Excellent breakfast this morning. Vegetarian sausages cooked to order and very tasty 😋

Not the best " service " experience , waiting 10 mins to be even greated at the " wait here to be seated sign " Was eventually took to our seat , another 10 mins before our drinks were taken , Eventually we collected out carvery's we had no cutlery so was asking around trying to find someone just for simple things Wouldn't return sadly

Food was utterly atrocious, bland discs of carrot , rock solid peas , stuffing that will seep every last molecule of water from your mouth and chipolata sausages that could leave you in need of a trip to the dentist. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Went on a Sunday as this chain advertised that they catered well for gluten and dairy allergies. The experience massively failed to live up to any expectations. We were told my food would be prepared separately and brought to the table in around 20 minutes. After waiting one and a half hours I was served gristly bits of meat with carrots, peas and hard spouts and expected to pay £15 for the privilege. We asked to speak to a manager twice, but nobody came, and we ended up leaving and eating in Nandos. Very disappointed. Avoid Toby Carvery at all costs if anyone in your party has an allergy. 😭

Booked for dinner - was like a cattle market people who hadn’t booked served before people who had booked staff where rushed of their feet which wasn’t their fault left without waiting for food the que was not acceptable

Very good carvery on our first night, excellent turkey. Disappointed to find out, only by chance, that breakfast start-time had been put back to 9.00am. This is not good for visitors like ourselves staying in the adjoining Travelodge and looking to do things first thing in the morning. There needs to be better communication between the Toby and Travelodge on such changes, which impact Travelodge guests who use the Toby during their visit.

Awesome experience.. The staff were very good, especially as the restaurant was very busy. Ioan was really good (Server) Friendly and attentive - I noticed him interacting with elderly guests to ensure they could access offers easily. The good was great. Laura was working hard to serve the ravenous hordes. Lol

Lovely staff, dealing really well with the massive amount of patrons coming for the special offer. Never seen it so full. Queued for 35 mins, but well worth it for the great meal. V pleased to see enjoy things suitable for vegans on the carvery 😊👍😊

Always friendly staff at this Toby. It was very busy on the night we went due to the offer they had on and the staff were working so hard with smiles on their faces. The manager is always lovely (sorry, not sure of name) and special shout out to the chef Micheal who was carving solo on such a busy night and who was very friendly indeed.

Terrible service food cold not even any cutlery

Absolutely the worst food I have ever eaten. I am vegan and yes I know it's a carvery but i wasn't allowed the vegan option as I had ordered my food at the bar (was not told this by the bar staff) Vegetarian gravy was a congealed black mass at the bottom of the pan, the only vegetables I could eat were carrots, peas, Brussels sprouts and parsnips. However the parsnips were so burnt and hard they were completely inedible. Complete waste of money.

Absolutely appalling visit on 5th October and it wasn’t even busy at 4pm! Ordered a Yorkshire wrap, waiter said it would be 5 minute wait. 20 minutes later the waiter came back saying they had a load of takeout orders come through so there would be some delay, they prioritised them over me as 45 minutes total wait it still had not come out and advised it could be another 15 minutes when I asked where my food was. Decided to leave. A waitress bless her was so apologetic but my waiter was like OK with no eye contact. Will be going to the Cardiff gate one in the future. Not a way to treat customers.

Nothing was great. Food was ok I guess. However, it was the staff that was an issue. Customer service was appalling - we asked politely for a table to be cleaned and the member of staff turned around and said “I’ve only got 2 hands” with a sarcastic voice. Food might be ok but with poor management and customer service, it ruins the experience

The Toby jug is a great incarnation of what it is :) I pushed the jug out with a prawn cocktail, which was every bit the 90s classic that I hoped. It had a good amount of prawns, well proportioned to salad and sauce, and came with obligatory bread and butter. The carvery is generous. Well stocked selection of all you can eat veggies. I finished up with a caramel Sunday. Following my learning in France I bought a vodka on the side and added it in the glass when there was space - making an adult Sunday. If I’m honest, it was far too much food for and felt a bit sick. However, I can’t blame the place for my gluttony. Warm, and efficient staff. I’m kern to go back when the desire arises

Went in as a single person to be told there was no room but I could sit in the bar which was fine by me until I went to collect my food and seen the main dining area with plenty of spare tables(more than taken) this angered me, spoke to an employee and she advised I was told that because there was only 1 server. I just see it as i was lied to and didn’t appreciate it. I’ve visited this particular Toby many times but this time I was appalled when the carver put 2 minuscule slithers of meat on my plate( no exaggeration) I did address it immediately with him and explained I’ve been very often and this wasn’t the same portion that I’ve EVER had. Overall really disappointed in the attitude of individuals on this particular visit 🤷‍♀️

Toby Whitchurch is one the best to go for lunch wouldn’t go anywhere else! There’s always a great range of vegetables and the meat is great! All the staff are very friendly and easy to approach! Every time I’ve come they always upsell starters puddings and especially them lovely pigs in blankets! Huge shout out to the General Manager Abbie for being helpful and thoughtful especially when I come with my little boy!!

