back it is open and lovely and light.The outdoor seating area is great lots of places to sit and eat and the of the Castle is superb

We booked for a nice Sunday lunch with visitors from Yorkshire but were told on arrival that Sunday roast was no longer available. The booking was for 2.30 pm, not late in the day. It was very disappointing as we were looking forward to a roast dinner. We were also told there was quite a wait for food. Studied the menu on offer, not very appealing and went to the Cedar Tree Toby Carvery instead where we had a lovely roast.

Last minute decision for some food. Got to be fair it was good. Pleasantly surprised. The open mic was brilliant too. Just felt like being in a country pub some 30 years ago. Whoever manages this pub now needs a massive pat on the back. I’ve avoided here for a very long time. This pub is how it should be. Pleasant, clean and comfortable Thank you, Very much enjoyed 😊

Text: Came here as the sun was out ( for once) and my sister and baby nephew wanted some food and to sit outside. I haven’t been here for a very long time. We sat outside, garden area is really lovely and the pub was 100 times better inside than the last time I came. We ordered some food hallomi bites, Chicken & Bacon sandwich ( which came with some really awful looking old salad)and some Mac & Cheese and chips. Food took nearly an hour but we were told about the wait. Service was friendly. Food was a good standard apart from the salad and we enjoyed it,However I unfortunately had to use the toilet and it was not a great experience there is a awful smell of urine near the toilets, the ladies toilets are dark and not the cleanest. It’s very off putting for guests especially when the staff , chefs etc are presumably using these toilets…. Pub is good but someone please sort the toilets out!!

A good friendly pub. They have their own ale on tap (court house bitter) and usually Greene king IPA. Could do with 1 or 2 more (a nice guest stout perhaps) but that's fine. A nice beer garden overlooking the castle. Food is good. Good service. Dog friendly (they also have blankets, toys and treats for them over by the door going out to the beer garden). The beer is always fine and as it should be. Nice cosy areas inside with log fires. Can't go wrong.

A cheeky tea time meal and wine - 'chicken kyiv' was lovely (a little more salad i.e. some tomatoes/onions/cucumber would've been nice rather than just lettuce) But, lovely staff & lovely pub !!

The televisions were too loud and there were three one in every area. The bar service was poor the red wine was freezing cold. The cup of tea tasted of coffee. The "Sunday Roast" was poor as there was no chicken left. The starters were limited to the soups as there were no prawns left. The veg that came with the remaining roast was cold and raw this included the carrots, the cauliflower and the lump of cabbage. Although we made a complaint at the time the representative didn't appear bothered it was just lip service. We won't be going again.

Very Cold Red Wine -no thanks. Roast beef was very rare, ok with me but the raw veg was off putting. Won't be returning. Red wine gravy was OK.

Went here for Sunday lunch. Good menu. Lovely little pub. Had nachos to share for a starter then 1/2 roast chicken dinner. Huge portion. Great views of the castle. Will be nice in summer to sit in the beer garden. Definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful time at the Court House, a dog-friendly pub. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and they made us felt very welcomed. They even provided a dog bowl, and serve dog menu as well. The best part was the view of the castle from the pub, which was stunning.

We visited the Courthouse for the first time and we had a fantastic time. What a lovely, cosy looking pub and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Service was brilliant, staff were very friendly and festive and the food was amazing. We will definitely return soon. Thank you, Courthouse staff and manager, Claire!
