They were understaffed for a holiday weekend. Other than that the service was good, though wait times to order were long. I took away a full star because we came to watch the formula 1 grand prix, which they advertised on sign outside. We were enjoying the race with a couple of local people we met, then the staff turned the race off 2/3 of the way through. Switched over to a football game in the middle of the race. That was quite disappointing.

Eaten and drank here over the years but the food on this occasion was abysmal. Portion sizes had shrunk ridiculously. The V. burger was dry and burnt and the cheese was dry and rubbery, all in a tiny bun with 12 chips with no side garnish.

Used to come here during my time at university, but the place is quite poor now. A few things weren't working or being served whilst I visited again, such as the taps on the bar, and them running out of fries. I was offered waffle fries instead of fries with my meal as a replacement but I still had to pay extra towards the waffle fries. Quite a few flies situated around the building so make sure to choose wisely where you sit.

During my recent trip to Aberystwyth, I had the pleasure of dining at the White Horse Restaurant, and it was an experience to remember. Nestled in the charming town, the restaurant exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The menu offered a delightful selection of dishes, showcasing the best of Welsh cuisine with a modern twist. I started with the leek and potato soup, which was creamy and perfectly seasoned. For the main course, I chose the lamb cawl — a traditional Welsh stew — that was hearty and full of flavor. The use of fresh, local ingredients was evident in every bite. The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to offer recommendations. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and intimate, making it an ideal setting for both casual meals and special occasions. To top it all off, the dessert selection was irresistible. I indulged in the homemade bara brith bread pudding, which was a sweet and satisfying end to a fantastic meal. Overall, the White Horse Restaurant in Aberystwyth is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Welsh fare in a welcoming setting. I look forward to returning on my next visit to this beautiful town.

A pot of tea is a pot of tea especially when you charge half what you do for food for one and you come to the table with one cup of tea, and regardless of if people are robbing your tea pots a pot pf tea is normally more than one cup most of the time more than 2, it's in the menu too anywhere else if you're going to false advertise something in any other business they're normally held to what they've advertised you could have been polite and said that you don't even do pots of tea anymore but you'll happily bring two teas over but there was no mention that the menu was wrong, disappointed as I always pop in when I'm over as I can take my dog, we'd have probably stayed longer and bought other things but just decided to leave after finished due to the lack of courtesy.

I returned to the White Horse because they did good breakfasts a few years ago. The pub was quite busy at around 6 o'clock on a sunny Sunday evening, l but I found a table fairly easily. I ordered the fish chips and mushy peas as I didn't have a lot of time. It arrived after about 15 minutes which was fine as there were many people ordering food. The chips were fresh and hot and the mushy peas were OK. However, the fish was a disappointment. It wasn't particularly big for the nearly £9.00 they were charging and it was curled up like a bowl and overcooked. The batter was hard and when I eventually penetrated it the fish inside was dry, cream in colour and yellow around the edges. It looked as if someone had forgotten about it. I persevered for a little while before giving up leaving half of it on the plate. A young lad collected the plate. He didn't ask if the meal was OK - perhaps he knew the response he would get. I will certainly give the White Horse a wide berth next time I'm in Aberystwyth. There are plenty of other eating establishments that are better.

Usually IME it's been a good pub overall - decent beer, friendly efficient staff etc. - but regrettably often it's fallen lamentably short of what's acceptable service-wise. The inobservant or inattentive bartender who fails to notice that you're the next-in-line customer at the bar rather than the one who just walked up is a forgivable albeit too common phenomenon, especially in the UK, but when that happens at the same time as there's another one right in front of you who's apparently too busy chatting to her friend to deign to pour you a beer... 🙄

I recently visited The White Horse in Aberystwyth and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the full breakfast was fantastic. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the sausages were flavorful, and the accompanying beans, mushrooms, and toast were delicious. It was hearty, well-prepared, and truly satisfying. However, the bacon sandwich left something to be desired. The bacon was a bit too dry chewy, and lacked the crispiness that one would expect. It seemed slightly underwhelming compared to the otherwise excellent full breakfast. Overall, The White Horse is a great place for a hearty breakfast, but the bacon sandwich could use some improvement. I'd still recommend giving it a try for the friendly atmosphere and the overall quality of their breakfast offerings.

