Great place to go for a night out or for a few quiet drinks with friends. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, the locals are warm and friendly too. Had a fab night during our stay in Aberaeron we visited the Castle several times we had the best time on the Saturday night with great entertainment. Excellent singer the pub was on there feet dancing and having a great fun time. Only pub that provides a great atmosphere in the town.

What a tremendous friendly hotel. We stayed over on the way to Tenby on a Scooter rally. The rooms were clean and light very spacious with goid facilities. The staff could not do enough for us. Breakfast was cooked to order and cooked to perfection. A lot of our riders are planning to bring their partners in the future.

My family stayed in the hotel and ate breakfast in the restaurant. Tne rooms are nice (we had 2 for a family trip). New owner, Kirk, is delightful and really cares that you enjoy your stay there. From the moment we walked in to the pub to check in until we checked out two days later, we experienced nothing but rudeness and appalling customer service. The member of staff on duty for most of the time (speaking with a Brummie accent) was the least hospitable person I have ever encountered in the ‘hospitality’ industry. It’s laughable that they charge £120 a night for such sub-standard accommodation. In the Middle East, where I live, you could stay in a true 5* hotel such as the Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental for that price. It’s no wonder that the bar was always quiet and soulless whilst other establishments within walking distance were bustling and vibrant. Aberaeron is a lovely town but make sure you don’t spoil your enjoyment of the area by staying in or visiting the Castle!

Avoid this place if you have children. Myself and my partner with other family members (not children) walked in at 7pm. We took seats at the table (bar staff seen us walk in and take a seat) bearing in mind we had one 4 year old and another 7 week old who was in a pram… we all took our coats off (they looked at us and said NOTHING!!) these women came in and complained that we had taken the space of a table, with that the woman behind the bar came over to us and said that we had to get out as there was no children allowed in there even though they had all had seen us coming in and taking a seat with the children. We started to grab our coats and move out to which the group of women thanked the people behind the bar for throwing us out. My father went back in to ask why didn’t they advise first off when we walked in why we weren’t told children weren’t allowed, to which we had the reply “I don’t need to serve anyone including you”. If you want nice staff, polite service and a nice place to eat/drink AVOID THIS PLACE!! We are regular’s of Aberaeron but I will never go here again.

Decided to frequent a few pubs in the area, this bar was recommended to us. Originally sat outside however the weather turned and had to sit in side. Good Selection of Lagers, Ales , ciders and spirits, was very surprised to see Leffe on tap which was amazing. Drinks were very reasonably priced as well. Staff were friendly and polite also. Unfortunately food was not available on the day we visited which was shame, but no harm done. Will definitely visit the pub again, on our next visit to the area.

We were very unimpressed by our visit to The Castle . Your listing is as a pub and yet you don’t do food ( message received the morning of our arrival - you shouldn’t list that you do food at all ) and you shut the pub at 7pm. Ridiculous. The room itself was shabby and tiny . Bathroom had considerable mould above the tiny ancient shower with more mound on the soap holder and tiles . The wifi did not work . The one and only bedside light was broken and not repaired despite me reporting it and requesting it was fixed right away. The window was single glazed and very dirty plus the noise from the street was pretty bad… and from very early . Water pumps/ extractor fans ran on and off quite late and very early so we were woken up often. You should be ashamed of the accommodation you offer and at the price of £98! Why run a business when you don’t seem to care about the experience you provide ? One positive note - the lady who checked us in was very nice .

We spent a week in Aberaeron from the 3rd March and, for the most part, this place closed early - on one evening as early as 8 pm. but on most by 9 pm. After the Pandemic, we were asked to support our pubs and restaurants on reopening, as the hospitality industry had taken such a bashing. I am beginning to wonder whether some had too much government help, and can now afford to cut their hours? I was looking forward to a pint of 'Butty Bach' which I noted they stocked, but I don't drink during the day, so that option was taken from me. Apparently, The Castle is known in the town as not being very user-friendly. As a visitor to the town, one can only speak as one finds and, there are other pubs we enjoyed not far away, to which we gave our custom, and shall return to on our next visit. Business is so easily lost in the wrong hands.

