Unicorn Inn in Cardiff

We visited for the 1st time on the 8th of May for our 10th wedding anniversary. Can't fault it staff were lovely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious 😋. We will definitely go back soon

Busy, lively pub with a mix of drinkers and diners of all ages. Family friendly. Staff were well drilled and attentive on our visit which took place while we were staying in a nearby hotel. Food was decent and reasonably priced. Several tables had reserved signs on them - this being a Saturday evening - which is never a bad sign. There's a large decking area out the back plus beer garden and play area.

Haven't been here in years. Was really pleased with decor, food and service. I had lasagne which btw was the best lasagne ive in a long while. Husband had the tikka, which he said was lovely too. Will definitely be returning for more lunches

They have done an amazing job at reopening the place. The staff are excellent and food/drinks are great.

I love coming to this pub, the staff are amazing, I have never had a bad word to say about the place, food is always spot on, I highly recommend you pay it a visit

Food is great, beer garden fantastic but the alcohol is terrible. The only possible explanation is that they don’t clean the lines. We have been going there for 2 years knowing this but we have now given up and gone to the village which doesn’t have as nice atmosphere but the beer is so much better.

This place is a bit of a hidden gem, conveniently situated close to both the A48 and the M4, just off junction 30 of the M4. It's to the rear of a residential area and serves a good range of pub fare at good value prices. Really worth a visit if you are in the area and looking for a bite to eat and a drink.

Polite and fast a bit pricey but worth it when you try the food, lovely view out the back and also a nice clean play area for kids, recommend going for a nice Sunday lunch

I didn’t have any food, but from what I saw it looked really good, and a good choice as well. A very nice place to have a quiet drink and/or a meal, but I’ll bet it gets quite busy at times.

First time I've visited the Unicorn pub for more years than I care to remember. The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was great. The service was very efficient and the food was lovely.

Visited as a family of 5 including the dog. We came in on a Friday afternoon and we had the Friday special - Fish and Chips for £12.50 each It is one of the best fish and chip dishes I've ever had & the other guests agreed. Great portion, fish was fully battered and was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. Would definitely visit again for this reason.

Poor service and very limited menu on a Sunday. Avoid.

I visited with 3 friends on Thursday night and had not been to the Unicorn in years. The decor is lovely, providing a cosy atmosphere. The waitress was amazing. Her name was Lyla and she couldn't have been more helpful. I had the noodles with crispy chicken which was so tasty and very reasonably priced. We will be back!

Lovely place no wonder it was full and no space for food but some for drinks and that was the aim of the game for us Good amount of different drinks catering for all and the menu looks really good next time have to book

We took our grandson here for a Saturday evening meal. Very reasonably priced menu, large portions and the food was tasty. It was very busy, but all the staff were welcoming and friendly. Dog friendly too, and we were offered a water bowl. Looking forward to going back again.

We had 2 x rump steaks, both were more gristle than meat, very chewy, didnt complain but did say something, just got asked if I wanted to pay by card. Very poor.

I ordered the chip shop platter and I was not disappointed. The fish fillet, (which I think was haddock) was delicious and cooked to perfection; with a very crispy light batter and the fish was moist and flakey. Yummy!

Food was excellent and so were the cocktails! Staff were friendly and there was a good atmosphere.

We had a lovely Sunday roast earlier. The quality and portion size was great and at a reasonable price. Service was also really good especially considering they were quite busy and we were a table of 8.

Lovely place hidden in east Cardiff. Really good food, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the interior, especially at Christmas, provided a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Pretty good But nothing unique like a Unicorn 🦄

The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was really low quality. I had roast chicken and it was dry and flavourless. My daughter had the pizza which was Chicago town… you know the type you can cook from frozen from Iceland? My daughter wanted a milk. Unfortunately they only have uht milk. Is it difficult to source and serve fresh? It is good to see the pub reopened with a new lease of life. It’s just a shame the food quality is so poor. Hopefully this can be addressed and it would become a fantastic pub. In response to the owners reply… The food should never have left the kitchen in the state it was served. If I felt I would have gotten an improved meal I would have sent it back but felt it was pointless. I also didn’t have the time for another meal to be cooked. With regards to the frozen pizza from Iceland. Appreciate you might have better pizzas but they aren’t available on the kids menu… why can’t better pizzas be served to kids as well?