Lovely lunch, kids couldn’t believe the size of the ice creams!

Wasn't expecting much, as I'd never been to a Toby's before and was staying with colleagues for work at the adjoining travelodge. Worst food and service experience in the UK. Ordered soup and ciabatta, arrived with white bread, asked about the ciabatta and was told there wasn't any. The server asked if I wanted to take the soup away. I attempted to ask about optiins, but was continually asked if I wanted it taken back. There was nothing else available that I wanted, so I took the soup sans ciabatta. I asked for a discount when we finally found the server again to pay. I was completely ignored, tried to engage to give feedback and was ignored, with the card machine pushed at me. When ordering something that isn't available, this should be shared before it arrives at the table. The service for dinner was terrible, with the server a challenge to find, refusing to listen and clearly apathetic about his job. We had eaten breakfast here the morning before which was subpar for the price, but at least the service was OK. The dinner was the icing on the cake to ensure I never again patronise Toby's carvery, anywhere.

We turned up for a carvery for a table of without booking in advance (next time we will do). Rebecca was serving us and was really nice and accommodating, seating us at a table on the bar side. Harvey and Stan were serving and all the food was excellent. Would recommend.

Food here is amazing! I tried all of the meats, and each one of them was great. The veg was all cooked brilliantly, and its good that i could focus on my favourites by serving the veg myself. I will definitely be coming back again soon

As an ex serviceman I found life hard at times. I was introduced to the veterans club on a Saturday morning, what a saver, great food, real support, alot of laughter.

Wow! The restaurant was packed to the rafters with a great atmosphere. The staff smiled and welcomed us. We were able to be seated indoors, despite offering to sit outside. The queue was long, but we were served within half and hour. The portion size was good and the vegetables hot and plentiful. The pass was a little messy, but there was no time for the staff to sort this in their defence. Abby and Grace were working flat out, but continued to smile throughout and ensure people were happy.

Always a great breakfast and lunch at The Toby Whitchurch. The food is always tasty and hot. The staff are incredible , polite , friendly and efficient … even when some customers have been rude to them. We are a veterans group that meet every Saturday for breakfast and a brew. The team look after us all. We also have our Christmas party in the function room . The attention to detail is wonderful and we always have the best evening. Recommend hosting A party at the Toby to anyone. Nothing is too much for them. We are looking forward to many more breakfats and events . Looking forward to our Christmas party again this year xx

Quick lunch at the Toby Carvery today . Myself & Samantha were served by the super efficient Grace . Grace by name graceful by nature . The carvery lunch was excellent, we partook of the beef & turkey which was excellent & lovely Mini . We will definitely be returning very soon .

Visit weekly with WW and have a coffee. Mostly greeted by Della who always has a smile and a cheery word. All staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble

Whilst I fully appreciate that this was probably a busy time for the restaurant, getting cold food delivered well over an hour and half late was ridiculous. Freezing food, no apology, neither JE nor the restaurant able to provide updates. Rubbish!

Had a click and collect. Ordered 2 meals and there was only one in the bag. Took 40 mins to pick up the phone. Then was asked to come back down to collect the other meal. Which i didnt accept due to having to cooking our own meal at home. Empathy was nonexistent.

extra hash browns just dumped in the bag with my roll, so all mushed up in the bottom like the worst mashed potatoes you were ever served. Sausage was nice, Bacon was cooked with a hairdryer I think. Meh

Really impressed with the customer service from Toby Carvery Whitchurch and in particular, Annabelle. They went above and beyond to rectify a mistake that wasn't even their fault. I was kept informed throughout and appreciated the kind gesture. The best customer experience I've received in a very long time and I'll definitely be a returning customer. Thank you!

There isn't anything that I can say, apart from as usual the staff were very helpful and the food was great

We arrived for 8.30pm sitting and they had a small peice of turkey and a small peice of beef both looked dry. Asked the carver if he had any fresh he said no, they had no mash or veg either so we unfortunately left the resturant.