Called in for a early afternoon coffee to warm up after a long & blustery stroll around Aberaeron. As we walked in a lady was sat customer side of bar chatting to 2 male customers. She looked up and barked “ we’re not doing food” I smiled and said we only wanted coffee. She huffed and shrugged her shoulders. After taking payment for the coffees she said she would bring them over. She prepped the coffees and carried on her conversation with the men loudly criticising other members of staff that worked there. Finally after about 10 minutes after she had finished running down these people she brought our coffees to the table - very disappointed half a mug of froth and half a mug of luke warm latte. I had a biscuit but my hubby didn’t !!!! 2 other couples came into the pub and one lady went straight to the toilet while her partner stood waiting to be served - she shouted at the lady that “toilets were for paying customers only” . Very poor customer service and her attitude stinks - we will never return

We were on holiday in Llanon and the cottage we stayed in had a power cut which meant that I couldn’t wash my hair or have a coffee- it had been a difficult morning. We went into this hotel desperate for a coffee and we were treated with hostility. We stood in the doorway surrounded by demanding notices of what you couldn’t do due to Covid and we were ignored by the staff. Eventually a female member of staff glanced up & shouted across- we’re Not doing food. My husband said it wasn’t a problem as we only wanted coffee. I then asked for a decaf skinny latte and was told aggressively by (I think the manager) we don’t do skinny - to which I said that was fine (being made to feel like a nuisance). After several minutes he then shouted across at us - we haven’t got decaf. At which point we thanked him & said we’d leave it. I left there in tears. He made an already frustrating day ten times worse, made us feel very unwelcome and a nuisance and coloured the start of the holiday for me. Thanks a lot - we won’t ever go back there & certainly will never recommend it. Not that they will probably care. If you don’t like English tourists then maybe you should re-think your career choice.

Absolutely awful place with a disgusting attitude from the server. Sat outside on a hot day & the woman who served us was sullen, miserable & rude. She sprayed the table with disinfectant but in the process, sprayed us as well! I pointed out the fact that we were wet with disinfectant & she just shrugged & rolled her eyes. When I went inside to use the bathroom, I had to ask twice where the toilets were & another rude staff member just pointed & looked irritated that I’d asked. The middle aged lady behind the bar needs to learn some customer service skills, we walked in through the door and went 3ft to the bar only to be told in a sarcastic voice that we had to sign the book by the door and “you can’t just walk in” fair enough, a polite reminder would have done - we walked out without buying anything. The rudest man I have ever had the displeasure to meet. Wanted to ask a simple question as there were no signs to indicate if it was table service or not. The question was "should we take a seat and wait ? is it table service or would you prefer we go to the bar?"............... was very happy to wait but the words were barely out of my husbands mouth before he was abruptly told "take a seat you'll just have to be patient". We are patient people, both nurses who have worked hard all our lives especially so in the last year. We were happy to wait, we simply wanted to be sure we were not in a queue for a table, not jumping the queue if someone else was waiting or if it was table service. Just be nice, everyone is busy and stressed but a kind word goes a long way. The bill may have been considerable as we enjoy a drink and intended to eat. We moved on and received kind, polite customer focussed service else where.

Polite staff who were welcoming and friendly and clean and tidy interior but food wasn’t up to much. Partner ordered a side of chips firstly for £3 you’d think you’d be getting a fair size portion- wrong, chips came in a small wire basket and were literally swimming in grease, so much so that when we moved the fancy basket the table was covered in that much oil George Bush tried to invade it...The other downside of this place was that there was no baby changing- not even a slightly inflated mat let alone a changing table (static or a wall mounted one)- I had to change my son on the floor of the disabled toilet which was by no means ideal and a real disappointment. The disabled toilet was plenty big enough to accommodate a changing table of some form! I appreciate that perhaps places don’t want to cater for young children but the pub offers cake and coffee so that would perhaps entice young families in, so my advice is to change their nappy beforehand if you want to visit here otherwise you’ll be left with a sore back and god knows how many germs after a floor changing experience!