Unicorn Inn has been open just a week after being closed for several years. The service was excellent. The food quality was also excellent, and we have no hesitation in recommending it. The beer garden is quite large with a good play area. Without doubt, we will return.

Been a few times and each time is a good review. Happy with the food, service end atmosphere. It's clean, well presented, couple or family friendly. Would recommend to any group or solo person.

The Unicorn Inn is a great option for family as well.

Great place great staff for quick stop off and food and drink

Really poor food, had the pork Sunday dinner most of the meat was fat and the roast potatoes soft and stale. Inside looks nice but has lost the old charm it once had. But good service and very helpfull.

Had my daughters christening party here on the weekend. The buffet was great value for money and everyone commented on how good the buffet was. Really enjoyed the food. As we were a party of 30 we got the whole back room to ourselves which the children loved as they could run out to the park. Communication was great. Staff really friendly. Really appreciated being able to drop the cake and balloons off on the Sunday morning 😀😀😀

It was a last minute decision to go out for food and we thought we'd try our luck here after popping in for a drink on a previous occasion. A very kind waitress showed us to a table (it was busy so we were very grateful!). The service was second to none and the food was delicious. Sensible portion sizes and piping hot, followed by scrumptious desserts, all at great value. Thanks all for a wonderful evening.

Food was typical pub food but very good had a pleasant late lunch would have given and overall 5 stars but only gave 3 as glancing at the bill all looked in order but when I got home and checked the receipt properly realised I had been charged £5.50 for a beer we did not have was with my two granddaughters and we all had a glass of coke each So lesson learned make sure you scrutinized the bill properly before paying marred what would have been a nice experience have ammeded this review as I was contacted by the unicorn and they have sincerely apologised for my being over charged and have refunded the money can't fault their customer service

Booked last minute for Sunday lunch. We arrived to welcoming & friendly staff, Carly waited on us (excellent customer service - 5*) The Sunday roast was delicious & plentiful, in fact the nicest we've had in a long while, we'll most certainly return. Thank you all for a fabulous dinning experience!

I've not eaten here but my friends and family tell me that the food and cooking is "Top Notch". I will definitely have to eat on my next visit 👍👍👍

Waited 45 mins for fish and chips. Had to cancel the order as we waited too long. Also, the locals make it feel like it's a nightclub. All back and for and very loud. It's not a nice atmosphere. This is the second time now as me and the wife called in a week ago and had to wait an hour for the food. The bar staff also take along time to acknowledge you for you to get a drink at the bar. Will not be returning.

Visited the Unicorn yesterday and would highly recommend the Sunday roast, both the turkey and pork were cooked to perfection. The Unicorn has been refurbished to a high standard and the staff were very friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Looking forward to returning soon.

Came for food and a few drinks. Staff are very friendly, was recommended drinks from Megan, Tegan and kacey good service from the girls!

Popped in for a bite to eat after some fun (not fun) shopping down on Newport Road. The food on offer was great and my three year old was able to have food that she enjoys. My wife and I had two meals for £18.50 which was great and very filling for the price. The play set outside was great and my daughter enjoyed a little run around as we finished our drinks. Overall we really enjoyed and will return again soon.

