Food good but not very warm, service good

Awful breakfast , twice in a row we’ve ordered scrambled egg at the bar for not to arrive at all . Even first thing in the morning when it’s very very quiet they couldn’t do it and had no hot chocolate

Staying a hotel next door, popped in for dinner mid week. Not very busy which was a plus. Staff were friendly and accomodating to our needs. Food is as expected from this well known chain. lots of variety to suit everyone. Desserts are a highlight. Venue itself could do with a bit of a refurb/deep clean.

The food had been kept warm to the point it was dried out. I usually visit this location often but on this occasion the standards had slipped below expectations.

We had to leave promptly due to a medical emergency and the staff were nothing but helpful the entire time, including offering to have our meals to take away as we weren’t able to eat them there when I went to settle the bill. I wish I had gotten their names but just want to extend a big thank you to the lady I spoke to during our visit.

The food was ok, the service was good.

We went for Easter dinner today(they were very busy), we booked prior for myself and 2 children, granted we turned up 15 mins before our booking, we were told to go to the bar to order a drink and come back for our table. We were then stood there waiting for 25 minutes until I asked the woman (who was seating people) in passing, as I didn’t want to make a fuss, I have massive anxiety issues and don’t go out often without my hubby, “excuse me, we were told to come back” etc. her reply in front of all the others queued up was horrible, I was so embarrassed. She said well you should have gone back to the original person and told them, that same person who walked past us many times whilst we were waiting. In the mean time, others were being seated who came well after us and then I had to go up to the front to ask for a table, in front of everyone. However, the rest of the staff, bar and the server were lovely and the food was amazing, food hot, plentiful and tasty. I would go back but really think that 1 staff let it down for us, my children were mortified too.

The chef really needs to learn how to cook a steak. My meal had to be returned twice so that I could have a medium rare steak.

Hands down the worst Toby we've visited. Booked a table for 10:30am to have breakfast. The sausages were nice,the beans were cold,the eggs and bacon were over cooked and the hash browns were absolutely minging! We definitely didn't leave empty plates and put 7 year old would old eat the toast. The bar staff and drinks were the highlight. Definitely won't be back.

Came here for breakfast on Tuesday got to counter there was no sausages or bacon had to wait 15 minutes for more to be put on the counter

Unfortunately this place is not the cleanest, looks like its been left unused for 20 years and reopened, the toilets are absolutely awful. The walls floors, the kitchen area, dishes, bar area is absolutely disgusting, this place really could do with a deep clean, food is run of the mill, not great at all. I'm surprised food hygiene have shut this place down.

Went here after a long family day out. Was pleasantly surprised, food and atmosphere was amazing. The manager Scott, I believe his name was, was so welcoming and friendly, he really did go above and beyond to make sure everything we needed was catered for. We would definitely come again.

This is an amazing spot to go to have dinner with the family. The manager Scott was very helpful and attentive in all off our needs and made our dinner time perfect 😊 I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting 😊

The self service breakfast here is a great deal at £8.99, that's with a coffee. Despite being quite busy there was still plenty seating available.

Had a great evening meal here with the family on a recent trip but what stood out to me was the care and attention Scott showed to my little one and elderly grandmother. An example to the industry of what good customer care looks like and made it a lovely experience for all of us.

Popped in for a carvery on my own. I was seated straight away and asked if I would like a drink and the told to pop up and grab my food when I was ready. I had pork and beef, the meat was lovely and tender with Crispy roasties too! Great selection of veg. Drink was on the table by the time I was back seated. Would definitely recommend