Food was cold roast potatoes were hard....really disappointed

Terrible. A man was constantly staring at my friend and I’s chest. Whilst he was with his family and his young son. Our waitress, Mia, left us to go and “get the bill” and was gone for 30 minutes. We were left on a plate filled table and by an open door that was freezing us, as it was raining outside. Until a nice Asian male waiter came and cleared our table for us. I unfortunately didn’t get his name. The food was delicious and the chefs serving were a delight, the only let down however, Mia’s incompetency

Absolutely heaving, the queue for the carvery was running to the back of the restaurant, honestly thought we'd be there for an hour. Well, credit where credit is due, it went down very quickly, probably a 20-25 min wait. The food was plentiful, with it being so busy, I expected to see very little food, but fair play they were restocking all items as quick as they were emptying. Nothing much to say about the food, it's a standard carvery, nothing amazing, just an average roast, unfortunately the potatoes weren't very roasted but can't really complain considering how been it was. 5 stars for efficiency on the day, got everyone serviced as quick as possible. Well done.

After booking on the app and arriving on time, waited 15 mins to be seated then told it would take 25 mins in the carvery queue. What's the point of accepting a booking when you're full! Badly managed.

Made a booking and table wasn’t ready, clearly just accommodating walk ins and made no difference if you book. Shambolic

Absolute garbage. Tiny amount of meat, and the vegetables (if they are available), are too dried to eat. Total waste of money.

Waitress was incredibly slow. She asked how was everything, and when we gave honest feedback on the quality of food she got offended. If you don't want to know, then don't ask. Food portions were large, but quality was low. Gammon and beef was good at dinner, but for the rest average. Breakfast, fried eggs bathing in water, soggy pancakes, wet hash browns, coffee absolutely horrendous! Again waitress was walking around with her head in the clouds.

Wonderful! Two years ago, my nephew was bitten by a gosling at Roath Park. Long have I stewed on how to best conduct my revenge, biding my time for the perfect opportunity. Yesterday I had a fantastic dinner at Toby Carvery, which was made all the better when my fork failed to pierce a roast potato... these things were hard! I want to thank you, Toby Carvery, armed with your rock-like tubers, I was able to pelt scores of Geese to death. That the implements of their destruction were coated in the fat of their slain brethren served as the final insult. I write this encircled with discarded roast munitions and ringed with the shattered corpses of my slain foes. The lake is tinged red with the blood of these foul waterfowl. Revenge is sweet and, Toby, I must thank you for this.

Very good and quality food, plenty on offer to pick and enjoy

All the veg was undercooked(less than Al dente). Very disappointed with the carvery and felt a waste of £14.99. The only thing enjoyable was the meat. We ended up paying at the bar because it was so busy there, the service was below standard. Won't be wasting time or money going there again.

Carvery was good, it's a toby, they're all very similar, staff were very friendly.

Incredible value for money - went for the carvery lunch. The meat was fresh and the sauces were tasty too! Good option for sides, I would have preferred to see more greens. But for people who love Mac&cheese and potatoes - there's plenty! Special mention to the Yorkshire puddings - they were big, fresh and airy :) Definitely worth a try on days you're feeling especially hungry or have a hearty appetite !

Nice little place - meat was utterly yum! Potatoes were in need of being swapped out but we asked for replacements & they were definitely much better!

Carvery average- meat was lovely, but roast potatoes would work better as a weapon. Waited almost an hour for a Yorkshire wrap and when it came I was in pure disbelief. In no way could this be called a Yorkshire wrap! Mac and cheese just splatted on top of the ‘wrap’ which was more like a lump of batter. Definitely won’t be ordering that again. The waiter was knowledgeable and kind. Not much more to say to be honest. A disappointing Toby’s in all.

I visited on 22 August 24. The service and food was lovely. Grace was both friendly and attentive. The chefs for the carvery were Stan and Dan, they were really quick to serve and ensure that food was replaced and continually refreshed. Thank you for a great experience, my mum enjoyed it too.

This was our first visit today and we left slightly disappointment, you staff worked hard but they had too due to being understaffed. They managed to fit us in , I qued at the bar for 15 minutes only to be told they're serving people only over on 'bar side ' I had to order with a waitress , so sat back at our table and waited another 10 minutes to be served in which she just took our drink orders , we could just go up to thw carvery , I found this frustrating as we were not told this upon being seated . We went up but the 2 meats we wanted where a 25 minute wait , we would have had the ham option but the veg was empty so we waited , and then when the beef come out there was a big chunk of gristle through the middle. The que was huge at this point , they did fill up the veg but the gravy was empty , so another wait to get that filled. The waitress was so busy tending to the other tables we had to wait again another 10 mins. I wasn't too happy with the wait times and the non communication of what to do to order etc. When the person who seated us didn't really look too busy herself as much as the waitresses any way. We traveled from rct to come here as we heard so many positive recommendations, we won't be coming back. But thank you to the waitress who did serve us we didn't catch your name but you worked really hard.