Great old style traditional pub. Food is good. The breakfast is superb, would really recommend. Staff are always very friendly as is the owner who's very approachable too. Good selection of drinks. Outside are is lovely. Love going there, a great pub to have on your doorstep. Darren

Good food at reasonable price,polite courteous staff. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly with no rush between courses or to initially order. I particularly appreciated the crayons etc for our three-year old granddaughter. Thanks to the whole team 🙌

Came here for the first time with my Fiancée for food and some drinks for both our birthdays, the pub itself was great, really warm and cosy and nice atmosphere, gave me the vibe of a proper old school pub, the food was amazing and well worth the price, as well as the drinks as well. Bar staff and waiters were 110% on point, would definitely recommend The Unicorn Inn 👌🏻🍻. We will be back 🍻

I had the pleasure of dining at the Unicorn Inn tonight and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The manager, Gemma, went above and beyond to accommodate our last-minute reservation, displaying a level of kindness and efficiency that truly stood out. Our server, Meg, was an absolute gem as well. She was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. The beef and pancetta lasagne we ordered was a true highlight, perfectly complemented by the red wine Raghu and served with a side of garlic ciabatta and mixed salad with dressing. The atmosphere at the Unicorn Inn was bustling and lively, creating a vibrant and enjoyable dining environment. The cleanliness of the establishment was impeccable, further adding to the overall positive impression. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Unicorn Inn for hosting us for a special joint birthday meal. It was a memorable experience that we will cherish, and we are already looking forward to returning with our family in tow. What a fantastic Friday night! Great atmosphere, pub was packed , and brilliant service from staff even though they were rushed off there feet ! Live band was fab ..... absolutely love the beer garden . Food was delicious had the steak ...perfection ! Thank you unicorn

Lovely atmosphere, very busy early Friday evening . Food was good after some issues in the beginning. Ordered ham,hockey pie and when it came the pastry was rock hard. Enough the knife couldn't get through it. It was changed but came back no gravy . Had to wait 5-10 min for gravy by that time I had eaten half of it , as was hungry.

For some reason I was apprehensive about this pub as I remember the old one but have to say the welcome, service and food was excellent happy to call this my local. It’s dog friendly but would love to see some dog friendly items on the menus 🤣🐾🐾😜🤞🏽

As a fussy vegetarian, the staff accommodated my needs fabulously. My partner had the buffalo rolls and he loved them. Can't wait to come back!

Newly refurbished pub, nice decor with a pleasant atmosphere. Not independently owned so has a standard pub food menu and selection of alcoholic drinks. I intend to go again as has a nice, community pub feel with friendly staff.

What a little gem in Old St Mellons , Sunday Roast was superb 'choice of 3 , great veg and best ever mash. Good real ale too

Haven't visited in a long while, but what a difference, food is really good and plenty to choose from. Staff friendly and delivered above and beyond an amazing service. The unicorn refurbishment makes it more homley than before.

Very disappointed! Sunday lunch for four. Fairly busy for Sunday lunch service. No management present, no bar staff. Young waitresses had no direction, having to take orders, dispense drinks, serve food and take payment. Chaotic. Headless chickens spring to mind. Queues formed at bars, people moaning! Table next to us walked out as main meal served before starters and got fed up! Food was mediocre, yorkshire pudding was a hard, empty shell, tiny roast potato, stringy cabbage. To be fair enjoyed the apple pie pudding but not home made! Not cheap either. Won’t be going back in a hurry, shame as nice refurb, Terrace and garden.

Nice venue, pleasant staff but the wait for everything not so good! The Sunday meals we had were at best average and from a management point of view someone who knows what the hospitality business is about is desperately needed! Don’t think we’ll be back unfortunately.

Lovely place, really great food and environment.

That was such a pleasent experience! Our first visit there and I have to say - it has exceeded my expectations! The food was so tasty and lovely. My partner however was not impressed by the choice of beer. Persanally , I don't drink alcohol, so for me there was nothing to complain about! 😄 I had Singapore Noodles with Cawliflower in butter things and my partner had a burger which he really enjoyed. (He has very high standards for burgers 😅, so if he says it was good - then it WAS GOOD! We will be visiting again for sure!