Two televisions, each playing different stations on either side of the bar is a bit off-putting, but there was hardly anyone in there when we called in. We did have a drink in there on three nights of our holiday, just for an hour. Three regulars in on two nights but not on the third, but other than that it was pretty dead every time we went in there. On the Thursday, not quite 9.30 pm the bar maid came and switched the games machine off just as we had got our drinks and sat down. She then closed the window shutters and shut one of the front door panels. Way to make your customers feel welcome! We finished our drinks quickly after that, as we got the hint and didn't hang around for a second one, we went somewhere else instead. It seemed they closed at 10 and were keen to get us out the door. If we had realised that we wouldn't have gone in at 9.30!

Met up with friends in the town and wanted to find a place big enough for two pushchairs and somewhere serving cakes and a hot drink for 4 adults and 2 children. Also fancied a change. Advertised outside was a sign “hot drink and cake” at a set price so we thought that this was a good choice. No friendly welcome from the staff who appeared to look like the owners/managers. It would be fair to say that taking our order was a chore and the rudeness that followed incomprehensible. There were no cakes available that were advertised on the board - chocolate cake, sticky toffee pudding etc only carrot cake and cakes in packets were available. The response when enquiring about the cakes was I’ve only got what’s out there which was pretty much nothing. This was at 12pm in the day!No ice cream for the children, this had to be collected from a shop nearby!Only out of pure manners on our part and the fact that a drink had already been poured that we didn’t vacate and say forget it well go somewhere where we are made to feel more welcome. Couldn’t get our breath - don’t false advertise, don’t treat or speak to customers like they are nothing and don’t work in a sector where you have to deal with people and have no people skills and are just plain rude. Will never visit again we will in future continue to spend our money over the road where we have done for years on our visits and have been made to feel welcome every time.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch last week and we all wished we hadn't bothered. We were supposed to be in the upstairs restaurant, but on arrival, were told to eat in the pub. That didn't really bother us as we understand that it's not worth opening it up if it's fairly quiet. What really killed it stone dead for us, was the waitress. She was very hard faced, to say the least. Not a smile out of her, not apparently, a drink!!! We made the mistake of asking her for a round of drinks once our food had arrived, to be told to "Get them yourself from the bar". That left one of our party with a cold meal after having to queue at the bar. She never once came to see if everything was ok, which it wasn't, as the food was awful, and as we watched her "serving" other people, she was the same with them. Maybe she's part owner or something, as that's the only thing we could think of as to why she was employed. I've written many reviews, and this is the very first time I've had to be this basically honest about someone, but she really did ruin our visit. We won't be returning.

'She went from behind the bar without actually taking our order. ( I believe she was one of the proprietors as she was sternly dishing out the orders to staff ) Went back to the Bar to find someone to take our order. There was a man which was possibly the male co owner abruptly telling staff about the floor needing mopping. He then asked what we wanted, we said breakfast and was told. " well if you want breakfast you will have to wait at least 10 mins before starting to cook it (including the tea) as I am busy sorting thing out" I replied I don't think so and walked out. For a one night stopover in Aberaeron, the Castle Hotel fits the bill. It is centrally located with the hotel above a traditional pub. Our room was small but we just wanted somewhere to sleep after meeting friends elsewhere for dinner so that was fine....

Enjoyed no less than two breakfasts at The Castle over consecutive days during our stay in early November 2017. On each occasion the breakfasts were lovely, well cooked, correct temperature, nicely displayed on plate, and good value for money. The only changes were that on...

My brother, dad and I stopped in for a couple of drinks whilst in the town. The pub is a fairly modernly decorated place in a traditional building, with a u-shaped bar at the centre. Disappointingly, the beer choice was decidedly mainstream, would have been...

We had asked locally for advice on where to eat in Aberaeron. And been given two recommendations: the Hive and the Harbourmaster. Trouble was that on a Saturday evening, the former was booked out for a birthday party and the latter was heaving, with a waiting list even to sit at the bar.

We ate in the bar area on a couple of occasions as the places to eat with dogs in Aberaeron is limited. On both occasions the food was swimming in grease - disgusting! One good point is that the barmaid was friendly.