Bit of a delay due to it being busy and waiting on fresh joints to come out. Food was fresh and tasty though and Mia our server was very helpful. Have been before and will come again.

Went on Saturday 24th August at 430pm. Waited ages to be seated although no queue. Appeared to be only one server on duty. After seating went to get carvery, four of us waiting five minutes with no sign of staff. Carvery was subpar. The beef dripping roast potatoes were hard. The parsnips burnt. My husband tried ordering a Yorkshire wrap British turkey club and was told it would take 45 minutes. Decided on a baguette. It arrived looking very sad with hard roast potatoes. Another wait to flag down the only server that appeared to be on duty to pay. Shocking. Stay clear and go to the Bridgend one instead. It's cleaner, food is cooked better and it's easier to find staff!!!

Each Toby seems to be very must like the rest. Even the menu, the only difference being the actual venue. Vegetables never change, month in month out, has sadly become typically boring and predictable. Stopped going here for breakfast as each time it ran out of basics such as bacon, egg or sausage, with a two minute delay for replenishment, as told by serving staff, often turned into 10 mins or more, with each appearing at different times, ending up with breaky becoming bit by bit. This is not a one off but each time I visited. Sadly for Toby Greggs is now my number one choice for breakfast. Prove you can improve and I'll be back...

Whitchurch, Cardiff Toby is always busy. However, the food is well cooked, with a very good choice of meat & vegetables, including vegetarian gravy! Obviously, the staff are always busy, however, they always have a smile & try to make sure you're looked after.

Got a Too Good To Go roast carvery (meat) from this restaurant and it was beautiful, you got so much for the price, can’t fault the value!! Tom the chef was super helpful also..

I like the company of the HM armed forces veterans breakfast club and the support that it gives the both wider the ex and current armed forces community. I have an issue with some of the lack of choice at breakfast including the late arrival of mushrooms and the lack of choice with no poached and no scrambled eggs. However overall it is a good place.

I chose the gamom, the beef . They are excellent. The queue may be a bit long, but the atmosphere there was very good. Interaction between customers and the chef was interesting. We love this place.

Had Sunday lunch on 11/08/2024 but roast potatoes were horrible and hard and that’s been an issue the time before that really spoilt the whole dinner ??????

I know, it's Toby Carvery, and my expectations were set accordingly, but, the roast potatoes were like hollow empty husks of cardboard. I wasn't sure if I should eat them or recycle them.

The food was fantastic as always. The service was a little slower than usual. We had dessert before the second drink was served. The gammon was delicious, but the pork was a bit dry.

My visit was a disaster. I booked a table for 3.10pm. It took me about 10 mins to find a parking space. When I arrived and told them my booking I had to wait about another 10 mins for a table. You had clearly overbooked as the queue for the carvery was ridiculous. We had 2 small children with us so myself and my husband had to go up separately but I think by the time I had got to the front of the queue for my food my children would have been fed up and I probably would have finished my food long before my husband would have got to the front of the queue for his food. Whilst at the back of a very long queue someone in the queue fainted and a member of staff had to run off to find management. When someone arrived they told everyone in the queue to return to their seats which I did. However when I got back to my seat my husband and children had received their drinks but I hadn’t. I was then told it would be about 5 mins for the queue to reopen but I could see that there were still people in the queue and others joining so by the time I was told to return to the queue it would probably be longer than before and my children would have been fed up by this point. We decided to just pay for the drinks we received in the end and just leave without food. Very disappointed

Carvery provided a good choice of meat and plenty of vegetables.

Staff were rude, all gathered about looked like headless chickens, food was horrible literally the worst carvery I have ever had! When we first arrived it was “you’re early” not a good customer service if you ask me because if that was me as working in the industry myself as a host I would say I am really sorry we will have a table ready for you as soon as possible not “you’re early” it was actually ridiculous! We were in and out didn’t even Finnish the carvery it was that disgusting staff also moved our drinks to a different table to make room for table of 6 left us with no knives or forks and not knowing where we were sitting we only got up to get a carvery!!!

Lamb was all gone, queue was massive, food was ok and staff were lovely.
