Room: just OK. Would've liked a mounted shower in the room, as opposed to one on the bath, and being above the kitchen wasn't great for smell - not much they can do about that to be fair! Service: fine, staff attentive and friendly - if not a little stressed with a busy weekend of some event that was happening during our stay Location: wonderful area, lovely town and surrounding scenery. Others: the bar was good, didn't really rate the breakfast - car park very convenient, all in all, a perfectly fine stay and would considrr staying again if my feet took me into the area.

A warm and friendly welcome by all the staff makes one feel immediately at home. The characterful building dates back to the 17th century, oozing lots of warmth, charm, and a cosy atmosphere. With wooden panelling, beams, and original lathe & plaster ceiling, its original character and charm are evident. A modern twist compliments the charm of overall interior decor. There is outdoor seating with umbrellas and a pretty covered porch to the front of the hotel. There is a covered porch at the rear where parking is available and a rear entrance to the hotel as well. A big thank you and shout out to all of the staff, and thanks for making me feel part of your Cain Valley Hotel family. Always a special and memorable occasion whenever I pop over... Well done, JESS, SARAH, CEAN, DALE, EMMA, ANNE-MARIE, NIAMH (Neve, Neev)... You are all legends ps. Reason review didn't register 5 stars is down to the fact that I haven't stayed over at your hotel, blame it on algorithms! Real review and not fake news!!!

Stayed here with my other half using a two night break away voucher given to us as a gift. Booking and communication was excellent. Hotel had parking spaces and situated in a quaint little town. Lovely welcome, room was clean and hotel had lots of character. We opted for breakfast on both days, was cooked perfectly with great portion sizes. We visited lake vyrnwy which was a 15 min drive from hotel and also the beautiful waterfall situated at the other end of the lake. We had a lovely stay and highly recommend.

We spent a few hours here enjoying the great beer, we spent £80 on beer and sat outside. All was good until we decided to have some fish and chips from the chippy next door with our beers at which point we were asked to move to the other side of the road. There were no signs stating we couldnt eat chips from the local chippy whilst continuing to drink and purchase more beers. How about a sign that says we allow fish and chips to be eaten if beers are being drunk at same time or add a food fee of say £5.00 per table if beers are being purchased at same time.

Stayed for one night. Comfortable room, although flooring was really uneven, which I can understand in an old building. But not for me. Bar was very good, especially with the locals. Opted for a takeaway from across the street. But food looked nice that was being ordered by others. Parking was tight in the rear.

Stayed here for a direly needed mental health break, and was not disappointed. Very clean and comfortable old style layout/decor with an overall very warm and inviting feel. All staff were very friendly/professional and very keen to be of service, evening meal was very nicely prepared and satisfying, and the breakfasts were flawless with probably the most expertly prepared egg I've ever eaten along with some really lovely coffee that certainly got the job done! The room really felt like a haven...... spotlessly clean, serene, very comfortable, all necessary features and actually felt a nice relieving distance from various nonsense of the outside world. Very smart and down-to-earth place; your money won't be wasted if you stay at the Cain.

Staff were fab , polite , friendly , very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them . Will definitely visit again , excellent value for money .

We were visiting Llanfyllin and staying locally and were concerned that due to the Welsh lockdown provisions we might not be able to eat out (party of seven). We shouldn't have worried, The Cain Hotel were fantastic and despite us booking for the day that some restrictions were eased (and hence they were very busy) they fitted us in without fuss. The service at the meal was very attentive and the food good. The hotel is quirky, traditional and has a good atmosphere. Full marks for The Cain Hotel.

Characterful hotel, could do with an update décor wise but did not detract from our stay. Options of cereal or home made cooked breakfast which was great. Also had an evening meal the food was reasonably priced, very tasty and we received great service. Staff all very welcoming and friendly offering advice on local activities and attractions.

Dropped in on the way home from Lake Vyrnwy for a bite to eat. Small dining room was full so ended up in the small bar area. Strange layout with small adjoining rooms (pool table area adjacent to the bar) connected by wide rambling corridor! Staff were pleasant, barman made ale suggestion which we were happy to try after sampling the product, and waitress escorted us around the corridor maze to the bar area! Food was average, we were offered a fish and chips with peas and salad, but the salad description was a bit of an exaggeration! One of us had the balti and that seemed fine. The highlight for me was the decaf coffee, which initially appeared to have been forgotten and came halfway through my meal (I would have preferred it before the food as I was overdue a hot drink!) and by then the next best option is to have the drink after the food but I really like a hot drink to be hot , not lukewarm. However, it was served in a metal coffee pot and even the second cup was piping hot! Maybe other dishes on the restaurant menu would have been a better choice, we were working off a bar menu but the drinks were great and the staff were helpful.

It's so lovely to finally be able to go to a restaurant that you know are understanding of allergens. The chef really knows his menu and the ingredients in it. I really wanted the moules marinere as I hadn't been able to have them since I discovered my dairy intolerance. However I also have an intolerance to eggs and it said it had eggs in the dish. The chef advised it was only on the bread so we switched out the bread and boom I had yummy moules marinere. Portions are massive (too big for me but I'm always happy to go home with a doggy bag), food is good quality and yummy. The interior design is relaxing and cosy. I highly recommend. We'd love to see a gluten free beer on tap in the future. But they do have a few in bottles. We live fairly far away but we'll be sure to return whenever we're in the area.

I went on Saturday 5/10/24 at 12.15 pm approx. I was wearing a green hooded top and green trousers. I stood politely while they finished serving a customer. Whilst I waited the customer left and another person just walked in front of me and up to the counter. The employees just served this customer and ignored me. Then as this customer left another walked in and guess what. They ignored me again and served this customer. It’s part of being a customer facing employee to recognise who comes in and when. When I pulled a face of “what’s going on” a second young lady asked me what I wanted. I mentioned that 2 persons had been served before me but she offered no apology or explanation. I bought 2 mini fish and chips which were average and certainly “not the best in wales.” Sorry but service was lacking on this occasion.