Avoid this place like the plague! Partner and son spent 15 minutes queueing for food whilst I seen to the youngest and kept him entertained. Come to my turn to queue & I'm also waiting 15 minutes (to be expected, its sunday) so fair enough yeah? It's the queue of people for the empty gravy bowls that caught me off guard, as me and a queue of 10+ people stood and stared at our plates as our hot food grew colder and colder. Politely asked staff if they could replenish the gravy as I worked out no one had managed to approach the oblivious members of staff yet. Roll on another good 10 minutes of waiting for gravy and the server brings out what can only be described as a bowl of tinted water 🤢 the consistency was no thicker than water & it was quite obvious it had been rushed to deal with the growing queue of waiting people! Whst happened next was the icing on the cake. After my very patient; yet growing wait of 25 minutes - I decided I wasn't happy to pour a ladle of said "tinted boiled water" over my food and just call it a day (last time we went it cost us over £60 - I wanted a decent plate of food for my money!) So I asked a passing member of staff if they could sort it out as it wasn't thick enough to be classed as gravy and I didn't believe anyone would be happy. He informed me that "there's nothing wrong with it, that's company standard that! I'll make sure they do the next one thicker though" which to me translated to "Yeah its runny, but I'm not guna do anything about it cause I don't get paid enough". At this point I had lost my patience as I watched my partner and children literally FINISH their meals as I'm still stood, which was quite upsetting as it was a "family meal". At this point I called "Bullshit" as well as saying u didn't believe he was right, and that any other time I attend Toby Carvery it's more so a case of "one lump or two" than the later 😅 Well if he did... the man literally pulled and SNATCHED my now cold plate of food out of my hands & pointed to the door shouting me to get out! Luckily I know how to act in public and chose not to shout back, gathered my family and quietly left. How that man maintains a job working with members of the public is ludicrous. Obviously Toby Carbery's standards have slipped significantly, & obviously thats not just with the gravy scenario; but across the whole board. Please don't go there expecting to be spoken to kindly and respectfully. There are a few lovely young serving girls that are so polite, just Unfortunately this "man" will also be there - hes now the reason why me and all my friends and family have chosen to boycott TC Caerphilly *EDIT* Seems I can't reply I thought I'd edit to add that I was at polite and respectful with every member of staff I encountered. The unhelpful response I recieved was again met with a polite attempt to further ask for the issue to be resolved. I don't believe it to #bekind to physically snatch something out of someone else's hand. Assault is in no way a professional manner and I urge you to readdress your response and also check your cameras before you embarrass yourselves any further. Some basic training in customer service and de-escalation skills could have very much prevented any physical action that was taken by your members of staff. Again, I respect my personal choice to not be touched by others, a boundary that your staff member felt they were able to break. There are no excuses.

Had great meall here last night actually really enjoyed it . 1st time visiting caerphilly one usually go newport or cardiff gate. Nice portion meat and roasties were very nice . Gravy was a nice consistency and tasted good which at other toby carveries ive been too never been impressed. Took awhile to be seated as only 1 guy seemed to be working the floor. Only thing not happy was asked for baby bowl and was given wrong size bowl which kids didnt hardly touch and was charged higher price £6 ish . Guy waiting staff was quite polite . Would come back .

My family and I went for the carvery and it was beautiful and let's not forget the banging gravy. The staff were more than helpful when I informed them one of our party had a onion allergy, they checked all the ingredients. Scott was very friendly and gave great advice when I was undecided on the gin I wanted. Well eat there again that's for definite.

Can't fault a TC. Usually amazing Carvery, but I think Toby was on the sick the last time I went. Still as good as most carverys.

Service very slow, food choice not good and food not of a good quality. Roast beef was tough and salad was minimal.

Very, VERY disappointed in the meal. Veg to hard, not enough cheese sauce on cauliflower. The beef was disgusting, to much stringy fat through the beef and was also served string on our plates. When confronted the Manager, I was told ' the string just happens on occasion as we are very busy' How rude of him, the customer is always right, and no meals should be served with String. I will never go back and will recommend to everyone not to go to Caerphilly Toby Carvery. Really was not worth what we paid. Home cooking would have better. I DON'T RATE THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL.

Food is always nice here in Toby Carvery, the reason for the low scoring. We walked into a 1/2 full restaurant, and we got told when asking for a table of 3 that they were full and not taking any more bookings. We went outside and booked a table for 10 minutes later, went back in, and got sat down for food. I'm not sure why a business would be sending people away when they are still taking bookings online, really poor management. There was either a small queue for the carvery or nothing. They could have been short staffed, just say this and tell people there will be a slightly longer wait.

Myself my daughter and little granddaughter went for lunch today The young lady who greeted us was lovely We told her we had a pram and didn’t want to obstruct anyone she took as too a lovely table moved chairs for the pram made us feel so welcome The food was lovely and the service off Aliyah was 1st class

The ‘Master Carver’ is, by far, the best I’ve experienced. Having someone at the ‘front of desk’ needs BIG improvement. There shouldnt be a queue out the door to check in and be seated.

Toby Carvery is so hit or miss! Sometimes the food is delicious and other times it's very dry. The staff are always consistently great though.

Very busy, but the cleanliness was very poor, tables were meant to be clean properly after the previous party, but still full of stains of gravy. Toilet doors were all sticky, dust over bar and certain areas around the food area. Must say,although they ran...

Apparently the staff is very busy as we had to wait a long time to be assigned a table. Unfortunately, the service at the table was also very slow. The food, on the other hand, was very good with lots of side dishes to take yourself. There were only two slices of meat, but that's probably due to the low price. All in all, good value for money, especially if you're very hungry.

Sometimes Toby is the only thing that will hit the spot & the carvery’s are so so good. Food is always spot on, the staff are really good at replenishing the veg. The only thing that stops it getting 5 stars is we had a bad experience with the breakfast carvery one time (cold & burnt food, limited choice, not the same standard as the roasts). But the roasts are perfect & exactly as you’d want for. The beef is always especially good.