We popped in here for lunch one afternoon this week with our dog. We sat in the bar which was good as it was a little windy. First impressions were it's a bar and we weren't expecting much from the menu but thete was a good lunchtime set menu and lots of snacks and other meals on offer. The barmaid wasn't very friendly, no friendly welcome she didn't even crack a smile. We both ordered faggots peas and mash. The faggots were very dry, the potato was nice and the mushy peas were not very good quality and extremely hot ie microwave scolding hot. It was a basic meal lots of it but nothing I would return back for.

All 7 of us really enjoyed our lunches including cawl, fish pie, jacket potatoes, omelttes, ham & eggs, and gammon steak. Piping hot, plenty of it and good quality. Service was good too.

The Castle Hotel restaurant is up a flight of stairs. With torn knee cartilage, I had just a bit of difficulty getting there; however, it proved worth the climb. I at first found the restaurant to be uncomfortably warm and was perspiring. Either it or I later cooled down to a pleasant degree. The service is good and the floors and tables well cleaned. My Sunday roast and Yorkshire pudding were quite good, though I personally found the gravy just a tiny bit bland -- not enough to stop me from eating it, though! It was a good Sunday meal, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to visitors to the city.

The barman says there is no good local welsh beer to serve? So they serve Doombar! At the Harbourmaster they had a fantastic Untapped beer and Greytrees Afghan pale.Avoid and go to the Harbourmaster.

Flying visit helped by the inclement weather, felt some spots of rain and the need for quick pint which brought on the hunger pangs, having seen some lovely plates of grub pass us by and well stocked specials board it was a no brainer! Good decision, as the Mother in law and I had probably the best fisherman's pie yet and the good lady wife said her Caesar salad was lovely, Friendly atmosphere, sports bar, kids and dogs welcomed.

Called into the restaurant on the off chance on a bank holiday, the waitress was lovely and said we could choose where to sit. the restaurant is very small but very atmospheric. we chose the garlic mushrooms, nachos, steaks, burgers and scampi, our food was served very nicely with good portion sizes and all hot, we had eton mess and sundae for dessert and my only critism would be that the eton mess was served in a tall glass with the meringue at the bottom making it difficult to eat at the same time as the cream. the waitress was so very lovely, it was only her 3rd shift but you would not have known, she was so professional and friendly. would definitely come back here.

Have visited the Castle on many occasions - the biggest plus for us being that the bar area is dog-friendly !They serve a good range of beers and wines, plus plenty of different teas and coffees.I have eaten many times there, and always enjoyed the meals - particular favourites are the welsh faggots and any of the seafood dishes.Usually showing sport on the TV, so can be busy when there is a big game on.Overall a well-run, clean establishment - a pleasure to visit.

A great dog friendly pub that offers good food and massive portions. Friendly staff and a real happy local pub that is pleasantly busy but not rowdy or unwelcoming... Ideally located near to the castle and other tourist attractions.

We booked Sunday lunch yesterday (very easy to book online) and received friendly, attentive service from the staff member who greeted us, took us to our table and served us thereafter. I have downgraded you by one star for the fact that the table we were taken to was dirty and had evidently not been cleaned following the last diners' departure. This is not the first time we have found the same issue at the Starling Cloud - in fact on our last visit a month ago we had exactly the same problem with our table needing to be cleaned after we had been seated. This makes a very poor first impression, although as regular customers it is something we have now become used to! Although your staff member was very attentive and immediately went to get cleaning materials (and subsequently left the table spotless), I would say the management are definitely missing a trick here. If I were a first time visitor, I would not necessarily stay to sample the cuisine after being seated amongst someone else's spilt peas, carrots and gravy! Unfortunately cleanliness of tables seems to be an ongoing issue at the Starling Cloud that someone in charge needs to get to grips with - your standards could and should be improved! The food was excellent - we had two Sunday roasts (one beef and one pork) which were both delicious, well cooked and a generous plateful. The reason we booked the Starling Cloud yesterday was because of positive previous dining experiences here. We have a holiday home in the local area, we eat out in the local area very frequently and we rate the Starlling Cloud as serving one of the best Sunday lunches in the area. We are dog owners and only eat at venues which are dog-friendly. We are therefore glad you choose to welcome dogs, which in turn makes it easier for us to choose the Starling Cloud as one of our regular eating-out destinations. Top marks for food and service.