GARLIC BREAD! why in all that's holy did it take so long, i literally could of driven to tesco driven home cooked the garlic bread and came back to this shambolic excuse of a restaurant! I appreciate that the restaurant was busy (for some reason) at the time but I didn't even order a whole meal, why I ask you did it take so long ?! And now the staff, I can understand why they look so miserable all the time working in this pathetic excuse of an establishment, slapping my food on the table without a smile or any words. Don't be fooled thinking this is a 'Spoons. It might look and feel it, and in all honesty we did pop in on that premise, thinking we'd have a cheap late lunch on a Friday after a walk along the prom. It's not, but better! The menu was decent, with good choice of just about everything, including a children's menu (our smallest reviewer was impressed by the full set of crayons, too, not "the normal, broken, three colours you normally get in pubs"). The food was good, although it took a little while to come, with decent portion sizes. Good selection of drinks, with some non-alcoholic options, too. It's got a mezzanine upstairs (with a pool table), TVs for your sporting needs, and the toilets were clean and tidy. Out of term time it was fairly quiet but I imagine it can get quite busy otherwise. The are special nights on (check the board). All in all a very pleasant experience. And service was great!

I usually consider this a great place to eat and drink at a reasonable price. Today, though, I had an awful meal. I ordered a beef dinner but only about 20% of the beef was edible (it was mostly gristle) the ball of mashed potato was unrecognisable with a tough skin and one roast was so hard it was inedible. Yorkshire and gravy was okay! I was in a family group who paid for it so I didn't want to make a fuss or I would've sent the "food" back. Good food, good service, great staff; I usually avoid going to the same places twice so I can visit as many new restaurants in Aber as possible, but there's a reason I and many societies frequent the White Horse. The food is tasty and reasonably priced (8-15 quid for a full meal, depending on what you get), with plenty of variety including vegetarian/vegan options, and usually very timely served. The atmosphere is a bit loud from hosting many patrons at once, but it never feels rowdy. The staff is friendly and also let my friends bring in a homemade cake (complete with lit candles) for my birthday after we ordered and ate, which was extra nice. They have also been generous and let me swap out my coupons for alcoholic drinks for juice many times, as I don't like soft drinks or alcohol. My friends who do seem to like the alcohol and fizzy drinks available, though. I've been to the White Horse perhaps a dozen times now and never had a bad meal or experience. The White Horse also permits many society meetings and activities (such as TTRPG nights), sometimes even without prior booking, making it feel very welcoming. Their nightly events always seem interesting, though I've peronally yet to attend any. Never had trouble finding seating even on busy days, either. Not a fan of sports, but they do play sports on the televisions around the building for people who like that. The late closing time is also nice, and it is dog friendly! Overall, very good pub!

Went out for a meal. Wish we hadn’t bothered! Hubby had a ‘festive burger. Small burger, Childs portion of chips and 1 cremated pig in blanket, no garnish or salad. He said about the pig in blanket and they got another one. I had turkey pie, mash & veg. First pie was like a brick! Once I’d got through the pastry, the inside was dry and burnt on to the pastry. I said about it and was asked did I want another….eerm yes, I wasn’t about to eat the one I had! This arrived 10 minutes later, after the rest of the party had finished eating, I then put my fork in the mash to have some and the whole lot lifted in one piece!!! Needless to say we most definitely won’t be wasting our money there again!

Lovely pub, plenty of space, and the Sunday lunch is so tasty, staff are so friendly, we've found out local I think when we're at our caravan 👍

A great dog friendly pub that offers good food and massive portions. Friendly staff and a real happy local pub that is pleasantly busy but not rowdy or unwelcoming... Ideally located near to the castle and other tourist attractions.

Never been there but the picture of a dog on the bed has persuaded me never to book it.

The Hafod is such a special place! The location is majestic and the rooms are full of character and comfort. With wonderful, welcoming staff and excellent food, this hotel is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. With Devil's Bridge at the doorstep, it was lovely to be able to wake up early to complete the waterfall hike before it got busy. Stay for the Sunday roast!