Had a few issues with a salad not coming out till after we'd all eaten our carvery, it was removed from the bill and the staff couldn't be apologetic enough.. it was a lovely meal, the beef was mouthwatering

Waiting about 10 minutes at front of house for someone to book us in and to show us to the table , never been here before, waited for at least 20 minutes in the que , for then the lady behind the counter too leave...

Normally Toby Carvery- is great! But, this time `it was not`. I think it was because `the roast potatoes` had been `sitting too long in the carvery dish` due to `not many people being there. The result was they were hard- difficult to cut & eat. Even `soaking them in gravy` didnt help! I know it would be`wasteful` but, the roast potatoes are what Toby Carvery `is all about`, hence, it would be advisable to replace the potatoes on a regular basis....before they get `too hard to eat & lose their taste! Not nice!

We have been here many times for dinner and lunch and have always found it delicious, unfortunately I cannot say the same for the breakfast we had here this morning, eggs need to be prepared almost fresh otherwise they are like rubber from a joke shop as these were, the beans were warm, the sausage wasn't too bad but not hot, the hash browns were cooked a while back and were cold, the potato hash was just warm, the mushrooms were hot and delicious, obviously just cooked and brought out. For the price we paid of £17+ drinks, I will not be visiting again for breakfast agsin.

This is a place my wife has made me walk out of on more than one occasion. She works in catering with the council. She refuses to eat frozen veg. Today, she wanted a Sunday dinner, and again, this was the only place that had availability. I told her I wasn't going to go in and have to walk out again because of her snobbery. She insisted she wouldn't. I then informed her I didn't want to hear any moaning and she had to be happy and jovial. We went for the large meal for £1.99 extra. And wow, she enjoyed it. The meat was moist and melt in the mouth with the veg very favourable. We both enjoyed and were totally full. It's well worth a visit

Fancied a carvery after work, but didn’t want to sit in anywhere so ordered to takeaway. Food was superb, to call the portion generous is probably an understatement. Diolch yn fawr guys.

The food was brilliantly priced and tasted fantastic, but was unhappy with price of drinks. 2 adults and 2 children ate and drunk,but the drinks cost more than actual food sorry. It was a treat for my 9 year old daughter on a budget, and was disappointed with drinks price. But apart from that we really enjoyed our food thanks

Ten out of ten in everything about this place, the portions of meat were generous and beautifully cooked, there was plenty of choice of veg, all in all excellent value for money.

Shocking customer service, young waitress was on her phone rather than serve, then come to take our order for desserts and never brought the desserts back I had to go and ask where our order was! Won’t be going back any time soon.

No one at the desk on arrival, which is fine but the long wait before someone did turn up wasn't. A ridiculously long queue and wait at the carvery, it didn't help that the chef kept disappearing and then to top things off the food trays were not getting replenished adding to the queue time. Once served even further disappointment at the condiment counter as it was in a total mess and not restocked. Food eaten and further disappointment due to having to chase to pay the bill, literally!! I guess all down to being majorly understaffed, we won't be using this restaurant again as it was not a good experience especially as there are many alternatives that offer a better service

Extremely disappointed. Dated shabby pubs don’t bother me as long as the food is nice…. The food was awful. The veg was either rock hard or like slush there was no in between and that’s with what veg was actually available the selection was terrible not your standard Toby carvery. The mash potatoes actually made my mother in law gag there were so many lumps and they were no lumps of potatoes what do you mix in?! No Yorkshire puddings! Apparently the chef broke the tray, you only have 1 tray?! The meat oh my god was dryer than Gandhi’s flip flop! And sadly the weak tea colour and consistency gravy couldn’t save it. Utterly disappointing we took my mother in law here for her 60th birthday as she’s lived in Dubai the last 20 years and she was so looking forward to a real British Sunday roast and we were so ashamed we left her cake in the car. This was not the normal Toby carvery experience.

Initial greeting and being shown to the table was fine. My guests, 1 chose the beef and the other had lamb. Both left the majority of it, finding it fatty and not well cooked. Big chunky roast parsnips, fantastic.... No, left far to big so not cooked through properly and definitely not roasted. The building is tired and dirty. Big piece of wallpaper missing from the wall by the toilet, window I was sitting next to was black all around the frame. Wall in my direct view, looked damp with paint peeling off it. Very disappointing experience and we will not be back.

I very rarely go out for a roast dinner, it’s something I would prefer to eat at home. The Sunday lunch was excellent, plenty of meat and as many roasties and vegetables as you want. The staff were excellent very busy and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised, the meal and service were excellent. I will definitely be calling again.
